CHARLIE BOLT

ANDERSON - William Charles "Charlie" Bolt, 68, of Anderson, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born May 25, 1944 in Athens, GA, he was the son of the late Dr. W. Charles and Elizabeth Means Bolt. He was a 1962 graduate of Boys High School in Anderson and was in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve. Mr. Bolt was a sales associate in the Men's Department at Belks in Greenville and previously worked for 35 years with Walters & Hillman in Anderson. He was a lifelong music lover. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he sang in the church choir.

Survivors include his daughter, Hannah Morgan and husband, Ben of Anderson; two grandchildren, Blaise and Caleb Morgan; two sisters, Rebecca "Becky" Bolt Coralli and husband, Dick of Atlanta, GA and Jane Bolt Herstine and husband, Brad of Pendleton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joel Branham Bolt and a niece, Anna Kovaz.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6 at First Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. Dennis Tedder. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Family members are at their respective homes.

SARA TIPPENS SEIGLER

KETCHUM, OK - Sara Lou Tippens Seigler, 92, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Grove, Oklahoma. 

Born July 21, 1920 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late John and Louise Roukoski Tippens. A graduate of Anderson Girl’s High School, Mrs. Seigler moved to Miami during World War II and worked with air transport command. Two years later, she moved to Washington, DC to work in military intelligence. She lived in Washington for many years working for Bender & Bender, then for a legal lobbying firm. She served as executive secretary for  Congressman Jamie Whitten of Mississippi, who was Chairman of the the House Appropriations Committee until her retirement in 1978. She retired to Melbourne, FL in 1981 and moved to Ketchum, Oklahoma in 2006 to be near her daughter. She was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Ted Coombes of Ketchum, OK; grandson, Douglas Shoemaker of Tacoma Park, MD; and her cousin, Annette Sams of Anderson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Gwen Coombes and her sister, Alma Jean Price. 

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at New Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by Dr. Jack Couch. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society.

HOYT H. MORRISON

December 9, 1918 – April 1, 2013

Hoyt Henry Morrison, age 94, passed away at the Hosanna Health and Rehab Center in Piedmont.  Born in Clarkesville, GA, he was the son of the late George Henry Morrison and the late Ora Barron Morrison.  For 70 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of the late Callie Taylor Morrison until her death in 2011. 

Mr. Morrison was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WW II in the European Theater of Operation.  He was a retired Supervisor at Abney Mills and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include 2 sons, Donald Hoyt Morrison and his wife, Elizabeth, of San Antonio, TX;  Kenneth Morrison and his wife, Brenda, of Piedmont, SC; 2 sisters, Edith Williams of Atlanta, GA and Betty Jean Taylor and her husband, Gaines, of Clarkesville, GA; 4 grandchildren, Gary, David, Scott and Todd  Morrison.  Also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and his wife, Callie, Hoyt was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

A graveside service to honor the life of Hoyt Morrison will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 3:30 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Pastor Phillip Sears officiating. The family will be at the home of Kenneth and Brenda Morrison, 104 Jameson Drive, Piedmont, SC, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, from 2 PM until 3 PM.

Raymond Carl Whitten, Jr.

August 1, 1972 – March 27, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Raymond Carl Whitten, Jr. age 40, husband of Crystal Carroll Whitten passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC, Raymond was a son of the late Raymond Carl Whitten and Linda Louise Parks Whitten.  He faithfully served in the National Guard for 6 years and was currently employed with Sargent Metal Fabricators.  

He is survived by his devoted wife of 14 years, Crystal; their loving daughter, Lacie; his sisters, Brenda Stephens and Darlene Baker; and brothers, Sammy, Gary and Marion Whitten.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Steve Whitten. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverends Curtis Lanier, Mitchell Stephens and Terry Baker officiating.  Interment will follow at New Silver Brook with Military Honors.

RUNETTE P. HARVEY

JANUARY 12, 1925 – MARCH 30, 2013

Lowndesville, SC  - Bertha Runette Parnell Harvey, age 88, of Lowndesville, wife of W. Frank Harvey, Jr., passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at her residence.

Born in Abbeville County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas C. Parnell and the late Eunice McCurry Parnell.  Mrs. Harvey was a graduate of Lowndesville High School where she played on the female basketball team.  She was a cloth inspector with the Milliken Plant for 42 years, before she retired.  She was a member of Smyrna United Methodist Church, the Adult Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women’s Missions.

 

She is survived by her husband of the home, sister, Robbie P. Spires of Lowndesville, SC; daughter –in-law, Rebecca H. Harvey of Iva; two grandchildren, Collin Brent and his wife, Jan Harvey of Starr, Alicia Joy Harvey of Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Jana Harvey and Thomas Harvey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Furman, Clyde, Floyd, Mike McCullough; one sister, Willie P. Hanna; and a son, Thomas Frank Harvey. 

The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2:00 at Smyrna United Methodist Church with Reverend Scotty Willoughby and Reverend Eric Shepherd officiating.  Interment will follow in Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery. 

The family will be at the home and will receive friends on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm at Smyrna United Methodist Church before the service.

JOHNNY McCOLLUM

October 3, 1966 – March 26, 2013

STARR, SC - John Alvin McCollum, age 46, of 1433 Farmer Road, Starr, SC passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Galveston, IL, he was the son of Esther Thompson McCollum of Starr and the late Charles McCollum.  He was employed with Smith Drywall and was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Gilbert McCollum of the home; a son, Johnny Lee McCollum of Starr; and four brothers, Charles David McCollum of Starr, James Edward McCollum and his wife Kim of Anderson, Marty Dean McCollum and his wife Debbie of Honea Path and Delbert Eugene McCollum of Anderson.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lisa Ann Foster and Nancy Elizabeth McCollum. 

The Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 12:00 pm at Labor of the Fields Church with Tyus Butler officiating.

WILLIAM “DICKIE” BUSBY

February 12, 1945 – March 29, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - William Isaac Busby, age 68, of 398 Plantation Road, Anderson, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013 at his residence.

Born in Elberton, GA, he was the son of the late Isaac Hodges Busby and the late Ella Louise Chitwood Busby.  William proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at Clark Schwebel and Culp Woven Velvets for many years. He attended church services at The Salvation Army.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Mauldin Busby; four sons, Paul Glenn Busby, James Allen Busby, Mark Nicholas Busby and Chris William Busby; a sister, Cathy Edison; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Stephen McLane officiating.  Interment will follow at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veteran’s Cemetery with Military Honors 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, prior to the service from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM.

MARTHA SHERIDAN

July 11, 1948 – March 25, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Martha Ann Gaines Sheridan, age 64, of 301 Claudine Drive, Anderson, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at her residence.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Gaines and the late Myrtle Smith Gaines.  She worked for many years in textiles at the Milliken Plant (Cushman) in Williamston.  She was a member of Shepherds Chapel. 

She is survived by her loving husband, Joe Dan Sheridan; a son, Cary Wayne Vaughn of Anderson; a step-daughter, Jodi Sheridan Manley and her husband Scott of Enoree, SC; three sisters, Betty Knight, Jeanette Williams and Cindy Powers, all of Anderson; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a special niece and caregiver, Vanessa Knight of Anderson; and a former daughter-in-law, Terri Whitfield of Iva.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Ray Vaughn and five brothers, Donnie Ray Gaines, Roy Gaines, Bobby Gaines, Tommy Gaines and James Gaines.

The Graveside Service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend James Strickland officiating. 

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the Mausoleum Chapel from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

JERRY O. MOORE

Jerry O. Moore, 75, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. He was the son of the late Leonard O. Moore (Bill) and Lillie Cartee Moore.  Surviving him are his wife, Suzanne McCown Moore; his daughter, Andrea M. Bach, and her husband, Bruce, of Fort Myers, Florida; two granddaughters, Claire and Kate Bach; father-in-law, Edward J. McCown; brother-in-law, Jack McCown and his wife, Donna, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; nephew, Christopher McCown of Birmingham, Alabama; and niece, Ellen Spann and her husband, J.T., of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Jerry was a graduate of Anderson Boys’ High School class of 1955 and Springfield College in Massachusetts. After thirty-one years of teaching and coaching, he retired in 1997 from Anderson School District 3. For twenty–four years, Coach Moore was the boys’ physical education teacher at Starr-Iva Middle School where he coached boys’ basketball and football.  He was a basketball referee in church leagues and with the Anderson Recreation Center as long as his health permitted. For several summers, he was co-manager of The Elks Club pool and later co-managed Cobb’s Glenn Country Club pool and summer day camps.  

Jerry fought a courageous battle during his extended illness and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice of the Upstate and Nephrology and Internal Medicine of Anderson, who provided superb care. 

The funeral service will be held at 4 pm, Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Josh Hunt and Chaplain Kevin Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

MILDRED CAUSEY

March 20, 1920 – March 24, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Mildred Meadows Causey, age 93, of 115 Bronco Drive, Anderson, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Hemlock, WV, she was the daughter of the late Harold Meadows and the late Olive Nicholas Meadows.  Mildred retired as a manager of White Jones Hardware.  She was a former member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and a current member of Covenant Baptist Church.  Her passion was giving to others, especially the shut-ins of the church, by quilting and other hand-made gifts.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters. 

She is survived by her daughter, Terri Anderson; three grandchildren, Lindsey Anderson Twitty, Ala Anderson Chappelear and Joshua Ray Anderson; and five great-grandchildren, Mycah, Sienna, Jackson, Hampton and Kiera.

In addition to her parents and her brothers and sisters, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Causey. 

The Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Silvey officiating.  Interment will follow at Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. 

The family will be at the home of her daughter, and will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

JAMES F. BRADLEY, JR.

April 20, 1951 – March 24, 2013

James Franklyn “Jimmy” Bradley, Jr., age 61, of the Baptist Faith, passed away at home on Sunday, March 24, 2013.  Born in Coral Gables, FL, he was the son of the late J. Frank Bradley and the late Betty McCormack Bradley.  For 40 years he was the loving and devoted husband of Nancy A. Bradley.  Jimmy loved to travel and to seek out new adventures and unique eateries.  He treasured sunny afternoons attending Clemson football games and was a lifelong fan of Southern Gospel music.

Left to carry on his legacy, in addition to his wife, Nancy, are twin sons, Kyle Thomas Bradley and his wife, Melanie, of Decatur, GA, and Kirk Timothy Bradley and his wife, Amy, of Charlotte, NC; a sister Jill Elizabeth Dance and her husband, John, of Newnan, GA; and four grandchildren, Reese, Zoe, Davis, and Cole Bradley.  In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Scarlett Bradley. 

A Memorial Service to celebrate and honor Jimmy’s life will be held for family and friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Dwight Greene officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 10 AM.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311 (www.diabetes.org).

ELEN LYNN DAVIS

ANDERSON - Helen Lynn Davis, 93, of Anderson, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born December 11, 1919 in Greer, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Janie Johnson Lynn. She was married to Arthur Albren Davis for 62 years until his death in 2001. Mrs. Davis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was an avid golfer. She was a graduate of Welcome High School and a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson.

Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Davis Boggs of Anderson; son, Ron Davis and wife, Deanna of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Christian Ivey of Myrtle Beach; Amy B. Brousseau and husband, David, Ashley B. Gilreath and husband, Corey, and Tiffany B.  Boggs, all of Anderson, and Andrew Davis of Oxford, Mississippi; great grandchildren, Cooper Austin Gilreath, Boone Arthur Gilreath, and Davis James Brousseau.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Davis Ivey; a granddaughter, Danielle Nicole Ivey; and two brothers, Leroy and Frank Lynn.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Josh Hunt. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of Debbie Boggs, 200 Canebrake Drive, Anderson.
