RANCES H. ADAMS 

MAY 3, 1940 - MAY 11, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Frances Hughes Adams, age 73, wife of the late Tommy Sylvester Adams, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Franklin Hughes and the late Frances Tucker Hughes.  Mrs. Adams was retired from Singer/Ryobi after 24 years of service.  She was a faithful member of Orrville Baptist Church. 

She is survived by two sons, Mark “Andy” and Tommy “Frankie” Adams, both of Anderson; two brothers, Hurman Franklin Hughes and his wife , Betty  of Anderson, Charles E. Hughes and his wife, Peggy of Anderson; special nephew, Tim Hughes and his wife, Cindy of Anderson, and their daughter, Karah Grace; special sister-in-law, Elizabeth Stokes and her husband, Dave of Michigan; special “sister” Helen Martin of Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Orrville Baptist Church, with the Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will be at the home of Charles and Peggy Hughes, 227 Whiten Road, Anderson, SC, 29621 and will receive friends on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.

CONNIE C. ASH

ANDERSON - Connie Carroll Ash, 58 of Old Denver School Road, wife of John Ash, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013 at her residence. 

Born June 22, 1954 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Ansel and Joyce Harris Carroll. Connie was a homemaker and member of Asbury Baptist Church.  

Surviving are her husband, John Ash of the home; daughter, Melonie Ash of Anderson; 2 grandchildren, Wesley and Kaylie Harris and brother, Tim Carroll and his wife, Jane.

Funeral service will be held at 3pm Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary with Rev. DeLennon Stowe officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

The family is at the residence.

CONSTANCE COLLINS

March 31, 1952 – May 6, 2013 

Anderson, SC - Constance Loraine Collins, age 61, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013 at her residence.

Constance lived most of her life in Amarillo, TX, retiring from Owens Corning, then later moving to Anderson, SC.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charles C. Collins, of the home; a son, Ashley Poston, of Amarillo, TX; three daughters, Paige Wall, of Anderson, SC, Christy Stashi and Cindy Alcala, both of Amarillo, TX; and seven grandchildren.

The Memorial Service to honor her life will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 3:30 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends following the service.

ROBERT KNOX ALLEN, SR.

September 8, 1924 – May 5, 2013

Mr. Robert Knox Allen, Sr., age 88, of Richard M. Campbell Veteran’s Nursing Home, Anderson, SC, passed away at his residence on Sunday, May 5, 2013.  Born in Bristol, TN, he was the son of the late J Everett Allen and the late Helen Sitgreaves Allen.  For sixty-five years, he was the loving and devoted husband of the late Wilma Owen Allen until her death in 2009. 

Knox was a graduate of Tennessee High School in Bristol, TN, and attended East Tennessee State College in Johnson City, TN.  He was a sales consultant representing Oliver Farm Equipment and Federated Insurance Company.  He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Orange, VA.  Mr. Allen proudly served his country during WW II in the US Army Air Corps.   

Survivors include a son, Robert Knox Allen, Jr. “Jay”, and his wife, Jody Ann, of Orange, VA; 2 daughters, Cheryl Allen Atkinson and her husband, Vinnie, of Seneca, SC, and Candace “Candy” Allen Moore and her husband, Jody, of Summerton, SC; also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. 

The family will be at the home of Cheryl and Vinnie Atkinson, 260 Webb Heights Circle, Seneca, SC, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.  

A Graveside Service to celebrate the life of Robert Knox Allen, Sr. will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 2 PM, at the Glenwood Shelby Hills Cemetery, 839 Bluff City Highway, Bristol, TN, with Rev. Barbara Doyle officiating.

BERT DOTSON

ANDERSON- Bertha Louise "Bert" Phillips Dotson, 73, of 1115 Cobbs Glen Drive, died May 6, 2013 at her residence.

Born February 19, 1940 in Vidalia, GA she was the daughter of the late Olif and Udiene Hightower Phillips. Bert was a Hospice Chaplain and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband, Rev. Robert E. Dotson of the home and son, Robert E. "Bobby" Dotson, Jr. of Asheville, NC.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

JACK L. LEWIS

May 17, 1928 – May 4, 2013

Mr. Jack L. Lewis, age 84, of the Garden House, 201 Edgebrook Drive, formally of 106 Lullwater Parkway, died on May 4, 2013, at AnMed Health Medical Center.  Born on May 17, 1928, in Loris, South Carolina, Jack was a son of the late Olin and Viola Lewis, and was the devoted husband of the late Carol Vaught Lewis to whom he was married for 61 glorious years.   He attended Clemson University and was owner of Whitehall Garden Center in Anderson.  Mr. Lewis was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Anderson, SC.  

Survivors include four children:  Marilyn Terry and her husband, Newton, of Tampa, FL, Rachael Hentigan, and her husband, Michael,  of Fernandina Beach, FL, Olin Paul Lewis , and his wife, Sue, of Clemson, SC, and Jeffrey Lewis  and his wife, Debbie, of Honea Path, SC; and sisters:  Nanette M. Marlowe of Loris, SC, and Sarah Johnson of Fairfax, VA.  Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents and his wife, Carol, Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

A Funeral Service to Celebrate the life of Jack Lewis will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 11 AM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Batson officiating.  Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.

In lieu of floral contributions, the family asks that memorials be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of St. John’s United Methodist Church, 515 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, South Carolina 29624.

CATHERINE DAVIS

APRIL 19, 1919 – MAY 3, 2013

Catherine Nellie West Davis, age 94, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 3, 2013. 

Born in Orangeburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Otis West and Nellie Whitstone West. 

She was the widow of the late Frank L. Davis. Mrs. Davis was retired from Amco Manufacturing Company.  She was a Charter member of Breath of Life Ministries in Sunset Beach, NC.  Prior to this she was a long time member of  the Church of God faith for over sixty years, where she served as ladies auxiliary President and taught Youth Sunday School. 

She is survived by a son, Frank C. Davis and his wife, Frances of Wesley Chapel, FL; daughter, Jewel Dodgens and her husband, Richard of Carolina Shores, NC; sister, Jeanette Raymond and her husband, Ron of Eagle River, AK; sisters-in-law, Joyce West, Mary Davis, Rusha Douglas, and Carrie Lou West; grandchildren; Shannon Yokeum, Catherine Porterfield, Pamela Choiniere, Wanda Russ and Sabrina Williams; six great-grandchildren; Cody, Naomi, Anna , Katelin, Tyler and Celina; one great-great grandson, Cameron. 

In addition to parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers; MP, Percy, Thomas, Lecroy, Edwin, and Bernard West.

The Funeral Service will be on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Reverend Chris Sustar and Reverend Mayhew West officiating.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home of, Joyce West, 4102 Aloha Drive, Anderson, SC, and will receive friends on Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

KENNETH R. PRYOR

September 16, 1939 – May 2, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Kenneth Rodney Pryor, age 73, husband of Betty Jo Veal Pryor, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born in Anderson County, SC, he was the son of the late Harold Pryor and the late Ruth Wilson Pryor.  He was a graduate of Crescent High School and Erskine College. Following a short tenure of teaching public school, Ken pursued his passion by helping children and families with a lengthy career with the Anderson County Department of Social Services.  He was a faithful member of Boulevard Baptist Church.  He was a member of the Anderson County Jaycee’s, the Anderson Sertoma Club, and a volunteer with Hospice of the Upstate.  Ken was a friend to many, having never met a stranger. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Dawn Elizabeth Pryor and her boyfriend Jason Day, of Greenville, SC; a brother-in-law, Joe Wilson of Rock Branch, GA; a nephew, Robert Pryor Wilson of Lake Wales, FL; a niece, Jean Tate and her husband Jimmy and their children, Alexander, Matthew and Wilson of Atlanta, GA.  He is also survived by a special aunt, uncles and cousins. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shelby Jean Pryor Wilson. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Johnny McKinney and Reverend Dr. Paul Talmadge.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

NEAL LATHAM

July 25, 1938 – April 27, 2013

Richard Neal Latham, age 74, of 218 Timberlake Road, passed away at his residence on Saturday, April 27, 2013.  Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Lloyd Holmes Latham and the late Mable Lorene Burdett Latham.  For many years, he was the beloved husband of the late Mary Alice Lee Latham.

Mr. Latham was retired from Thomas and Howard Food Service Distributors where he was manager. Prior to that, he was manager of Resin and Coating Plant at Owens-Corning Fiberglass, Inc.  He was a graduate of Crescent High School.  

Survivors include a son, Rick Latham (Amy) of Anderson; a daughter, Janet Delaine of Anderson; 2 sisters, Barbara Metcalfe and Betty Jo Bare (Goodman) both of Anderson.  Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Chad, Jason, Jeremy and Dakota Latham.  Neal was preceded in death by parents, spouse, and a daughter, Jeanine Elaine Latham, and 2 brothers, William Robert Latham and Louie “Pete” Latham.   

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Neal Latham will be held Friday, May 3, 2013, at 3:30 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Dwight Greene officiating.  The family will be at their respective residences and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM.

JOHN E. MOORE

March 21, 1941 – April 30, 2013

Johnie Earl Moore, age 72, of 200 Beverly Lane, died at his residence surrounded by the love of his family, on Tuesday, April 30, 2013.  Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Robert L. Moore and the late Winnie Lou Shipman Moore.  For 54 years he was the loving husband of Carolyn Spence Moore of the home.  

Mr. Moore was retired from a career with the US Navy where he reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer.  Following military service, he had a career spanning 20 years with Bi-Lo as a refrigeration maintenance technician, then 3 years with Rogers Refrigeration.  He earned an associate degree from Tri County Tech, and was a member of Clouds of Thunder Motorcycle Ministry. 

In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by a son, John E. Moore, Jr. and his wife, Emily, of Williamston; 2 daughters, Debbie Moore of Williamston, and Susie Simmons and her husband, Randy, of Anderson; 1 brother, Gene Moore of Spartanburg; 2 sisters, Hazel Wilson of Spartanburg, and Reba Cookson of Inman; also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Michael Anthony Moore, a great grandson, Eli Johnson, a brother, Robert Moore, and a sister, Rachael Cook.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of John E. Moore will be held Friday, May 3, 2013, at 2 PM, at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Johnny Vickery and Chaplain Richard Taylor officiating.  The family will visit with friends following the service.

KENNETH G. GENDRON

February 24, 1940 – April 29, 2013

Kenneth Gaston Gendron, age 73, of 210 Northlake Drive, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013, at the AnMed Health Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.  Born in Tarrytown, NY, he was the son of the late Gerard Gendron and the Late Terese Cyr Gendron.  For 50 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Virginia Consorte Gendron of the residence.  Kenneth and Virginia also reside part time in Elberton, GA. 

Mr. Gendron proudly served his nation in the US Air Force.  He was the retired owner of a Service Station and Repair business in Hawthorne, NY.   The hobby which provided him with much pleasure was mechanics, cars, hot rods and motorcycles.  He enjoyed and loved people, and never met a stranger.  Kenneth was a member of Senior Solutions in Anderson, and was a fireman with the Volunteer Fire Department in Ossining, NY.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by a son, Kenneth A. Gendron of Daytona Beach, FL; a daughter, Kim Elizabeth Bubolo and her husband, Michael, of Cortlandt Manor, NY; 3 brothers, Gerard Anthony Gendron and wife, Sharon, of Ossining, NY, Robert Gendron  of Scarborough, NY, and Richard Gendron of Ossining, NY; 5 grandchildren, Nicole Lynn Gendron, Michael Vincent Bubolo, Kenneth M. Gendron, Connor Luc Bubolo, and Ashley Noelle Bubolo.  In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Gendron.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Kenneth Gendron will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2012, at 3 PM, at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Father Ignatius Smith, OFM,  officiating.  The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 PM until 2:30 PM.

VERA MAE HAYES ASHLEY

October 30, 1923 – April 29, 2013

IVA, SC - Vera Mae Hayes Ashley, age 89, of Iva, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Donnie Gus Hayes and the late Annie Mae Elgin Hayes.  She retired from Jackson Mill.  She was an avid gardener.  She was a faithful member of Iva Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. 

She is survived by her sisters, Idelia Dockins and Louise Brooks; a grandson, Max Lamar Ashley, Jr.and his wife Chaztidy; three great grandchildren, Randy Ashley and his wife Molly, Ryan Ashley and his wife Keri and Jade Ashley; and a great-great grandson, Axl Ashley. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Max Edward Ashley; son, Max Lamar Ashley; infant daughter, Joyce Maxine Ashley; brothers, Haskell, R.C., Donnie, Edward, Freddy, Herman, and Raymond Hayes; sisters, Nellie Giles and Rachel Dickson; and a granddaughter, Malinda Maxine Ashley.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at Iva Pentecostal Holiness Church in Iva on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.  The funeral service will follow at the church at 3:00 PM with Reverend Billy Pinson and Dr. Martin Wiles officiating.  Interment will follow at Iva City Cemetery.

Flowers are optional, or memorials may be made to Iva Pentecostal Church, 201 Antreville Highway, Iva, SC 29655.
