DAVID “DAVE” MURDOCK

November 05, 1929 – May 12, 2013

BELTON - David Lee Murdock, age 83, husband of Margene Cole Murdock, of Belton, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Charlie Bruce Murdock and Eva Elrod Murdock. After graduating from Honea Path High School, he attended Anderson College, and graduated from Erskine College in 1959.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy.  Dave retired from BASF where he worked as a payroll accountant for over 20 years. He was passionate about flowers and enjoyed arranging flowers for neighbors and his church. He served on the Board of Trustees at Tri County Technical College from 1994-2000.  He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church where he served as treasurer for more than 30 years. He also was a deacon and Sunday school superintendent.

Dave is survived by his wife; daughter, Kerry Lynn Cordes and her husband, Tim, of Cocoa Beach, Florida; granddaughter, Meleah Thomas and her husband, Brent,and  their children Emma and Judson Thomas, of Belton; and grandson, Nicholas Cordes, of Cocoa Beach, Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Patrick Murdock; Godson, Kevin Wilson; and brother, Charles Ray Murdock. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday May13, 2013, at 4:00 PM, at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, with Pastor Ricky Rice officiating.  Honorary escort will be members of the Welcome Sunday School Class, Dale and Sula Dutton, and Joe and Heidi Trull.  The family will receive friends Monday from 2:30 until 3:30 prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Playground Fund, 2603 Due West Highway, Belton, SC   29627, or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC   29621
