JIM BROWN

FEBRUARY 13, 1943 – JANUARY 17, 2011

BELTON, SC – Jimmy Ralph Brown, age 67, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born February 13, 1943, in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Ralph Leon Brown and Fannie Mae Harrison Brown.  Mr. Brown served in the United States Air Force and was a retired manager with Parnell-Martin, Inc.

Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Carlene Shuler Brown, of the home; daughter, Lisa Hadden of Belton, SC; son, Jimmy T. Brown and wife, Edie of Anderson, SC; sister, Jane Stovall of Anderson, SC; brother, Bobby Brown of Anderson, SC; and four grandchildren: Kyle Hadden, Troy Brown, Haley Brown, and Arik Boyd.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Brown.

The family will receive friends in The McDougald Family Center from 6pm until 8pm on Wednesday, January 19, 2011.  The family will host a Memorial Service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

ROBERT H. BRITENBURG

ANDERSON- Robert Hickman Britenburg, 82, of Anderson, died Wednesday January 12, 2011 at NHC of Anderson.

Born September 7, 1928 in Campbell County, KY he was the son of the late Earl M and Mary Sue Hickman Britenburg. He was a graduate of Northwestern University and Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Ohio.

Surviving are his brother, James E. Britenburg, and his wife, Elyse of Anderson and their children. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Maurine V. Britenburg.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

WADE H. GILMER

ANDERSON - Wade Hampton Gilmer, Jr., 78, died Saturday, January15, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born October 20, 1932 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Wade Hampton and Nancy McAlister Gilmer. He served in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of Clemson University. He retired as office manager with T. Ree McCoy and Son Builders with 42 years service. Mr. Gilmer was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he had served as a Deacon, Elder, and Church Trustee.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Linda Gilmer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy G. McCoy. Graveside services were held Sunday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Marshall Tribble.

Wortilee B. Vinson

May 18, 1934 – January 14, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Mrs. Wortilee Blackston Vinson, age 76, of 417 Singleton Road, died Friday, January 14, 2011 at her residence.

Born in Anderson, SC, Wortilee was the daughter of the late Randolph Blackston and Doshie Mae Ferguson Blackston.  She attended and graduated from the Anderson City Schools.  In 1984, she retired from textiles having worked with J. P. Stevens, Appleton Plant for 25 years.  Wortilee was a member and Past Matron of The Eastern Star, Anderson Chapter #130 and was member of the Ladies of  The Shrine.  She was a faithful member of New Prospect Baptist Church where she attended the Seekers Sunday School class and was involved in the WMU, Mary Hall Group.

Wortilee is survived by two sons, Randy Vinson and his wife, Marcia and Barry Vinson; a grandson, David Vinson and two great-grandchildren, D.J. and Myra Vinson all of Anderson, SC. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Noah Vinson, Jr., one son, Robert Bryan Vinson and a sister, Genell B. Goss. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2011, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, January 15, 2011, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

JEAN WALKER COOPER

ANDERSON - Betty Jean Walker Cooper, 59, of 701 Glenwood Avenue, died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at her residence.

Born October 19, 1951 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Joel Henry and Sara Agnes Norris Walker. She was a graduate of Wren High School and was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sisters, Mary Frances Banks of Marietta, Linda Faye McGraw of Pendleton, and Mildred Gann of Savannah, GA; two brothers, Jerry Daniel Walker and Joel Ernest Walker, both of Anderson; and a cousin, Louise “June” M. Brown, with whom she made her home.

A private family burial will be at Six & Twenty Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Concord Baptist Church Building Fund, 1012 Concord Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

MILDRED RUSSELL

APRIL 22, 1931 – JANUARY 7, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Mildred Elizabeth Russell, age 79, of 123 Cole Circle, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011.

Born April 22, 1931, in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late Olitone Smith and Alice Fowler Smith.  She was a homemaker and a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Oscar Russell of the home; daughters: Janice Russell Lowe and husband, David, and Gail McGregor McCoy and husband, Eddie (deceased); grandchildren: Kirk & Kreig Lowe, and Krystal & Candice McGregor; sister, Thelma King; brothers: Melvin Smith and Wilton Smith, all of Anderson, SC.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by sisters: Montez Bryant, Jeanette Finley, and Thrace Haley; and a brother, William Smith.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 4pm until 5pm on Sunday, January 9, 2011.  A private entombment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

ANDERSON, SC – Sue Elaine Wilson, age 61, 151 Allendale Circle, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011.

Born December 4, 1949, in Oconee County, SC, she was daughter of the late Claude and Blanche Barker Murphree.  Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, William Edward “Bill” Wilson of the home; daughters: Cindy Gurley of Anderson, SC, and Tammy Roberts of Evans, GA; sons: William E. Wilson, Jr. of Anderson, SC, and Matthew Wilson of Anderson, SC; brother, Jack Murphree of Winter Haven, FL; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 9, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

JOANN BEASLEY RUMSEY

ANDERSON, SC - JoAnn Beasley Rumsey, age 76, of 413 E. Roosevelt Drive, wife of the late Melvin Rumsey, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born in Anderson, SC on August 3, 1934, Mrs. Rumsey was a daughter of the late James Edward Beasley and Gertrude Smith Beasley.  She retired from Milliken & Company and worked for Bobby Dan Manufacturing for many years.  She was a very active woman who was strong in her Baptist Faith and loved her family.

Survivors include her sons Jerry Lee Craft, James Wade Craft and Dennis Neil Craft; daughters, Shirley Ann Jenkins, Deborah Hammond and Diane Andrews; brother, Kenneth Beasley; sister, Geraldine Arnold all of Anderson;  one grandchild, Sasha Craft, raised in the home and 11 grandchildren;15 great-grandchildren and first husband, Frank Newton Craft, Jr. of Anderson. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by brothers, J. B. Beasley, Houston Beasley and Bill Beasley; sisters, Pat Heaton, Maxie Gentry, Virginia Hudgens and a grandson, Jimmy Moore.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Gene Williams.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.

ROBENA BAILEY CHARPING

ANDERSON, SC - Robena Bailey Charping, age 95, passed away January 2, 2011.  Born March 2, 1915 in Hartwell, GA, she was the last living descendent of Stonewall Jackson Bailey and Georgia Moore Bailey Whitworth. She was a homemaker and a member of Flat Rock Presbyterian Church.  She had many friends.

Robena is survived by six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her great nephews and nieces, James and Danny Alexander of Elberton, GA; Hazel Cannon of Bowersville, GA, Carolyn Maroney of Williamston, SC and Dorothy Sloan of Asheville, NC; all children of the late Cornelia Alexander, her niece. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Henry Charping; sons, Cecil and Horace Charping and sister, Ada Mae Charping.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Sanders Reed.  Interment will follow in Iva City Cemetery. 

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm.

DENNIS MOORE

September 11, 1972 – January 1, 2011

Anderson, SC – Dennis Moore, age 38, of 516 Bowen Street, went to be with the Lord  Saturday, January 1, 2011 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC on September 11, 1972, Dennis was a son of Sharon Worley of Anderson and the late Rayford William Moore, Sr. He attended Westside High School and worked in the construction business for many years. He visited Landmark Free Will Baptist Church where his mother was a member.

Survivors include his mother of Anderson, SC and a special niece, Rayven Moore.

In addition to his father, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, Rayford William Moore, Jr., his grandparents, Alex and Nellie Ruth Moore and Ernest and Frances Bowen.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 3:30 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend James Coley officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
