RONALD HART

APRIL 7, 1952 – February 11, 2011           

PENDLETON, SC - Ronald “Papa Ron” Tommy Hart, age 58, husband of Deborah Carol Shiflet Hart of 133 Rescue Road, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011 at his residence.

Born in Pendleton, SC on April 7, 1952, Ronald was the son of Olin Ray Hart of Pendleton and the late Viola Durham Hart.  He was a 1970 graduate of Pendleton High School.  He was a paramedic for thirty years, an EMT for forty years and worked with Med Shore Ambulance Service for fifteen years.  He served with the Pendleton Rescue Squad for twenty-seven years, the Greenville County EMS, Iva Rescue Squad and he was also a Rescue Diver.  He was a member of the Pendleton Gun and Dog Club and Faith Fellowship Church in Pendleton.

In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by his children, Tracy Hix of Pendleton, Tony Nicometo and his wife, Lora of Anderson, Gregory Lee Hart and his wife, Susan of Pendleton, Eric Nicometo and his wife, Angie of Cochran, GA and Angela Nicometo of Pendleton; brothers, Danny Ray Hart and his wife, Cynthia and Jerry Dale Hart and his wife, Vickie of Pendleton; sister, Joyce Adams and her husband, Bruce of Pendleton; six grandchildren, Bryanna Hix, and Ethan Swanger, Annslee Hart and Dillon Hart, Garret Nicometo, Gage Worley.  He is also survived by his EMS Family.

He was predeceased by a brother, Roger “Puddin” Hart.

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Faith Fellowship Church officiated by the Reverends Harry Warren, Joey Mitchell and Bill Wires.  Interment will follow in Memory Gardens with full EMS Honors.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, February 12, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  Mr. Hart will be placed in the church at 2:00 pm on Sunday.

Flowers are optional.  Memorials may be made to AnMed Cancer Center/Infusion Center, AnMed Health Foundation, 100 Foundation Drive, Anderson, SC 29621.

MILDRED L. DICKERSON

September 13, 1923 – February 10, 2011      

ANDERSON, SC - Mildred Louise Smith Dickerson, age  87, formerly of 3501 Keys Street and wife of the late Clarence Dickerson, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Ellenburg Nursing Center.

Born in Gallant, AL on September 13, 1923, Mrs. Dickerson was a daughter of the late Charles David Smith and Ella Beason Smith.  She retired from Appleton Mills with 48 years of service and was a member of Wellington Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include her sons:, Glen William Dickerson and his wife, Pat, and David Dickerson, all of Anderson, SC; brother Eulice Smith of Power Springs, GA; sister, Christine Payne and her husband, Henry of Stelle, AL; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by five brothers and one sister.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 2:00 pm  at New Silver Brook Cemetery officiated by the Reverend Sam Duncan and Dr. Frank Whitfield.

The family will be at their respective homes.

MARY MITCHELL

ANDERSON - Mary Elizabeth Wyatt Mitchell, 90, of 119 Bradley Park, widow of Clyde W. Mitchell, died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born November 18, 1920 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Robert Monroe and Lillie Mae Rampey Wyatt. Mary joined the  U. S. Army Nursing Corps during WWII and then graduated from the University of Oklahoma. She worked and retired from the Oklahoma City School District as their school nurse. In 1997 she moved to Anderson where she was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

Surviving are her brother, Frank Wyatt of Anderson; 3 sisters, Edna Wyatt of Fountain Inn; Caroline Rampey of Warner Robins, GA and Vivian Hyler of Kernersville, NC and 11 nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Robert Mitchell and 3 brothers, Robert P., William and Charles Wyatt.

Funeral service will be held at 3pm Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Dr. Don Cox and Rev. Gene Burdette officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 until 7pm at the Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. Burial will be at a later date in Weleeka, OK.

The family is at the residence, 119 Bradley Park.

George Williams Rogers

ANDERSON - George William Rogers, 88, of San Diego, CA., formerly of Anderson, departed this life on February 2, 2011.

Born on December 27, 1922 in Grapevine, TX, he was the son of the late Carmel and Ionia Rogers. He was retired from Riegel Mills and was a former member of Grace Episcopal Church, Anderson, SC. He served proudly in the U. S. Marines from 1941-1947. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Richardson Rogers, his second wife, Catherine Baker Rogers, a daughter, Georgiana R. Wilson, and brother, Carmel Rogers, Jr. Surviving is a brother, James Homer Rogers, and nephews, Mathias Richardson, Brad, Ron and Tim and nieces, Marcia, Deb, Karen, and Bev. His surviving stepchildren are Cathy Siegman, Larry Baker, John Baker, and Suzanne Sligh.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Grace Episcopal Church conducted by Rev. Jack Hardaway. Burial will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Pendleton. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

DONALD RAY MOODY

December 15, 1945 – February 9, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Donald Ray Moody, age 65 of Brookside Living Center passed away February 9, 2011.

Born in Travelers Rest, SC, Donnie was a son of the late Hext P. Moody and Agnes Clara Pike Moody.  He was predeceased by his two brothers, John Rainey Moody and Fred Raymond Moody; and his step-mother Edna Lipscomb Moody.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Rose Rampey Moody and his niece, Dr. Robin Lyn Moody, both of Anderson, SC.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, February 12, 2011 from 10:00am until 10:45am followed by the Funeral Service beginning at 11:00am in the Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Victor Rampey officiating.  Interment will follow at Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery, Greenville, SC.

Evelyn Hanna Gosnell

July 21, 1926 – February 8, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Evelyn Hanna Gosnell, age 84, wife of the late Charles W. Gosnell, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Morningside Assisted Living.

Born in Anderson, SC on July 21, 1926, Mrs. Gosnell was a daughter of the late Herman Hanna and Ruby LaFoy Hanna.  She was a 1943 graduate of Girls’ High School and retired from LaFrance Industries with 30 years of service.  She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star #130 and was a Past Worthy Matron.  She was also a member of Concord Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Charles Ray Gosnell and his wife, Mary; brother, Don Hanna; sisters, Ellen Cheek, Billie Sullivan and Gladys Dunn, all of Anderson; one grandson, Bryan Gosnell and his wife, Cindi; three great-grandchildren, Garrett M. Gosnell, Rebecca L. Gosnell and Andrew B. Gosnell; three step-grandchildren, Steven Partridge, Paul Partridge and Terri Smith; nine step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Carl and Alex Hanna and sisters, Helen Pickens and Miriam Whitlock.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend. Dr. Don Cox.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of her son, 105 Red Oak Drive, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

REV. CRATE MURPHY

ANDERSON - Rev. William Crate Murphy, 93, of Dobbins Bridge Road, widower of Bertha Hatcher Murphy, died Monday, February 7, 2011 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born June 30, 1917 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Charlie and Gracie Hiott Murphy. Early in his career, he worked as a farmer and was a carpenter with Mr. John Linley and Home Realty Construction Company. Rev. Murphy was a Baptist Minister, serving as Pastor at New Prospect Baptist Church Mission Church, Rock Creek Baptist Church, Toccoa, GA, Wolf Stake Baptist Church, Seneca, SC, Corinth #2 Baptist Church, Westminster, SC, Pendleton Second Baptist Church (now Faith Fellowship), Pendleton, SC, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Turnerville, GA, and Townville Baptist Church, Townville, SC. After retirement, he served as Supply Pastor and Interim Pastor at several area churches. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Anderson.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Murphy of Anderson, and Emily Murphy Wyatt and husband, Larry of Augusta, GA; daughter-in-law, Margaret Murphy of Martin, GA; five grandchildren, Mitchell Murphy and wife, Lori, Michelle M. Ashworth and husband, Kelly, Micah Murphy and wife, Ashley, Amanda W. Pope and husband, Nathan, and Jonathan Wyatt and wife, Kristin; 11 great-grandchildren, Andrew Murphy, Ashley Crumpton, Grace, Noel, Mercy, and Caleb Ashworth, Emma, Olivia, and Corinna Pope, Josiah, Benjamin and William Wyatt; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles William “Billy” Murphy, a brother, Albert Murphy, and sisters, Leoline Bradberry, Savilla Murphy, Lucille Elrod, Lillie Morris, Maebelle Davis, Edna Murphy, and Charity Coker.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at New Prospect Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Tony Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of a daughter, Betty Murphy, 1102 Green Acres, Anderson.

Rufus Mitchell, Jr.

February 23, 1932 – February 5, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Rufus Mitchell, Jr., 78 of Anderson, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 5, 2011, after a brief illness at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Rev. Rufus and Willie Mae Mitchell.  HE was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Army.  He was a POW in the Korean Conflict and received many medals and awards for his service.  He worked many years in the city of Anderson as a police officer and was known as “Teddy Bear”.  He retired after being self-employed as a car dealer.   He was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple where he served as a trustee and was a member of The Forever Young Sunday School class. In addition, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Anderson Chapter 40. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Holliday.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Martha Charping Mitchell; son, Kevin (LeAnn) Mitchell of Simpsonville; daughter, Donna Gantt Ellis of Greenwood; grandsons, Richie (Ariel) Earle, Eric Earle, Travis Gantt and Hunter Mitchell and great-grandchildren; twins, Tayt and Raleigh Earle; brothers, Jack (Shirley) Mitchell of Abbeville and Billy (Jeanette) of Anderson; sister, Betty (Haskell) Moon of Anderson.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 1:30 pm at Gethsemane Baptist Temple, 6116 Highway 81 South, Starr, SC,  conducted by the Reverend Sam Duncan and Dr. Bennie Speares.  Interment will follow in M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors.

Brenda H. Crotts

August 31, 1959 – February 6, 2011

PENDLETON, SC - Brenda Gayle Hayes Crotts, age 51, wife of Donald S. Crotts of 109 Calhoun Avenue, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House

Born in Anderson, SC on August 31, 1959, Brenda was a daughter of Shelba Staggs Cloud of Anderson.  She was employed at Mac’s Dry Cleaners for seventeen years and also worked at Stewart’s Restaurant.  She attended NewSpring Church. 

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her son, Stewart Crotts and his wife, Shelley; daughter, Crystal Jordan and her husband, George; two grandchildren, Austin Griffith and Riley Jordan and three step-grandchildren; brothers, Darrell Staggs and Mike Hayes, all of Anderson; sister, Donna Capps of Pelzer.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Jonathan Hodges. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

LUCILLE WHITEN

May 31, 1935 – January 29, 2011

Fair Play, SC – Lucille Sullivan Freeman Whiten, age 75, of 203 Sullivan Road, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011 at her residence.

Born in Anderson, SC on May 31, 1935 to the late Alton Sullivan and Opel Stone Sullivan, Mrs. Whiten retired after 30 years from the Beacon Manufacturing Company. She was a former member of Double Springs Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was an avid Atlanta Braves and South Carolina Gamecocks fan. She was attending Oakdale Baptist Church. Mrs. Whiten was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Whiten is survived by her children, Gary Freeman and his wife Carol of Westminster, SC, Patricia Wilt and her husband David of Fair Play, SC, Diane Mathis of Seneca, SC, Alan Freeman and his wife Terri of Fair Play, SC; two brothers, Joe Sullivan of Fair Play, SC and James Sullivan of Williamston, SC; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whiten is predeceased by her first husband, John T. Freeman and her second husband, Arlton Whiten, as well as a son, John David Freeman, a brother, Junior Sullivan and four sisters, Rachel King, Louise Roach, Frances Burns, and Ruth Cobb.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverends David Blizzard and David Walters officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, 205 Sullivan Road, Fair Play, SC and will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

CHARLOTTE B. TERRY

September 12, 1946 – January 27, 2011

IVA, SC - Mary Charlotte Bruce Terry, age 64, of 160 Washington Street, died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC on September 12, 1946, Ms. Terry was a daughter of Mary Elizabeth Duffell Simpson and the late Charlie William Bruce.  She was a graduate of Dixie High School and attended Anderson College and Tri-County Technical College.  She was a legal secretary for Judge Franklin McClain for over ten years and was very active in Iva City politics.  She was a member of Fellowship Wesleyan Church of Iva where she was also a Sunday School teacher. 

She is survived by her mother, Mary Elizabeth Duffell Simpson of Greenville; son, Timothy Brian Ashley and his wife, Lisa of Syracuse, NY; daughter, Dana Michele Reynolds of Murrells Inlet, SC; and one grandson, Airman 1st Class Brandon Paul Reynolds and his wife, Jennifer Ann Reynolds of Whiteman AFB in Missouri; brother, Sonny Bruce of Greenwood, SC; sisters, Inez Bruce of Iva, Jane Hanvey of Greenwood and Dianne Craft of Greenville

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 3:30 pm at Iva City Cemetery officiated by the Reverend Billy Pinson and Reverend Stephen Love. 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm.
