William A. McClain

Anderson, SC - William Albert McClain, 87, husband of the late Helen Williams McClain, went to be with his Heavenly Father on November 24, 2014.

Born August 18, 1927 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Calvin Earle and Oria Bolt McClain. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. McClain was a farmer and owner and operator of McClain and Sons Builders. He and his wife, Helen enjoyed traveling with church groups doing mission construction. He was a member of the Home Builders Association. He was a lifelong member of New Prospect Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and was a member of the John McLees Sunday School Class 

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Hall of Lincolnton, NC and Peggy Crawford (John) of Pendleton; two sons, Al McClain (Karen) and Ricky McClain (Janet), of Anderson; six grandchildren, Brian Hall (Lynette) of Bessemer City, NC, Chris McClain, Jason McClain (Jill), Whitney Henderson (BJ), Clay McClain and Justin McClain, all of Anderson; five great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Kaymin and Krayton Henderson of Anderson, Tori and Peyton Hall of Bessemer City, NC; three sisters, Deree Dickerson of Anderson, Selwyn Tingen of Piedmont and Oria Balchin of Graham, NC; a sister-in-law, Betty Cathey of Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, George, Calvin, David, Robert and Bevan McClain; and three sisters, Dorothy Ruth Busby, Kathryn Sorrow and Olga Sain. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at New Prospect Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Tony Smith and Rev. Tom Turner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:15 p.m. Friday at the church. The family is at the residence.

William Wayne Wells

Abbeville, SC - William Wayne Wells, 63, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born May 6, 1951 in Anderson, he was the son of Mary Frances Kay Wells and the late William Thomas "Pete" Wells. He was a graduate of Anderson College and Erskine College. He was an area manager for Carolina Beer Company. Mr. Wells was a Mason, Shriner and member of the Elks Lodge. 

Survivors include his son, Russell Wells and wife, Sunny of Anderson; granddaughter, Dayton Wells; mother, Mary Frances Wells of Anderson; brother, Martin Wells and wife, Phyllis of Anderson; sister, Kay Hill and husband, Wayne of Tallahassee, FL; sister-in-law, Kathy Wells of Monroe, LA; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Wells.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at New Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by Rev. J. Floyd Stansell. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. the family is at the home of Martin and Phyllis Wells, 3103 South McDuffie Street Extension, Anderson.

John W. McClure

Anderson, SC - John William McClure, 63, husband of Karen O. McClure, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at his residence.

Born January 18, 1951 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Cecil Randolph Mcclure, Sr. and Mary "Peggy" Thrasher McClure.  He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and was Human Resource Manager at World Acceptance Corporation in Greenville. An avid golfer and fisherman, he was a member of Boscobel Golf Club and Bassmasters. Mr. McClure attended Midway Presbyterian Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Karen of the home; three daughters, Susan M. McClure of Greenville, Katie McClure Brown and husband, David of Anderson, and Emily Gayle McClure and husband, Matthew Gratz of New York; one son, John Nathanial McClure of Scranton, PA; two grandchildren, Thomas Brown and Mycah McClure; and one brother, Richard P. McClure and wife, Ana of Key Largo, FL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Randolph "Randy" McClure, Jr. 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Mary V. Teasley. Burial will follow in Townville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. The family is at the residence.

Dorothy Downie Anderson

Anderson, SC  - Dorothy Downie Anderson, age 85, devoted wife of Judge G. Ross Anderson, Jr.,for 64 years, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at her residence.

Born in Cape May, NJ, on September 10, 1929 she was the daughter of the late John Downie and the late Myrtle Margaret Hurst Downie.  Mrs. Anderson was previously employed by South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles until her marriage to Judge G. Ross Anderson, Jr.  in 1951.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson where she formerly taught the children’s choir.   

She is survived by her husband, Judge G. Ross Anderson, Jr.; son, G. Ross Anderson, III of Anderson, SC.; sisters, Ruth Truland of NC,  Gwen Steedle of NJ and Margaret Sinard of TX; grandson, Nicholas Anderson a senior at Clemson University. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 12:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with the Reverend Dr. James Thomason officiating.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm.

Fred H. Garrett

Anderson, SC - Fred Haskell Garrett, 80, died Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born February 28, 1934 in Norris, he was the son of the late Robert V. and Pearl Garrett. Mr. Garrett was retired from Ryobi and was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ann D. Garrett of the home; two daughters, Lisa Garrett Anderson and husband, Tab of Pendleton and Amy Garrett Williams and husband, Chris of Anderson; five grandchildren, Ashla Wren Anderson, Bry Hunter Anderson, Kayla Christen Gabbard, Chase Tyler Gabbard  and Christopher Garrett Williams; and two sisters, June Hunter and Melva Perry of Norris.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at New Prospect Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Tony Smith and Rev. Tom Turner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Monday at the church. The family is at the residence.

Inez Brown Hooper

Anderson, SC - Inez Brown Hooper, 92, of Lindale Road, widow of Jep Romney Hooper, died Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born June 11, 1922 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar J. and Ella Adams Brown. She was retired from Tingue,Brown & Company in Atlanta. Mrs. Hooper was a dedicated supporter of the Shriners  Children's Hospital and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church. 

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Don Cox, her Deacon, Greg Gambrell and Rev. Ray Ridgeway. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

Emmaline Griffith Porter

Williamston, SC - Anna Emmaline Griffith Porter, 93, of Highway 81 North, widow of Clarence "Jim" Porter, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014.

Born September 27, 1921 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Henry Anderson and Lillie Mae Gaillard Griffith. Mrs. Porter graduated from Anderson Girls High School, Erskine College, and Anderson College.  She was a retired school teacher, teaching at Calhoun and Concord Elementary Schools over a span of 38 years. Mrs. Porter continued to educate children even after retirement, receiving the United Way Service to the Child Award, as well as, the Palmetto Serves Volunteer Award.  She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church for 65 years.  Mrs. Porter enjoyed traveling the world with Good News Travels, ballroom dancing, clogging, and square dancing. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.   

Survivors include her grandchildren, Elizabeth Starkweather and husband, Tommy of Naples, Florida, Mark Ridgeway, Jr. of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, and Susan Nunamaker and husband, Troy of Seneca; brother, William Griffith of Florence; son-in-law, Mark Ridgeway, Sr. of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Emily Ridgeway; brother, H.A. Griffith; and sisters, Margaret Hunter and Grace Stegall.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chad Campbell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Larry T. McLees

Anderson, SC - Larry Thomas McLees, 77, husband of Dianne Parker McLees, died Friday, October 31, 2014 at his residence. 

Born October 15, 1937 in Anderson, he was the son of the late James F. and Cora Kellett McLees. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a retired electrician with BASF. He performed in the Senior Follies for a number of years and enjoyed flying his airplane as long as his health permitted. Mr. McLees was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and the Desire Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne McLees of the home; one daughter, Darlene McLees of Cornelius, NC; brother, William F. McLees and wife, Judy of Blairsville, Georgia; sister, Sara M. Barnette of Seneca; three nephews and two nieces. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Prospect Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Tony Smith and Rev. Tom Turner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. Hazel Louise Moore

Anderson, SC - Hazel Louise Moore, of Anderson, died Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Landy J. and Rossie Palmer Moore. She was retired from the former First Federal Saving & Loan Association of Anderson and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include her niece, Karen Moore Garren and husband, Ronald; two great nieces, Kimberly and Katie Garren, all of Winder, Georgia. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John William Moore and his wife, Lucy Nunnally Moore.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Dr. Shawn Armstrong. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

Larry Greene

Townville, SC - Robert Larry Greene, Sr., 68, died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Richard and Dorothy King Greene.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Donald of Townville and Brittany Greene of Port Orange, Florida; seven grandchildren, Zach Greene, Hunner Greene, Laycie Greene, Brandon Donald, Erin Donald, Amber McKerley and Sky Driscoll; two great grandchildren, Zackery McKerley and Remington Oubre; two brothers, Gamuel Greene and Sammy Greene; and a sister, Mary Bramlett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, James H. Greene and Robert L. “Bobby” Greene, Jr.

Patience Rebecca Robinson

ANDERSON, SC - Patience Rebecca Robinson, age 44, wife of Charles “Mitch” Robinson, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at her residence.

Born in Mercer, WV, on February 10, 1970, she was the daughter of Basil Keith Phillips and Mary Thomas Patrick. She was a graduate of Pocahontas High School in Pocahontas, VA. Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker and a step-daughter to Thomas Patrick.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by a son, Joshua Charles Robinson (Melodie) of Chattanooga, TN; brother, Kevin Keith Phillips and his daughter, Sydney of Bluefield, VA.

Gary Drayton Durham

Pendleton , SC - Gary Drayton Durham, age 61, husband of Karen Durham, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC, on January 24, 1953, he was the son of Hazel Johnson, and the late Drayton Durham. 

He is survived by his wife, Karen Durham; daughters, Kari Slaton(Erik) of Anderson, SC, Kendal Manning(Justin) of Sevierville, TN and Kinsley Durham of Pendleton, SC; sister, Peggy Porter of Pendleton, SC; one grandson, Tyler Kason Slaton.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, W.K. and Betty McAlister.   “Deddy,” Son, Husband, Brother,  Uncle, and known as “Popee G” by his grandson, Tyler who was his best buddy, along with his dog Beau, Gary Durham  will forever be remembered as a man who stood strong in his faith and was his family’s biggest fan.  He will truly be cherished and loved by all who crossed his path as he crosses his final finish line into his Heavenly Home.  He was a member of Fant’s Grove Baptist Church. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 2:30 pm at Fant’s Grove Baptist Church, interment will follow in Memory Gardens of Clemson.

The family will be at 1005 Central Road, Pendleton, SC, home of his mother and will receive friends at the church from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service on Monday.
