CHARLES J. GETSINGER

November 17, 1933 - January 13, 2012

ANDERSON - Charles Jackson Getsinger, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 13, 2012.

Born November 17, 1933 in Williamston, he was the son of the late Amiel and Lucia Elgin Getsinger. Mr. Getsinger was an Army Veteran , serving in the Military Police as a Private First Class. He worked for Terry Bottling Company and Carolina Beer back in the 60's before becoming a salesman for Guy Motors Ford. He was honored in Time Magazine in 1973 for a National Award regarding professionalism, training and hard work. This success led him to owning Getsinger's Used Cars, where he was still working daily. He attended Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church for 48 years.

Although dedicated to his work, his family was his priority and passion. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Jeanes Getsinger. He found great joy in his 3 children, Tony Getsinger, wife, Rita;  Jimmy Getsinger, wife, Tannah; all of Anderson and  Charlene Fitch, husband Thomas of Shelby, NC. He had 6 grandchildren; MerryLee Getsinger Foster, husband, Will, Jonah Getsinger, James Thomas, Maggie and Jackson Fitch and Joshua McGuire; great granddaughter, Ellison Foster; 4 sisters, Betty Fisher, Helen Hamby, Mary Brock and Doris Finley; brother, Fred Getsinger and Charlie's beloved dog, Stewart. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Gertrude King Gabbard, Aileen Wilson and 6 brothers, Pruitt, James, David, Harrison, Johnny and Waymon Getsinger.

Charles, also known as Charlie, Rochester, and various other nicknames, was a lover of life and lived his life to the fullest. In his younger years, he enjoyed fixing up cars and loved watching sports on TV. He was a  devoted family man. Mr. Getsinger spent 58 years with the love of his life and sacrificed always for his children. His goal in life was to provide the best for his family and that he did. His legacy will live on through the business he started, Getsinger's Used Cars, and his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. Everyone who knew him will always remember his sense of humor, his smile and how he loved to joke around. Please pray for the family each day as his life here on Earth is such a loss for so many.

Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1:30pm at Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Brent Lollis officiating. Burial will follow at M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery with military honors by the Campbell Patriot Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:30 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel.

The family is at the residence.

RAY WYATT BURTON

April 4, 1925 – January 13, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Ray Wyatt Burton, age 86, of Iva, South Carolina went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 13, 2012, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.

Born April 4, 1925, he was one of 9 children born to the late Walter and Essie Leverette Burton.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Irene Burton, a special daughter-in-law, Paula Metz Burton, 3 sisters Sybil Mitchell, Iris Smith and Opal Parnell and 3 brothers, Pringle, Yancy and Lee Burton.  Ray was a life-long resident of Iva, SC where he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family but he also enjoyed fishing and golfing.  He retired from Jackson Mills in 1990, after 45 years of service.

On July 21, 1945, when he was 20 years old, he married the love of his life, Mildred Juanita Smith.  Together they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage, 5 children, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.   

He is survived by his wife and children, Sue Burton and her husband Gene, Terry Burton and his wife Julia, Wade Burton, and Emily Cann and her husband Billy; grandchildren, Mark Burton and his wife Linda,  Pattie Burriss and her husband Travis, Paige  Sutherland and her husband Chris, Wayne Burton and his wife Leigh, Russell  Burton and his wife Deedra, Sommer Smith, and her husband Tommy, Jaime Miller and her husband Rhett, Renee Hollifield and her husband Travis, April Ott and her husband Robby;  great-grandchildren, Tori Burton, Taylor, Carlee and Gracie Burriss, Avery and Emma Grace Burton, Sydney Burton, Kade and Paislee Smith, Joshua Hollifield and his wife Laura, Zachary Hollifield, Bryson, Raelyn, Jordan and Evan Ott, step-great-grandchildren, Mary Kate and Bradley Powell; sister, Annie Smith; and brother, Ansel Burton.

Ray was a member of Rocky River Baptist Church in Iva where he was a faithful servant of the Lord serving in the following ministries:  Sunday School teacher for over 50 years, deacon, RA Leader, Men’s Ministry Leader and bus ministry.  He had a passion for the shut-ins of the church and community.  This led him to organize the tape ministry of the church by delivering video recordings of weekly services while visiting the shut-ins.  He served in this ministry for over 38 years.   Ray was a wonderful, Christian man that will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and church family.

The Funeral Service will be held at Rocky River Baptist Church at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 16, 2012 with Reverend Brian Gray, Reverend Stephen Payne and Rev. Dr. Kirt Mitchell officiating.    Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the home on East Broad Street, Iva and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Flowers are optional.  Memorials may be made to Rocky River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3234 Lake Secession Road, Iva, SC 29655.

JULIA P. COX

BELTON- Julia Pressley Cox, 93, wife of the late Frank Bowlan Cox, went home to be with her Lord, January 12, 2012 at NHC of Anderson.

She was the daughter of the late Rev. Felix H. and Lillian Knight Pressley. She was a member of Lakeside Wesleyan Church and a former member of Union Grove United Methodist Church. She had a loving spirit to everyone who met her.

She is survived by her four children, Terry Cox and his wife, Helen of Belton,  Wallace Cox and his wife, Bessie of Anderson, Jimmy Cox and his wife, Jeanne of Belton and Ranny Cox and his wife, Lynn of Anderson, three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Authur Earle Pressley, sisters, Van Smith and Ruth Rampey all of Greenville. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Judy Cox, brothers, Charles Pressley, Levi Pressley, Corell Pressley and sisters, Juanita Hill, Inez Mauldin, and Cornelia Padgett.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, with Revs. William French and Howard Addis officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Belton. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Saturday. The family is at their respective homes.

Wilfred Livingston Webb  

November 5, 1922 - January 12, 2012 

ANDERSON, SC - Wilfred Livingston Webb, age 89, died at the Hospice of the Upstate on January 12, 2012.
Born November 5, 1922, in Anderson County, he was the eldest son of the late Wilfred Eugene Webb and Azalee Rampey Webb. 
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ola Lee White Webb; daughter, Mary Lee Lollis of Anderson; grandson, Dusty Lollis of Greer; granddaughter, Breann Lollis Szmurlo and husband, Patrick, of Greenville. Also surviving are sisters, Evelyn Kay and Doris Cromer and brother, Fred Webb.
Mr. Webb was predeceased by one son, Randall Webb; son-in-law, Richard Lollis; brother, Edwin Webb and sisters, Theresa Webb and Thelma Webb Kuhn.
He was a graduate of Boys' High School and Tri-County Technical College, and worked at the Norfolk, VA Naval Shipyards before entering the military. He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army as Sergeant and Squad Leader of A Company 72nd Chemical Mortar Battalion in the Pacific Theater where he also studied at the University of Hawaii. He was a 5th generation of Webb men to serve in the Unites States Armed Forces during wartime.
He worked in textiles, home building as a finished carpenter and cabinet builder. He was passionate about his gardening and his horses.
A devoted member of New Prospect Baptist Church since 1957, he has served as deacon, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, R. A. leader and director, brotherhood director and chaired numerous committees in the church and even preached one Sunday.
The Funeral Service will be held at New Prospect Baptist Church at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 15, 2012 with Dr. Tony Smith, Rev. Bill Ellison and Rev. Tom Turner officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be: Chad Cromer, Ed Webb, Tab Anderson, Phil Anderson, Gene White and Webb McClure. Honorary escort will be the members of the John McLees Sunday School Class. Burial will be held with Military Honors at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.
The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm.

MAGGIE F. RIDDLE  

ANDERSON - Maggie Fant Riddle, 88, of 306 Timms Mill Road, widow of Clifford Riddle, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.  

Born May 18, 1923 in Abbeville, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Vergie Burnett Fant. Maggie was a homemaker and member of Six & Twenty Baptist Church. 

Surviving are her daughters, Bobbie Griffith (Buddy) of Liberty and Peggy Hansen (Craig) of Navarre, FL; son David Riddle of Williamston; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and sisters, Ethel Hayes of Easley and Ollie Newman of Pickens. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.  

Funeral service will be held at 2pm Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Rev. Willie Honea officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 7:30pm at the Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

CECIL LAMAR DAVIS

October 8, 1924 – January 9, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Cecil Lamar Davis, age 87, of 1936 Dobbins Avenue, and husband of Lois Vivian Griffith Davis, died Monday, January 9, 2012, at AnMed Medical Health Center. 

Born in Iva, SC, he was the son of the late Jesse H. Davis and Willie Mae Evans Davis.  Mr. Davis was a Navy Veteran having served on the U.S.S. Lexington during World War II and retired from the Naval Reserves.  While in the Navy, he earned medals for Asiatic-Pacific with 3 stars, Good Conduct, Victory and Navy Unit Commendation.  He worked for a while with Owens Corning Fiberglas and retired from Kanawha Life Insurance Company as a Certified Life Underwriter.  He was a member of Gideons International and the American Legion.He was a faithful and charter member of Bridge of Hope Community Church where he served as board member and substitute pianist. Cecil was a special caregiver to many family and friends. He leaves a legacy of faith by example and quick wit to keep those around him smiling.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by his loving children; Donna Manly and husband, Richard of Anderson; Steve Davis and wife, Pam of Starr; Terriann Smith and husband, Brian of Lexington; and Bradley Davis and Jan Hammond of Morganton, NC, her daughter, Emma Hammond, nine grandchildren; Jason and Warren Manly,Chrissy Madden, Jessie Linker, Ben and James Smith, Carla Evans, Derrick and Brittany Davis, their mother Connie Davis; and nine great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a brother, Beverly B. Davis and sister,Vada Metz.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at 12:30 PM at the Bridge of Hope Community Church with the Reverend Mark Griffith officiating.  Burial will follow at M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.  The family will receive friends at the church Thursday, prior to the service from 11:00 AM until Noon.  The family is at the home. 

We extend special recognition to daughter, Donna Manly, for the loving care provided to our father.  We also wish to thank MedShore for their care shown to Vivian during this time.

Bobby Jay Oakley

August 21, 1930 – January 8, 2012

TOWNVILLE, SC - Mr. Bobby Jay Oakley, age 81, of 415 Lakewood Drive, Townville, died Sunday, January 8, 2012, in Townville.

Born in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Roy F. Oakley and Decie Peace Oakley Sexton.  He graduated from Anderson Boys High School. Mr. Oakley was a career military man and retired from the US Army as a medic. He served during the Vietnam War; the Korean War and had also served two years in the US Air Force.  He worked with the US Postal Service as a Rural Carrier and was a member of the Townville Masonic Lodge and the Sons of Confederacy.  He was an active member of Double Springs Baptist Church where he taught the Men’s Sunday school class.  He will always be remembered affectionately by the members of Double Springs Baptist Church as the Candy Man.

He is survived by his son, Van Oakley and his wife, Lisa of  Harrisburg, NC, and his daughter-in-law, Terry Oakley of Townville; two grandchildren, David Oakley and P. J. Oakley; three great-grandchildren; Justin Oakley, Joshua Oakley and Alyssa Teague and sister, Helen O. Phillips, Anderson. 

In addition to his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by three sons, Bobby Jay, Perry and Furman Oakley and brothers, Charles Ray and John William “Bill” Oakley.   

The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 12, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Double Springs Baptist Church with the Reverend Kyle Caudell.  Burial will follow in Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with full Military Honors and Masonic Rites.  Mr. Oakley will be placed in the church at 10:00 AM.

The family will be at the home of his daughter-in-law, Terry at 1024 Hatton Ford Road, and will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at The McDougald Funeral Home.

KESTER JANE GINN MARCHMAN

December 4, 1912 – January 10, 2012 

Kester Jane Ginn Marchman, 99, of 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson died at her home at Rainey Hospice House on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, following a lengthy illness.  Born December 4, 1912, in Bowman, Georgia, she was daughter of the late John Robert and Sarah Dudley Ginn.  Mrs. Marchman was married to the late Ben Marchman. 

Mrs. Marchman was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, and her family and friends.  She was a member of the Broadway Lake Baptist Church in Anderson.

She is survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Ginn of Hart County, GA, Gladys Ginn of Greenville, SC, and Sadie Ginn of Anderson, who was a loving caregiver to Kester for many years.  Also surviving is a nephew, Alvin Evans (Lucille) who also was a faithful caregiver for his aunt Kester.  A granddaughter, Carol Ashworth Vernevoe also survives.

She was the only living member of her immediate family, thus preceded in death 7 brothers:  Corbin, Gregor, Lisbon, Manson, Nelson, Pascal, and Quaver Ginn;  8 sisters, Brodie Kelly, Dorcas Evans, Erimee Kelly, Fezzan Cordell, Hassie Lackey, Ithmar Fleeman, Jessie Christian, and Ornice Corry.

A graveside service honoring the life of Mrs. Marchman will be held Friday, January 13, 2012 at the Holly Spring Baptist Church Cemetery in Bowman, Georgia, with the Rev. Early Tucker officiating.  The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 PM – 6 PM.

LESTER A. WILLIS

November 23, 1926 – January 9, 2012

Mr. Lester A. Willis, 85 of Elberton Highway, Iva, died Monday, January 9, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.   Born in Hart County, Georgia, he was son of the late Luther and Lizzie Bailey Willis.  For over sixty years, he was married to Alice Bruce Willis of Iva. 

Mr. Willis was retired from the Owens Corning Fiberglass Company following twenty- six years of service.  Prior to that, he was associated with Jackson Mill in Iva for thirty years. Lester was a member of Waggoner’s Camping Club, and loved fishing, gardening, and water sports.  Mr. Willis was a member of Fellowship Wesleyan Church in Iva. 

Left to carry on his legacy are daughters, Rhonda W. Terry (Randy) of Anderson, Leslie W. Hamby (Jim) of Lexington, SC, and Robyn W. Cole (Preston) of Iva; a son Lonnie Willis of Iva; a brother Levis Willis (Janice) of Starr.  Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  Surviving from a previous marriage are two daughters Carolyn Knight (Jerry) and Joan Ball (Eddie) both of Simpsonville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Nora Lee Ashworth, Ruth Vickery and Lily Mae Thrasher; brothers Julian “Jack” Willis and infant brother Edward Willis. 

A service celebrating the life of Lester A. Willis will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at 2 PM at the Community Wesleyan Church (formally Fellowship Wesleyan Church),  at 1906 Elberton Highway, Iva, with Rev. Ron Hamilton and Rev. Stephen Love officiating.  Interment will follow in the Community Wesleyan Church Cemetery.  The family will be at the residence, 1506 Elberton Highway, Iva.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 12 PM – 1:30 PM at the Church. 

Those who choose may make a memorial contribution to the Building Fund, Community Wesleyan Church, PO Box 459, Iva, SC 29655.

David Crenshaw

PENDLETON - David Lee Crenshaw, 63, husband of Lynn Fincher Crenshaw, died Monday, January 9, 2012.

Born April 23, 1948 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Horace Lee and Elizabeth Hudgens Crenshaw. He was a graduate of Pendleton High School, Anderson University, and the F.B.I. National Academy. Mr. Crenshaw was a member of the Pendleton Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years and served as Chief for 21 years. He was a member Pendleton Lodge #34, A.F.M. and Past Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the Hejaz Shrine and the Clemson York Rite Bodies. He served in Law Enforcement for 34 years and formerly served as Sheriff of Anderson County. He received the J.P. Strom Award in 1976. He was currently serving on the Pendleton Town Council. Mr. Crenshaw was a lifelong member of Pendleton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn, of the home; daughter, Jennifer Lynn Crenshaw; son, Ben Crenshaw; and a brother, Frank Crenshaw, all of Pendleton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pendleton United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Ben Barnett and Rev. Lloyd White. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson.

JAMES LAMAR ROBINSON, SR.

AUGUST 8, 1928 - JANUARY 7, 2012

ANDERSON, SC – James Lamar Robinson, Sr., age 83, husband of Frances Shaw Mackey Robinson, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Liberty, SC, he was a son of the late Claude E. Robinson and Geneva Hood Robinson. 

He was a graduate of Keowee High School in Oconee County, served in the United States Army after World War II in Occupied Japan.  Mr. Robinson lived in Greenville, SC for many years retiring from the Smith Transfer Trucking Company.  He was a former member of the Roper Mountain Baptist Church, and the Walden Masonic Lodge.  He has lived in Anderson for the past several years and was a member of the Eureka Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Martha Johnson and her husband, Randall of Walterboro, SC; son, Jimmy L. Robinson and his wife, Gina of Greenville, SC;  step-daughter, Debbie Foster and her husband, Tom of Anderson, SC; step-son, Tony Mackey and his wife, Martha of Williamston, SC; sisters, Ruby Fletcher and her husband, Robert of Anderson, SC; Maude Forrester of Taylors, SC; and Juanita King and her husband, Don of Seneca, SC; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Robinson was preceded by his first wife, Nellie Owens Robinson; brother, C. Edgar Robinson, Jr. and sisters: Winona R. Perry and Frances R. Peterson, step-sons: Richard Mackey and Steve Mackey. 

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at the Eureka Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Ron Fousek.    Interment will follow at Graceland East Cemetery in Greenville, SC.   Mr. Robinson will be placed in the church one hour prior to service. 

The family is at the home and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, January 9, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
