LENORA RUSSELL CURRY

JULY 18, 1918 – JUNE 20, 2010

ANDERSON, SC -     Lenora “ Pug” Russell Curry, age 91, died in Anderson, on June 20, 2010.

Born July 18, 1918, in Sumter, SC, she was a daughter of the late Samuel O. Russell and Blanche Register Russell. She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Furman Curry.  In 70 years of marriage, the couple’s only separation was during World War II.  Bob was in the Army and served in France, Germany, and England.  Pug and daughter Anne stayed with the Russell family in Florence, SC during that time.

Primarily a homemaker, Pug also did bookkeeping for her husband’s company, Carolina Optical Supply.  She was an active member of the First Baptist Church.  She was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed the game until her death.

In addition to her husband, Pug is survived by her children, Anne Dement of Raleigh, NC and Robert Curry Jr. of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren, David Murray of San Francisco, CA and Shawn Murray of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Ethel Wright of Greenville, SC and Margy Holliday of Galivants Ferry, SC; three great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law; and two sisters-in-law. 

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and a brother, Samuel Russell, Jr.

A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 11:30 am, at Springwood Cemetery, Greenville, SC conducted by Reverend Dr. James R. Thomason.

The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to: Anderson First Baptist Church, 307 S. Manning St., Anderson, SC 29624; or Meal on Wheels, 105 South Fant St., Anderson, SC 29624.

SHERMAN THOMAS MCLANE

DECEMBER 21, 1932 – JUNE 18, 2010 

ANDERSON, SC – Sherman Thomas “ Tommy” McLane, age 77, husband of Ruby Nell  Bray McLane, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 18, 2010.

Born on December 21, 1932, he was a son of the late Dewey Lee McLane and Jessie Mae Ashworth McLane. He retired from the Murray Cookie Company and also worked for Merita Bread Company.  He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son; Hubert L. McLane and his wife, Gloria; daughters, Martha Diane Wheeler and her husband, Tharrell, and Kathy Dove and her husband, Duane; brothers, Douglas, Herbert, and Roger McLane; sister, Barbara Odom; nine grandchildren, Lisa, Kim, Brad, Brent, Tommy, Scott, Brandon, Matthew, Jacob; twenty-one great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. 

He was predeceased by a grandson, John Thomas McLane.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at New Prospect Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Dr. Tony Smith and Reverend Tom Turner.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, June 21, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

MONTEEN G. ARFLIN

OCTOBER 16, 1933 – JUNE 17, 2010 

SANDY SPRINGS, SC – Monteen Gray Arflin, age 76, wife of the late Joe S. Arflin, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at North Pointe Assisted Living.

Born October 16, 1933, Monteen was a daughter of the late Thomas Samuel Gray and Birdie Owen Gray.  She retired with 50 years of service from the textile industry and was a faithful member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church.

Survivors include her two sons: Gary Arflin and his wife, Tracy, of Benton, AR, and

Ronald Arflin and his wife, Cheryl, of Boynton Beach, FL; brothers, Tommy and Sammy Gray; sisters, Mary Black, Gail Richie, and Jackie Black; five grandchildren; Amy Currie, Joey Arflin, Stephanie Williams, Christopher Arflin, and Michael McConnell, and two great-grandchildren, Delaney and Ethan.

She was predeceased by her daughter; Melissa McConnell; brother James Gray and a sister, Joan Simpson.

The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 21, 2010, at Mount Tabor Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Danny Gray.  Interment will follow in Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 20, 2010.

Richard Anthony Cannarella

ANDERSON- Richard Anthony Cannarella, 69, of Long Needle Way, entered into Heaven on Thursday June 17, 2010 at his residence.

Born May 28, 1941, he was the son of the late Thomas Haskins and Rose Martino Cannarella. He was a retired aeronautical engineer and technical writer and was known to many as the “Born Again Baritone”. He was a dedicated and loving husband and dad, an evangelist and gospel singer.  He and his wife of 47 years, Judy, moved to Anderson six years ago from New Jersey and have enjoyed southern living with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Judith Riccitelli Cannarella of the home; son, Richard Tom Cannarella and his wife, Carol of N. Plainfield, NJ; daughters, Debi Lynch and her husband, Frank and Vikki Paese and her husband, Kevin all of Anderson; grandchildren: Benjamin and Nathanael Cannarella, Joshua and Kayce Leigh Paese and Erin Joy and Brandon Lynch and sisters, Cecelia and RoseMary.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm Saturday June 19, 2010 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Mr. Larry Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 PM prior to the service.

The family has requested that any donations be made through Gideon Memorial Bibles available at the service.

ANN HOLLIDAY

ANDERSON – Ann Seawright Holliday, 74, of Anderson, wife of Charles W. Holliday, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born August 16, 1935 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Lillian Hewin Seawright. She retired as Director of Medical Records at AnMed Health Medical Center with 43 years service. She was a member of the American Medical Records Association. Mrs. Holliday was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church and the Esther Sunday school class. She was a devoted and faithful Gamecock Fan and was a member of the Gamecock Club. 

Survivors include her husband, Charles W. Holliday of the home; son, Douglas Lee Holliday and wife, Melissa of Anderson; two grandsons, Andrew Holliday and Jordan Holliday; granddaughter, Lindsay Doyle; and a sister, Betty Hughes and husband, Hurman of Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Tom Owen. Burial will be in M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of Betty and Hurman Hughes, 2512 Warren Drive, Anderson.

MILDRED AYERS

ANDERSON – Mildred Collins Bryant Ayers, 82, of 3228 Abbeville Highway, wife of Willis Samuel Ayers, died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at her home. 

Born May 5, 1928 in Pendleton, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Pearl Collins Bryant. She was a homemaker and a member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Willis Samuel Ayers of the home; daughter, Brenda Faye Ayers of the home; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; brother, Truman Bryant of Greenville; and sisters, Evelyn Crum of Easley and Mary Faye Terrill of Hampton, VA.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Willis Edgar Ayers, Casey O. Ayers, Sr., and Van S. Ayers.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Varennes Heights Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Kurt Mitchell and Rev. Weldon Sellers. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, 401 North Main Street, Anderson. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday. The family is at the residence.

RAY WACTOR

ANDERSON- William Ray Wactor, 75, of Anderson, died June 12, 2010 following a brief illness.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy Wactor and two daughters: Nan Tompkin and husband, Adrian and Lisa Gunter of Greer. He was a devoted “Buck” to his four grandchildren, Drew Sherard and his wife, Ashley, Callie Sherard, Maloy and Cameron Gunter. He was a proud great grandfather to Drew’s son, Avery. He is also survived by a sister, Autie Smoak of Orangeburg and her three children: Kathy, Jeff and Mark.

Ray grew up in Orangeburg, SC where his parents operated a general store. He graduated from Orangeburg High School and was a 1957 graduate of Clemson College with a Chemical Engineering Degree. He left the engineering field to become a creative and meticulous homebuilder. He built a legacy of beautiful homes and happy homeowners around the Atlanta Athletic Club and other areas of north Fulton County and suburban Atlanta.

Ray was a dedicated Clemson fan, golfer, pipe smoker, formidable card player and the king of crossword whizzes, a Rotarian and a lover of the beach and good steaks. He will long be remembered for his rendition of “Oh, Lord, It’s Hard to be Humble”. It was his devotion to his wife and daughters and their families that clearly identified him. A longtime member of the Atlanta Athletic Club, he leaves behind many cherished friends there and elsewhere.

Ray and Nancy lived in Habersham County, Georgia for 12 years. Since moving to Anderson in 2007, they have been faithful members of Grace Episcopal Church.

A gathering to celebrate Ray’s life will be held at Grace Episcopal Church from 12:00-1:30 PM Wednesday June 16, 2010 with a memorial service to follow at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 711 S. McDuffie St., Anderson, SC 29624 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

DIANE McABEE

DECEMBER 18, 1950 – JUNE 14, 2010

ANDERSON, SC –Beverly Diane McAbee, age 59, wife of the late William Andrew McAbee, Sr., passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010.

Born in Greenwood, SC, on December 18, 1950, she was a daughter of the late Jones Turpin and Emily Abney Turpin.  She was a homemaker. 

Survivors include her children: William Andrew McAbee, Jr., Beverly Twinkle Kay, and Leila Michelle Torress.  She is also survived by five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 17, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

MARY LOUISE HOLLEY

NOVEMBER 30, 1931 – JUNE 12, 2010

IVA, SC – Mary Louise Tate Holley, age 78, of 206 Project Road and wife of the late W.C. “Dub” Holley, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County on November 30, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Marion Leon Tate and Willie Mae Vickery Tate.  She was a graduate of Iva High School. Mrs. Holley retired from Bigelow Sanford in Calhoun Falls and also retired from the Iva Branch of the Anderson County Library System.  She was a member of First Wesleyan Church of Iva.

Survivors include her children: son, Leon Holley and wife, Denise B. Holley, of Anderson; son, Tommy Holley and wife, Susan M. Holley, of Pickens; one grandson, Jeffrey Tate Holley and wife, April Holley; two great granddaughters: Autumn Floyd & Amalyn Holley.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the Iva City Cemetery conducted by the Reverend Phil Keown.

The family is at the home of Leon & Denise Holley, 103 Spanish Wells (located in the Cobbs Glen Community), Anderson, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on June 14, 2010.
