ANDERSON, SC - Eric Monroe Porter, age 56, of Hickory, NC, died on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Born June 17, 1954, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of Lemuel Herbert Porter and the late Sarah Martin “Peg” Porter.

Eric graduated from Pendleton High School in 1972 and was Senior Class President. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Cum Laude, from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, in 1980. He continued his education at Midlands Technical College in Columbia, receiving an Associate Degree in Data Processing in 1982 with a 4.0 GPA. For the past decade, Eric had been a successful professional recruiter of independent computer consultants.

Survivors include his father; brother, Mark Covington Porter of Hickory; uncle, Dr. John B. Martin Jr. of Liberty; aunts, Rebecca Browder and Judy Martin, both of Liberty, Doris Wright of Columbia, and Eleanor Ross of Anderson; cousins, Jay Browder and wife Kimberly of Pendleton, Don Ross, Henry Martin and wife Kristi, all of Liberty, Jack “Louie” Ross III and wife Pam, Johnny Ross and wife Judy, all of Anderson, Jim Ross of Pendleton, Charlotte Powell of Charlotte, NC, Jeff Browder and wife Barbara of Seminole, FL, and Emeline “Emmie” Ross and husband Foti Maggalousis of Greece; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Porter Ziesler. 

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2011, at The McDougald Funeral Home, 2211 North Main Street, Anderson, SC 29621. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011, at the Martin family cemetery, located across the street from 205 Martin Sausage Road in Liberty. Mr. Porter’s dear friend, Pastor Steven Martin Pearson, of Kentucky, formerly of Pendleton, will be officiating.
