RALPH STANDRIDGE

November 28, 1935 – April 29, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Ralph Standridge, age 77, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late “Doc” and Jessie Standridge.  He was a retired construction and ornamental concrete owner and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

The funeral service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 2:30 PM. 

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.

REV. DAVID E. STEVENSON

ANDERSON- Rev. David Eugene Stevenson, 62, of Anderson, died Monday April 29, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born November 16, 1950 in Eastman, GA he was the son of the late Talmadge and Betty Holt Stevenson. He was a graduate of Georgia State University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY.  Rev. Stevenson was a Minister of the Gospel and  served churches in Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina. Rev. Stevenson taught the Good News Sunday School Class at New Prospect Baptist Church and was currently serving as pastor of Gaffney Road Baptist Church in Anderson. He retired from Anderson-Oconee-Pickens Mental Health as a Mental Health Professional with 18 years service.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda H. Stevenson of the home; son, Jonathan David Stevenson (Nina); daughter, Melissa Elgin (Ray), grandchildren; Ragen and Tristan Elgin, Cade and Isabella Stevenson all of Anderson, and brothers, Jeff Stevenson, of Atlanta and Steve Stevenson of Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 PM Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 North Hwy 81 with Rev. Tony Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:30 PM prior to the service at the mortuary. The family is at the residence.

LOLA SHIRLEY DYAR

ANDERSON - Lola Ellison Shirley Dyar, 96, died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at NHC of Anderson. 

Born February 16, 1917 in Belton, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Pallie King Ellison. She was a retired sales clerk from Myers Arnold and was a volunteer at AnMed Health. Mrs. Dyar was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Missions Group and Senior Adult Group.  

She was married to Rev. D. Clarence Shirley for 40 years and served faithfully with him in his pastorate at New Prospect Baptist Church for 29 years. Following the death of Rev. Shirley, she was married to Rev. J.C. Dyar for 13 years.

Survivors include her son, Steve Shirley; daughter, Susan Stamey and husband, Dennis; grandchildren, Jeffrey Stamey (Shannon), Kimberly Barnette (Brad), and Pamela Hammett (Jamie); eight great grandchildren; and her brother, Ed Ellison (Joyce). 

In addition to her two husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Austin and brothers, Greenlee, Grover, Tom, James, and David Ellison. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Prospect Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tom Turner and Rev. Tom Owen. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of Dennis and Susan Stamey, 621 Country Meadows.  

The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of NHC, Station 2 and to special friends, Imogene Cromer, Ann and Melvin Worley and especially Lisa Mitchell.

IRMA C. SMITH

AUGUST 19, 1935 – APRIL 27, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Irma Crocker Smith, age 77, wife of the late E.L. “Boots” Smith, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Crocker and the late Ollie Stone Crocker.  Mrs. Smith graduated with honors from Hanna High School in 1953.  She had worked for the Southern Ice Company for 40+ years, then later she worked for Quick Credit.  She was an active member of The Pine Lake Golf Club and the Pine Lake Women’s Golf Association, where she held the title of club women’s champion several times through the years.  Mrs. Smith was a member of West Whitner Baptist Church and the last surviving member of her siblings.

She is survived by daughters; Sandra Robinson and her husband, Larry of Anderson, SC and Judy Rhodes and her husband, Gene of Anderson, SC; one son, Jimmy Smith of Anderson; five grandchildren, Dean Robinson and his wife, Nicole, Ashley Robinson, Barry Rhodes, Shay Norris and her husband, Randall and Seth Slater; seven great-grandchildren, Mallory Robinson, Ryleigh Robinson, London Robinson, Joseph Rhodes, Billie Rhodes, Kaiden Norris, and Skyla Norris.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Slater and her husband Mike; brothers, Reverend Ira Crocker, Johnny Crocker; grandchildren, Cody Slater and Baby Robinson.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, officiated by the Reverend Dr. Steve Silvey.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will be at the home of Sandra & Larry Robinson, 115 Gregory Court, Anderson, SC, 29626, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

FRANCES J.”SIS” SELF

DECEMBER 15, 1925 – APRIL 26, 2013 

PICKENS, SC - Frances Josephine Whitaker Self, age 87, wife of the late Raymond H. Self, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Heritage Health Care of Pickens.

Born in Pickens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Whitaker and the late Gertrude Taylor Whitaker.  She was of the Baptist faith. 

She is survived by a daughter, Lynn W. Herold; one sister, Wilma Rhymes of Liberty, SC; three half-sisters, Patricia Knight Morrow of Laurens, Linda Rhodes of Liberty, SC and Brenda Hall of Laurens, SC. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter; one son, four sisters and six brothers.

The Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery, Liberty, SC.  The family will receive friends following the service.

DOUGLAS "BO" POORE

ANDERSON - Douglas Eugene "Bo" Poore, 72, of 2513 McKinley Drive, husband of the late Carolyn Vaughn Poore, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born June 14, 1940 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Fred Poore and the late Beatrice Simmons Poore Redd. He was the owner and operator of Anderson Sheet Metal and member of the Anderson Elk's Lodge B.P.O.E. 1206. Bo was a member of Concord Baptist Church. 

Surviving are his 2 sons, Tony Poore and Chris Poore (Frances); daughter, Brigitte Poore; granddaughters, Siena Poore and Mandy Poore Shedd; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Jackie Poore (Donna) and a sister, Glinda Poore all of Anderson. 

A graveside service will be held at 11am Friday at New Silver Brook Cemetery with Rev. Weldon Sellers officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

The family is at the home of the son, Chris Poore, 121 Foxcroft Way, Anderson.

FREDDIE DAVIS

August 15, 1945 – April 23, 2013 

ANDERSON, SC - Freddie Fant Davis, age 67, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Hamer Fant Davis and the late Violet Scoggins Davis.  He had worked for many years in the textile industry, mostly at the Wamsutta Plant.  Most recently he had worked in the engineering department at AnMed Health.  Freddie loved people, he helped people in every way, but above all he especially loved and served Jesus Christ. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple. 

He is survived by his sons, Phillip and Bradley Davis, both of Anderson; a daughter, Teresa Davis Stewart of Anderson; brothers, Jack Davis of Townville and Lewis Davis of Anderson; three sisters, Connie Blair and Jane Richey of Anderson and Betty Swaney of Pendleton; five grandchildren, Joshua Davis, Zachary and Cameron Stewart, and Justin and Alex Davis. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Lois Davis. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Davis and two brothers, Jimmy and Albert Davis. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Gethsemane Baptist Temple with Reverend Sam Duncan officiating. There will be a private interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, April 26, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

RONNIE CROMER

June 14, 1961 – April 19, 2013

NEW PARIS, IN - Ronald Albert Cromer, age 51, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013.

Born and raised in Anderson, SC, he was the son of Dot Greer and the late Jeff Cromer.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army.  Following his military service he lived out his remaining years in Indiana.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Erica Mahon, Ronald Andrew Cromer and Stephanie Cromer; a brother, David Cromer; two sisters, Janice Holbrook and Marsha Cheek; and one granddaughter, Leila Cromer.

The Graveside Service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating.

INA RUTH ELLIOTT

June 9, 1916 – April 22, 2013 

ANDERSON, SC - Ina Ruth Elliott, age 96, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Adams and the late Mittie Locke Adams.  She worked in textiles for many years and was a member of the Assembly Church of God of Anderson. 

She is survived by her daughters, Mickie Nichols of Cleveland, OH, Joann Simpson of Fort Mill, SC, Jeanette Nix and Margaret Tennant of Anderson, SC and Patsy Emerson of Greenville, NC; two sisters, Sylvene Dillingham and Elzora Adams; 15 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her spouse, Fate Elliott; a son, James Parnell; six brothers, Carl, Jim, George “Bo”, Clyde, Clifford and Claude Adams; a sister, Lillie Shirley

The Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the residence, 110 Phillips Street, and will receive friends on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at The McDougald Funeral Home.

LEROY BURDETTE

May 3, 1922 – April 23, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - James Leroy Burdette, Jr., age 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late James Leroy Burdette, Sr. and the late Mittie Loftis Burdette.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre.  He retired from Jackson Mill after 38 years of service.  He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Iva Rescue Squad.  Leroy was a member of Union Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher of the Men’s Bible Class, he sang in the choir and an RA Director. 

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Bernice Imogene Compton Burdette; his children, Sue Cook and her husband Jimmy of Iva, Bobby Burdette and his wife Jane of Greenwood, SC, Eddie Burdette and his wife Sheryl of Easley, SC, Ricky Burdette and his wife Diane of Iva, SC, Ronnie Burdette and his wife Elaine of Anderson  and Randall Burdette and his wife Kim of Iva and; a brother, Kent Burdette of Ware Shoals and a sister, Mary B Smith of Piedmont, SC; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by ten brothers and one sister. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 11:30 AM at Union Baptist Church with Reverend Mike McMillion officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors. 

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM at the church on Friday, prior to the service.

ED RIDGEWAY

ANDERSON - Edward Lee Ridgeway, 85, husband of Christine Lindsay Smith Ridgeway, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 at his residence. 

Born September 12, 1927 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Gary and Lottie Black Ridgeway. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army from September 1950 thru 1952. Ed was a retired plant engineer at Clark Schwebel and a former member of the Anderson Pacesetters Square Dance Club. He was member of Anderson First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Sojourners Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his wife, Christine of the home; sons, Mark E. Ridgeway of Anderson and Steve L. Ridgeway (Mary) of Belton; daughter, Cathy R. Moore (Doug) of Dallas, TX; stepson, Mark L. Smith of Greenville; grandchildren, Susan R. Nunamaker (Troy), Mark E. Ridgeway, Jr., Elizabeth R. Starkweather (Tommy), Paige A. Ridgeway, Ian Moore and Adam Moore; great-grandson, Nathan Branum; step-grandchildren, Emily and Lindsay Smith; sister, Catherine Brewer of Belton and special niece and caregiver, Tracy Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Adams Ridgeway. 

Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 3pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary with Revs. Josh Hunt and Kevin Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3pm prior to the service at the Mortuary, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

The family is at the residence.
