JEWELL H. BOULWARE

MAY 21, 1926 – DECEMBER 27, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Jewell Grace Hudgens Boulware, age 84, wife of the late Francis Leon Boulware, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010, at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born May 21, 1926, in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late August Hudgens and Daisy Bell Shaw Hudgens.  Mrs. Boulware retired from BASF and was a member of Roberts Presbyterian Church and had attended North Anderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She is survived by her children: Peggy Dyar Cole and husband, Dr. Spurgeon Cole of Bogart, GA, and Bobby Eugene Dyar of Brunswick, GA; sister, Mildred H. Price of Charleston, SC; brother,  Thomas Cullen Hudgens of Portland, OR; grandchildren: Stephanie Jewelisa Darby, Kimberly Karmann Alford, Stephen Anthony Dyar, and Brian Keith Dyar; great grandchildren: Skyler Lowe, Mikayla Darby, Spencer Darby, Cole Alford, Caden Alford, McKenzie Dyar, Alex Dyar, and Jacob Dyar; and niece and good friend, Barbara Jean Smith of Honea Path, SC.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Emma Jean H. Kay.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend J. Floyd Stansell, Jr. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. 

The family is at the home, 3905 South Main Street, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1pm until 2pm on Wednesday, prior to the service.

ROBERT A. POTHIER

September 10, 1932 – December 25, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Robert “Bob” Arthur Pothier, age 78 loving husband of 43 years to Dana Dean Lindsay Pothier of 101 Country Garden Lane, died Saturday, December 25, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Biddeford, Maine on September 10, 1932, Mr. Pothier was a son of the late Emile N. Pothier and Emma A. Piette Pothier.  Bob was raised in Saco, Maine where he graduated from the Thornton Academy.  He was a United States Navy veteran.  He was a director of Data Processing for Travelers Insurance in Norcross, GA for thirty years.  He was a resident of Gwinnett County where he was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce of Gwinnett County, GA.  After retiring he moved to Mount Dora, FL where he lived for five years before moving to Anderson, SC.  He was a member of the Anderson Elks Club and of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. 

Survivors include his wife of the home; sons, Michael R. Pothier, Sr., and his wife, Christina of Etowah, NC, Richard R. Pothier and his wife, Elissa of Summit, NJ and Robert M. Pothier and his wife, Sunshyne of Acworth, GA; daughters, Patricia J. Piotrowski of Powder Springs, GA and Renee’ E. Dempsey and her husband, Martin of Jefferson, GA; nine grandchildren, Michael, Elise, Rachel, Jacqueline, Catherine, Lorelei, Carter Pothier and Danielle and Julia Dempsey; one great-grandchild, Layla Pothier and sister, Lucille J. Jamieson and her husband, Jim of Saco, Maine. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Norman E. Pothier. 

A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 11:00 am at Saint Joseph Catholic Church conducted by Father Aubrey McNeil, OFM.

A Prayer Vigil will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 5:30 pm with visitation to follow.

MAC McCOY

JANUARY 19, 1922 – DECEMBER 25, 2010 

ANDERSON, SC -- Furman Clyde McCoy, age 88, of 2302 Lindale Road passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2010, at his home.

Born January 19, 1922, in Anderson County, Mr. McCoy was the son of the late Furman Clyde McCoy and Vivian King McCoy.  He graduated in the Class of 1940 from Belton High School and later served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II.  Mr. McCoy was the retired Superintendent of T. Ree McCoy Builders.  He was formerly active as a member of the Sertoma Club of Anderson and as a lifetime member of the Belton Masonic Lodge No. 108.  Mr. McCoy was a lifelong member, lifetime Deacon, and former Sunday School Teacher at Neal’s Creek Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Laura Wilson McCoy, of the home; one daughter, Mary Jo Hulme and husband, Doug Hulme; daughter-in-law, Linda McCoy, all of Anderson, SC; six grandchildren: Greg McCoy and wife, Wendy McCoy, Kristi McCoy, Heather Jones and husband, Jason Jones, Dusty Owens, Megan Owens, and Jennifer Browning and husband, John Browning; great grandchildren: Chloe McCoy and Dannon McCoy; and a special niece, Nancy Bryant and husband, Truman Bryant.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by two sons: Michael Clyde McCoy and James Lonnie McCoy; and two sisters: Edna Church and Mildred Mize. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Monday, December 27, 2010, at Neal’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Alex Henderson.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Ordained Deacons of Neal’s Creek Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Escort.

The family is at the home and will receive friend from 1pm until 3pm on Monday at Neal’s Creek Baptist Church, prior to the service.

FAYE CASON

ANDERSON - Faye Swaney Gunter Cason, 89, of 205 Riverside Chase Circle, Greenville, formerly of Anderson, died Thursday, December 23, 2010.

Born August 3, 1921 in Pendleton, she was the daughter of the late Jude and Susan Whitlock Swaney. She was twice married, first to the late Collier Gunter and second to the late Charles H. Cason. She worked at Anderson Memorial Hospital (AnMed), the University of Florida's Medical Center and the Anderson County Health Department. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson.

Surviving are her daughters, Jan Gunter Fox of Gainesville, VA and Shelia Gunter Bain of Greer; 6 grandchildren, Michelle Cousins, Mark and Kirk Fox, Kevin and Keith Bain and Laurie Fox Allen and 7 great grandchildren, Ransom, Kyler, Bailey, Nina, Reilly, Noah and Sydney. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Gunter Byrd; her twin brother and 12 other brothers and sisters.

Graveside service will be held at 3pm Wednesday at Old Silver Brook Cemetery with Dr. James R. Thomason officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at their respective homes.

JIM GRAHAM

JANUARY 28, 1948 – DECEMBER 23, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – James Joseph Graham, age 62, of 2849 West Whitner Street, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in England on January 28, 1948, he was a longtime resident of California and relocated to Anderson in 1993.  Mr. Graham was a past labor union foreman and a member of the Restoration Revival Center Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Diane McGuire Graham; children: Angela Shiflet of Anderson, Faith McGuire of Anderson, and Douglas Shiflet; and nine grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 pm on Sunday, December 26, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Ray Witherington.   Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm on Sunday, prior to the service.

JACK M. SNIPES

TOWNVILLE - Jack Milton Snipes, 53, of Ramage Road, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010.

Born December 29, 1956 in Anderson, he was the son of Guynell Adams Snipes and the late Duane Mitchell Snipes. He was a former textile employee and a member of Dickson Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Guynell A. Snipes of Townville; sister, Jill S. Robinson of Austin, TX; three nieces and one nephew.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Dickson Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Jimmy Adams, Rev. Bob Hicks and Rev. Paul Cheezem. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. The family is at the home of his mother, 104 Ramage Road, Townville.

MARGUERITE S. CARPENTER

NOVEMBER 11, 1927 – DECEMBER 20, 2010

CLINTON, SC – Marguerite Schoen Carpenter, age 83, beloved wife of the late Colonel John Sidney Carpenter, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2010. 

Born in Cleveland, OH, Mrs. Carpenter was the daughter of the late Victor Hugo Schoen and Rose Kiss Schoen.  She received degrees from both Miami University in Oxford, OH, and the University of Wyoming.  Mrs. Carpenter was a retired Educator having taught fourth thru twelfth grades in Wyoming, Utah, Virginia, and South Carolina.  Additionally, she taught at the University of Wyoming in Laramie as well as Charleston Southern University.   Mrs. Carpenter was a member and Elder in the Summerville Presbyterian Church; member and past President of the Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega; member of the Upstate Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega; lifetime member and former State President of the American Association of University Women with dual memberships in Anderson and Summerville branches; lifetime memberships in Delta Omicron (International Music Fraternity) and Sigma Delta Pi (Honorary Spanish Fraternity); and a member of the American Guild of Organists.  She was a longtime accompanist on the state level for the Solo & Ensemble Competition for the South Carolina Band Directors Competition.  Mrs. Carpenter was instrumental in founding the Summerville Music Club and was active within the Summerville Book Club.  While a resident of Anderson, SC, she was active within the Literary Society as well as being a committed associate member of the Mount Zion Presbyterian Church in Sandy Springs, SC.  She may also be remembered as an avid Environmentalist who was passionate about recycling. 

Survivors include her three sons: John Sidney Carpenter, III, and wife, Tracy, of Anderson, SC, Robert David Carpenter of Manning, SC, and Victor Joseph Carpenter and wife, Laurey, of Greenwood, SC; five grandchildren, five nieces, and many cousins. 

Memorial Services will be held in Clinton, SC, as well as Summerville, SC.  On Thursday, December 23, 2010, a Memorial Service will be held at the Presbyterian Home of SC – Clinton, SC, at 10:00 am.   On Monday, December 27, 2010, a Memorial Service will be held at the Summerville Presbyterian Church, Summerville, SC, at 11:00 am.  A family committal service will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to the Governors School for the Arts & Humanities, 15 University Street, Greenville, SC, 29601, or to the Summerville Presbyterian Church, 407 South Laurel Street, Summerville, SC, 29483.

Anderson, SC – Mark Rolland Preseau, age 40, of Anderson, passed away at his residence on Saturday, December 18, 2010. 

Born in Sudbury, VT, Mark was a graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School and a former employee of Ideal Steel. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include Mark’s parents, Edgar E. Preseau and Monique Chicoine Preseau; two brothers, Evan Preseau and his wife Eileen of Keystone Heights, FL and Alan Preseau of Anderson, SC; his grandmother, Cecile Preseau of Sudbury, VT; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Noon with Father Ernie Hepner officiating. Inurnment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Pendleton, SC – Lula King Harper, age 84, of 507 Harper Road, passed away at her residence on Saturday, December 18, 2010.

Born November 17, 1926 to the late Kimsey King and Mary Iola Owen King, Mrs. Harper was a retired homemaker and an avid farmer in the Lebanon community. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church. 

Survivors include her daughter, Azalee Bridges and her husband Joe of Pendleton, SC; one son, Mickey L. Harper and his wife Vickie of Easley, SC; one sister Bular Hammond Brown of Williamston, SC; seven grandchildren, Chris, Jeff, and Scott Harper of Anderson, SC, Jimmy and Tim Bridges of Anderson, SC, and Sherry Brock and Aletha Smith of Pendleton, SC; five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harper is predeceased by her husband of sixty-one years, Teasley Harper; a son, Kimsey Harper; her brother, Clifton King; and a sister, Ruby K. Creamer.

The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverends Phil Clardy and Jason Webb officiating. Interment will follow in Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery.

J.C. STANDRIDGE

Anderson, SC – J.C. Standridge, age 81, of Anderson, SC, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC on May 9, 1929 to the late Clayton Columbus “Jack” Standridge and Lois Lee Sullivan, Mr. Standridge served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was a retired plant engineer. He was a founding member and former deacon at Pleasant View Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen Brown Standridge; sons, Joe Steven Standridge and his wife Marilyn of Greer, SC and Jeffery Clay Standridge and his wife Cheri of Abbeville, SC; a daughter, Debra S. Hampton of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Loretta Koochagian of Columbia, SC, Janice Force of Hendersonville, NC, and Mary Anne Evans of Anderson, SC; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Pleasantview Baptist Church with the Dr. Glen Taylor and Rev. David Strickland officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. The Julian Campbell Sunday School class will serve as Honorary Escort.

VIRGINIA “JENNY” SANDERS

April 12, 1939 – December 18, 2010

Anderson, SC – Virginia “Jenny” Blanche Simpson Sanders, age 71, wife of Harold Sanders of 506 W. Shockley Ferry Road, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born on April 12, 1939 to the late Rev. J. Marvin Simpson and Dorothy Griffin Simpson, Mrs. Sanders attended Camden High School where she was Miss Gold and Black in 1958. She was a homemaker and a member of Homeland Park Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 4th and 5th graders for many years. She was a former member of Anderson Women’s Bowling Association.

Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband of the home; her daughter, Kimberly Harris and her husband Gary of Pendleton, SC; two grandchildren, Kristen Barberi and her husband Joseph and Dustin Harris and his wife Brittany; one great-grandson Ethan Barberi; one expected great-granddaughter Elliana Harris; and a sister, Delores Taylor of Lugoff, SC.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sanders is predeceased by three brothers, J. Marvin Simpson, Jr., Charles Albert Simpson, and Jimmy Maurice Simpson, and one sister, Marlene Huckaby.

The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverends Larry Cox and U.C. Neill officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 20, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
