JAMES W. CAMPBELL

MAY 4, 1925 – FEBRUARY 20, 2010

STARR, SC – James Wilburn Campbell, age 84, of 6840 Highway 81 South, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2010.

Born in Iva, SC, on May 4, 1925, he was a son of the late Mason Campbell and Marylee Jones Campbell.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from the Singer Corporation.  Mr. Campbell was a member of Generostee A.R.P. Church.

Survivors include his wife, Olga Lois Young Campbell; children: Linda Hall and husband, Ronny of Easley, SC, James Wilburn Campbell, Jr., and wife, Lorraine of Anderson, SC, and Joyce Stuart and husband, Roy of Anderson, SC; brother, Jones Campbell of Iva, SC; sister, Martha Calvin of Seneca, SC; four grandchildren: Stacey Campbell, Lisa McIntosh, Amy Bolt, and Chris Campbell; two step grandchildren: Tyler Stuart and Trent Stuart; six great grandchildren and one step great grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Campbell; sister, Florence Callahan; and brothers: Lee Campbell, Barney Campbell, Aaron Campbell, and Orr Campbell.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 1:30 pm until 3:15 pm on Monday, February 22, 2010.  A Graveside Service will follow at 4 pm at South Lawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Reverend Dr. Jack Couch.

Claude Mattison Hawkins

July 14, 1919- Feb 20, 2010

Anderson - Claude Mattison Hawkins, age 90, dedicated father and loving husband of the late Caroline M. Hawkins, of 1302 Bryant Road, died Saturday February 20, 2010, at Richard Michael Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, Anderson, SC.

Born in Anderson, July 14, 1919, Mr. Hawkins was the son of the late Charley Mattison Hawkins and Lola Belle Ashley Hawkins. He served in the United States Army as a Tech Sergeant from 1940-1945, and in the 42nd Rainbow Division while in Europe. He was a lifelong farmer and carpenter for more than fifty years in the Long Branch Community, where he owned and operated a sawmill with the help of his sons, brothers, nephews and friends. He was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, and choir member.

Survivors include sons: George Allen Hawkins and his wife, Mary Jane S. Hawkins; Phillip “Lane” Hawkins; Frank McDavid Hawkins; and John William Hawkins and his wife, Janis M. Hawkins; all of Anderson. Daughter: Claudianna H. Todd and her husband, Gordon Todd of Omaha, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; Brother: Charles Reuben Hawkins; Sisters: Dorathy Creamer, Margaret Kay and Edith Vann.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by brothers:  Lanson “Jake” Hawkins, Clarence Howard “Red” Hawkins; Warren “Shane” Hawkins; Leo “Bill” Hawkins;

James Robert “Rob” Hawkins; Sisters: Lucia Jones, Cleo “Tiny” Wood; and Granddaughter Anna S. Hawkins.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 11:00 am at Long Branch Baptist Church officiated by the Reverends Dr. Don F. Wilson and Wayne A. Watson. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

JANE H. MOORE

JULY 12, 1929 – FEBRUARY 20, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Jane Hammett Moore, age 80, wife of the late John M. Moore, Sr., passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2010.

Born in Anderson, SC, on July 12, 1929, she was the daughter of the late George Pierce Hammett and Rosa Lee DeBerry Hammett.  She was a graduate of Anderson Girl’s High School and Winthrop College.  Mrs. Moore was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and was a member of the Anderson Woman’s Club. 

She was an avid bird watcher and also enjoyed traveling to the mountains to admire wildflowers.  Even though she lived widely throughout the United States, she was happy to return home to Anderson in 1982. She loved her family dearly – especially her three grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: a son, John M. Moore, Jr., and wife, Caroline V. Beeland of Charleston, SC; a daughter, Elizabeth L. Moore of Chapel Hill, NC; and a daughter, Deborah Moore Slice and husband, Stephen Slice of Lexington, SC, and their children, David Slice, Benjamin Slice, and John Slice.  She is also survived by her brother, George P. Hammett, Jr., and wife, Icey Longshore Hammett of Belton, SC.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Old Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by the Reverend Fran Elrod. 

The family is at the residence, 130 Victoria Circle, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 5pm until 7pm on Monday, February 22, 2010.

ROY BOZEMAN

MAY 16, 1917 – FEBRUARY 19, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Leon Roy Bozeman, age 92, of 2414 Northview Avenue, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Home.

Born in Tyty, GA, on May 16, 1917, he was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Bozeman.  He was decorated U.S. Army Veteran having served in World War II.  He retired from the insurance industry after thirty-five years of service.  Mr. Bozeman was a charter member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Chris Bozeman and wife, Lynne Y. Bozeman; daughter-in-law, Pat Bozeman; two grandchildren: Doug Bozeman and Leisel B. Sargent and husband, Mike Sargent.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-six years, Myrl G. Bozeman; a son, Gerald D. “Jerry” Bozeman; and three sisters.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Pope Drive Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Bill Rigsby.   Interment with Military Honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

MARY JO DEAL

September 17, 1933 – February 18, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Mary Jo James Deal, age 76 of Anderson, wife of the late William “Bill Deal, died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Lincolnton, GA on September 17, 1933, Mrs. Deal was a daughter of the late Robert Harold James and Bessie Gunter James.  She was a graduate of Girls’ High School and retired from Anderson Mill.  She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include her sisters, Mildred Whitt and Juanita J. Jackson and brother, Haskell James, all of Anderson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Johns and Annie Ruth Reed.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

MICHAEL FARNSWORTH

ANDERSON- Michael Arnold “Ted” Farnsworth, 48, of 1701 Old Williamston Rd., died Thursday February 18, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born April 3, 1961 in Memphis, TN he was the son of Bevington H. Farnsworth and Joyce Lott Farnsworth.  He was an airline Captain for FedEx and was a Board Member of the Outdoor Dream Foundation and the founder of Human Performance Group, LLC. He was a member of NewSpring Church.

Surviving are his wife, Jane Hanvey Farnsworth of the home, daughters: Victoria Farnsworth of Jackson, TN, Caitlin Robinson of Anderson; sons: Jimbo Robinson, and his fiancé, Mary Morgan Johnson and Alex Robinson all of Anderson; mother-in-law, Mary Louise Hanvey all of Anderson; brother, Stephen Farnsworth of Memphis, TN and special son, Cory Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday at NewSpring Church conducted by Pastor Perry Noble. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM Saturday at the Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 North. The family is at the home.

DORIS STASNEY

March 27, 1932 – February 18, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Doris Maebelle Head Stasney, age 77 of 2107 Woodside Avenue, wife of the late Harold Stasney, died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at her residence.

Born in Anderson County, SC, she was a daughter of the late James Marvin Head and Edith Melissa Durham Head.  She worked for many years at Orr Mill, Riverside Mill and Wamsutta Mill.  She enjoyed many crafts including flower arrangements.  Mrs. Stasney was a member of Fants Grove Baptist Church. 

Survivors include her sons, John Edward Stasney of Sumter and Michael Rudolph Stasney of Westminster; brothers, Bobby Head of Texas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Lucas and two brothers, Joe and James Head.

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Ted Capps and the Reverend Jerry Durham. Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

JOHN T. McKINLEY  

ANDERSON- John Thomas McKinley, 77, of 167 Life Style Lane, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born May 22, 1932 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Marvin Deo and Nellie Louise Hopkins McKinley. He was a US Navy veteran having served during the Korean War. He was Plant Engineer with Foundry and Steel and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sarelle E. McKinley of the home, sons: Roger McKinley and his wife, Jacque, of Wilson, NC, Tommy McKinley and fiancée, Kathy Boone of Anderson and daughter, Kerri Treffeisen and her husband, Paul of Anderson; grandchildren: Amanda Wood, Abbie McKinley, Christina Lanthier, Brianna Shaver, Jonathan McKinley, Brandi McKinley, Briana Treffeisen and Cade Treffeisen, 4 great grandchildren; brothers: Carl McKinley of Pensacola, FL and Don McKinley of Anderson; and sisters: Peggy Hopkins (Toddy) of Anderson, Juanita Richardson of Anderson, Joan Bagwell (Bill) of Taylors, and Judy Clark (Steve) of Belton and close friends, Jerry and Sarah Williams.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Drs. Glenn Taylor and Wendell Bannister officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday at the northeast chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 North.

ALVIN BRYANT

 March 15, 1930 – February 17, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Alvin Lee Bryant, age 79, of 407 Bowen Street, husband of the late Joyce Wicker Bryant, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC on March 15, 1930, Mr. Bryant was a son of the late William Burris Bryant and Jessie Rowland Bryant.  He was a United States Army veteran and earned a Business Degree from Carolina School of Commerce.  He worked for many years at Southside Mill and Appleton Mill.  Mr. Bryant was a vendor at the Anderson Jockey Lot for over 20 years.

Survivors include his daughters, Cathy Shaw and her husband Rick Shaw and Debra Cowan and her husband David Cowan all of Anderson; five grandchildren, Jason Shaw, Heath Cowan, Jarrod Cowan, Dana Gerrard and Thomas Gerrard.  Two great-grandchildren; Dustin Gerrard and Rylee Cowan and a sister, Mary Louise Bryant of Anderson, also survives.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Gale Gerrard; granddaughter, Jaime Shaw and three brothers, Pete, Joe and Donnie Bryant.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Brent Lollis.  Entombment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

ANDERSON, SC – Judy Ann Blaine Gaillard, age 70, of 110 Holly Ridge Drive, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.

Born in Greenville, SC, on October 1, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles Mason Blaine and Nannie Lee Jones Blaine.  She was a graduate of Chicora High School in Charleston, SC, and was a 1960 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina’s School of Nursing.  Mrs. Gaillard was a retired Registered Nurse and was past President of the South Carolina Medical Auxiliary.  She was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church where she was active in the Women’s Mission Group.

Survivors include her children: son, Dr. Charles Lawrence Gaillard and wife, Eva Maria Freeman Gaillard and their son, Charlie Blaine Gaillard, all of Honea Path, SC; and son, Ray Blaine Gaillard and wife, Michelle Lynn Kimball Gaillard and their children: Griffith Blaine Gaillard, Cassidy Raye Gaillard, and James Mitchell Gaillard, all of Chapin, SC.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, the late Dr. Walter Lee Gaillard.

A private funeral service conducted by Dr. Paul Talmadge will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  A private committal service conducted by Dr. Johnny F. McKinney will be held in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm on Friday, February 19, 2010.

ANDERSON – Edith Johnson Dickson, 77, of Anderson, wife of Harold L. Dickson, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at her home.

Born April 7, 1932 in Fair Play, she was the daughter of the late Henry Clive and Maggie Lucille Herring Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of Fants Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Harold L. Dickson; two sons, Michael Ray Johnson and wife, Pat of Honea Path, and Steven H. Farmer and wife, Karen of Central; three grandchildren, Joseph Michael Johnson, Kelly Farmer Black, and Andrew Steven Farmer; four great grandchildren, Evan Clive Johnson, Paige Johnson, Alexis Johnson, and Jaxson Black; two stepsons, Edgar Dickson of Anderson, and Kenneth Dickson of Spartanburg; and a stepdaughter, Gail Gurley of Anderson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Clive Johnson, and a sister, Jeanene J. Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Edward Bryson. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. BETTY S. JOHNSON

ANDERSON – Betty Sanders Johnson, 79, of 102 Cedar Pond Road, widow of Bobby R. Johnson, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born June 17, 1930 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Albert Luther and Ethel Pruitt Sanders. She served as office manager of Gene Anderson’s Department Store. Later, she and her husband owned and operated Bobby Johnson’s Market. Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Presbyterian Church. 

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Applewhite and husband, Brad, and Lynn Hollis and husband, Glen, all of Anderson; four grandchildren, Hannah and Joshua Applewhite, Hayes and Andrew Hollis; brother, Charles Sanders of Anderson; and a special aunt, Lillian Pruitt of Anderson. A sister, Martha Tucker Vickery, preceded her in death. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. James M. Rice and Rev. Early Tucker. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the residence, 102 Cedar Pond Road, and from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the residence.
