Homer R. Tucker

Belton, SC - Homer Ray Tucker, age 82, of 4415 Highway 29 N, Belton, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Walhalla, on January 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Robert Oscar Tucker and the late Viola Savage Tucker. Following his education, he worked as an optical technician employed by Carolina Optical Supply in Anderson.  After working in that field for 52 years, he retired from Southern Optical Supply of Greenville. In his spare time, Homer enjoyed collecting old cars and trains, and going to the flea market.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 47 years, Barbara Jo Anderson Tucker of the residence; a son, Oscar Ray Tucker of Belton; three daughters, Nancy Jean Standard (Bud) of Belton, Marlene Harris (Pete) of Anderson, and Patsy Burton (Mitchell) of Toccoa, GA;  also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by two sons, Baby Boy Tucker who died at birth, and Homer Joe Tucker; a daughter, Raynell Cheek, as well as several brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Harrell officiating.  The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Edgar "Buddy" Crump

Anderson - Edgar Howard "Buddy" Crump, Jr., 79, of 1628 Sandy Hollow, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born May 5, 1934 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Edgar Howard and Johnie Lee Peace Crump. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as Master Sergeant with 20 years service and later owned and operated Crump's Used Cars. He was a graduate of Tri County Technical College and was a member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association. Mr. Crump was a member of Hiram Masonic Lodge #68 A.F.M. and was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Tomlinson Crump of the home; two sons, Steven Howard Crump and wife, Janet and Michael Lee Crump; daughter, Dee Anna Sloger, all of Anderson; four grandchildren, Danielle Alexander and husband, Paul, Erica Michelle Stowe and husband, John, Stuart Sloger, Jr. and Tess Sloger; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Baba Jean Rouda. 

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Jack Couch with military honors. Private burial will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Bernice Faye Aderholt

Bernice Faye Rothlis Aderholt, age 90, of Anderson, passed away at NHC Anderson on Saturday, January 11, 2014, as a result of Alzheimer’s.  Born on November 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles Theodore Rothlis and the late Mary Bernice Gaston Rothlis.  For 45 years, she was the devoted wife of the late Virgil Leonard Aderholt until his death in 1987. 

Faye was a school teacher and church musician for many years.  She went to China, Estonia, and Germany as a volunteer Christian worker.  While in China, Mrs. Aderholt became a sponsor for a very special Chinese family who became very important in her life, June and Gao and their son.  Survivors include 3 daughters: Linda Harral and husband Coy, of Anderson, Susie Bolton and husband Bruce, of Waveland, MS, and Glynda Bowen and husband Dell; a grandson, Adrian Bolton of San Antonio, TX, a granddaughter, Connie Asad of Anderson; a great-granddaughter, Frances Phelps of Blythewood, SC; three sisters: Judy Caraway and husband, O.J., of Lakeridge, TX, Joy Manuel of San Antonio, TX, and Betty Weichert of Kerrville, TX. In addition to her parents and her husband, Virgil, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Smelley. 

There will be a memorial service held to honor the life of Mrs. Aderholt at New Hope Baptist Church in Hardy, AR, at a later date.  Interment will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery, in Highland, AR.  Local arrangements are being handled by The McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson, SC.  Tri County Funeral Home in Hardy, AR, will be serving the family in Arkansas.

James “Jim” Stephens, Jr.

Salem, SC - James “Jim” Walton Stephens, Jr., age 67, husband of Nan Peace Stephens, passed away on Friday, January 03, 2014, at his residence. 

Born in Atlanta, GA, on February 11, 1946, he was the son of the late James Walton Stephens, Sr. and the late Dorothy Turner Stephens Manning. Jim graduated from Southwest High School in Atlanta  and went on to receive a Bible degree from Toccoa Falls College.  Later, he graduated from Cornerstone University with a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Christian Counseling.  Jim was passionate about his counseling and spent most of his life helping others.  He was the Director at Crossway Ministries in Anderson for over 25 years, where he also held a Wednesday Bible study.  He was a member of the National Christian Counselor’s Association and the American Association of Christian Counselors. 

In addition to his loving wife, Nan, he is survived by his three children, Melissa Burroughs and her husband Drew, of Williamston, SC, Marcus Stephens and his wife MaryAnn, of Greenville, SC and Lindsey Laye and her husband Trevor, of Seneca, SC; a sister, Alice Cook and her husband Jim, of Douglasville, GA; Jim was “Papa” to seven grandchildren, Cameron, Skylar, Carson, Chloe, Charlie, Riley and Henry.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Butch Morrison officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories, Clemson, SC. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Martin Ford, Sr.

Belton, SC - Martin W. Ford, Sr., age 84, of Belton passed away on Saturday, January 04, 2014 at his residence.

Born in Belton, on March 2, 1929 he was the son of the late Charlie Ford and the late America “Merki” Stanton Ford.  Mr. Ford owned and operated Ford’s Body Shop for sixty years.  He was a  member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children, Martin Ford, Jr., and his wife Cathy, of Belton, SC, Willie Joyce Harper and her husband Robert, of Belton, SC., and Marion Kelly of Belton, SC., six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Willie Faye Wright Ford; brothers, John, Bill and Franklin Ford; sisters, Helen Perry and Annie Mae Pepper.

The Graveside Service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, prior to the service.

Robert M. Smith

Anderson, SC - Robert M. Smith, age 84, of Anderson, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late David Smith and the late Ollie Stone Smith.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army serving during the Korean War Conflict.  He worked at Owens Corning Fiberglas for nearly 36 years. Robert was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Annie Grace Smith and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Mack Tester and Reverend Bill Rigsby officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Anne Honeycutt

Anderson - Anne Ritter Honeycutt, age 77, of 1300 Wellwood Drive, died on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at AnMed Health Medical Center.  Born in Albemarle, NC, she was a daughter of the late E. P. Ritter and the late Mary Efird Ritter.  For 57 years, she was the loving and devoted wife of Stan Honeycutt of the residence. 

Mrs. Honeycutt attended nursing training at Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, and enjoyed a 15 year career as a school nurse for Anderson School District 5.  She was also a homemaker and an excellent and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren who she loved dearly.  Anne was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught fifth grade Sunday school for many years. 

In addition to her husband, Stan, she is survived by two sons, Terry Honeycutt and his wife, Chris, of Anderson, and Ritter Honeycutt of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; one daughter, Sissy Madden and her husband, Mark, of Anderson; 2 sisters, Edith Hamilton and husband, Dr. Frank Hamilton, of Charlotte, and Lauretta Rich of Clifton, NJ; and four grandchildren, Kinsley Bailey and husband, David, Lawes Honeycutt, Landon Madden, and McKenna Honeycutt.   

The funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Anne Honeycutt will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul Frey and Rev. Bob Carlisle officiating.  A private interment with family present will take place prior to the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at Trinity United Methodist Church following the service until 3:00 p.m.

The family requests that instead of flowers, contributions in memory of Anne be made to the Haven of Rest Ministries, 509 East Orr Street, Anderson, SC 29621, or to Mission Development Ministries, 208 Bowen Drive, Anderson, SC 29621.

Alice Margurite Higgins

Anderson, SC - Alice Margurite Higgins, age 92, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Oklahoma City, OK, on July 8, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Zalmon Bernard Higdon and the late Alice Angel Higdon.  Margurite enjoyed many things during her life.  She loved her family, animals, sports and crocheting.  She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. 

She is survived by her children, Robert Francis Higgins and his wife Cathy, of Booneville, MS, Paul Joseph Higgins and his wife Barb, of Nashville, TN, Stephen David Higgins and his wife Rita, of New Albany, IN, John Patrick Higgins and his wife Judy, of Walhalla, SC and Celeste Margurite Tienken and her husband Fred, of Anderson, SC; 12 grandchildren, Michael Higgins, David Higgins, Erin Higgins, Megan Higgins, Mandy Peirick, Kytha Emory, Chris Higgins, Lewis Higgins, Laura Richardson. Matthew Tienken, Chastidy Mere, Johnathan King; 5 great-grandchildren, Kyven Emory, Aiden Richardson, Annabelle Richardson, Paiton Higgins and Paige Higgins; and a daughter-in-law, Beth Higgins, of Florence, SC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Francis Joseph Higgins; a son, Philip Kevin Higgins; a brother, Zalmon Bernard Higdon, Jr. and two sisters, Mary Katherine Higdon and Zalita Speas.

The Funeral Service will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Friday, January 3, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. with Father Ignatius Smith, OFM officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the church on Friday, prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Lee L. Fleming

Lee Legwen Fleming, age 62, of 432 Shirley Circle, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 29, 2013, upon his death at AnMed Health Medical Center.  Born in Augusta, GA, he is the son of the late Hugh A. Fleming, Sr. and the late Nelle Legwen Fleming.  He was the loving and devoted husband of Denise Browning Fleming of the residence. 

Mr. Fleming was a mortgage consultant with Nations Mortgage in Anderson.  Lee was a loving and big hearted person who loved his church, his Lord, his family and friends.  He was a good Christian man who never met a stranger and a devoted member of Zion United Methodist Church.  He will be missed by all who knew him.   

In addition to his wife, Denise, he is survived by two sons, Reid A. Fleming and James R. Kent, both of Anderson; one daughter, Crystal K. Davis and fiancé, Ryan Gall of Anderson; two brothers, Hugh A. Fleming, Jr., and his wife, Carol, of Fredericksburg, VA, and William L. Fleming of Carol Stream, IL; also surviving are five grandchildren, 2 nephews, and a host of devoted friends who he loved dearly.  

A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Lee Fleming will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Shawn Armstrong officiating. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the Zion United Methodist Church immediately following the memorial service.

Edwin Eugene Pilgrim

Edwin Eugene Pilgrim, age 89 passed away at AnMed Health Medical Center on Saturday, December 28, 2013.  Born in Anderson, SC, Edwin was retired from JP Stevens Appleton Mill after 46 years of service.  He was a long-time and faithful member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and volunteered in the church office.  He served in the Navy during World War II.  He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by a son, Patrick Pilgrim of the home; three daughters, Beverly Jefferson of Orlando, Fl., LuAnn Owens and Amy Owens of Anderson, SC; a brother Melvin Pilgrim of Valdosta, GA; three sisters, Sara Garner of Williamston, SC, Mary Etta Alford of Belton, SC and Shelby Jean Timms of Anderson, SC; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Mary Etta Massey Pilgrim; wife, Betty Jean Freeman Pilgrim; and two brothers, Ray and Leroy Pilgrim.   

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Hunsinger officiating.  Burial will follow at Flat Rock Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The family will be at the residence.

Lucia Griffith Coates

Lucia Griffith Coates, 94, widow of James Allen Coates, died Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Seneca, she was the daughter of the late Charles Marshall and Inez Adams Griffith. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Marshall and Rudine Coates of Anderson, Rex and Judy Coates of Greenwood, and George and Judy Coates of Sanford, Florida; grandchildren, Lanna  Johnson (Adam) of Anderson, Justin Coates (Stephanie) of Houston, Texas, Rebecca Coates of Atlanta, Georgia, Kim Sanders (Rick) of Clermont, Florida, and Ricky  Ricardo (Jolane) of Candor, New York; and great grandchildren, Ryan and Katelyn Sanders of Clermont, Florida and Aurora and Pearl Ricardo of Candor, New York.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary C. Griffith and Viola G. Jarrard and her brothers, Rufus, Charlie, Frank, Bill, and Swain Griffith. 

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Curtis Bundy. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

Imogene Boykin

Dorothy Imogene Boykin, age 90, passed away at Ellenburg Nursing Center on Friday, December 27, 2013.  Born in Royston, GA, she was the daughter of the late Johnny Mack Pierce and the late Rollie Brown Pierce.  For 65 years she was the wife of the late Carlie Henry Boykin until his death in 2004.

Mrs. Boykin was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas following 35 years employment in the alloy department.  Following her retirement from Owens Corning, Imogene was an associate at the Reid-A-Book and Tobacco Shop. She was a member of the Owens Corning Retired Ladies Club.  She was of the Baptist Faith.  In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and working cross word puzzles.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Larry Boykin and his wife, Patricia, of Starr; two daughters, Sue B. Ginn, and Lynn Malloy and her husband John, both of Starr; also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carlie, Mrs. Boykin was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Kacey Vaughn and Baby Boy Williamson; five brothers, Buster, Jay, Robert, Paul and Joel Pierce; and a sister Lillie Mae Ramsey.

A crypt side service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Boykin will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Sam Duncan officiating.  The family will be at the home of Lynn and John Malloy, 123 Hayes Road, Starr, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, December 28, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
