Gene Madden
ANDERSON - Grady Eugene Madden, 85, of Anderson, husband of the late Frances Whitworth Madden, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Born August 12, 1928 in Belton, he was the son of the late John L. and Lula Jones Madden. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Mr. Madden was co-owner of Electric City Printing Company and served on the executive committee of Printing Industry of America (PIA) Sales and Marketing Executives. He was a member of the Anderson Rotary Club and performed in the Anderson Senior Follies for a number of years. Mr. Madden was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson and was a former longtime member of Garner Memorial Baptist Church where he was active in all areas of the church including the choir and serving as Deacon Chairman. He was instrumental in the formation of Clearview Baptist Church where he was a Charter member and served in many leadership roles.
Survivors include three sons, Steve Madden and wife, Connie, Tommy Madden and wife, Lisa, and Dave Madden and wife, Lori; one daughter, Cathy Hamilton and husband, Ben, all of Anderson; seven grandchildren, Ashley Waters and husband, John, Beth Epps and husband, John, Matthew Madden and fiancee’, Kate Banner, Patrick Madden, Caroline Brown, Cory Brown, and Lee Madden; four great grandsons, Whit, Jack and Grady Waters and Wells Epps; and a special friend, Judy Hill. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff Madden, two brothers, John and D.L. Madden and two sisters, Doris Smith and Connie Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Jack Couch and Dr. James R. Thomason. Burial will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:45 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. Family members are at their respective homes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the local church or charity of choice.
