SARA TIPPENS SEIGLER

KETCHUM, OK - Sara Lou Tippens Seigler, 92, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Grove, Oklahoma.
Born July 21, 1920 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late John and Louise Roukoski Tippens. A graduate of Anderson Girl’s High School, Mrs. Seigler moved to Miami during World War II and worked with air transport command. Two years later, she moved to Washington, DC to work in military intelligence. She lived in Washington for many years working for Bender & Bender, then for a legal lobbying firm. She served as executive secretary for Congressman Jamie Whitten of Mississippi, who was Chairman of the the House Appropriations Committee until her retirement in 1978. She retired to Melbourne, FL in 1981 and moved to Ketchum, Oklahoma in 2006 to be near her daughter. She was a Presbyterian.
Survivors include her son-in-law, Ted Coombes of Ketchum, OK; grandson, Douglas Shoemaker of Tacoma Park, MD; and her cousin, Annette Sams of Anderson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Gwen Coombes and her sister, Alma Jean Price.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at New Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by Dr. Jack Couch.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society.
