Randolph S. Calvo, Sr. of Anderson, SC, beloved husband of Frances Trammell Calvo, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2013. Born in New York, Randy was the son of Sicilian immigrants, the late Luigi and Loreta Muscarella Calvo. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Hailing from Chicago, IL, Randy enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. Stationed at Camp Croft in Spartanburg, SC, he performed duties as a non-commissioned officer in full charge of the dental laboratory. At a USO dance at the base, he met his future wife, Frances. Love at first sight, Randy declared to a buddy, “That is the girl I’m going to marry,” and he did, and together they shared more than 70 years of married life.
Moving his young family to Anderson in 1946, Randy established Calvo Dental Laboratory which he owned and operated for over 54 years. He continued to work there on occasion into his 90’s. He was a member of the National Board of Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology, Inc., and was a past president of the South Carolina Dental Laboratory Association. A member of Central Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, Randy was active in several church related capacities. Serving as a deacon and elder, he also taught several Sunday School classes with attendants ranging in age from teenagers to seniors. Randy was an avid golfer, fisherman and bowler, and was installed into the Anderson, USBC Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame. Besides sports and his family, Randy loved and was beloved by many friends. A member of the Jimmy Ezell prayer group, he treasured these weekly meetings.
People and family were his true passion in life, and Randy never met a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew him.
