AUDREY HAYES CROMER

ANDERSON - Audrey Hayes Cromer, 92, of Kinston Pointe Apartments, widow of J.B. Cromer, died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at NHC of Anderson. 

Born May 16, 1920 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Hattie Evans Hayes. She was a retired Pharmacy Assistant at K-Mart. Mrs. Cromer was a member of Central Presbyterian Church where she was active in the McArthur/Men's Bible Class, the Joanna Circle, and the Centralites Senior Group. She loved flowers.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce C. Powell and husband, James of Starr, and Linda C. Ledford and her husband, Charles of Clinton; one son, Leland "Joe" Cromer and wife, Avernell of Anderson; two grandchildren, Randy Powell and Michelle Powell Riebe and husband, Matthew; and two great grandchildren, Collin and Madison Riebe.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. David J. Bailey. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. Family members are at their respective homes.

REVEREND WILLIAM THOMAS HOLROYD

July 28, 1923 – April 18, 2013

Reverend William Thomas Holroyd, age 89, of 150 Downs Boulevard, E-210, Clemson, SC, died on April 18, 2013.  Born in Greenville, “Tom” was the son of the late Robert Emory Holroyd, Sr. and the late Mary Cureton Holroyd. 

He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the American and Mediterranean Theaters.  Rev. Holroyd was a graduate of Clemson College and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He was a clergy member of the SC Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, and attended St. John’s United Methodist Church in Anderson.  During his ministry he was the first pastor of Trinity UMC, Anderson, which he helped to organize, and Sandy Springs UMC, Sandy Springs; Epworth Children’s Home, Columbia where he later served on the Board of Trustees; Bellinger’s Chapel, Fairfax and Brunson UMC; Trinity UMC, York; Gramling UMC; India Hook UMC and Aldersgate UMC, Rock Hill; Bethel UMC, Chester; Lyman UMC; Few’s Chapel UMC, Greer and Jackson Grove UMC, Travelers Rest. He was a faithful volunteer for Hospice of the Upstate, Meals on Wheels in Pickens County and the Gleaning House Ministry of Pickens.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 64 years, Malinda Jennings Holroyd; five sons, Ross and wife, Claudine; Will and wife, Carole; Phil; Lee and wife, Patti; John and wife Ruth; one daughter, Jenni Thompson and husband, Terry; four grandchildren:  Alaina Goss, Allie, Nic and Samuel Holroyd; and four great-grandchildren:  Cole, Asher, Lillie and Pearson Goss: a sister, Mary Holroyd Powell and a brother, Robert Frank Holroyd. 

In addition to his parents, Rev. Holroyd was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Emory Holroyd, Jr., and a sister Martha Holroyd Ellison.

The family wants to express deep appreciation to Hospice of the Upstate for the care and love Tom received from them.   

A family committal service will be held at a later time at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson, with Rev. Dan Batson officiating.  No formal visitation is scheduled.

ANNIE CLAIRE TRIBBLE

PENDLETON -Annie Claire Stephens Tribble, wife of Glenn Tribble, died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.    

Born in Anderson S.C. September 18, 1932, she was the second daughter of the late Samuel Arthur and Ruth Tollison Stephens.  She was preceeded in death by her son, Stan, in 1958. Mrs. Tribble was a graduate of Anderson College and Clemson University. She was longtime women’s basketball coach at both Anderson College and Clemson University.  She was inducted into the Clemson University Athletic Hall of Fame, the Anderson College Athletic Hall of Fame and the S.C. Athletic Hall of Fame.  In 2011 she was honored as an Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Legend and in 2012 Anderson University honored her with a reception at the Abney Center and the unveiling of a new basketball floor, named the Annie Tribble Court. She was a member of Pendleton First Baptist Church where she served as chairman of the Keenagers Group (of Seniors). She also volunteered in the Bereavement Office of Hospice of the Upstate.  

Survivors include her husband, Glenn Tribble; two sons, John Arthur Tribble (Donna) and Andrew Glenn Tribble (Jessica), eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren; her sisters Patsy Stephens McCall of Monroeville, Alabama, Sandra Stephens Tatum of Anderson, and Mary Bess Stephens Johnson (Chris)of Ridgeway, S.C.  

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at Pendleton First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Courtney Krueger and Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Monday at the church.

HELEN UNDERWOOD KENT

ANDERSON- Helen Underwood Kent, 101,  died peacefully at the Rainey Hospice House on April 14, 2013.

Born in Oglethorpe, GA in 1912 she was the proud daughter of a railroad station telegrapher. She was a 1933 graduate of the University of Georgia and spent her career as a teacher in Georgia and Florida.

She was the beloved mother of three fine "little boys", whom she loved ceaselessly until her last breath.

RUBY H. BOGGS

ANDERSON - Ruby Lee Harbin Boggs, 88, of Anderson, widow of Walter M. “Lit” Boggs, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013.

Born September 8, 1924 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Calhoun and Nannie Thrasher Harbin. She was a 1942 graduate of Girl’s High School. Mrs. Boggs was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Charter member of Forest Hill Baptist Church and the Hope Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her daughter, Barrie Tinsley and husband, Bobby of Anderson; son-in-law, Tommy Moore of Anderson; grandchildren, Mark Tinsley, Kristy Tinsley, and Melissa Durham; great grandchildren, Morgan, Emma, and Chase; several nieces and nephews; and her caregiver and special friend, Nell Williams.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Boggs Moore, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Tom Owen and Mark Tinsley. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the mortuary following the service. The family will be at the residence Thursday afternoon.

Margaret Elizabeth Kelley

December 4, 1915 – April 16, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Margaret Elizabeth Kelley, age 97 and widow of Curtis Lee Kelley passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Westminster, SC, Margaret was the last living daughter of the late Wade Dickson and Mattie Louise Dickson being preceded in death by her nine brothers and one sister.  Margaret married her devoted husband, Curtis, on April 24, 1937 and established their home in Brevard, NC.  Both were faithful members of Brevard First Baptist Church being committed to mission work and being blessed by having the church’s mission group being named for Margaret’s service.  Later Margaret and her family moved to Greenville, SC in 1958 and became active members of First Baptist Church of Greenville where she taught a Ladies Sunday School Class.  

Margaret was a master gardener, seamstress, incredible cook, an avid reader and very engaged in current events, but her passion was her faithfulness to God and her loving and devoted family.  She was the epitome of a great woman of faith.

Affectionately known by her family and friends as “Grand Marney” Margaret is survived by her daughters, Eleanor McGaha and her husband, Ed, and Ann Kelley; five grandchildren, Dr. Carol Loescher and her husband Walter, Maria Dunlap and her husband Bill, Angela Darby and her husband Bud, Elizabeth Kniskern and her husband Brad, and Jonathan Wooten; and 14 great grandchildren, Mary Margaret, Carolyn, Elizabeth, Eddie, Lydia, Anna, Rebecca, Will, David, Meg, Rachel, JoBeth, Emma, and Margaret.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM with the funeral service beginning in the Chapel at 2:00 PM with the 

Reverend Dr. Johnny McKinney officiating.  A private family committal service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Greenville, SC on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 9:30 AM with the Reverend Dr. Baxter Wynn officiating. 

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Eleanor McGaha.

THOMAS DALE BRANNON, SR

Thomas Dale Brannon, Sr., age 65, of Anderson passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Rainey Hospice House.  Born in Lancaster, SC, he was the son of the late James T. Brannon and the late Ival H. Brannon.  

Dale was a graduate of T.L. Hanna High School, and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Erskine College.  He was President of Human Resources Associate and was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra J. Brannon; a son, Thomas Dale Brannon, Jr. and his wife, Beth, of Anderson; 2 granddaughters, Anna Lea Brannon and Elizabeth Dale Brannon; a niece, Maurica B. Wirick and her husband, Ed, of Chesapeake, VA; also surviving are 3 great nieces and 1 great nephew.  

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his brother, James T. Brannon, Jr., sister-in-law, Reci Brannon, and a nephew, James T. Brannon, III.

A memorial service of worship to honor and celebrate the life of Dale Brannon will be held at Central Presbyterian Church on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 2 PM, with Rev. Dr. David J. Bailey officiating.  The family will be at the residence and will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall at Central Presbyterian Church following the Service of Worship.

Contributions in memory of Dale may be made to Central Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1404 N. Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.

JEFFREY “JEFF” APSEY

March 13, 1964 – April 15, 2013

Jeffrey “Jeff” Dewey Apsey, age 49, of 107 Stevenson Drive, Belton, passed away at his residence on Monday, April 15, 2013, surrounded by the love of his family.  Born in Jacksonville, NC, he was the son of Norman Eugene Apsey of Six Mile, SC, and Willie Mae Wilson of Anderson.  

Mr. Apsey was a Loom Technician and Shift Supervisor at Loom Craft, Inc.  He enjoyed fishing and searching for arrowheads in his spare time.  Jeff proudly served his country in the US Army, including 15 years in the US Army Reserve.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Beverly Sue Epps Apsey of the residence;  2 step-sons, Brandon Eskew of Belton and Kevin McCurry of Anderson; 2 daughters, Krystin Apsey and Kayla Apsey, both of Anderson; 2 sisters, Cynthia Jean Elliott and husband, Robert, and Donna Robinson, and husband Steve, both of Anderson; 2 grandsons, Brayden and Brantley Eskew of Belton; and a number of nieces and nephews.  Also surviving is Jeff’s pet, his constant companion and friend, Jackleg Wilson of the residence.  Mr. Apsey was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Daniese Apsey and a stepson, Devan Burdette. 

The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.  A celebration of the life of Jeffrey Apsey will be arranged by family and friends and will be held on a later date.

KELLY CHESTNUT

May 11, 1966 – April 12, 2013 

ANDERSON, SC - Kelly Sue Lee Chestnut, age 46, of 104 Brook Allen Road, Anderson, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013.

Born in Greenville, SC she was the daughter of Linda Sue Stephens Lee of Anderson and the late Wallace Earl Lee.  She worked in Management for many years with Choice Hotel. She was very passionate about animals and was very active with the Humane Society. 

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Chris Chestnut of the home; a step-daughter Emily Mills of NC; a brother, Michael Wallace Lee and his wife Dawn of Pickens; a sister, Tracy Lee Iannelli and her husband Patrick of Anderson; nieces, Toma and Lillian Chestnut, Amanda Lovelace and Dairy Ann Lee; nephews, Eric Iannelli, Nate Lee, James, Danny and Alex Chestnut; mother and -in-law and her husband, Erdeen Zimmerlee and Ed Zimmerlee; and a God Child, Tiffany Roper.

The Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 3:30 PM.  The family will be at the home of her sister, 117 North Fork Drive, Anderson and will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, prior to the service from 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM.

KAREN ALLEN OSBORNE

December 9, 1960 – April 11, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Karen Ann Allen Osborne, age 52, of Anderson, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of Charles E. and Mary Frances Eberhart Allen, of Anderson.  She graduated from Westside High School in 1978 and attended Anderson College.  She worked at First Citizens Bank and with the Piedmont Candy Company for many years.  She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church.  Karen enjoyed praising the Lord and singing gospel music.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving husband, Randall “Putt Putt” Osborne of the home; three daughters, Terri Ann McGuffin Hall, Jessica Smith and Jennifer Smith, all of Anderson; a brother Reverend Michael Allen and his wife Brenda of Anderson; and a mother-in-law, Ann Cannon of Atlanta, GA. 

The Memorial Service to honor Karen’s life will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Covenant Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Silvey officiating.   

The family will be at the home of her parents and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

BETTY HALE KING

JANUARY 27, 1940 – APRIL 12, 2013

TOWNVILLE, SC - Betty Jean Hale King, age 73, of Townville, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Townville, SC she was the daughter of the late Marvin Wesley Hale and the late Beatrice Johnson Hale.  Mrs. King was retired from the J.P. Stevens Company.  She was a member of the Double Spring Baptist Church.

She is survived by a brother, Cherry Hale and his wife Frances of Starr, SC; a special “adopted” granddaughter, Lauren Heaton; special cousin, Monteen Tanner; one niece and one nephew; and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Hale and Rachel Whitfield.  

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with the Reverend David Blizzard officiating.  Interment will follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.   

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends on Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.
