James “Jim” Stephens, Jr.
Salem, SC - James “Jim” Walton Stephens, Jr., age 67, husband of Nan Peace Stephens, passed away on Friday, January 03, 2014, at his residence.
Born in Atlanta, GA, on February 11, 1946, he was the son of the late James Walton Stephens, Sr. and the late Dorothy Turner Stephens Manning. Jim graduated from Southwest High School in Atlanta and went on to receive a Bible degree from Toccoa Falls College. Later, he graduated from Cornerstone University with a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Christian Counseling. Jim was passionate about his counseling and spent most of his life helping others. He was the Director at Crossway Ministries in Anderson for over 25 years, where he also held a Wednesday Bible study. He was a member of the National Christian Counselor’s Association and the American Association of Christian Counselors.
In addition to his loving wife, Nan, he is survived by his three children, Melissa Burroughs and her husband Drew, of Williamston, SC, Marcus Stephens and his wife MaryAnn, of Greenville, SC and Lindsey Laye and her husband Trevor, of Seneca, SC; a sister, Alice Cook and her husband Jim, of Douglasville, GA; Jim was “Papa” to seven grandchildren, Cameron, Skylar, Carson, Chloe, Charlie, Riley and Henry.
The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Butch Morrison officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories, Clemson, SC.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
