JIMMY L. SMITH

January 31, 1949 – September 5, 2013 

ANDERSON, SC - Jimmy Logan Smith, age 64, of 6916 Hwy 187, Anderson, SC, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2013, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Edward Lynn “Boots” Smith and the late Ruth Louise Smith.  He was a 1968 graduate of T.L. Hanna High School.  Jimmy was formerly employed with Publix and had also worked at Ryobi.  He was an avid sports fan, especially Clemson Tigers football and Atlanta Braves baseball.  He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and of the Celebration Sunday School Class. 

He is survived by his brother, Major Al Smith of Rocky Mountain, NC; his sisters, Judy S. Rhodes and her husband Gene and Sandra Robinson and her husband Larry all of Anderson, SC; his special uncle and aunts, Bobby and Nancy Smith and Lecey Wood, all of Anderson, SC; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very dearly. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Irma Crocker Smith and a sister, Debra Slater. 

The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 2:00 PM with his brother, Al Smith, Reverend Mike McCormick and Reverend Evan Hill officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  Honorary escorts will be the Celebration Sunday School Class of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Building Fund, 187 Anderson Avenue, Anderson, SC 29625.

MILDRED “MICKEY” PAUL

February 8, 1937 – September 5, 2013

Jessie Mildred Nichols Paul, age 76, of 434 Boiter Road, Williamston, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Thursday, September 5, 2013, at the Rainey Hospice House.  Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Leemon Nichols and the late Maude Haguewood Nichols.  She was a loving and devoted wife, first to the late Randy Taylor until his death in 1959, then to Henry Paul who passed away in 2002. 

Mrs. Paul was a graduate of Anderson’s Girls High School.  For many years, she was a sales associate at Wal-Mart in Fort Lauderdale, FL, then on Liberty Highway in Anderson.  Mickey loved her family dearly and enjoyed going on cruises as well as fishing and reading.  She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Tabernacle. 

Survivors include a son, Danny Taylor and his wife, Donna, of Williamston; 2 daughters, Cheryl Vickery and her husband, Mike, of Williamston and Angie Taylor and her significant other, Robert Ginn; a step-son, Henry Paul and wife, Celia, of Miami, FL; 3 brothers, Harold Nichols and wife, Phyllis, of Pelzer, Earl Nichols and  wife, Betty, of Anderson, and Calvin Nichols and wife, Linda, of Anderson; a sister, Maude Shiflett of Iva; also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. 

In addition to her parents and husbands Randy and Henry, Mrs. Paul was preceded in death by a son, Randall Taylor; and 2 brothers, James and Bubba Nichols.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Mildred Paul will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013, at 3:30 PM at the McDougald Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Duncan officiating. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 PM until 3 PM.

The family suggests that contributions in memory of Mrs. Paul be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

ELLEN M. LOCKABY

PENDLETON - Ellen Mullikin Lockaby, 86, widow of W. Jesse Lockaby, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013.

Born September 24, 1926 in Pendleton, she was the daughter of the late William Arnold Mullikin and Ruth Mullikin McAlister. She was Valedictorian of her class at Pendleton High School and attended Draughon's Business College. Mrs. Lockaby was a retired bookkeeper with Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. in Greenville with 52 years service. She was a member of Six & Twenty Baptist Church where she served as church pianist and organist for over 40 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynn L. Wilson and husband, Spencer of Seneca; son, W. Timothy Lockaby and wife, Marla of Powdersville; four grandchildren, Ashley W. Jaillette, Katie W. Bouchillon, Jared and Kayla Lockaby; five great grandchildren, William Scott Jaillette, Joseph Spencer Jaillette, Eva Elizabeth Jaillette, Caleb Barry Bouchillon and Joel Thomas Bouchillon; sister, Betty M. Brackett of Shelby, NC; and a particularly devoted niece, Deborah Brackett Edwards of Shelby, NC.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara M. White.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Six & Twenty Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Willie Honea. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the residence.

CHARLES ADRON MOORE  

January 28, 1922 – September 2, 2013

Charles Adron Moore, age 91, of 313 Kingston Way, passed away on Monday, September 02, 2013, at AnMed Health and Medical Center.  Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Charlie Alford Moore and the late Clara James Moore.  For sixty years he was the devoted husband of the late Gladys Martin Moore until her death in 2001.

Mr. Moore was retired from LaFrance Industries where he worked as a knife sharpener.  He was of the Baptist Faith and his preference was Oakwood Baptist Church.  Adron was a member of Ruff Masonic Lodge # 240.  He proudly served his country in the US Army, serving during WWII.   Mr. Moore worked hard, was a good husband, father and provider, and enjoyed playing golf. 

Survivors include a son, Charles Ansel Moore of Anderson; 2 sisters, Mary Hunt and Grace Fowler and her husband, Curtis, both of Anderson.  Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents and his wife, Gladys, Mr. Moore was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Buchanan, a brother, Kenneth Moore, and 2 sisters, Mable Raines and Sybil Moore.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Charles Adron Moore will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013, at 2 PM, at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Bartlett officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.

WILMA REEVES KAY

Mrs. Wilma Reeves Kay, 92, of Anderson, passed Sunday at NHC of Anderson. 

Born in Seneca, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ola Mae and Wilson Reeves.  Although her first name was Dorothy, everyone knew her only as Wilma.  She was married for 67 years to the late John Cullen Kay, II, of Abbeville.  She worked as a nurse in Bamberg for many years, before moving to Anderson in 1963.  A longtime Anderson resident, she retired as the head fitter of the lingerie department from the original Gallant Belks Department Store in downtown Anderson.  She had a huge heart and a strong spirit; her family and friends were the most important facets of her life.  She was a devoted wife and mother, and dedicated to her two longest friends, Mrs. Dot Weeks and Mrs. Juanita Hester.  Constantly generous with her time and her home cooking, she was always there to ease the load of someone else’s burden with a prayer and a meal.  She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Anderson, and her faith in prayer was her strength.

She was preceded in death by her husband John C. Kay, II; her children, John “Dickie” Kay, III, of Ehrhardt; William Charles “Charlie” Kay, of  Anderson; and Wilson Jerome “Jerry” Kay, of Chester; and her siblings, Sarah Reeves King of Anderson, Margaret Reeves Dezendorf of Atlanta, GA, William Reeves of Anderson, and James Reeves of Seattle, Washington.   

Survivors include Grandson John C. Kay, IV and wife Christie, and great grandsons Cullen and Christopher, of Greenville, NC; Granddaughter Sharon Wellman and husband Michael, and great grandsons Hunter and Donald of Augusta, GA; and Granddaughter Mary Ann Todd and husband Jessie of Chester, SC.  The family wishes at this time to express their gratitude for the care, concern, compassion, and assistance consistently shown by longtime family friend, Juanita Hester.  Mrs. Hester is considered a family member, and her devotion to Wilma will always be remembered and appreciated.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Paul Frey. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson.

AUSTIN BRYANT

JANUARY 8, 1929 - AUGUST 30, 2013

IVA, SC - William Austin Bryant, age 84, of Iva, SC, husband of the late Mary Louisa Bryant, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, SC, he was the son of the late William Lonnie Bryant and the late Magnolia Evans Bryant. Mr. Bryant attended school in Calhoun Falls, SC, was a member and an elder of Iva ARP Church, and sang with different gospel groups for over 55 years.  He was retired from the Iva Manufacturing Company. 

He is survived by his daughter; Rebecca Anne Bryant; brother, George Bryant (Ruth); and sisters, Lizelle Ellis, Hazel Parham, Helen Burdette and a sister-in-law, Sara Burdette; he is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents and his wife of 62 years, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Richard, Reedy, Broadus, Gerald and Archie Bryant, Clarence, J.D. and Charlie Compton; sisters, Mabel Crittendon, Madge McCoy, Judy Putnam, Betty Ross and Cleo Garrett; step-mother, Annie Compton Bryant. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 2, 2013, 3:00 pm at Iva ARP Church, with the Reverend Steve Hardy, Reverend Jerry Gray and Reverend Mike McMillion officiating. Interment will follow in Iva City Cemetery.  

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at Iva ARP Church on Monday from 12:00 pm until 2:30 before the service.

HOYT T. VICKERY

OCTOBER 1, 1941 - AUGUST 30, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Hoyt T. Vickery, age 71, husband of the late Connie Sue Vickery, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at AnMed Medical Health Center.

Born in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Bunyan B. Vickery and the late Mary Nell Franklin Vickery.  Mr. Vickery was retired from Oconee Nuclear Station with Duke Power, where he worked  as a shop foreman in the fabrication shop. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.  He was a caring father, grandfather who was dedicated to his family and the needs of others.

He is survived by his sons; Randy Vickery,  Todd Vickery and his wife, Gwynne, and Dennis Vickery and his wife, Dana, all of Anderson; five grandchildren; Tyler, Hunter and Caroline Vickery, Blaise and Mason Owens; one great-grandson, Garrison Vickery; sisters, Sarah Yeargin, Jewell Wright, Caroline Molina, Shirley Andrews, Brenda Thompson, and Kathie Davis.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Eugene Vickery; one brother, George Albert Vickery.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Faith Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Hamman and Reverend Paul Williams officiating.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.   The family will receive friends on Monday, September 2, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.

KAITLYN JOY MOODY

FEBRUARY 7, 2000 - AUGUST 30, 2013   

TOWNVILLE, SC - Kaitlyn Joy Moody, age 13,  passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Ft. Walton Beach, FL,  she was the daughter of Michael Lynn Moody- Hall of Dyersburg, TN and Angela Ruth Kendall Gilbert and her husband Joshua, of the home.  Kaitlyn had attended Townville Elementary School and was attending Riverside Middle School.  She enjoyed playing  music, she was a member of the Riverside Middle School Band where she played the  clarinet  and also enjoyed  playing the  piano.  Kaitlyn enjoyed having fun with her friends, and the beach.  She was a member of Townville Assemble.

She is survived by her parents; parental grandparents, Johnny Moody of Navarre, FL and Carol Moody of Dyersburg, TN; maternal grandparents, Fred and Wanda Kendall of Applecreek, OH; and her boston terriors, Daisy & Duke.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 4:00pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Pastor Dave Banks and the Reverend Patrick Jinks officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Monday, September 2, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

MARVIN EDWARD SHAW

April 21, 1932 – August 27, 2013

IVA, SC - Marvin Edward Shaw, age 81, died peacefully and entered his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. 

He was the son of the late William Edward Shaw and the late Onie Burdette Shaw.  He is survived by his daughter, Debora M. Shaw; his son, William Edward Shaw (Charlene); his granddaughter and her husband, Crystal and Ray Boles; his great-granddaughter, Caitlin Rae Boles; his special lady-friend, Dorothy Simpson; his siblings, Maureen Chamblee (Whitt), Daniel “Pete” Shaw (Gail) and Sally Prevost; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Miriam Ozmint Shaw; and his brother, Wilbur Shaw.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 30, 2013 from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM at Union Baptist Church. The Funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM with Reverend Mike McMillion and Reverend Dick Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Honorary Escorts will be The Men’s Bible Class. 

The family will be at the home of his daughter, 101 McKee Street, Iva, SC.

Marvin was a used car dealer at Shaw’s Used Cars and worked in real estate at Shaw’s Land Developers.  He had been in business over 60 years.  During this time he developed over 25 subdivisions in the Iva, Starr, Abbeville, and Lake Seccession areas.  He was instrumental in the organization of the Iva Rescue Squad and the Iva Fire Department and serving on both of their Board of Directors for many years.  Presently, he served on the Board of Directors of the Starr Iva Water District. He was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast and enjoyed riding his motorcycle as long as his health permitted.

Marvin fought kidney failure for 5 years.  He fought a good fight with the help of, as he would say, “The Master Upstairs.”  He was a member of Union Baptist Church of Iva.  He loved his church and his church family.  The Shaw family would like to thank his church family for all of their thoughts, prayers and visits and the Belton- Honea Path Fresenius Dialysis Center for everything.  It was a tough treatment but their staff brought sunshine to his day.  He loved you all!

LARRY A. KERR

September 28, 1939 – August 25, 2013 

ANDERSON, SC - Larry Andrew Kerr, age 73, of Anderson, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Central, SC, he was the son of the late Henry W. Kerr and the late Myrtle Lipscomb Kerr. He proudly served his country in the South Carolina National Guard. He retired after many years of service to BASF.  Larry had been a member of Piercetown Fire Department since 1965 and currently served on the Board of Directors.  He attended the River of Life Church of God.

He is survived by his brother, Dwain Kerr (Ann) , of Dalzell, SC; and two sisters, Rowena Reynolds (Gene), of Greenville, SC and Elaine Elrod (Jimmy), of Williamston, SC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Kerr. 

The family will be at the home of Elaine and Jimmy Elrod, 141 Firetower Road, Williamston, SC 29697 and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel with Reverend Kevin Jones officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

ROBERTA N. MOORE

ANDERSON - Roberta Nicholson Moore, 79, of 305 Sunset Drive, died Saturday, August 24, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born May 11, 1934 in Gastonia, NC, she was the daughter of the late Radford Lee and Nettie Canipe Nicholson and was reared in the home of the late William Talmadge and Ollie Bell Daniel. She was retired from the finance industry and enjoyed cooking, gardening, and loved her family. Mrs. Moore was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her son, Tommy Moore and fiancee, Teresa Patterson; daughter, Becky Stoddard and husband, Ken; son, Andy Moore and wife, Misty, all of Anderson; grandchildren, Ashleigh Stoddard, Bryson Stoddard, Michael Stoddard, Parker Moore, Hayden Moore, Hannah Moore, and Haleigh Moore. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Barney, M.C., Bill, Buddy, and Joe Nicholson; sisters, Janie Snow and Betty Hanvey; stepsister, Ruth Joiner, and stepbrother, Roy Daniel. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Jack Couch. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Becky and Ken Stoddard, 209 Terrace Drive, Anderson.

GREYSON DYCHES

ANDERSON - Greyson Cruz Dyches, infant son of Gary and April Dyches, of 670 New Hope Road, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013. 

Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Christian Dyches and Colton Yates; three sisters, Kaleigh, Gracie, and Graylan Dyches; grandparents, Frankie and Rita Dyches; Jackie and Kim Holmes; and Randy and Trish Arnold; great grandparents, Clyde and Vernie Patterson; Hazel Burdette; and Rosevelt Dyches.

He was preceded in death by great grandparents, M.O. and Maybell Holmes and Helen Dyches. 

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2013 at New Silver Brook Cemetery.
