SANDRA ELGIN

ANDERSON, SC - Sandra”Sandy” Bolt Elgin, age 56, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013, at her residence.

Born in Anderson, on July 9, 1957, she was the daughter of O’Dell Wells Cole, of Anderson, SC the late Calvin Edward Bolt and the step-daughter of the late Dan Calhoun Cole.  Sandra was a 1975 graduate of Westside High School and graduated from Tri County Technical College. She worked for Clemson University for over 36 years at the Secretary for the Department Head of the School of Architecture.  

She is survived by her husband, Stanley Dewaine Elgin, of the home; and her sister-in-law, Kim Martin and her husband Cecil, of Anderson.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E. Calhoun Street, Anderson, SC 29621.

SYBIL CRAWFORD

ANDERSON, SC - Sybil Catherine Jennings Kelley Crawford, age 76, of Anderson, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Anderson, SC on June 21, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Joe Jennings and the late Mary Viola Reid Jennings Medlin.  She was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen “Kadi” Forrester and her husband Wesley of Anderson, SC and Sharon Neipp and her husband Francis of Anderson, SC.; four grandchildren, Brandy Forrester, Travis Forrester, Kyle Neipp and Kaitlyn Neipp; and a brother, Buddy Medlin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, O.D. Crawford, and her siblings, Margaret Harper, Elizabeth Kerr, Lamar Medlin and Carl Medlin.

There will be a celebration of life and shared memories held at The McDougald Funeral Home Family Life Center from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 PM on Wednesday, October 30, 2013.  During the celebration the family encourages sharing of photos and stories. Mrs. Crawford’s body will be at The McDougald Funeral Home from Noon until 1:30 for public viewing.  The Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Chris Sustar officiating.  

The family will be at their respective homes.

WILLIAM THOMPSON

Anderson, SC - William Walker Thompson, 88, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013, at National Health Care.  

Born on September 1, 1925 in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Dr. James Robert Thompson and the late Alice Ducworth Thompson. He was a graduate of Boys High School and was a retired dairy and registered Angus farmer.  He served on the Advisory Board of C&S bank, on the board and as president of Production Credit Association, as host for registered Angus Field Day at the farm, and as Soil Conservationist of the Year. He was a former volunteer for Meals on Wheels-Anderson. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by two daughters Sandra (Steve) Kirven and Patricia Drew, both of Anderson;  two grandchildren Coleman Kirven of Greenville, SC and Elizabeth Drew of Atlanta, GA;  and three great granddaughters Porter, Camille and Cole Kirven, of Greenville, SC

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October, 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Old Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by the Reverend Dr. Dennis Tedder with visitation to follow the service.

The family wishes to thank all his caregivers on Station 6 at NHC with special thanks to Ru, Wendy, Elizabeth, and Dee.

Hilda "Ginger" Cothran

Anderson, SC - Hilda Joyce "Ginger" Johnson Cothran, 82, widow of John B. Cothran, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 at Fellowship Health and Rehabilitation Center. 

Born December 27, 1930 in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Levis and Hilda Duncan Johnson. She was a 1949 Greenville High graduate and attended Furman. She loved horseback riding, trips to Edisto, time spent at Lake Hartwell and being with her family. She loved her church, Zion United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Mother of 3 boys, she had to become an accomplished seamstress. Later in life she started working with Anderson Interfaith Ministries and  being a part of their community ministry. 

Surviving are her sons, Skip Cothran and wife, Suzy of Hampton, VA, Jack Cothran and wife, Margaret and Ben Cothran and wife, Ann all of Anderson; 5 grandchildren, Josh, Grant, Scott, Rachel and Matthew Cothran and a brother, Jack D. Johnson and wife, Pat of Zebulon, Ga. 

After a private graveside service, a memorial service will be held Wednesday at 4:30p.m. at Sullivan-King Mortuary with Richard Brennan officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:30p.m. prior to the service at the mortuary, 3205 Hwy 81 N. 

The family is at the home of the son, Ben and Ann Cothran, 601 Woodlake Road, Anderson.

LUANN FORD

STARR, SC - Luann Ruth Finley Ford, age 59, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2013, at her residence.

Born in Greenville, SC on September 15, 1954, she was the daughter of Thomas Alfred Finley, of Greer, SC and Ann Bolen Curry, of Greenville, SC.  She was a graduate of Greenville High School. She worked as a loan manager at the Greenville Heritage Federal Credit Union in Greenville, SC with over 17 years of service.  She also was employed with the Thompson and King Law Firm in Anderson, SC.  She lived in the Starr community for over 20 years and was a member of Starr Baptist Church, where she was active in the church choir and taught Sunday School. 

She is survived by her son, John Ford of Double Springs, AL; two sisters, Monica Craig and her husband Tom of Pittsboro, NC and Susan Ackerman and her husband Fen of Snellville, GA; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at the Starr Baptist Church with Reverend Tony Howell officiating.  Interment will follow in the Starr Baptist Church Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday, at the church, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Erline D. Whitfield

Anderson - Erline Donald Whitfield, 73, of 3201 Severn Street, wife of W. Henry Whitfield, Jr., died Thursday, October 17, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born May 7, 1940 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Ezell King Donald. She was a member of the Dickson Sassy Chicks Red Hat Society where she was Queen Mother. Mrs. Whitfield was a member of Dickson Memorial United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include her husband, Henry Whitfield, Jr. of the home; daughter, Deby Reese and husband, Gary of Iva; daughter-in-law, Terry Whitfield of Anderson; four grandchildren, Whit Owen (Kelly), Ty Whitfield, Lauren Whitfield and Jessie Whitfield; and a great granddaughter, Camryn Owen. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Donnie and Ronnie Whitfield; brother, Lewis Donald; and her sister, Mary Royster.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Paul Cheezem. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the residence.

Francis Altman

Anderson- Francis Walter Altman, 93, of 111 Norris St., husband of the late Bettie June Dorr Altman, died Wednesday October 16, 2013 at his residence. 

Born July 14, 1920 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Rufus Utley and Mary Ruth Tucker Altman. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a 1939 graduate of Boys High School. He was a retired printer with Altman Printing and was a recipient of the Jefferson Award. Mr. Altman was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for over 25 years and was a member of First Baptist Church and Deacon Emeritus. 

Surviving are his three daughters: Amy A. Roberts of Williamston, June James of the home, and Dorothy Kennedy of Waynesboro, GA; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Dr. Ron Crawford, Chapin.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Anderson with Dr. James R. Thomason officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

MARY KEATON

ANDERSON, SC - Mary Frances Allen Keaton, 76, of 1317 Farmer Road, Starr, SC died Monday night at An Med Health in Anderson.  She was born on June 22, 1937 to the late James Clyde and Inice Odell Farrow Allen in Bowman, Georgia.  She was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter: Mary Powers and husband Bentley of Starr; one brother: Rev. Ace Lee Allen and wife Marleena of Anderson; one sister: Louise Chapman of Anderson; two grandchildren; Lynn Brock and husband Josh of Pelzer and Becky Hanks and husband Michael of Iva; two step grandchildren: Amanda Poole of Anderson and Travis Powers of Anderson; three great grandchildren: James Hayes, Mikey Hanks, and Kodi Brock.   

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: her loving husband: Gary Bennett Keaton and a sister: Mildred Young.  

A funeral will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, October17th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverends Ed Hunsinger and Barry Davis officiating.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.  The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday night, October 16th, 2013 from 6-8:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at 1343 Farmer Road, Starr, SC.

MARGARET KELLEY

November 8, 1934 – October 9, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Heaven is in concert as it is blessed with the arrival of a new opera singer leading all choruses at the right hand of our good Lord. Peggy Evatt Kelley, of Anderson, joined her friends and family members at the side of God this week. But she left making quite an impression on many, many people.

Born in Pendleton, she lived in Anderson. Her husband is Robin B. Kelley Sr. of Anderson, and her children are: son, Robin B. Kelley, Jr. of Atlanta and daughter, Deegie McGill and husband Benjie of Clemson and their two children and Peggy’s grandsons, Ben McGill of Atlanta, and Bobby McGill of Clemson. Peggy’s parents were Waymon and Wilma Evatt, and her sister is Julie Leake of Louisville Kentucky. She Graduated from Converse College with a Masters in Music and voice performance and enlightened everyone she touched with her voice and her music. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Anderson and later attended services at the First Baptist Church in Clemson.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Dr. Robert E. Burks officiating.  The family will gather for a time of visitation following the service.

ANGIE SUTTLES

ANDERSON-Angela Jean Suttles, 47, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, peacefully at her home with her family by her side.  

Born in Anderson, SC, Angie was the daughter of William and Kathryn Feltman. 

In spite of her 15 year struggle with cancer, she actively advocated and volunteered for organizations benefiting cancer research and those battling the disease. She served as The Upstate's LiveSTRONG Leader, organizing annual "LiveSTRONG Day" events. In 2009 she brought Dragon Boating to the Upstate leading a group of female cancer survivors in numerous competitions. Her creativity, like her volunteering efforts, sustained her passion and engaged her advocacy and survivor peers. Through writing, she was able to spread her unique perspective on her journey in international publications.  

She was the wife of Stacy L. Suttles. Stacy and Angie have one son, Caleb H. Suttles of Savannah, GA. She is also survived by brother, Rick Feltman, his wife Rhonda, and their daughter, Laura all of Atlanta.

Funeral service will be held at 2pm Saturday October 12, at High Praises Church of God with Revs. Chris Sustar, Scott Taylor and Donald Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2PM at the church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.The family will be at their respective homes. We ask that you wear yellow in honor of her survivorship and legacy.

ANNIE MAE MARTIN

March 29, 1924 – October 7, 2013 

ANDERSON, SC - Annie Mae Martin, age 89, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Gainesville, GA, she was the daughter of the late William Moody Clark and the late Eva Johnson Clark.  Annie was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her yard as long as her health permitted.  She was a member of Middleton Road Baptist Church. 

She is survived by a sister, Louise Clark Cox, of Anderson; and four nieces, Bobbie Alexander, Janice McEntyre and Lucia Lecroy, all of Anderson and Judy Dupont, of Florida.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Ralph Martin; and two brothers.

The Graveside service was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at 4:00 PM.  Reverend Ralph Carter, who was her pastor and her friend, officiated.

GLENN TAYLOR

ANDERSON- Glenn W. Taylor, 57, of Anderson and husband of Debra Murdock Taylor, died Saturday October 5, 2013 with his family by his side at Duke University Hospital.

Born August 28, 1956 in Dover, Delaware, he was the son of Margaret Walls Taylor and the late JW Taylor. He was a Quality Manager for 3D Systems Corporation in Rock Hill. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and was a passionate music enthusiast who enjoyed all genres.

He is survived by his wife, Debra of the home, daughters, Charlena Taylor and husband, Chris Brechbiel of Anderson, Alison Whitted and husband, Sims of Greenville, and Katherine Taylor of Anderson; son, Zachary Taylor and wife, Britt of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Isabelle and Avery Brechbiel, Weldon Taylor and Frances Whitted; and his mother, Margaret W. Taylor of Dover, Delaware. He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Banning. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday October 11 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Frey officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 AM at the church. Burial will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery, Jack Rabbit Rd., Hayesville, NC.
