EVELYN DANIEL

August 3, 1922 – May 18, 2013

Sarah Evelyn Nash Daniel, age 90, a resident of 1501 East Greenville Street, formally of H Street, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at National Health Care of Anderson.  Born in Madison County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Rudyard Kipling Nash and the late Willie Mae Lester Nash, of Nash’s Boarding House acclaim.   

A graduate of Anderson Girls High School, Mrs. Daniel was a homemaker, mother and devoted grandmother.  For 33 years, she was married to the late James Thomas “Bub” Daniel until his death in 1974.  She was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was active with the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Diane Smith and her husband, Dennis, and Pat Dunn and her husband, Terry, all of Anderson; a sister, Reba McIntyre of Noble, OK;  also surviving are 8 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, “Bub,” Evelyn was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Glendale Harbin and 3 brothers, Joe R., Randolph, and Rufus Nash.

The funeral service to celebrate the life of Evelyn Daniel will be held on Monday, May 20, 2013, at 11 AM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Duncan officiating.  Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery.  The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, May 19, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.

JAMES LYNN GILBERT

November 21, 1949 – May 16, 2013

James Lynn Gilbert, age 63, of 101 Gilbert Drive, Pelzer, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Trident Medical Center in Charleston.  Born in Dansville, NY, he was the son of Marion Seymour Gilbert of the residence, and the late Harriet Tarbell Gilbert.  Prior to his retirement years ago as a result of disability, Mr. Gilbert was a nursing assistant at Sonya Hospital in New York.  Jim was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, and a huge fan of Jimmy Johnson.  He also enjoyed Elvis music.  Perhaps Jim’s greatest joy was his granddaughters. 

In addition to his father, James is survived by his wife, Dawn Hayes Gilbert; a son, James Seymour Gilbert of Dansville, NY; a daughter, Kimberly Marie Lindem and her husband, Jeremy, of Summerville, SC; 4 brothers, Frederick M. Gilbert who lives in Georgia, Terry L. Gilbert and his wife, Germaine, of Pelzer, Ronald J. Gilbert of Pelzer and Gary M. Gilbert of Pelzer; 2 sisters, Linda D. Guerin and husband Dennis, and Marilyn A. Gilbert both of Pelzer;  and 2 granddaughters, Kendra and Natalie Lindem of Summerville, SC.

The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Mr. Gilbert will be held at 2 PM, on Monday, May 20, 2013, at Midway Bible Church, with Pastor Phil Gerard and Pastor Jon Feusse officiating.  Interment will follow at the Harriet Memorial Gardens, Pelzer.  The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, May 19, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.

RUBY McCOY

May 9, 1931 – May 17, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Ruby Frances White McCoy, age 82, of Anderson, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Hart County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Columbus White and the late Cora Bailey White.  She worked at Clark Schwebel for over 34 years.  Ruby was a faithful member of Garner Memorial Baptist Church.  

She is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence McCoy, Jr.; a son, Ronnie Cleveland and his wife Peggy of Pelzer, SC; five grandchildren, Christy Bascue, Kristie Blackwell, Kevin Burgess, Allison Greer and Susan Egger; 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; a brother, James Alton White; and a sister, Dorothy Fowler. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM at The McDougald Funeral Home.  The Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel with Reverend Isham Gilcrease officiating.  Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

MARJORIE BENNETT

May 11, 1938 – May 16, 2013

BELTON, SC - Marjorie Bennett, age 75, of Belton, SC, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Anderson, SC, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Gene Anderson and the late Bessie Golden Anderson.  She received both her undergraduate and Master’s Degrees from Furman University. She taught public school for 38 years, retiring from teaching music and drama at Greenville High School.  She was the organist and choir director for Abiding Savior Lutheran Church for over 20 years and was formerly the organist at Neal’s Creek Baptist Church.  Marjorie was active in the Senior Follies and The Red Hat Club. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Bobby A. Bennett; a son, Jeffrey Bennett and his wife Teresa of Travelers Rest, SC; a daughter, Ashley Bennett Tingom and her husband Patrick of Greenville, SC; a sister, Nancy Thomas; five grandchildren, Chelsea Bennett, Caleb Bennett, Caroline Bennett, and Jacob and Maxwell Tingom.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 1:30 until 2:30 pm at Neal’s Creek Baptist Church. The Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 PM with Reverend Alex Henderson and Pastor Howard F. Jones officiating.

EUNICE M. WALKER

STARR - Eunice Moore Walker, 88, of Starr, died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born October 7, 1924 in the Neals Creek Community of Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Sanford and Ida Burton Moore. Mrs. Walker was a retired employee of Clark-Schwebel and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Green and husband, Gary of Starr; two sons, Marlon Walker and wife, Jan of Anderson and Bobby Walker of Starr; eight grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. The family would like to express their appreciation to her great granddaughter, Haley Jordan, for her love and kindness as a special caregiver. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Lee Walker; son, William Walker; and her brother, Ligon Moore. 

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Ed Hunsinger. Burial will follow in South Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of Marlon and Jan Walker, 1196 Embassy Drive, Anderson.

BERNICE BURDETTE

April 18, 1923 – May 16, 2013 

IVA, SC - Bernice Imogene Compton Burdette, age 90, of Iva, SC, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, SC, she was the daughter of the late C.W. Compton and the late Roxie Elizabeth Hill Compton.  She retired from textiles and from food service.  Bernice taught private guitar lessons and was an avid seamstress.  She was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery for many years. She was known for being a faithful wife, a special mother and a loving grandmother. 

She is survived by her children, Sue Cook and her husband Jimmy of Iva, Bobby Burdette and his wife Jane of Greenwood, SC, Eddie Burdette and his wife Sheryl of Easley, SC, Ricky Burdette and his wife Diane of Iva, SC, Ronnie Burdette and his wife Elaine of Anderson  and Randall Burdette and his wife Kim of Iva; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, James Leroy Burdette; four brothers and four sisters.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Union Baptist Church. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:30 PM with Reverend Mike McMillion officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

BARBARA KAY WHITFIELD

June 26, 1937 – May 15, 2013 

Barbara Jean Kay Whitfield, age 75, of 722 O’Neal Ferry Road, Townville, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Oconee Medical Center in Seneca.  Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Clifton Kay and the late Willie Mae Royster Kay.   For 56 years, she was the loving and devoted wife of Lewis O. Whitfield of the residence.

Mrs. Whitfield worked for many years as an Inspector with Jantzen Textiles in Seneca.  After her retirement, she focused on being a housewife, mother, and grandmother. Barbara was a graduate of Townville High School and was a member of Dickson Memorial United Methodist Church.  As long as health permitted, she enjoyed gardening and sewing.   

In addition to her husband, Lewis, Mrs. Whitfield is survived by a son, Wayne Whitfield of Townville; 2 daughters, Melissa Whitfield Elgin and her husband, Tim, of Townville and Teresa Whitfield Buckley and her husband, Pat, of Clemson; 3 brothers, Larry Kay and his wife, Juanita, of Belton, Billy Kay of Hartwell, GA, and Jerry Kay and his wife, Sandra, of Williamston;  2 sisters, Ann Soileau and her husband, Joe, of Anderson, and Jessie Mae Grant and her husband, Ray, of Townville.  Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. 

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Barbara Kay Whitfield will be held Friday, May 17, 2013, at 2 PM at Dickson Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul Cheezem officiating.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery.  The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 5 PM until 7 PM.

B.J. DURHAM

ANDERSON - Billy Joe "B.J." Durham, 75, of 3215 Hwy 29 North, husband of Peggy Roberts Durham, passed away Tuesday May 14, 2013 at his residence. 

Born in the White Plains Community, he was the son of the late George H. and Eva Bagwell Durham. B.J. was a 1955 graduate of White Plains High School and member of the SC National Guard. He formerly owned and operated Electrical Supplies Company and was currently the owner of Durham's Industrial Maintenance Services. He handled the mechanical, warehousing and trucking for Electrolux for many years. He was a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto by the Governor of SC and member of Friendship Baptist Church.  

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Roberts Durham and son, Joe Michael Durham both of the home; brother, Hugh Durham and his wife, Elaine of Williamston; sister, Deloris D. Patton and her husband, Dan of Piedmont; sister-in-law, Ann Durham of Piedmont; nephew, Jerry Trotter and nieces, Beth Dalrymple, Kathy Webb and Gayle Trotter. B.J. was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Ray and Marshall Durham and sister, Rachel D. Trotter.

Services will be held at 2pm Thursday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. Bill Ellison officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. 

The family is at the residence.

KEITH SCARBROUGH

October 3, 1965 – May 12, 2013 

James Keith Scarbrough, age 47, of 108 Harlond Drive, Anderson, SC, passed away on Sunday, May 12, at AnMed Health Medical Center, Anderson.  Born in Searcy, AR, he was the son of Jimmy Scarbrough and Shirley Harrell Scarbrough of Kensett, AR.  For 21 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Carla Ashley Scarbrough of the residence.

Mr. Scarbrough was the Director of Distribution for Walgreens Distribution Centers in Anderson, SC, and Pendergrass, GA.  He earned a BA Degree from Harding University, Searcy AR and an MBA Degree from Webster University in Ft. Smith, AR.   He proudly served in the US National Guard for 6 years.  Keith was a member of High Praises Church in Anderson. 

In addition to his parents, and his wife, Carla, he is survived by a son, Devin Scarbrough of Denver, CO; a daughter, Ashlyn Kate Scarbrough of the home; a brother, Rodney Scarbrough and his wife, Jeanine, of Searcy, AR;  a niece, Maddie Scarbrough and a nephew, Tanner Scarbrough, both of Searcy, AR. 

A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Keith Scarbrough will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at 2 PM, at the New Horizon International Ministries Church in Searcy, AR.  Interment will follow at the White County Memorial Gardens in Searcy.

A visitation will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson, on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.   The family will receive friends in Searcy, AR, at the Powell Funeral Home on Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.

SHIRLEY S. FLOYD

ANDERSON - Shirley Sexton Floyd, 76, of 118 Palmetto Lane, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born April 6, 1936 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Marcus and Ruth Jones Sexton. She was a retired employee of Anderson Memorial Hospital and was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister and was devoted to her family.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry B. Floyd, Sr. of the home; daughter, Jenny O'Brien and husband, Kenneth of Anderson; three sons, Jerry B. Floyd, Jr. and Billy Floyd of Anderson, and James Floyd of Greenville; five grandchildren, Cody O'Brien, Kristi Raville, Matthew Floyd, Patrick Floyd, and Dustin Floyd; three great grandchildren, Gavin Floyd, Kayleigh Floyd, and Kyle Raville; two sisters, Sue Cartee and Gloria Stone of Anderson; and three brothers, Randall Sexton, Sonny Sexton, and Roger Sexton, all of Anderson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Ruth Floyd and two grandchildren, Kelli O'Brien and Mitchell Clinkscales.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Bill Rigsby and Dr. Mack Tester. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. EDWARD W. WHITE

September 8, 1936 – May 11, 2013 

IVA, SC - Edward William White, age 77, of Iva, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Exalted Health and Rehab in Iva, SC.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Herbert Talmadge White and Florence Eleanor Corbet White.  He served in the United States Army in his earlier years and was active in caring for the elderly.  He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his wife, Mary A. Helms White, of the home, he is also survived by his sister, Armeda Badgley, of Columbus, Ohio; 3 sons, Edward “Eddie” White, Jr., of  Columbus, Ohio; David Guin and his wife, Peggy, of Pelzer, SC; and Billy Guin and his wife, Tracy, of Williamston, SC; 4 daughters,  Margo White, of Columbus, Ohio; Flo White Beeson and her husband, Larry, of Peebles, Ohio; Betty Guin Holliday and her husband, Dwayne, of Williamston, SC; Cindy Guin Harris and her husband, Charlie, of Anderson, SC; and Becky Guin Ross and her husband, Tony, of Center Pointe, AL; 17 grandsons, 9 granddaughters, and 23 great grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 3:30 PM in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Dwight Greene officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, May 13, 2013, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

DAVID “DAVE” MURDOCK

November 05, 1929 – May 12, 2013

BELTON - David Lee Murdock, age 83, husband of Margene Cole Murdock, of Belton, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Charlie Bruce Murdock and Eva Elrod Murdock. After graduating from Honea Path High School, he attended Anderson College, and graduated from Erskine College in 1959.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy.  Dave retired from BASF where he worked as a payroll accountant for over 20 years. He was passionate about flowers and enjoyed arranging flowers for neighbors and his church. He served on the Board of Trustees at Tri County Technical College from 1994-2000.  He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church where he served as treasurer for more than 30 years. He also was a deacon and Sunday school superintendent.

Dave is survived by his wife; daughter, Kerry Lynn Cordes and her husband, Tim, of Cocoa Beach, Florida; granddaughter, Meleah Thomas and her husband, Brent,and  their children Emma and Judson Thomas, of Belton; and grandson, Nicholas Cordes, of Cocoa Beach, Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Patrick Murdock; Godson, Kevin Wilson; and brother, Charles Ray Murdock. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday May13, 2013, at 4:00 PM, at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, with Pastor Ricky Rice officiating.  Honorary escort will be members of the Welcome Sunday School Class, Dale and Sula Dutton, and Joe and Heidi Trull.  The family will receive friends Monday from 2:30 until 3:30 prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
