GAYNELL COLLINS

ANDERSON – Gaynell Gillespie Collins, 86, of 110 Sydney Court, wife of Gennar Collins, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born May 16, 1926 in Oconee, she was the daughter of the late Clint and Danie Lou Fowler Gillespie. She was retired from the lunch room at LaFrance Elementary School. Gaynell was a member of LaFrance Church of God.

Surviving are her husband,  Gennar Collins of the home; 2 daughters, Joyce Bridges and her husband, Scooter and Vicki Burdette all of Anderson; son, Robert Collins of Greenville; 4 grandchildren, Casey, Brittni, Robin and Gary; 5 great grandchildren and 2 brothers, Charles and Bill Gillespie. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Jack, Milton, Bruce, Ralph, Ervin Gillespie and Eugene Wyatt  and 3 sisters, Mildred Snelgrove, Lila Nichols and Doris Quarles.

Funeral service will be held at 2pm Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary with Rev. Jones Brewer    officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 until 2pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

MARY RUTH STUART

July 23, 1922 – February 4, 2013

Mary Ruth Woolbright Stuart, age 90, of 722 Luke Bouknight Road, Starr, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013.  Born in Townville, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Guy Woolbright and the late Mattie Nell Bolt Woolbright.  She was the wife of the late Melvin Maurice Stuart.

Mary Ruth was a 1939 graduate of Townville High School, and graduated from Anderson College.  She also studied at Erskine College, University of SC and Clemson University, earning the equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree.   Mrs. Stuart was a lifelong educator, having retired after 47 years as a teacher at Flat Rock Elementary School and Starr Elementary School.  She was a long time member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where she taught third and fourth grade Sunday school classes, sang in the choir, a past president of WMU and was a circle leader. She was a leader of the church GA’s.   Mrs. Stuart was a past president of The Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include a sister, Frances W. Dyar and her husband, John, of Seneca; also surviving are several special nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and her husband, Melvin, Mrs. Stuart was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Frances Stuart; two brothers, Guy Woolbright, Jr. and William Bolt Woolbright. 

A celebration of life service for Mrs. Stuart will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at 2 PM, at the Flat Rock Baptist Church, with Rev. Ed Hunsinger and Dr. Tony Smith officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, from 5 PM until 7 PM. 

Contributions in memory of Mary Ruth would be appreciated and may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church, 908 Flat Rock Road, Anderson, SC 29624.

ELLEN HALL

October 29, 1922 – February 3, 2013 

IVA, SC - Ellen McKee Hall, age 90, of Iva, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Fellowship Health and Rehab.

Born in Iva, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Earnest McKee and the late Nina McAllister McKee.  She graduated from Iva High School and worked for Jackson Mill in Iva, where she retired.  She was a member of Iva First Baptist Church which she joined in 1955.  During her time there she served on every committee, she sang in the church choir for 40 years, she was a Sunday School teacher for 40 years, she was WMU Director for 30 years, she taught Bible School for 25 years and was the Church Training Director for 5 years. 

She is survived by one son, Pat Hall of Iva, SC; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Waymon Harley Hall, who passed away in 1997. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at 2:00 pm at Iva First Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Gray officiating.  Interment will follow at Iva City Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.

DONALD HAWKINS

August 11, 1940 – January 31, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Donald Dwight Hawkins, age 72, of 905 Bowden Road, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at his residence. 

Born in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Dwight Edward Hawkins and the late Frances Stamps Hawkins.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy serving as a Boilerman Foreman.  He began his working career at Honeywell and later worked at B.F. Shaw as a pipefitter and welder, he then worked at the U.S. Department of Energy until his retirement in 2000.  He was also skilled in A/C Refrigeration.  He was a mason and member of the I.B.E.W. and Pipefitters Unions. He was a member of Orrville Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Allen Hawkins of the home; his children, Jeffrey Allen Hawkins of Anderson, Donna Lynn Adams of Anderson, Marlene Hawkins Deslatte and her husband Gregory Louis of Orange, TX, Angie Michelle Hawkins of Anderson and Tiffany Dianne Hawkins of Anderson; a brother, Terry J. Hawkins and his wife Carole of Anderson; a sister, Judy Hawkins Hix and her husband George of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Krystal, Kamille, Sterling, Stephen, Brandon, Brianna, Jordan and Coley; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karley Breaux.

The Funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at 4:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Wendell Bannister, Reverend Michael Kinard and Reverend Joyce Murphy officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors. 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm.

GERTRUDE S. CHILDERS

January 17, 1921 – January 31, 2013 

ANDERSON, SC - Gertrude Simpson Childers, age 92, of 1011 Plantation Road, passed away at the Rainey Hospice House on Thursday, January 31, 2013.

Born in Anderson, SC she was the daughter of the late Floyd Simpson and the late Manilla Dixon Simpson.  She was a graduate of Girls High. She worked for many years at Abney Mills and later worked at Pizza Way in Anderson and Chick-Fil-A.  She enjoyed many things, among her most favorite, was making dolls, and traveling.  She was a member of the Abney Mills Traveling Club and the Liberty Life Traveling Club.  She especially loved and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. Gertrude was a member of the former Osborne Avenue Church of God and the former McDuffie Street Church of God and was presently a member of High Praises where she was a member of the choir.

She is survived by her loving husband, William Frank Childers of the home; a son, Michael “Mike” Childers and his wife, Elaine, of Anderson; a sister, Margaret S. Webb of Anderson; two grandchildren, Jon Michael “Chili” Childers, and Julie Childers; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew Childers, Michael Childers and Hope Childers.

The Funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Sustar, Reverend John Childers, Dr. Stan Childers and Mr. John Holmes officiating.  Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Reverend Roger Childers and Reverend Cecil Campbell officiating.

LEWIS McENTIRE

SANDY SPRINGS – Lewis McEntire, age 84, of Sandy Springs, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born June 25, 1928 in Cornelia, GA, he was the son of the late John Rolan and Janie Smith McEntire. He was a retired employee of J.P. Stevens in Clemson with 36 years service. Mr. McEntire was a member of LaFrance Church of God for 62 years. He faithfully served as Sunday School secretary for 50 years.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 65 years, Vernell Simmons McEntire of the home; one daughter, Landra McEntire Woody and husband, Steve; two grandchildren, Amanda Woody Bryant and husband, Chris, and Eric Woody and wife, Jennifer. The pride of his life were his great grandchildren, Cassidy Bryant, Parker Bryant, and Malachi Woody. He is also survived by a sister, Rennie Tumblin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Reeves McEntire, Lemual Burton, Henry McEntire, and Claude McEntire and four sisters, Myrtle Addis, Daisy Addison, Edith Brewer, and Burchess Gerning.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at LaFrance Church of God conducted by Rev. Robert Ayers, Rev. James Shealy, and Rev. Billy Bowman. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:50 p.m. Saturday at the church. The family is at the residence.

CHRISTLE PARKER

CENTRAL- Christle Lee Parker, 31, of 307 Norris Hwy, Central, died January 30, 2013.

Born November 16, 1981 in Anderson she was the daughter of Greg Parker and Mary White Parker. She was a graduate of Pendleton High School and was a member of Carolina Community Church. Christle cherished  her children and was a loving and devoted mother to them.

Surviving are her children, Jess and Jasmine Burrell; fiancé, Jason Burrell; father, Greg Parker of Pendleton; mother, Mary W. Parker of California; sister, Ashley Parker of Pendleton; paternal grandmother, Frances Parker, of Pendleton, maternal grandparents, Boyd & Jean White of Anderson and aunts, Angela P. Thrasher of Pendleton, Margaret Herron of Central and uncle, Tony White of Clemson. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, A. C. Parker and uncle, Gary Parker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary with Rev. John Revis officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 PM prior to the service. The family is at their respective homes.

EVELYN T. CRAWFORD

September 6, 1941 – January 31, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Evelyn Thomason Crawford, age 71 of Anderson, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Ellenburg Nursing Center. 

Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson Thomason and the late Eula Mae Harbin Thomason.  She worked at the Kroger Bakery for many years.  Evelyn was a member of Westside Church of God of Prophecy.

She is survived by her children, Randy Crawford (Angie) and Kim Haguewood (Tony, Sr.) all of Anderson, SC; a brother Larry Thomason of Walhalla, SC; and three grandchildren, Tony Haguewood, Jr., Kayla Haguewood and Grant Crawford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Glenn W. Thomason.

The Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 2:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery.

CLAUDE MARSHALL

October 30, 1925 – January 29, 2013 

ANDERSON, SC - Claude Franklin Marshall, age 87, of Anderson, SC passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his residence.

Born in Landis, NC he was the son of the late Harvey and Elsie Weaver Marshall.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre.  He was a retired Physical Science Technician working in the Oceanographic Field in the United States Defense Mapping Agency, traveling world-wide with this position.   

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Doris Duncan Marshall of the home; two daughters, Vickie Marshall Trotter of Anderson, SC and Brenda Marshall Mullen and her husband Chris of Fredericksburg, VA; a brother, Charlie Ray Marshall of Goldsboro, NC; three grandchildren, Kelly Mullen McCoy, Gregory Thomas Trotter and Jay Scott Trotter; and three great-grandchildren, Madison McCoy, Alaina McCoy and Ashley Trotter. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Bradley Michael Trotter; a son-in-law, Gerald Thomas Trotter; and a brother, George William Marshall.

The Graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Dwight Greene officiating.  

The family will gather for a time of visitation following the service.

ANGELINE GAINES

March 17, 1925 – January 29, 2013

IVA, SC - Etta Angeline Bruce Gaines, age 87, of Iva, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at her home.

Born in Iva, SC, she was the daughter of the late James William Bruce, Sr. and the late Cora Elise Sutherland Bruce. She worked at Jackson Mill and was also a bookkeeper with Jewel Brothers Furniture Store in Anderson.  Etta owned a dress shop in Iva for many years.  She was a member of the Sunrise Seniors group in Iva. She was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church in Elberton, GA but had most recently been attending Community Wesleyan Church of Iva. 

She is survived by her  husband of 67 years, John Clark Gaines of the home; a foster daughter, Etta Tiller of Iva, SC; brothers, Billy Bruce (Eleanor) of Tyron, GA; and her sisters, Willise Cheek, Geraldine Gable, Alice Willis, and Sue Butler (Raymond), all of Iva, SC; many nieces and nephews that she helped to raise; and her devoted caregiver, Renea Hanks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Powell.

The Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:30 pm at New Bethel United Methodist Church, 3223 GA-368 Elberton, GA 30635 with Reverend Allen Carmichael, Pastor Ron Rogers and Reverend Tyus Butler officiating.  Interment will follow at Iva City Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm.

LIZZIE MAE POWELL

ANDERSON, SC - Lizzie Mae Powell, age 82, of Anderson, SC passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at her home.  

Born in Rural, GA she was a daughter of the late Emmit and Maude Eubanks Willioughby.  She was a retired seamstress. She was a member of Iva Church of God of Prophecy. 

She is survived by her children, David Ayers, Edward Ayers,  Hester Van Ayers and Christine Taylor; 2 step-sons and 1 step-daughter; 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy Ayers; her second husband, Chalton Powell; sons, Robert Lee Ayers and Billy Ayers; three step-sons; five brothers and three sisters. 

The Funeral service will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Stanley Campbell officiating.  Interment will follow at Smyrna Cemetery in Lowndesville, SC.

Anderson, SC - Mr. Claude F. Marshall, age 87, of Anderson, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, January 29, 2013.
