ANDERSON, SC – Robert Victor Shoemaker, age 87, of 501 Broadwater Circle, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center.
 
Born in Flushing, NY, on October 10, 1922, he was a son of the late Henry Shoemaker and Una Vinton Shoemaker.  He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the European Theater under General Patton’s Third Army in World War II.  He was honorably discharged from the Army earning honors including the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He went on to complete a thirty-year career in Law Enforcement in New York. He retired at the rank of Sergeant with the Nassau County Police Department. While a resident of Garden City, NY, he served as President of the Western Property Owners Association. He then moved to Anderson, SC where he was an active member of the Anderson Mid-Day Lions Club for over twenty years, serving as President for two years.  He was also a member of the Carolina Cycle Riders Club for over twenty years, being their oldest active member.  He was a beloved family member and friend, talented poet, and an eternal story teller who always had a sense of humor.
 
Survivors include his wife, Andréa Brown Shoemaker; two daughters: Kathleen Gwen Mulz and husband, John Michael Mulz of China Grove, NC, and Roberta Ann Gerard and husband, Michael James Gerard of Newark, DE; brother, Donald R. Shoemaker of Las Vegas, NV, sister, Elizabeth Kinzel of Davie, FL; five grandchildren: Jennifer Michelle Mulz, John Robert Mulz, Daniella Gabrielle Gerard, Christian Michael Gerard, & Jonathan Emilio Gerard; and one great grandson, Charlie Desmond Mulz.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 5, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by the Reverend Dr. Jack Couch.  Military Honors will be rendered by Fort Gordon. 
 
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, March 4, 2010.
 
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to the Anderson Mid-Day Lions Club, Post Office Box 13155, Anderson, SC 29624.
