JAMES CLAYTON SULLIVAN

April 22, 1933 – October 8, 2013 

WILLIAMSTON, SC - James Clayton Sullivan, age 80, of Williamston, SC, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. 

Born in Fair Play, SC, he was the son of the late Alton Sullivan and the late Opel Stone Sullivan.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was employed at Southern Weaving for many years.  James was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son, Mike Sullivan and his wife Lissa, of Pickens, SC; a brother, Joe Sullivan, Fair Play, SC; four grandchildren, Chris Sullivan, Lacie Sullivan Brown, Brooke Moon and Preston Barger; three great-grandchildren, Mitchell Watson, Sully Brown and Jacob Sullivan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 1 brother. 

The Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Beaverdam Baptist Church in Williamston, SC with Reverend W. Chris Huff officiating.  Interment will follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

WILLIAM. J. "DOC" GREER

ANDERSON - William Jones "Doc" Greer, Jr., 93, of Crestview Road, husband of the late Genevieve Rogers Greer, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at his residence.

Born September 22, 1920 in Anderson, he was the son of the late William Jones and Sally Vandiver Greer. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a lifelong farmer. Mr. Greer was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and attended Midway Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his son, Doug Greer (Charlet) of Anderson; three grandchildren, Sharlie Wentzky, Shana Wentzky, and Brittni Greer; three great grandchildren, Greer Wentzky, Jenny Wentzky, and Cooper Greer; and one sister, Annie Shirley of Greenwood.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Lawrence Greer; a daughter, Nancy R. Wentzky; three brothers, John, Dewitt, and Dick Greer; and two sisters, Frances Hiott and Mamelou Riker.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of Doug and Charlet Greer, 3128 Midway Road.

DAISY SIMPSON DACUS

November 11, 1944 – October 2, 2013

La France, SC - Daisy Simpson Dacus, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Furman Simpson and the late Dolly Willis Simpson.  She worked in textiles for many years.  Daisy attended First Baptist Church of La France.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Dacus, of the home; and two sons, Glen and his wife Debbie and Rodney Dacus and his wife Tonya, all of La France, SC; and four grandchildren, Brint, Debra, Jesse and Cheyanne Dacus, all of La France, SC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Joseph Simpson.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 12:30 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Pastor Albert Couch officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Clemson.

The family will be at the home of Rodney Dacus, 13 Circle Street, La France, SC, and will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, October 4, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

BILL CANTRELL

February 15, 1932 – October 1, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - William Lee Cantrell, age 81, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born in Danville, VA, he was the son of the late David Lee Cantrell and the late Lillie Coates Cantrell.  He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp, where he was a decorated Korean veteran, fighting at the Chosin Reservoir.  After his military service, he worked in construction.  He later became a sales manager for Electrolux Sales and Service.  Bill was an avid fisherman, gardener and an excellent cook.  He was a member of Neals Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his children, Sheila Cantrell Branyon and her husband, Paul, of Williamston, SC, David Cantrell and his wife, Cathy, of Weddington, NC, Jay Cantrell and his wife, Temple, of Greensboro, NC, and Chris Cantrell and his wife, Grace, of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren, Kevin Branyon of Anderson, Michelle Branyon Jones and husband, Ben, of Charlotte, NC, James Cantrell and Casey Cantrell, both of Greensboro, NC;  and two sisters, Roma Scoggins, of Spartanburg, SC, and Elaine McAfee, of Mesquite, TX

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Doris Jeanette Gardner Cantrell.

The family will receive friends at at Neals Creek Baptist Church on Friday, October 4, 2013, from Noon until 12:45 PM; with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM. Reverend Alex Henderson will officiate.  Interment will follow at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors.

Doyle Lee Thrasher, Sr,

ANDERSON - Doyle Lee Thrasher, Sr., 78, passed away on October 1, 2013 at his residence in Anderson, SC with his wife of 35 years by his side. He was born June 7, 1935 in LaFrance to the late Harold and Dallas Thrasher.

Doyle was an Air Force Veteran and a Western Union Field Microwave Supervisor who happily retired to pursue happiness and pleasure in his original home of South Carolina. He lived in Ohio for over 45 years where he was active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles and reached a rank of Ohio State President in 2001-2002. He was a member of Cobbs Glenn Golf Course where he enjoyed playing golf three days a week with the “Old Farts”. He was an active member of Sierra Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Deborah Thrasher; his son, David Wayne Thrasher; his brother, Edward Berry Thrasher; his grandchildren, Wendy Ann Wagner, Carrie Anne Thrasher, Jessie Lee Thrasher, Logan Alexander Thrasher, Angela Harner and Kelly Marie McKay; and his many great grandchildren, Bo, Ann Marie, Carson, Harley, Aiden, Kylynn, Ethan, Brianna, and Jerzie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Doyle Lee Thrasher, Jr., daughters, Mary and Debby, his only sister, Shirley Rampey, and his two brothers, Bobby and Larry Thrasher.

Doyle is also living through many other beloved family members and friends who knew him as “Poppa White Beard”, “Uncle Doyle”, “Uncle Lee”, “Doyle”, “Lee” or just a great friend. Because, in our world, family is more than a blood line.

Doyle loved his God, his family, his friends and golf. We keep with us your wisdom, your wit, your kindness and your many stories.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson conducted by Rev. Rex Simmons and Rev. David Walters. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to the service. The family is at the residence.

FRANK CROSBY MURPHEY

June 20, 1930 - September 27, 2013

Frank Crosby Murphey, 83, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013, at his home in Anderson, South Carolina.
 
Frank was born on June 20, 1930, in Aiken, South Carolina, to Paul Early Murphey and Bruce Crosby Murphey. Growing up on James Island, Frank fell in love with the game of golf at a very young age while caddying at the Charleston Municipal Golf Club. In 1944, Frank’s family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. Frank graduated from Central High School in Charlotte in 1947 and from Duke University in 1952. Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army in October, 1952, and served for two years during the Korean War. In February, 1953, Frank married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Anne Johnston. They lived in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Winston-Salem, NC, before settling in Columbia, SC, in 1972. Dorothy passed away in 1997. In February of 2013, Frank moved to Anderson, SC, to live closer to his daughters and grandchildren.

Over the years, Frank was Executive Vice President of N.G. Spier, Senior Vice President at Wachovia Bank, Senior Vice President of South Carolina National Bank in Columbia, President of R.L. Bryan Company in Columbia, and President of SeaBank in Myrtle Beach. In the past, Frank served on the advisory boards of Clemson University and of Columbia College. Additionally, he was Past-President of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce and Past-President of Spring Valley Country Club in Columbia. Frank was an avid golfer for over 70 years.

Frank Murphey was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Johnston Murphey, two brothers, Bob Murphey and Paul Murphey, and his parents, Paul and Bruce Murphey. He is survived by three daughters: Laura M. Fastenau, and her husband, John, of Honea Path, SC; Janice M. Walpole, and her husband Philip, of Williamston, SC; and Marian Murphey of Las Vegas, NV. In addition, he is survived by twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A private, family, graveside service was held on Sunday, September 29, 2013, conducted by the Reverend John Fastenau. The family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Calvary Home for Children, 110 Calvary Home Circle, Anderson, SC 29621, a ministry that Frank loved dearly over the past decade.

DONALD JOHN ALEXANDER

Donald John Alexander (Donny), 56, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Donny lived most of his life in Green Bay, Wisconsin and graduated from Green Bay East High School.  He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and member of the local deaf community and ministry.  In 2003, Donny met his love, Monalisa Smith with whom he shared his life.  In recent years, they had moved to Liberty, SC.  Donny enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his love and soul mate, Monalisa Smith, of Liberty, SC; Monalisa’s children, Lori Dunahoe, Alan Smith Jr.;5 grandchildren; his father, Arthur Alexander, of Green Bay WI; his sister, Deane (Chuck) Rizzo, of Hastings MN; sister-in-law, Linda Alexander, of Green Bay, WI, :his nieces, Dawn, Heather, Jamie; and a nephew Bret.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Alexander, twin brothers, Daniel Alexander and David Alexander.

Family and friends may gather at North Anderson Baptist Church, 2308 North Main Street, Anderson, SC on October 5, 2013 for a visitation to begin at 10:00 AM with the memorial service following at 11:00 AM

CECIL T. BROWN

August 31, 1949 – September 28, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Cecil Taylor Brown, age 64, of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at his home. 

Born in Chattanooga, TN, he was the son of the late R.C. “Bob” Brown and the late Norma Taylor Brown.  He graduated from Anderson College and served in the United States Army Reserves.  He worked for many years with his father in the family-owned shoe company and later worked as a bookkeeper for several car dealerships. 

He is survived by his son, Brandon (Nicole) Brown, of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Megan B. McClure and Kristin Brown, of Anderson, SC; four grandsons, Lex Annese, Maddox McClure, Mason McClure and Ryan McClure and; a sister, Debbie Brown Ott (Rembert), of Orangeburg, SC; and two brothers, Rick (Angel) Brown, of Charlotte, NC and Chris Brown, of Anderson, SC; four nieces, Remmi Ott, of New York, NY, Kelly Brown, of Charlotte, NC, Regan Brown and Kailyn Brown, of Simpsonsville, SC; a nephew, Clay Brown, of Charlotte, NC; former wife, Kathy Brown; two step-children, Brandy Barnette and Timmy Geiger; and five step-grandchildren, Taylor, Jamie and Jordan McClellan, Brandon Baker and Alex Geiger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shelby Swaney Brown.

The Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 12:30 PM with Reverend Bill Rigsby officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

ANNIE FERGUSON McCLELLAN

August 10, 1936 – September 29, 2013 

ANDERSON, SC - Annie Ferguson McClellan, age 77, wife of William Fred McClellan, of Anderson, went to be with The Lord, Jesus on Sunday, September 29, 2013.

Born in Abbeville County, she was the daughter of the late George S. Ferguson, Sr. (G.S.) and the late Louise Edwards Ferguson.  Mrs. McClellan attended Abbeville school and finished school and business courses at Forrest College in Anderson. She mostly worked in clerical and retail where she loved meeting and greeting people.  Mrs. McClellan was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church, where she was active in the Ester Sunday School Class.

Her family consists of two living sisters, Lois F. Vanadore, of Pelzer, and Judy F. Cary (Bill) of Ninety Six, SC; one living brother, Thomas A. Ferguson (Madonna), of Abbeville, SC; a sister-in-law, Misae K. Ferguson, of Hepzibah, GA, who was the wife of her deceased brother, George S. Ferguson.  She also has one deceased sister, Evelyn I. Ferguson and a niece that will live in our hearts forever, Vickey.  

The Graveside Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. McClellan will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tom Owen officiating.  The family will gather for a time of visitation following the service.

The family will be at their respective homes.

CHARLES McINTYRE

SEPTEMBER 9, 1936 – SEPTEMBER 28, 2013 

TOWNVILLE, SC - Charles Olin McIntyre, age 77, husband of Barbara Ashley McIntyre, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Regency Hospital. 

Born in Laurens, SC, he was the son of the late William Otto McIntyre and the late Lula Belle Armstrong McIntyre.  He served in the United State Air Forces and was retired from Monsanto with 32 years of service.  He was of the Baptist Faith. 

He is survived by his wife of the home their son; Ken McIntyre of Taylors, SC; three grandchildren, Krista and Keeley McIntyre of Taylors, SC,  and Chase McIntyre of Ware Shoals, SC.

The Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the Oakbrook Memorial Cemetery in Greenwood, with the Reverend Dwight Greene officiating.  The family will be at the residence and will receive friends following the service.

INEZ D. PATTERSON

MAY 25, 1922 – SEPTEMBER 21, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Inez D. Patterson, age 91, wife of Melvin Patterson, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at her home.

Born in Oconee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry Davis and the late Bessie Oakley Davis.  She had retired from Abney Mill with over 25 years of service. Mrs. Patterson was a faithful member of New Prospect Baptist Church; she was an avid vegetable and flower gardener.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, and their daughter Sandra Patterson of the home; sister, Kate Bowen of Anderson, SC, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters; Elise Hill, Clara McClellan, and Joann Keasler.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 11:00 am at New Prospect Baptist Church, with the Reverend Dr. Tony Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Patterson will be placed in the church at 9:30 am Tuesday morning.

The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.

ROBERT WALKER SUTTON

SEPTEMBER 28, 1951 – SEPTEMBER 21, 2013 

ANDERSON, SC - Robert Walker Sutton, age 61, husband of Debbie Clanton Sutton, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at MUSC in Charleston.

Born in New Orleans, LA, he was the son of the late Robert Walker Sutton, Sr. and the late Lillian A. Henderson Sutton.  He had served in the United States Navy, and worked has a technician at Bosch-AFCO.  Mr. Sutton was a member of New Springs Community Church. 

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Clanton Sutton of Anderson, SC; sons, Ryan Sutton and his wife, Evelyn of Anderson, SC, and Shawn Sutton also of Anderson, SC; grandchildren, Haygan, Carter, Layla, Maddox, Riot and Landon Sutton; sisters, Jackie Boyd and her husband, Bob of Baton Rouge, LA, Lynne Ross of Slidell, LA, Debbie Kelley and her husband, Steve of Murfreesboro, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Pastor Dale Singleton officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home before the service from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm.
