HALEY DANIELLE BURNS

September 30, 2004 – February 10, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Haley Danielle Burns, age 5, died February10, 2010 at her residence.

Born in Anderson, SC on September 30, 2004, Haley was a daughter of Gerrard Burns and Kristy Thomason. She is survived by her brother, Caleb Burns; sister, Adrianna Thomason; maternal grandparents, Randy Thomason and Mary Cole and her fiancée, Larry Kyle and paternal grandparents, Mary Clemmons and Richard Burns.

Haley considered herself as a princess, especially, after being granted her wish from The Make a Wish Foundation to visit Disney World last year.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Wayne Watson.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 6 pm until 8 pm.

BEATRICE MCLESKEY

October 29, 1914 – February 9, 2010

MORRISVILLE, NC - Beatrice Turner McLeskey, age 95 of 104 Madres Lane, wife of the late John McLeskey, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at the Wake Medical Hospital in Cary, NC.

Born in Franklin, GA, she was a daughter of the late John Turner and Minnie Turner.  “Bea” was a self-employed seamstress and enjoyed needlework. She was a member of North Anderson Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. While in North Carolina, she attended Good Hope Baptist Church and was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class in Cary, NC.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Rogers and her husband, Bruce of Morrisville, NC; sister, Mary Rhodes of Pendleton; one granddaughter, Lindsey Rogers-Seitz of Wilton, CT and two great-granddaughters, Kaylyn and Riley Seitz. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one brother and two sisters.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 11:00 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park officiated by the Reverend Bill Rigsby with the family receiving friends immediately following the service.

ROY WILLIAM FIELDS

February 8, 1924 – February 10, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Roy William Fields, age 86, husband of Zelpha Manning Fields of Brook Forest Drive, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at his residence.

Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Floyd Cleveland Fields and Emma Cornelia Griffin. He was a POW during his service in the United States Army in World War II. He was a recipient of  two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star Award.  He retired from BASF and was a life member of the D. A. V. and Hiram Masonic Lodge #68.  Mr. Fields was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church where he was a member of the Happy Warriors Sunday School class as well as past Deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, R. Steven Fields and his wife, Linda of Clemson, SC; daughter, Cheryl F. Clardy and her husband, Dendy of Anderson, SC; four grandchildren, Michael Clardy, Allison Callahan, Brooke Fields and Haley Smith and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Noon in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Tom Owen.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard and with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. The family will be at the residence.

PAULINE B. MOORE

ANDERSON – Pauline Barnette Moore, 89, formerly of Highway 187 North, widow of George Samuel Moore, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at NHC of Anderson.
Born July 21, 1920 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Edrew and Ethel Williams Barnette. She was an employee of LaFrance Industries for a number of years and retired from Cheney Brothers in Pendleton. Mrs. Moore was a member of Barnette’s Grove Emmanuel Holiness Church.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Bell Bowen and Lottie Jones and two brothers, Hubert D. Barnette and H.B. Barnette.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Bob Hicks. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the mortuary following the service. Family members are at their respective homes.

RAYMOND VANDERMAR

November 28, 1934 – February 8, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Raymond Jack Vandermar, age 75, of 123 Glen Arbor Drive, died Monday, February 8, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born November 28, 1934 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Jacob and Margaret Mason Vandermar. He was a retired building and grounds superintendent with the Campbellsport, Wisconsin School System, an avid Nascar racing fan and enjoyed traveling.

He was a loving husband and father and is survived by his wife, Joan Jenne Vandermar, whom he married in Chicago, IL in 1956; sons, Scott (Rosalba) Vandermar of Woodbridge, VA and Kenneth (Linh) Vandermar of Athens, GA; daughters, Catherine and Janet Vandermar of Anderson; grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Tai, and Quynh Vandermar; sister, Margaret (John) Gruchot of Orland Park, IL and brother, Arthur Vandermar of Evergreen Park, IL. He was loved very much and will be missed.

MARY WELBORN  

WILLIAMSTON – Mary Elizabeth Welborn, 87, of Red Fox Boulevard, died Monday, February 8, 2010 at her residence. 

Born February 7, 1923 in Iva, she was the daughter of the late George and Rosa Lee Terry. She was reared in the home of her grandparents, Alfred and Etta Bridges. She was a homemaker and member of Iva First Baptist Church. 

Surviving are her 2 daughters, Mary Ann Todd of Williamston and Elizabeth “Liz” Ferguson of Anderson; 3 granddaughters, Donda Joy Goffe, Angel Dawn Padua and Donna Annette Johnson; 3 great grandchildren, Candice Boling, Brandon Probst and Tony Padua; brother, James Terry of Pelzer and sister, Sadie Beason of Gastonia, NC. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. 

Graveside service will be held at 11am Thursday at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Brandon Probst, Luis Padua, Brandon Crowe, Travis Kelly, Brandon Bashaw and Jerry Johnson serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 until 10:45am at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at the residence.

JUNE 28, 1955 – FEBRUARY 8, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Theresa P. Cobb, age 54, of 4801 Great Oaks Drive, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Greenville, SC, on June 28, 1955, she was a daughter of Virginia W. Ray and the late Ernest Everett Parks.  She was a graduate of T. L. Hanna High School and was employed by Phil Jeweler’s for over thirty-seven years.  Mrs. Cobb was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.  She was an avid reader and puzzle enthusiast.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of nearly thirty-eight years, Dennis Cobb; son, Danny Cobb & wife, Susan of Pendleton, SC; one granddaughter, Kaytie Anna Cobb; sisters: Cindy Pruitt & husband, Hal of Sandy Springs, SC, and Nancy Plummer & husband, Robert of Bloomington, IN; a brother, Michael Parks of Liberty, SC; an uncle, C.F. Whitlock, Jr., of Liberty, SC; a sister-in-law, Patty Martin of Pennsylvania; and brothers-in-law: Thomas Bolt of Charleston, SC, and Chris Cobb & wife, Nell of Walterboro, SC.  She is also survived by friends, Keith Mills, Jim and Teresa Meeks as well as many loving friends, loyal customers, and all of Mr. Silverstein’s “Jewels”.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Dr. Tony Smith.  Interment will follow in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Reverend Dr. Luther Price.

Iva, SC - Mr. Jessie Leemon “Bubba” Nichols, Jr., age 59, husband of Deborah Jean Brock Nichols, of 2322-B Parker Bowie Road, died Sunday, February 7, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Jessie L. Nichols, Sr. and Maude G. Haguewood Nichols and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of the home; daughters, Pamela White and Carey Proctor, both of Iva; brothers, Calvin and Earl Nichols, of Anderson and Harold Nichols of Pelzer; sisters, Mildred Paul of Anderson and Gertrude Shiflett of Iva.

He was predeceased by a brother, James Nichols.

A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Gethsemane Baptist Temple officiated by Reverend Sam Duncan.

ANDERSON, SC – Alice Brady Dunlap, age 90, wife of the late J.D. Dunlap, Jr., and formerly of Gadsden Square, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2010.

Born in Atlanta, GA, on February 4, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Bruce Brady and Lillie Mable Cox.  She was formerly employed by Henderson Shoes and Anderson Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Dunlap was a member of Young Memorial A.R.P. Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan D. Merchant and husband, Dr. Vernon Merchant; her grandson, Charles Kenneth Singleton and wife, Lori and their children Sabrina & Preston; her grandson, James David Singleton and fiancé’, Sherry Newcomer; and her grandson, Max B. Singleton and wife, Stacee and their children Taylor, Jordan, Ashelon & Bryson.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Young Memorial A.R.P. Church, conducted by the Reverend Dr. H. Neely Gaston. Interment will follow in Old Silver Brook Cemetery.

ANDERSON, SC -- Frances Marie Gentry Smith, age 76, wife of Joseph Olin Smith of 209 Peartree Lane, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 4, 2010.

Born in Anderson County, SC on November 7, 1933, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late John Harrison Gentry and Lois Craft Gentry.  She retired from Dow Badische after many years of service. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that loved the Lord.  She was a member of Middleton Road Baptist Church

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children:  Peggy Maney Harbin and her husband, Olin of Anderson; Kathy Maney Craft and her husband, Billy of Starr; David Smith of Abbeville; stepsons, John Walter Smith and Larry Olin Smith and his wife, Frances of Anderson; brothers, William Gentry of Anderson, Preston Gentry of Pendleton, Randy Gentry of Walhalla; sisters, Edna Mullikin, Bobbie Nimmons and Diane Garland, all of La France; seven grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild.

LOUISE M. WILLIMON

JUNE 23, 1914 – FEBRUARY 7, 2010

BEAUFORT, SC – Mrs. Louise McClure Willimon, of Beaufort, SC, previously of Clemson, SC, died at her home in River Oaks Assisted Living, in Beaufort on February 7, 2010.

A daughter of Elizabeth Bee McClure and Clifton Moody McClure, she was born on June 23, 1914, in Anderson, SC.  She was predeceased in 2000 by her husband of 63 years, Eugene Perritt Willimon, a native of Greenville, SC; and in 2001 by their son, Eugene Perritt “Rusty” Willimon, Jr. She was also predeceased by five brothers: Tom, Cliff, Charles, Gene and Paul McClure; and one sister, Mary McClure Busby.

Mrs. Willimon is survived by her daughter, Louise “Weezie” Willimon Gibson and husband, Jim of Beaufort, SC, and their children: Josh Gibson and Elizabeth O’Brien and husband, Joe; her daughter-in-law, Patricia “Patsy” Godwin Willimon of LaGrange, GA, and her children: Richard Willimon and his wife, Laura, Lisa Moody and husband, Leon, Angie Cosper and husband, Chip, Cindy Serson and husband, Taylor, and Cliff Willimon and wife, Kristen; and seventeen great-grandchildren: Jefferson and Warren Gibson, Emmett and Nora O’Brien, Elizabeth, Evelyn, and Rich Willimon, Ashlee, Drew, Logan, and Peyton Moody, Kendall, Christian, and Henry Cosper, Gabriel and Hollis Serson, and McClure Willimon.  She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Alice Willimon von Stein of Brevard, NC.

Mrs. Willimon, who was a member of the Clemson United Methodist Church, lived in Clemson from 1950 until moving to Beaufort, SC, in 2001.  During those years she was active in numerous aspects of Clemson University life, especially activities involving Clemson Athletics and the Clemson IPTAY Club of which her husband was Executive Director from 1950 until 1977 when he retired.  In 1988, she was honored as the Tiger Brotherhood Mother of the Year.  She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader.  She was the owner and director of “Happy Time School”, a pre-school for 3 and 4 year old children for many years.  As a volunteer at Clemson Downs Health Center, she was instrumental in recruiting 130 volunteers. She was a member of the Clemson Women’s Club, Clemson Garden Club, Edith Cooper Book Club, Anderson Senior Assembly, the Psi Kappa chapter of Chi Omega Sorority at Clemson University of which she was a founding member and advisor for many years. The Chi Omega Chapter at Clemson has established the “Lou Willimon Leadership Award” given annually to a Senior Member of Chi Omega. 

Mr. and Mrs. Willimon also established and donated the “Clemson University Annual Outstanding Athlete Award.”

Services will be on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, with a 1:00 pm Graveside Service at Old Silver Brook Cemetery, Anderson SC, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 pm at the

Madren Center at Clemson University, Clemson, SC. Officiating will be Bishop William H. Willimon and Reverend Jack W. Gibson.

JOHN PASCHAL BETHUNE, JR.  

BETHUNE, SC -- John Paschal Bethune, Jr., formerly of Bethune, SC, died in San Francisco, CA, on January 15, 2010.

He was the son of the late Katie Mays Bethune and John Paschal Bethune, Sr. He is survived his sisters Mary Bethune Hoffman and Carolyn Bethune Leone; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, his sisters preceded him in death: Frances Bethune McCaskill, Jean Bethune Huey, and Johnsie Bethune Watts.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday February 14, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Bethune Presbyterian Church, Bethune, SC. Inurnment will follow in the Old Scotch Cemetery, Bethune, SC.
