PAULINE CAMPBELL BURDETTE

November 5, 1922 – December 4, 2010 

Iva, SC – Addie Pauline Campbell Burdette, 88, wife of Columbus “CL” LeRoy Burdette, of 808 Mt. Vernon Church Road, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Willow Creek Living Center. 

Born November 5, 1922 to the late Cooley Campbell and Zillie Wheeler Campbell, Mrs. Burdette was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School Class.

In addition to her husband of the home, Mrs. Burdette is survived by her children, Roy Burdette and his wife Gail of Iva, Hoyt Burdette of Iva, Larry Burdette of Anderson, Linda Moran of Iva, Wayne Burdette and his wife Elaine of Iva, Tracy Burdette and his wife Amanda of Starr, and James Burdette, also of Starr; sixteen grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, fourteen step-great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and 2 step-great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Burdette was predeceased not only by her parents, but also three infant children, her sister, Macy McNeal, and her brothers, William, James, Fred, Richard, Charles, Cooley Jr., and Bobby Campbell.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 6, 2010 at Union Baptist Church with Reverends Danny Burnley and Delano McMinn officiating. Interment will follow in Union Baptist Church cemetery. 

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Gleaners Sunday School Class at Union Baptist Church, 703 Barnes Station Road, Iva, SC 29655.

LOU ESTHER RAINEY

June 21, 1944 – December 4, 2010

Anderson, SC – Lou Esther Dunn Rainey, age 66, of Anderson, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 at National HealthCare of Anderson.

Born June 21, 1944 in Anderson, SC to the late Talford P. Dunn and Jennie Faye Richey Dunn, Mrs. Rainey was a graduate of Girls’ High School and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She worked as a tailor for many years and was the owner of LuCan Tailoring.

Survivors include a son, William “Billy” Rainey, and her daughter, Marie R. Rhodes and her husband, Phil, all of Starr, SC; three grandchildren, Eli Rhodes, Melissa Rhodes and Kayla Rainey; two brothers, Rod Dunn and Jason Dunn, both of Anderson; and one sister, Betty Jo Dickson, also of Anderson; and seventeen nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rainey was predeceased by a son, John Henry Rainey , a a sister, Fredda Dean Rider, and a brother, Gary Dunn.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, December 6, 2010 at Ruhamah United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mark Dickson officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the church.

MICKEY BAKER

ANDERSON- Milton Lee "Mickey" Baker, 76, of 1202 Amity Rd. died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Stephens County Hospital.

Born August 6, 1934 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Shorty Baker and the late Sally Darby Baker Turner. 

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Whitener Baker of the home; sons: Freddie Baker, Alex Baker both of Anderson and Ricky Baker of North Carolina; daughters: Melissa Ables of Anderson and Diane Chrietzberg of Belton.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 PM at the Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 North.

BOBBY WOOTEN

OCTOBER 18, 1941 – NOVEMBER 28, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Bobby Larry Wooten, age 69, of 3549 Keys Street, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010.

Born in Anderson, SC, on October 18, 1941, he was a son of the late Same Thomas Wooten, Sr., and Clattie Hall Wooten.  Following a thirty-five year career in the textiles industry, Mr. Wooten retired from the Anderson County after ten years of service.  He was a member of Trinity Springs Church of God.  Mr. Wooten loved riding his bicycle and was affectionately known in the Homeland Park community as “Santa Claus”.

He is survived by his wife of almost forty-eight years, Shirley Jean Horne Wooten; two sons: Larry Wayne Wooten of Iva, and Scottie Wooten and wife, Louise of Starr; two sisters: Annie Sue Cox of Starr, and Betty Jo Novak of Wilmington, DE; three brothers: Charles Wooten of Anderson, William Wooten of Iva, and Danny Wooten of Anderson; two step grandchildren: Christopher William Colley and Jonathan Terry Holley; and two step great grandchildren: Braydan Colley and Tucker Colley.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers: Herman, F.D., Jack Thomas, James, and Sam T. Wooten, Jr.  He was also predeceased by his beloved bulldog, “Buster”.

The Funeral Service will be held at 4pm on Thursday, December 2, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend James Patterson and the Reverend Scott Vaughn.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family is at the residence, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 9pm on Wednesday.

RENEE L. HARDY

MAY 18, 1959 - NOVEMBER 27,2010

ANDERSON, SC – Donna Renee Lowe Hardy, age 51, of 518 Drayton Circle, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010, at AnMed Medical Health Center.

Born in Anderson on May 18, 1959, she was the daughter of Larry & Joyce Cox Lowe.  She was a 1977 graduate of  T.L. Hanna High School, and a graduate of  Tri-County Technical College with a degree in  nursing.  She then moved to Denver, Colorado where she lived for over twenty-two years, and worked at the Select Specialty Hospital and was also a member of the Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church of Denver.  Renee returned to Anderson were she worked at the Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital and was attending the Temple Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Madison Caroline Hardy, of the home, grandparents, Archie & Etta Cox.  

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Paul & Ruth Lowe of Anderson, SC.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Larry Pearson, the Reverend Gordon Taylor, and the Reverend Ron Pressley.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.

JOHNNYE MURDOCK ULDRICK  

RALEIGH, N. C. - Johnnye Murdock Uldrick, Mother, Music teacher and respected community leader and advocate of children, passed away Sunday night.    She was 77.

Johnnye was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold S. Murdock and sister of the late Mr. Harry Saylors Murdock of the Saylors Cross Road community in Anderson County, South Carolina.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. John Paul Uldrick of Raleigh, North Carolina, daughter, Jann-Paul Uldrick of Raleigh; nephew, Steve Murdock of Belton, South Carolina; and niece, Melissa Murdock Fisher of Columbia, South Carolina.

Johnnye graduated from Honea Path High School, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Furman University in 1953.  She earned a Master’s of Science in Education from Clemson University in 1960 and did other post-graduate work at The University of Florida in Gainesville.

Johnnye was a private piano teacher all of her life. She taught hundreds of children and adults how to play the piano.   She taught music and music appreciation in public and private schools in South Carolina, Florida, and Maryland.  Johnnye was a member of Severna Park Baptist Church, where she served as Church Organist, Children’s Choir Director, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Nominating and Music Committees.   She was a member and director of the Anne Arundel County Concert Association throughout the 1970s and 80s. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Friday, November 26, 2010, at Mount Bethel Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Donnie Murdock.   Burial will follow in the family plot of Mount Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Erskine College or to the American Alzheimer’s Association.

FAIR PLAY, SC – Anthony Curtis Pruitt, age 55, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, SC, on February 1, 1955, he is survived by his mother, Edith Louise Whitman Hopson and husband, Lee R. Hopson of Martin, GA; his father, Richard Curtis Pruitt and Mary of Anderson, SC; sons: Dayion Pruitt of Jonesboro, GA, and Tyler Pruitt of Fair Play, SC; and brothers, Dean Pruitt of Fair Play, SC, Scott Pruitt of Anderson, SC, and Shaun Pruitt of Anderson, SC; a stepbrother, Brad Alford of Royston, GA; one grandson and one granddaughter also survive with several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

APRIL 2, 1931 – NOVEMBER 21, 2010 

ANDERSON, SC – Jean Butler Hays, age 79, of 1012 Bern Circle, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at NHC Healthcare.

Born in Dillon, SC, on April 2, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Clarence C. Butler and Emma Taylor Butler.  She was a homemaker and was a charter member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Ann H. Tiller of Anderson, SC, and Lynn H. Nichols and husband, Wayne of Seneca, SC; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband in 2006, William “Bill” Elrod Hays; a sister, Louise I. Butler; and a brother, Clarence C. Butler, Jr; and one great-grandchild, Jacklyn S. Tiller.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Mack Tester and Dr. Jack D. Couch.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

JANE WEBB TAYLOR

October 10, 1955 – November 18, 2010

Houston, TX – Jane Ross Taylor, age 55, wife of H. Guy Taylor of 2703 Tudor Manor, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2010 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.

Born in Anderson, SC on October 10, 1955 to the late John Clifton Webb and Helen Watt Webb, Jane was a T.L. Hanna High School graduate, Class of 1973 then attended Forrest College. She worked as an administrative assistant at Clemson University then J.E. Sirrine Engineering (now known as Jacobs Engineering). Jane lived in Simpsonville, SC over 12 years before moving to Houston, TX. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Houston, TX.

In addition to her husband of the home, Mrs. Taylor is survived by two step-sons, Matthew Guy Taylor of Lumberton, NJ, and Scott Arron Taylor of Terre Haute, IN; one brother, Neil Webb of Charleston, SC; and five grandchildren, Madeline, Gabriel, Susannah, Megan and Seth.

 The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Pastors Keith Taylor and Julie Lake officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

DORIS DYAR

August 7, 1929 – November 19, 2010

Townville, SC – Doris Eloise LeCroy Dyar, age 81, wife of Clinton J. Dyar of 121 Pointe Lookout, passed away Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, SC on August 7, 1929 to the late Herbert F. and Maude Fowler LeCroy, Doris and her husband formerly lived in southern Florida for over 30 years then returned to the Anderson area in 1992. Doris was a homemaker and a member of Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church where she worked in the church nursery for many years. She enjoyed researching her family history.

In addition to her husband of the home, Mrs. Dyar is survived by two sons, Michael D. Dyar of Greenville, SC and Danny R. Dyar and his wife Lisa of Deerfield Beach, FL; a sister, Ruth Nixon of Anderson, SC and one grandson, Michael Dyar of Anchorage, AK.

She was predeceased by her parents as well as a son, James Randall Dyar, and a sister, Edith White.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Rev. Brent Lollis, Rev. Tommy Wooten and Layman Harry Osborne officiating. Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

JOSEPHINE GREGORY

ANDERSON, SC - Josephine “Jo” Pescatore Gregory, age 88, wife of Ciro “Cy” Gregory of 1204 Stonehurst Drive, died Monday, November 15, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Leo Pescatore and Kathryn Rambone Pescatore.  Mrs. Gregory managed the Poetry Corner while it was published in the Hometowner, Anderson Independent Mail.  She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Steven Gregory of Anderson and Robert Gregory and his wife, Denise Amstutz of Kirkland, WA; brother, Michael Pescatore of Manahawkin, NJ; two grandchildren, Emily Gregory Farr and Elliott Gregory and a great-grandson, James Vincent Farr. 

The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 11:00 am at Saint Joseph Catholic Church officiated by Father Aubrey McNeil, OFM.  Interment will follow at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veteran’s Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson, SC 29621. 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday  from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

RHONDA KAY FREEMAN

ANDERSON, SC - Rhonda Kay Freeman, 47, of Anderson, passed away Friday, Nov., 19, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

She leaves behind a daughter; Jessica Lowe Watson (Cody); son, Brady Maroney; sisters, Ann Tinsley, Janice Lowe (Ronnie), Renee Sharer (Jim); brothers, Terry Elrod, Steve Kay (Jane), David Kay (Kathy); her companion, Chris Maroney and life-long friend, Tony Carroll.

Preceding her in death are parents, Dewitt and Gertrude Meyers Kay; brothers, Kenneth Elrod and Mark Kay.

Visitation will be Monday, November 22, 2010 from Noon until 1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home followed by the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 2:00 pm, officiated by the Reverend Sam Duncan. Burial will follow in Old Silver Brook Cemetery. 

The family will be at the home of her sister, Janice Lowe, 306 Winfield Drive, Anderson, SC.
