JEAN F. MOORHEAD

NOVEMBER 29, 1929 - JANUARY 26, 1911

ANDERSON, SC – Jean Floyd Moorhead, age 81, wife of the late Larry P. Moorhead, Sr., passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born November 29, 1929, in Savannah, GA, she was a daughter of the late Gladys Shepherd Taylor and Homer Taylor  Mrs. Moorhead was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her daughter, Pam Moorhead Ritter of Anderson, SC; sons: Rick Moorhead, Andy Moorhead, and John Moorhead, all of Greenwood, SC; five grandchildren, Valerie Ritter, Jay Ritter, Sheridan Reid, Patrick Moorhead and Ferol Moorhead and two great grandchildren, Bryce Ritter and Sophia Moorhead.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, January 30, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Dan Batson.  A family committal service will follow in Old Silver Brook Cemetery

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 2pm until 3pm on Sunday, prior to the service and at the home of Pam and Bill Ritter, 108 Grove Park Drive, Anderson, SC from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

It is suggested that memorials be made to the Faith Home of Greenwood, 114 Faith Home Road, Greenwood, SC 29649.

JOHN D. STOVER

MAY 30, 1941 – JANUARY 27, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – John David Stover, age 69, resident of 104 Sundowner Boulevard, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2011, at his home.

Born May 30, 1941, in Warrior, AL, he was a son of the late Joe Stover & Lizzie Reid Stover.  Mr. Stover was a graduate of Warrior High School and was formerly employed by the Fluor Corporation.  He was an avid outdoorsman & sportsman who particularly enjoyed music, football, & playing cards.

Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Eunice Odell Brasher Stover, of the home; and children: Lynn Yeager & wife, Cindy of Prattville, AL, Theresa Childers & husband, Lloyd ‘Bo’, Phyliss Young & husband, Bobby, Lisa Young & husband, Tim, and Angie Young & husband, Ray, all of Anderson, SC; son-in-law, Jody Little of Anderson, SC; thirteen grandchildren: Amy, Timmy, & Keith Yeager, Joey & Mitch Camper, Shaun & Heather Childers, Paige Wall, Chase Young, Matthew & Michael Young, and Jennifer & Brittney Little; twelve great grandchildren; and three sisters: Faye Dingler of Warrior, AL, Bobbie Otten of Huntsville, AL, and Judy Cooper of Birmingham, AL.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers: Joseph Stover, Curtis Stover, & Billy Ray Stover; and two sisters: Carolyn Wooten & Patsy Slaton.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Monday, January 31, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by Chaplain Donald Owens.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Monday, January 31, 2011.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

ANN ERWIN

BELTON - Patricia Ann Erwin, 60, of 212 Sherwood Drive, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born March 26, 1950 in Oconee, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Ann Hart Loftis. She was a Daycare employee and member of River Heights Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are her son, Jim Erwin (Cheryl) of Belton; daughter, Renea Stroud (Chad) of Williamston; 7 grandchildren, Derrick, Jamie, Tricia, Lindsay, Jessica, Devin and Dakota;  great grandchildren, Coby, Whitley and Connor who is on the way;  sister, Judy Mitchell (Bob) of Belton and brother, Archie Loftis (Rachel) of Anderson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Loftis Kelly.

Graveside service will be held at 2pm Friday at New Silver Brook Cemetery with Revs. Ansel Boggs and Matthew Loftis officiating. The body is at the home of her sister, Judy Mitchell,  231 Sherwood Drive, where the family will receive friends.

Marie Stowe

March 26, 1917 – January 26, 2011

ABBEVILLE, SC - Marie Elizabeth Wilson Armstrong Stowe, age 93, formerly of Greenville, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at the Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late Joseph B. Wilson and Elizabeth Morgan Wilson.  Mrs. Stowe was formerly employed with Greenville Memorial Hospital as an admissions clerk.  She was, also, a former music teacher and had been the pianist for several area churches and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a son, Charles Lee “Chuck” Stowe and his wife, Missy of Anderson; a daughter, Jean Stowe Barnett and her husband, Henry of Antreville; three grandchildren, Tony Barnett and his wife, Angie, Lee Barnett, Chris Stowe and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Anthony Barnett.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, J. R. “Jake” Stowe; daughters, Ina Joyce Stowe and Ruth Ann Stowe; grandson, Drew Stowe and a sister, Frances Reynolds.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, January 28, 2011, at 11:30 AM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, SC, with Reverend Jerry Gray officiating.  The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

The family will be at their respective homes.

THELMA H. WITT

ANDERSON – Thelma Hensley Witt, 87, of 2418 Marchbanks Avenue Apt. 29-C, widow of Claude Alvin Witt, died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born June 16, 1923 in Logan, WV, she was the daughter of the late Pete and Eva Conley Hensley. She was a homemaker and charter member of the Electric City Classic Car Club, Eclectic Red Hat Society of Anderson, Rebekah’s Ladies Auxiliary of IOOF and Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Witt was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson.

Surviving are her daughter, Pat Fouts (George); son, Tommy Witt (Susan) all of Anderson; 3 grandchildren, Shannon Fouts, Casey Fouts (Kristen) and Paul Witt; great granddaughter, Peyton Marie Fouts, and sister, Goldie Cummings of Lakeland, FL. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Inez Tomblin, Ruby Hensley, Corba Pittman, and two brothers, Eldred Hensley and Herbert Hensley.

Graveside service will be held at 1pm Thursday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Tony Tilley officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

The family is at the home of the daughter, 2425 Old Williamston Road.

ERIC MONROE PORTER

JUNE 17, 1954 – JANUARY 22, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Eric Monroe Porter, age 56, of Hickory, NC, died on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Born June 17, 1954, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of Lemuel Herbert Porter and the late Sarah Martin “Peg” Porter.

Eric graduated from Pendleton High School in 1972 and was Senior Class President. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Cum Laude, from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, in 1980. He continued his education at Midlands Technical College in Columbia, receiving an Associate Degree in Data Processing in 1982 with a 4.0 GPA. For the past decade, Eric had been a successful professional recruiter of independent computer consultants.

Survivors include his father; brother, Mark Covington Porter of Hickory; uncle, Dr. John B. Martin Jr. of Liberty; aunts, Rebecca Browder and Judy Martin, both of Liberty, Doris Wright of Columbia, and Eleanor Ross of Anderson; cousins, Jay Browder and wife Kimberly of Pendleton, Don Ross, Henry Martin and wife Kristi, all of Liberty, Jack “Louie” Ross III and wife Pam, Johnny Ross and wife Judy, all of Anderson, Jim Ross of Pendleton, Charlotte Powell of Charlotte, NC, Jeff Browder and wife Barbara of Seminole, FL, and Emeline “Emmie” Ross and husband Foti Maggalousis of Greece; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Porter Ziesler. 

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2011, at The McDougald Funeral Home, 2211 North Main Street, Anderson, SC 29621. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011, at the Martin family cemetery, located across the street from 205 Martin Sausage Road in Liberty. Mr. Porter’s dear friend, Pastor Steven Martin Pearson, of Kentucky, formerly of Pendleton, will be officiating.

EDITH HOLDEN

ANDERSON - Edith Pauline Holden, formerly of Walhalla, passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

She was the daughter of late Rev. Elisha A. Holden and late Gertrude M. Robinson. She retired from Kendall Company in Seneca in 1988. Mrs. Holden had been a former member of Coneross Baptist Church in Westminster and was currently a member of Bridge of Hope Community Church in Anderson.

Surviving are her daughter, Glenda Fay Alexander of Anderson; sister, Dell Holden of Crystal River, FL and brother, Joe Holden of Walhalla; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Lee Alexander;  brothers, Ray, Raymond, Frank Holden and sister, Mae H. Marcengill.

Funeral service will be held 3:30pm Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Pastor William French. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:30pm prior to the service at the Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

LOUISA RICE LUND

FEBRUARY 4, 1950 – JANUARY 24, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Louisa “Wesa” McGee Rice Lund, age 60, of 2304 East North Avenue, died on Sunday, January 24, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.  She was the daughter of Earle McGee Rice and the late Mary Louise Anderson Rice, and the granddaughter of the late Leon Leftwich and Sara Wilhite Rice, and the late Dr. Jesse T. and Hazel Prickett Anderson.

A seventh-generation Andersonian, she attended Queens College (now University) in Charlotte, North Carolina, and graduated with honor from Clemson University, and the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she was Managing Editor of The Journal of Law & Education.  She joined her father in the practice of law in 1981 in the same firm established by her grandfather, Leon L. Rice, in 1907, and joined by her father in 1947. 

She was a member of the Anderson County Bar Association and the South Carolina Bar Association, and a charter member of the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association. She was also a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her beloved son, Rice Jensen “Jens” Lund, of the home; her father and stepmother, Mr. & Mrs. Earle M. Rice, of Anderson; sister, Mary Earle Haynes, of Atlanta, Georgia, and brother, Jesse Anderson “Andy” Rice, of Roswell, Georgia; step brothers, Zach Watson Rice, of New York, New York, and Charles Jackson Rice, of Central, South Carolina, and half-sister, Elizabeth Rice English, of Kennesaw, Georgia.

The family will receive friends in the Parlor of Grace Episcopal Church from 11am until 12 noon on Saturday, January 29, 2011.  The Funeral Service will follow at 12noon at Grace Episcopal Church and will be conducted by The Reverend John B. Hardaway, IV, and The Reverend Thomas C. Davis.  

The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and that memorials be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621, or to the Capital Campaign Fund of Grace Episcopal Church, 711 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624.

LENA V. LOSKOSKI

ANDERSON - Lena Vandiver Loskoski, 95, formerly of Anderson, widow of Wilbur G. Loskoski, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011 at Coastal Manor Nursing Home, Ludowici, GA.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Thomas M. and Mary Brown Vandiver. She was educated in Anderson, SC schools and was retired from Gallant-Belk. She was an avid quilter and was President of the Tuesday Morning Quilt Group which met at the Library. Mrs. Loskoski was a member of Roberts Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and Elder.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother and is survived by her daughter, Rosalyn Rozakos and son-in-law, Pete, son, Rev. Greg Loskoski and wife, Ellen, and son, Paul Loskoski and wife, Sandy; grandchildren, Sarah, Van, and Rebecca Loskoski, and Luke Christian; and three sisters, Jean Belding, Hilda McCurley, and Frances Vandiver.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday in the church fellowship hall.

ANDERSON, SC - Taylar Megan Burrage, 16, of 2418 Marchbanks Avenue, died Sunday, January 23, 2011.

Born February 16, 1994, she was the daughter of Todd Burrage and Michelle P. McBride. She was a T L Hanna High School student and worked at Main St. Deli in Downtown, Anderson. She loved life, animals and her many friends. She attended Freedom Center Assembly of God and New Spring Church.

Surviving are her mother and step-father, Michelle and Russell McBride of the home; father, Todd Burrage of Durham; brother, Hunter Burrage; maternal grandparents, Ronnie and Linda Pridgen of Durham; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Marilyn Burrage of Myrtle Beach; step-grandmother, Debra Durham of Anderson; maternal great grandmother, Mary Rogers; paternal great grandparents, Frances and Monroe Burrage; 2 uncles, Mike and Mark Pridgen and 2 aunts, Kelly Young and Jennifer Burrage all of Durham.

Taylar was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Kay Burrage; maternal great grandparents, Juanita and Sam Pridgen and maternal great grandfather, Buddy Rogers.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 3pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Rev. Phillip Sears officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. ANDERSON - George Clinton Phillips, 64, of 900 Shirley Store Road, died Sunday, January 16, 2011.

Born June 7, 1946 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Ray and Janie Rowland Phillips. He was a mechanic with Anderson Armor Car.

Surviving are his wife, Judith "Judy" Strickland Phillips of the home; 6 sons, Ray, Heath, Fred, Frank, Jimmy and Brandon Phillips; 2 daughters, Sharon James and Lynn Dalton; 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, John, Harold and David Phillips and 3 sisters, Faye Edwards, Kathy Jones and Jo Bryant. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Phillips.

Funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Revs. Alex Henderson and Ted Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. DOROTHY M. "DOT' EARLE

ANDERSON - Dorothy Morton Earle, 86, of 1708 Gerrard Road, wife of Frank H. "Harry" Earle, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born May 9, 1924 in Oconee, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Ollie Maret Morton. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are her husband, Frank H. Earle of the home; 2 sons, Giles H. Earle and his wife, Brenda of Starr and Richard L. Earle and his wife, Dianne of Anderson; 6 grandchildren, Garrett Earle, Tonya Stevenson and her husband,  Todd, Richie Earle and his wife, Ariel , Eric Earle, Sarah McCormick and her husband, Bryan and Ryan Shahan; 5 great grandchildren, Trent Stevenson, Tate and Raleigh Earle, Kamryn McCormick and Anthony Shahan and 3 sisters, twin sister, Doris Bryant, Evelyn Brown and Betty Powell all of Anderson. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Lewis, Crayton and David Morton and 2 sisters, Virginia Evans and Hilda Bramlett.

Funeral service will be held at 3pm Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Rev. Roger Estridge officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3pm prior to the service at the Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at the residence.
