Ida Mae Hanna

Anderson - Ida Mae Jordan Hanna, age 85, of Anderson, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at NHC of Anderson.

Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late H.T. Jordan and the late Minnie Tinsley Jordan.  She was a graduate of Girls High School and worked for many years at the Singer Plant in Anderson.  Ida Mae was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Robert Elliott and his wife Cynthia, of Anderson, SC, Ken Elliott and his wife Sheila, of Pendleton, SC and Sandra Burdette and her husband Steve of Belton, SC; brothers, James Carlton Jordan, Larry Hawkins Jordan and William P. Jordan, all of Anderson, SC; sisters, Cleo Roberts, Doris Ethridge and Barbara Wilson, all of Anderson, SC; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Stewart Elliott and her second husband, Donald J. Hanna; and two sisters. Joyce Thomason and Mildred Peace.

The Funeral will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Owen and Pastor Scott Burdette officiating.  Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home, prior to the service on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

JEWEL DEAN COLLIER HUDSON

ANDERSON - Jewel Dean Collier Hudson, age 81, wife of the late Dr. Walter C. Hudson, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston, GA.

Born in Toccoa, GA on July 23, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Thomas Collier and the late Thelma Pless Collier.  Mrs. Hudson was a homemaker and was a member of the Salem Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son; Raymond D. Hudson, Sr., (Cindy) of Anderson, SC; daughter, Diane Canapa (Mark) of Louisville, KY; daughter-in-law, Pam Hudson of Greenville, SC; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Walter T. Hudson.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Salem Baptist Church with the Dr. Charles Holland, Reverend Albert Hudson and Dr. Glenn Taylor officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will at the home of her son, Raymond D. Hudson, 2611 Whitehall Road, Anderson, SC and will receive friends on Sunday, February 16, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.

Donnie E. Chasteen

Anderson, SC - Donnie Eugene Chasteen, 67, of Anderson, husband of the late Nancy Virginia Tilley Chasteen, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at his residence.

Born May 4, 1946 in Anderson, he was the son of the late James E. Chasteen Sr. and the late Edna Meredith Chasteen. Mr. Chasteen was a United States Army veteran and was a graduate of T.L. Hanna High School. He was a retired business owner, former member of the Anderson Lions Club and was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.

Surviving are his two sons: Joshua C. Chasteen and Jason T. Chasteen both of Anderson; sisters: Clara Anderson, Geraldine Henderson, Betty Jean Whitmire, and Diane Haley and brothers: Billy Chasteen and James E. Chasteen, Jr. all of Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 Hwy 81 North with Rev. Jerry Parnell officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family will at the home of Patricia Tilley, 204 Juniper Avenue.

Frances Hill

Anderson - Frances Ophelia Cleveland Hill, 84, of Anderson, widow of the late  Marshall Robert Hill, Jr., died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born May 30, 1929 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Leland Barr "Buster" and Lestine Moore Cleveland. She was a graduate of Girls High and was retired after 20 years of service from Anderson School District 5. She was a member of North Anderson Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons: Steve Hill, of Anderson, Buck Hill and wife, Pam of Aberdeen, SD, Charley Hill of Anderson, and Stan Hill of Anderson; grandchildren: B.J. Coyle and husband, Nathan of Salisbury, NC, Parker Phillips and husband, Mark of Niamey, Niger, Jennifer Hill of Atlanta, Samuel Hill of Charleston, SC, Braiden Hill of Anderson, and Alex Hill of Anderson; and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Bill Rigsby. Burial will follow in Old Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson The family is at the home of Charley Hill.

Cathy Nixon Pierce

Clemson - Nancy Catherine Nixon Pierce, 55, wife of Charlie Pierce, died Monday, February 10, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born January 24, 1959 in Anderson, she was the daughter of Roy E. “Possum” and Carol Poole Nixon. She was owner and operator of Cakes by Shirley in Seneca.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Pierce of the home; parents, Roy “Possum” and Carol Nixon; sister, Cynthia Nixon; and a brother, David Nixon, all of Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family will receive friends following the service.

Ronnie Lee Sanders

Anderson - Ronnie Lee Sanders, age 70, passed away on February 12, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born March 29, 1943 in Anderson, SC, Ronnie was a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Sanders and the late Nora Lee Cape Sanders.  He was a member of Homeland Park Baptist Church, retired former manager of Homeland Park Water District and was the owner and operator of Ronnie’s Auto Sales also of Homeland Park.

Ronnie is survived by his sister, Pauline Burdette and her husband, Gene of Anderson, SC and a brother, Jimmy Sanders and his wife, Nancy of Belton, SC; one nephew and five nieces.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Sanders; and four brothers, Roy, Ray, Ralph, and Harold Sanders.

The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. James Strickland, the Rev. Dale Hart and the Rev. Mark Daniel officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

James Ralton King

James Ralton “Piggie” King, age 94, passed away on Saturday, February 08, 2014 at his residence. Born on August 9, 1919, in Richland, SC.  He was the son of the late Jacob Andrew and the late Mary Brewer King.

He graduated from Anderson  Boys High.  He was employed by J. P. Stevens for over 45 years, where he retired as an Electrician and Maintenance worker.  He was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.  He was an avid sports fan and was a beloved “Papa” to all his family.

He is survived by three children, Patricia King of the home, Larry King and his wife Sarah of Anderson; Nancy Smith and her husband Larry of Anderson; one sister, Irene Richard from Starr, SC;  four grandchildren, Marty King and his wife Anna, Michael King, Tammy Wood and her husband Dodd, Robin Whitmire and her husband J.; three great-grandchildren, Emily Wood, Dodson Wood, and Joseph Bryant.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the Interim Hospice caregiver, Alan Clark.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois N. King; two brothers, Clyde King and Lefty King; two sisters, Estelle King and Willie Mae Burgess.

A funeral service to honor the life of James Ralton King will he held Monday, February 10, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at the McDougald Chapel with Rev. Jeff  Bartlette, Rickie Farmer and Rev. Gordon Taylor, who will assist at the cemetery. Interment will follow in the New Silver Brook Cemetery.  The family will be at the residence.

Lou Jeanne Hanks

Lou Jeanne Roach Hanks, age 81 passed away on February 7, 2014 at her residence.  Born on January 21, 1933 in Commerce, Georgia.  She was the daughter of late J.C. “Buck” Roach and the late Irene Cotton Roach.  She was retired from textiles, having worked at Orr lyon Mills.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth S. Hawkins of Anderson, SC and Chester E. Hawkins of Anderson; one daughter, Mel D. Strockman and her husband John of Anderson; one grandchild, Calvin Esco Mann, IV; one great-grandchild, Calvin “Quinn” Esco Mann V.  Also, her beloved dogs, Willow and JuJu and her beloved cats, Marshall and Myrtle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Daritey and her second husband, Kenneth Hawkins; and one brother, Ken Roach.

A memorial service will be held at The McDougald Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.

Pete Harmon

Anderson - Lewrie Lee "Pete" Harmon III, 51, of 644 Hunters Lane, husband to Tara Daniel Harmon, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014.

Born in Longview, TX, he was the son of Lewrie Harmon, Jr. of Charleston and Pat McGaughey Harmon of Anderson. Pete was a self employed master carpenter and member of Infinity Fellowship.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was survived by his children, Jonathan Harmon (fiancé Nichole), Lauren Nix, Tyler Nix and Matthew Harmon; sister, Lori Harmon all of Anderson; brothers, Tony (Amelia) Harmon of Townville and Scott (Kim) Harmon of Walhalla; half-sister, Rebecca Harmon of Charleston and a brother-in-law, Todd Daniel of Highland, IN. Pete was preceded in death by his nephew, Elijah Harmon.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:30p.m. at Concord Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Rhinehart officiating. Entombment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at the residence.

Ray C. Grant

Ray Cullen Grant, age 83, of 535 Fair Play Road, Townville, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Rainey Hospice House surrounded by the love of his family.  Born on December 8, 1930, in Oconee County, SC, he was the son of the late Wesley Allen Grant and the late Thelma Minnie Sheriff Grant.  For 62 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Jessie Mae Kay Grant of the residence.

Following graduation from Townville High School, he proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict era.  For 34 years, Mr. Grant was employed by the J. P. Stevens Company where he retired as a Supervisor.  He was a member of the Townville Baptist Church and the Townville Masonic Lodge.  He was also a Shriner.  Among his many hobbies, he was a Boy Scout Leader as well as men’s and little league baseball coach.  Ray was an avid vegetable gardener who also enjoyed rabbit hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, Jessie Mae, he is survived by 2 sons, Danny Ray Grant (Tricia) of Sandy Springs and Brian Keith Grant (Laurie Jean Poore) of Townville; 2 daughters, Gail Grant Phillips (Mike) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Kathy Parker (Tommy) of Anderson; 2 brothers, James Grant (Judy) and Tommy Grant (Ann), both of Townville;  7 grandchildren, Corey Grant, Jessica Mayfield, Ashley Schultes, Brandon Phillips, Caitlin Phillips, Nathan Parker, and Kimberly Wright;  also surviving are 6 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by brothers Talmadge, J. W., and Wesley, Jr. Grant; sisters, Cara Simmons, Bernie Glenn, Carrie Lee Glenn, Mary Sue Panzner, Peggy Roach, and Patsy Grant.

A funeral service to honor the life of Ray C. Grant will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Townville Baptist Church, with Rev. Jim Crittendon and Mr. Wayne Whitfield officiating.  Interment will follow in the Townville Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will be at the home of Kathy and Tommy Parker, 641 LaFrance Road, Anderson, and will receive friends at the Townville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall following the service.

George Everett Ayer

Anderson - George Everett Ayer, 76, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Allendale County, he was the son of the late Gilmore Sims and Mamie Sue Cope Ayer. Mr. Ayer served in the U.S. National Guard, was a 1958 graduate of Clemson University and received a Master’s Degree from Western Carolina University.

He was a retired educator in School District #5, having taught at McCants and T.L. Hanna for 38 years. He also taught in the Adult Education Program. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Fairfax and attended Boulevard Baptist Church in Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Freeman Ayer of the home; two sons, Alan Ayer and Gregory Brian Ayer; grandson, Dalton Everette Ayer, all of Anderson; one sister, Dolores Ayer Bell of Iva; and a brother, Kenneth Ayer of Fairfax.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Johnny F. McKinney. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of Alan Ayer, 2401 Old Stone Drive, Anderson.

Joel Earle Matthews

Townville, SC - Joel Earle Matthews, 86, of Townville, formerly of Greenville, son of the late Joel Simpson Matthews and Frances Henry Matthews, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Rainey Hospice House on Tuesday, February 4, 2014.

Joel was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the Marine Corp. He enjoyed being a member of W.M. Judson Masonic Lodge #319 in Greenville, and was active with the Shriners. He owned Joel Matthews Concrete Service until his retirement. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He belonged to the Pro Bass Club of South Carolina and won the Bassmaster Classic Competition two consecutive years in the 1980s. He was of the Baptist faith.

Joel is survived by sons, Robert Matthews (Linda) of Greenwood and Robin Matthews (Denise) of Lyman; daughters, Virginia Matthews (Dewey Barefield) of Sunset, Pattie Meades (Jamie) of Sarasota, FL and Karen Oberne (Rob) of Tampa, FL; a sister, “Mickey” Moon (Lee) of Anderson; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren and a step great-great grandchild. Having a lifelong love of animals, Joel is survived by his dog, Luck, and two cats, Katie-Alice and Thomas.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Ray Martin.
