CURTIS REMSEN  

April 28, 1939 – February 16, 2010

WILLIAMSTON, SC - William Curtis Remsen, age 70, husband of Valerie Mathis Remsen, of 10 Knight Street,  died Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Valdosta, GA on April 28, 1939, Mr. Remsen was the son of the late Elsie Crown Remsen.  He served in the United States Navy and was a Technical Engineer at Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia, SC.  He was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Bobby Harvey of Anderson and a daughter, Vickie Brown of Williamston and two grandchildren, Ashley (Travis) Guthrie and Tyler McElrath, both of Williamston.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Mark Spearman.  Interment will follow in M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The family will be at the home of his daughter, 127 Crown Court, Williamston, SC.

KODEY McKAYLA HOLLEY  

ANDERSON, SC – Little Kodey McKayla Holley, daughter of Cameron Thomas Holley & Brittany Jane Wilson, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center, North Campus.  

In addition to her parents, survivors include her grandparents: Gus John Dodos & Jackie M. Dodos, and David Allen Holley & Christine Holley, all of Anderson, SC, and Tony Johnson and Katie Johnson of LaGrange, GA.

A Graveside Service will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, February 18, 2010, at the First Baptist Church Memorial Park, located in Westminster, SC.  The service will be celebrated by Father Hayden J. Vaverek.

SARA DANIEL TOMLINSON

September 5, 1914—February 15, 2010

Iva, SC- Sara Vesta Daniel Tomlinson, age 95, wife of the late Sam Tomlinson, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at NHC in Anderson.

Born in Elbert County, GA, she was a daughter of the late George Thomas Daniel and Vesta Ward Daniel. She was a retired operator with Southern Bell in Greenwood and was a member of Laurel Baptist Church, also in Greenwood.

Survivors include a brother, Clinton Daniel of Iva; sister, Nettie Mullenix of Greenville and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters, Nannie Teasley, Cecil Charping, two infant twins; brothers, Amos, Clyde, Wilson, Parker and Branson Daniel.

A graveside service will be held at 4pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Rock Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, 2150 Coldwater Road, Elberton, GA, officiated by Reverend Edward Sayer.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends an hour prior to the service, in the sanctuary of the church.

ETHEL A. MILFORD

ANDERSON – Ethel Abbie Whitfield Milford, 82, of 701 Woodvale Road, died Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born January 27, 1928 in Townville, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Abbie Gleason Whitfield. She was a sales associate with K-Mart.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly J. Sullivan and husband, Dwayne of Anderson, Lisa Milford of Iva; three grandchildren, Brandy Simmons, Justin Sullivan, and Wendy Bellew; two great grandchildren, Bryson and Ethan Simmons; and a brother, James Rufus Whitfield.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Annie B. Drake, and a brother, Leonard F. Whitfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel. Burial will be in Dickson Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary, 401 North Main Street. JOHN CREAMER

August 12, 1922 – February 13, 2010

Anderson, SC - John P. Creamer, age 87, of Anderson, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, SC on August 12, 1922, he was a son of the late C.J. Creamer and Mary Elizabeth Black Creamer. He retired from Anderson School District 5 and was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World.

Survivors include his son, Mike Creamer and his wife, Beth, of Anderson, SC; two granddaughters, Leah Rhodes and Kelley Creamer; a brother, Charles Creamer of Belton, SC; and a sister, Helen Kimbrough of Williamston, SC.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Creamer was predeceased by his wife, Jo Creamer. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, February 15, 2010 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. The funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Frank Fuller officiating. A private burial will follow.

ANN A. WILSON

CENTRAL, SC - Dorothy Ann Arnold Wilson, 71, of 610 Wilson Road and widow of John D. Wilson, died Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County a daughter of the late Adger and Sue Cox Arnold, she was a homemaker and a member of Bishop Branch Baptist Church where she served as the Pianist for many years.

Surviving are one son; Blake Wilson of Central; two daughters, Debbie Wilson of Anderson and Mitzi Wilson of Central; and one brother, David Arnold of Seneca.

Funeral services will be 3 pm Sunday at Bishop Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Luther Price officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Johnson Martin, Sr.  

ANDERSON- Johnson Benjamin Martin, Sr., 87, formerly of Pine Lane, died Friday February 12, 2010 at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born March 3, 1922 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Chesley Wyatt and Savilla Newton Martin. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran having served during World War II and Korea. He was a retired dairy farmer and member of the Slabtown Mason Lodge #233. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, Johnson B.  “Johnny” Martin, Jr. and his wife, Catherine of Liberty, daughters: Margaret M. Cothran and her husband, Jack of Anderson, and Laura Ann M. Needham and her husband, Tom of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Michael Tray Martin, Scott Cothran and Alex Needham; brother, Newton D. Martin, and sisters, Helen Martin and Ann Elizabeth Curry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Swink Martin, and a brother, Conrad W. Martin.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, February 14 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, with Rev. Royce Addis officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 PM prior to the service at the northeast chapel. The family is at the home of his daughter, Margaret Cothran, 210 Voyles Rd., Anderson.

ROY KELLY

ANDERSON – James Roy Kelly, of Knoxville, TN., formerly of Anderson, died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at UT Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.

He was born December 30, 1925 to George Pickens and Nora Sheriff Kelley of Central, SC. After graduating Central High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific front in WW II and the Korean War. In 1954, he married Hazel Marie Brown Kelly, who preceded him in death in 2007. He retired from the Ingersoll Rand Corporation in 1988. Mr. Kelly was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church and was a former member of Boulevard Baptist Church in Anderson.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet Marie Kelly of Knoxville; and a sister, Edith Kelley Durham of Pendleton.

A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, conducted by Dr. Johnny F. McKinney. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary, 401 North Main Street, Anderson.

FEBRUARY 22, 1943 – FEBRUARY 11, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Kaye Jones Sonefelt, age 66, wife of the late William “Butch” Sonefelt, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Greenville, SC, on February 22, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Bill Jones and Ann Rowland Jones.  She was a homemaker and member of the Ebenezer Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include her sons: Timothy Sonefelt and his wife, Kristie Sonefelt, and Keith Sonefelt and his, Michelle Sonefelt; four grandchildren: Kerwin, Katie, Kyle, and Kaylee Sonefelt, all of Anderson; sister, Janie Hall of Greenville, SC; and brother, Vance Jones of Phoenix, AZ.

The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 11:30 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Ron Culbertson.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home from 10am until 11am on Saturday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Ebenezer Fire Department, 1229 Due West Highway, Anderson, SC 29621.

ANDERSON, SC - Janie E. Clayton, age 91, of 226 Duckett Road, wife of the late Cleo Hiram Clayton, died February 11, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Landrum, SC on September 12, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Dock McGaha and Annis M. McGaha. Janie retired from Kemet and was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church where she attended the Young at Heart Group and the Ladies Sunday School class.

She is survived by her son, Leroy Clayton of the home; daughter, Cornelia C. Matthews of Anderson; sisters, Shirley Redden of Merrillville, IN, Ruth Wood of Columbia, SC and Irene Henderson of Simpsonville, SC.  Also surviving are three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her husband; parents; two infant daughters; four grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers.

The family will receive friends on Saturday February 13, 2010 from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm at Oakdale Baptist Church with the Funeral Service beginning at 4:00 pm. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, 224 Duckett Road, Anderson, SC.

Mrs. Hattie C. Jones

Minden,  Louisiana - Mrs. Hattie C. Jones age 69, of Minden, Louisiana died February 7, 2010 in Louisiana. She was born in Abbeville County and was the daughter of the late John and Phyllis Hamilton Clinkscales. Survivors include two sons Leroy Jones of Minden, and Jimmy Clinkscales of Belton S.C., Two sisters Ethel Mae Clinkscales and Katherine Martin, both of Anderson S.C. Three grandchildren and Two great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday February 11, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Benevolent Funeral Home Chapel, 401E. Union St., Minden Louisiana 71055. Burial will follow at the Shephard Street Cemetery.
