JOHNNYE MURDOCK ULDRICK

RALEIGH, N. C. - Johnnye Murdock Uldrick, Mother, Music teacher and respected community leader and advocate of children, passed away Sunday night. She was 77.
Johnnye was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold S. Murdock and sister of the late Mr. Harry Saylors Murdock of the Saylors Cross Road community in Anderson County, South Carolina.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. John Paul Uldrick of Raleigh, North Carolina, daughter, Jann-Paul Uldrick of Raleigh; nephew, Steve Murdock of Belton, South Carolina; and niece, Melissa Murdock Fisher of Columbia, South Carolina.
Johnnye graduated from Honea Path High School, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Furman University in 1953. She earned a Master’s of Science in Education from Clemson University in 1960 and did other post-graduate work at The University of Florida in Gainesville.
Johnnye was a private piano teacher all of her life. She taught hundreds of children and adults how to play the piano. She taught music and music appreciation in public and private schools in South Carolina, Florida, and Maryland. Johnnye was a member of Severna Park Baptist Church, where she served as Church Organist, Children’s Choir Director, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Nominating and Music Committees. She was a member and director of the Anne Arundel County Concert Association throughout the 1970s and 80s.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Friday, November 26, 2010, at Mount Bethel Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Donnie Murdock. Burial will follow in the family plot of Mount Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Erskine College or to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
