EARLINE LEDFORD

 May 21, 1954 – March 3, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Corda Earline Lunsford Hanks Ledford, age 55, formerly of Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Hart Care Center in Hartwell, GA.

Born in Oconee County, SC on May 21, 1954, Mrs. Ledford was a daughter of the late Roy W. Ledford and Martha Sanders Ellenburg Ledford.  She retired from the Waffle House and Skin’s Hot Dog Restaurants and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pendleton.

Survivors include her daughters, Ann Campbell, Marie Zehr and Judy Zehr of Anderson and Tammy Mitchell and her husband Drew of Bradenton, FL; six grandchildren, Kassidy Long, Breanna Campbell, Garrett, Gavin and Grayson Mitchell and Carly Zehr.  She is also survived by her siblings, Julius Ellenburg of Franklin, NC, Mary Goodwin,  Tippy Lunsford and Martha Foster, all of Anderson, Martha Dill of Pendleton and Dale Filipink of Fountain Inn.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donnie Hanks; son, John Henry Lunsford; sisters, Ann Shead, Rosie Wood and Spidell Smith and brothers, Bill and Robert Ellenburg.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Pendleton officiated by the Reverend Courtney Krueger.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will be their respective homes and will receive friends at the First Pendleton Baptist Church on Saturday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am.

ETHEL LAMB

October 15, 1933 – March 1, 2010
 
BELTON, SC - Ethel Leona Crain Lamb, age 76, of 1311 Stringer Road, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.
 
Born in Highlands, NC on October 15, 1933, Mrs. Lamb was a daughter of the late Loyde “L.E. ” Eldridge Crain and Elsie Leona Vinson Crain.  Mrs. Lamb had worked in the restaurant business for many years, having worked in West Virginia before returning to Anderson.
 
Survivors include brothers, Julian E. Crain of Anderson and Tom Crain of Chicago, IL; sisters, Edith Putnam, Patricia Crenshaw and Peggy Carey, all of Anderson and Carol Stone of Atlanta.
 
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Dennis Crain.
 
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 1:00 pm at New Silver Brook Cemetery.

VIRGINIA C. HOMOL

MARCH 27, 1948 – MARCH 1, 2010
 
ANDERSON, SC – Virginia Celina Homol, age 61, beloved wife of Edward Homol, Sr., of Anderson, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010.
 
Born in Fall River, MA, on March 27, 1948, she was a daughter of Roland Longchamp, a World War II Veteran, and the late Imelda St. Onge Longchamp.  She was stricken with illness her entire life.  Mrs. Homol passed away peacefully at her home with her husband of 43 years by her side.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
 
Survivors include her husband, Edward Homol, Sr; children: Robin Fisher of Belton, Edward Homol, Jr. of Anderson, Cindy McGee of Anderson, and Tina Capell of Anderson; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and four sisters.
 
The Funeral Mass will be at 12 noon Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church celebrated by Father Hayden J. Vaverek. Entombment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

LEONARD TAYLOR

June 28, 1935 – March 2, 2010
IVA, SC - Leonard Taylor, age 74, husband of Sara Robinson Taylor of 202 Project Road, passed away on Tuesday, March 02, 2010 at his residence.
 
Born in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Floyd Taylor and Viola Davis Taylor.  He was a well-known and trusted painter in the Anderson and Iva areas.  He especially enjoyed decorating his home for Christmas.
 
Survivors include his wife of the home; children, Vickie Snow and her husband, Ricky of Iva, SC, Brad Taylor and his wife, Sally of Lowndesville, SC and Tim Taylor of Iva, SC; brothers, Aubrey and Jimmy Taylor and sister, Shelby Erwin, all of Anderson, SC; five granddaughters, Jessica Driver, Jennifer Black, Amber Snow, Brayden Taylor and Gracie Taylor; five great-grandchildren, Jarrett, Jaylyn, Logan, Caden and Lane.
 
He was predeceased by a brother, Calvin Taylor.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Iva, officiated by the Reverend Jerry Gray.  Interment will follow in Iva City Cemetery.
 
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  Mr. Taylor will be placed in the church at 1:00 pm on Thursday.

ELLEN ALBERT

August 25, 1920 – February 25, 2010
 
ANDERSON, SC - Ellen Joseph Albert, age 89, wife of the late Nanan Albert, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Ellenburg Nursing Center.
 
Born in Trinidad, she was daughter of the late Ramkallia Joseph.  She moved to the United States in 1995 from San Fernando, Trinidad and was a member of Iva Church of God.  She was a homemaker.
 
Survivors include her sons, Dr. Frederick Albert and Lionel Albert, both of Canada, Russell Albert of PA, Cecil Albert of Anderson, Charlie Albert, and Steve Albert both of Iva; daughter, Elsie Pelkey of Orlando, FL; 33 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
 
She was predeceased by three children, Ivy Bhagoutie, Raymond Albert and Arnold Albert.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Iva Church of God officiated by the Reverends Gene Graham and Sam Mathura.  Mrs. Albert will be laid to rest at Paradise Cemetery in Trinidad.
 
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, March 4, 2010 fro 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Mrs. Albert will be placed in the church at 2:00 pm on Friday.

BOB SHOEMAKER

OCTOBER 10, 1922 – MARCH 1, 2010
 
ANDERSON, SC – Robert Victor Shoemaker, age 87, of 501 Broadwater Circle, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center.
 
Born in Flushing, NY, on October 10, 1922, he was a son of the late Henry Shoemaker and Una Vinton Shoemaker.  He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the European Theater under General Patton’s Third Army in World War II.  He was honorably discharged from the Army earning honors including the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He went on to complete a thirty-year career in Law Enforcement in New York. He retired at the rank of Sergeant with the Nassau County Police Department. While a resident of Garden City, NY, he served as President of the Western Property Owners Association. He then moved to Anderson, SC where he was an active member of the Anderson Mid-Day Lions Club for over twenty years, serving as President for two years.  He was also a member of the Carolina Cycle Riders Club for over twenty years, being their oldest active member.  He was a beloved family member and friend, talented poet, and an eternal story teller who always had a sense of humor.
 
Survivors include his wife, Andréa Brown Shoemaker; two daughters: Kathleen Gwen Mulz and husband, John Michael Mulz of China Grove, NC, and Roberta Ann Gerard and husband, Michael James Gerard of Newark, DE; brother, Donald R. Shoemaker of Las Vegas, NV, sister, Elizabeth Kinzel of Davie, FL; five grandchildren: Jennifer Michelle Mulz, John Robert Mulz, Daniella Gabrielle Gerard, Christian Michael Gerard, & Jonathan Emilio Gerard; and one great grandson, Charlie Desmond Mulz.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 5, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by the Reverend Dr. Jack Couch.  Military Honors will be rendered by Fort Gordon. 
 
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, March 4, 2010.

JAMIE GUNTER

JUNE 5, 1964 – MARCH 1, 2010
 
ANDERSON, SC – James Ralph Gunter, age 45, of 1011 Cove Circle, passed away at his home on March 1, 2010.
 
Born in Anderson, SC, on June 5, 1964, he was a son of Sylvia Patterson Gunter and the late Mac Gunter.  He was a graduate of Westside High School and was employed by Robert Bosch Corp.
 
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Crystal Y. Strickland, of the home; a brother, Trad Gunter of Walhalla, SC; a sister, Crystal Gunter of Anderson, SC; a great-grandmother, Myrtle Gunter of Elberton, GA; and an uncle & aunt, Melvin & Barbara Pepper of Salisbury, NC.  Two nephews and three nieces also survive him.
 
The Funeral Service will be at 4 pm on Thursday, March 4, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Dr. Jack Couch. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
 
The family is at the home and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, from 5pm until 7pm.

Jimmy Ray Lollis

Anderson, SC- Mr. Jimmy Ray Lollis, WD4BUH, age 57, of 4 Harris Street, died at his home on February 25th.
 
He was a son of the late William and Gertrude Devall Lollis.
 
Surviving are: sister, Janice Walters; brother, Jackie Lollis; several nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Lollis.
 
A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at New Silver Brook Cemetery officiated by Les Shattuck. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

JOSEPH M. HOLAHAN, JR.

MAY 19, 1917 – FEBRUARY 24, 2010
ANDERSON, SC – Joseph Myles Holahan, Jr., age 92, husband of the late Katherine Englert Holahan, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at NHC Healthcare of Anderson.
 
Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, on May 19, 1917, he was the son of the late Joseph Myles Holahan and Florence Kelleher Holahan.  He served in the United States Army National Guard, was a 1939 graduate of Manhattan College, and retired from True Temper as an Industrial Engineer. Mr. Holahan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was a founder of the Hilltoppers and was formerly active within the Knights of Columbus. For many years he was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
 
Survivors include his children: Christine Turner of Charleston, SC, Cathleen LaFave and husband, Jim, of Hickory, NC, Donald Francis Holahan and wife, Joanne, of Geneva, OH, Leo Andrew Holahan and wife, Julie, of Covington, GA, and Thomas A. Holahan and wife, Kimberly, of Anderson, SC; a sister, Ursula Holahan of Charleston, SC; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
 
In addition to his parents & wife, he was predeceased by a son, Joseph M. Holahan, III; and a sister, Audrey Stenson.
 
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 5, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church celebrated by Father Aubrey McNeil, OFM.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.
 
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, March 4, 2010, from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.  A Prayer Service will follow at 7:30 pm conducted by Father Hayden J. Vaverek.

Dr. Don Garrison

Dr. Don C. Garrison, 75, of Easley, SC, died Saturday, February 27, 2010, after a brief illness at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Smith Garrison, of the home; one son, Major Donnie R. Garrison and his wife, Cheryl and grandsons, Bolt and Bryant Garrison, of Easley. His mother, Vera M. Garrison of Pickens; two brothers, David Garrison and wife, Ruth, of Pickens and Dan Garrison and wife Linda of Easley.

Dr. Garrison was born in Liberty, SC, son of Vera Medlock Garrison of Liberty and the late Ernest Casper Garrison. In addition to his father, Dr. Garrison was predeceased by his niece, Lynn Garrison, of Pickens.

He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Furman University and Doctorate from Duke University.

Dr. Garrison was President of Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton, SC, from November 1971 through June 2003. In 2002, the Tri-County Technical College Commission recognized Dr. Garrison by naming the Pendleton campus in his honor.

In his early years in education Dr. Garrison was Head Coach at Palmetto High School, Assistant Football Coach at Pendleton High and Easley High. He also served as Interim President, Vice President, Dean of Allied Health Sciences, and Evening Dean at Greenville Technical College, Greenville, SC from 1963-1971.

Dr. Garrison was President of the Aerospace Education Foundation (AEF), Washington DC, from 1981-1984. He was named as a Gen. Jimmy Doolittle Fellow and a Lt. Gen. Ira Eaker Fellow for his service to AEF. His many state and national honors included the Air Force Association's Medal of Merit in 1984. He established the first memorial in SC to those who served in the Vietnam war, served as Chairman of the Board of the S.C. Military Family Care Association, and was active with the 263rd Army Air and Missile Defense Command Family Readiness Group, Anderson S.C..

He was awarded the Order of the Palmetto and the Order of the Silver Crescent by the Governor of South Carolina. He received the A. Wade Martin Award from the SC State Board for Technical Education and the Marie Y. Martin Administrators Award and the President of the Year Award by the American Association of Community College Trustees.

Dr. Garrison will be remembered as a fervent Christian, Deacon and Sunday School teacher. At the time of his death, he was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and the Inspiration Bible Fellowship Class.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00PM Monday at Robinson Funeral Home- Powdersville Road.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Drs' David Gallamore and John Adams officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Cecil Whiten

April 9, 1928 – February 27, 2010
 
Anderson, SC – Roy Cecil Whiten, age 81, of 1303 P & N Drive, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the AnMed Medical Health Center.
 
Born in Toccoa, GA, Cecil was the son of the late Charles Avery “Charlie” Whiten and Ethel Martin Whiten. He served his country in the Army Air Corp. during WWII.  He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas after thirty years of service.  He was a Mason as well as a Shriner and a member of Eureka Baptist Church.
 
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Whiten Adams and her husband Joe, of Taylors, SC.; two grandchildren, Laura Adams and Army Specialist, Ryan Adams.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou “Peggy” Butler Whiten; brothers, Lewis Whiten, Charles  “ Frog” Whiten, Hurbert Whiten, Ralph Whiten, Don Whiten, and sisters, Veneeta Smith, Dorothy Cooper, Rachel Walden.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Eureka Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Robert Dickard and Reverend Dr. Ron Fousek.  Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by Campbell Patriots Post 184.

Herbert “Bill” Johnson

August 12, 1936—February 28, 2010
 
Anderson, SC-Mr. Herbert “Bill” Johnson, age 73, husband of Celia Scott Johnson, of 200 Fairlane Drive, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
 
Born in Belton, he was a son of the late Harry Lee Johnson and Nellie Ann Black Johnson Vaughn.  He was retired from Anderson County Road Maintenance and was a member of High Praises Church of God. “Bill” was also the program coordinator and athletic director for The Salvation Army Boys Club from 1959-1966.
 
Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Deron Johnson and his wife Krista of Anderson; daughter, Pam Johnson Lowe and her husband Ronald Lowe, Jr. of Anderson; four grandchildren, Tyler Lowe, Amber Johnson, Brittany Lowe, and Courtney Johnson; two brothers, Carl and Gordon Johnson, both of Anderson.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Johnson.
 
The funeral service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at High Praises Church of God officiated by Reverend Chris Sustar. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
 
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends from 6pm-8pm on Tuesday at The McDougald Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson will be placed in the church at 12 Noon on Wednesday.
