ANDERSON, SC – Shirley Faye Sellers Brown, age 72, of 2909 Plainview Road, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Madison County, GA, on July 20, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Monnie Sellers and Lillie Mae James Sellers. She retired from Wellington Mill and was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Edward Brown, of the home; children: Debra Loftin and husband, Terry of Jacksons Gap, AL, Glenda Cobb and husband, Chad of Anderson, SC, Tony Brown and wife, Jean of Hartwell, GA, Otis Brown and wife, Loretta of Hartwell, GA, and Susie Beard and husband, Johnny of Royston, GA; sister, Monnie Mae Brown Rice; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Hatchell; sister, Reverend Eunice Smith; and brothers: Weldon Christian, Florence Christian, Carris Christian, J.T. Christian, and Howard Sellers.
The Funeral Service will held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, in Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Sam Duncan and the Reverend Brent Lollis. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family is at the home of Chad & Glenda Cobb, 600 Colonial Place, and will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, June 28, 2010, at The McDougald Funeral Home.

ANDERSON, SC – Jerry Earl Poole, age 69, of 2904 Birch Street, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 26, 2010.
Born in Anderson, SC, on October 10, 1940, he was the son of the late D.A. Poole and Edna Powell Poole. He graduated Anderson Boys’ High School and attended Tri-County Technical College. He served in the United States Navy. Mr. Poole was the former owner & operator of Poole’s Grocery Store. Following his retirement, Electric City Transit employed him. In earlier years, he was a South Carolina Highway Patrolman. He was a member of First Perpetual Baptist Church, located on Highway 24. He was a dedicated husband, cherished father, grandfather, & great grandfather, who had a very strong faith and loved his family dearly.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Sheron Denese Carter Poole, of the home; children: Kim Summers and husband, Jeff of Anderson, SC, Lisa Hunt of Anderson, SC, and Jeff Poole and wife, Rhonda of Pendleton, SC; sister, Shirley Lovinggood of Elberton, GA; seven grandchildren: Deidra Mull, Jessica Dunn Bagwell, Mikal Hunt, Molly Hunt, Shelley Crotts, Tyler Poole, and Carter Poole; three great grandchildren: Kaden Mull, Emma Hunt, and Noah Bagwell.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Mike Hunt.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at First Perpetual Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Julien Crowe and the Reverend Randy Phillips. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
It is suggested that memorials be made to the Building Fund of First Perpetual Baptist Church, 3213 Hwy 24, Anderson, SC 29625.

LOWNDESVILLE, SC – Aaron Michel Powell, age 15, of Lowndesville, died suddenly on Friday, June 25, 2010. He was born July 26, 1994, at the Navel Hospital in Charleston, SC.
During his short life here on earth, Aaron enjoyed life immensely. It was the quality of the life he lived and not the quantity that will be remembered by all who knew this young man.
Aaron was an avid hunter, fisherman, and shotgun shooter. He truly loved the outdoors and he loved working the family farm. Aaron was a hard worker who took pride in all things that he did.
Aaron was a rising 11th grader at Dixie High School. He was a member of the National Beta Club, the Vice President of the FFA, and was an A-B Honor Student. Aaron was also a member of the Abbeville County 4-H, Rocky Knoll Sporting Clay Gun Club, the Elbert County Gun Club, and the Elbert County Claybuster Shotgun Team.
Aaron was preceded in death by a great grandfather, Delma “Geechi” Powell, of Lowndesville; and great grandparents: Melving & Lena Barto of Pennsylvania.
Aaron is survived by his loving parents, Michael & Bridget Powell; a brother, Alex Powell, all of the home; paternal great grandmother, Doris Powell of Lowndesville; grandparents: Robert C. “Tater” Powell & Sara Powell of Iva, Clara Brown Gaines & James A. Gaines of Starr; maternal grandfather, Boyd Barto of Lowndesville; uncles, aunts & cousins: Ken Powell and wife, Donna, and their children, Jacob & Drew of Lowndesville, Jeff Barto and wife, Charlotte and daughter, Haliegh of Pennsylvania, John Barto, Patrick Barto, Rebecca Barto, and Brian Barto, all of Pennsylvania.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Truth Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will follow on the Family Farm. The Dixie High School FFA as well as the Elbert County Claybuster Shotgun Team will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
The family is at the home and will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, June 28, 2010, at Truth Tabernacle Baptist Church.

ANDERSON, SC – Miss Alexandria Hope Carver, age 15, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010, at Greenville Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia. Her loving family surrounded her.
Alex was diagnosed with leukemia in July of 2009, and was truly a fighter. She had recently completed Lakeside Middle School and was eagerly waiting her freshman year at Westside High School. Her love for her many friends, her Facebook supporters, driving her new car, and fishing were some of the things she enjoyed most. Best of all, the love she shared for her family and that her family returned to her --- meant the world to Alex.
She is survived by her parents, Butch & Stephanie Feltman Carver, of the home; her loving sister, Ashley Williams Campbell and her husband, Brad Campbell; and her grandparents: Donnie Feltman, Ricky & Gail Whited, and Raymond & Elizabeth Carver, all of Anderson, SC.
The Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, June 27, 2010, at New Prospect Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Jack Couch. Interment will follow in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by Dr. Tony Smith.

ANDERSON- Fred Richard “Rick” Chasteen, 53, of 125 Old Emerson Bridge Rd., died Thursday, June 24, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born January 6, 1957 in Anderson he was the son of Mary Jane Coffee and the late Fred Chasteen. He was a carpenter and a member of The Tabernacle of the Lord.
Surviving are his son, Shannon Chasteen and his wife, Hannah of Abbeville; daughter, Hope Arnold and her husband, Jonathan of Anderson; stepson, Tracy Addison and his wife, Sharon of Toccoa, GA; mother and step-father, Jane and David Coffee of Anderson; step-mother, Carolyn Chasteen of Anderson; grandchildren: Brent and Ty Chasteen, Gracie Pierce, Gage and Brayden Arnold, Amber Addison Irvin and Cody Beebe ; sister, Tina Chasteen of Lavonia and brother, Terry Chasteen of Anderson. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dakota Blume; stepson, Jody Addison and sister, Tonya Tamara Chasteen.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, June 27 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Brother Luke Gibson, Rev. Jerry Gray and Rev. Roy Ethridge officiating. Interment will be in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM Saturday at the mortuary. The family will be at the home of his mother, Jane Coffee, 73 Hidden Cove Lane, Iva.

IVA, SC – Marshall Whitfield Townes, age 90, of 2732 Elberton Highway, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010.
Born in Anderson County on September 2, 1919, he was a son of the late James Webster Townes and Agnes Terry Townes. He was a graduate of Iva High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. While serving in the First Armored Division, he fought in North Africa, Italy, and Germany. Mr. Townes retired from Orr Mills and was a member of Union Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2008, Ollie McAlister Townes; and his brothers: Randolph Townes and Hubert Townes; and his sister, Bessie Townes Cook. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and dear friends, Marcus & Alice Campbell.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6pm until 8pm on Friday, June 25, 2010.

ANDERSON – Sandra Elaine Pettigrew Gibson, 59, of 1300 Providence Church Road, wife of John Gibson, Jr., died Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born July 23, 1950, in Anderson, she was the daughter of Virginia O’Neal Pettigrew and the late Walter M. Pettigrew, Jr. She was a retired customer service representative and member of First Baptist Church of Anderson.
Surviving are her husband, John H. Gibson, Jr., of the home; daughter, Angie Probst and her husband, Will; son, Walt Hart and his wife, Denise; mother, Virginia Pettigrew and sister, Jenny Lynn Britt and her husband, Boyd, all of Anderson.
Memorial services will be held at 11 am Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Pastor Ken Whitt officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 am prior to the service at the Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N.
The family is at the home of the mother, 1104 Broadwater Drive.

ANDERSON, SC – James Hammett “Bubba” Lyons, age 59, of 201 Cumberland Way, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House.
A lifelong resident of Anderson, Mr. Lyons was a son of the late John Joseph Lyons, Jr., and the late Mary Ann Hammett Lyons. He was a graduate of T.L. Hanna High School and attended Anderson College. He also served in the United States Army. As a fourth generation textiles employee, he was associated with the Orr-Lyons Mill, the Chiquola Plant, as well as Wamsutta Mill. He was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church in Anderson. A lover of the sport of golf, he was affiliated with the South Carolina Golf Association and a member of the Anderson Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam Tollison Lyons, of the home; their daughters: Mary Anna Harris Lyons & Jaime Hammett Lyons, both of the home; and Miriam’s children: a daughter, April Whitten Mason and her husband, Worth Mason, and their daughter, Lauren Mason; a son, Joseph Derek Whitten and his wife, Dana Whitten, and their sons: Jacob Whitten & Drew Whitten, all of Anderson, SC.
Additionally, he is survived by his two brothers: John J. Lyons, III, and wife, Barbara Lyons, of Anderson, SC, and Martin A. Lyons and wife, Anne Lyons, of St. Louis, MO; and his three sisters: Gay Haley and husband, Bill Haley, of Atlanta, GA, Lee Lyons of Highlands, NC, and Andrea Cannell of Bluffton, SC.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 25, 2010, at Grace Episcopal Church, conducted by The Reverend Susan Hardaway. Interment will follow in Old Silver Brook Cemetery.

ANDERSON, SC - Sara Ethel Jarrard Roberts, age 98, formerly of Shawnee Drive, wife of the late J. T. Roberts, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2010 at Willow Creek Nursing Center in Iva.
Born in Hall County, GA on October 18, 1911, Mrs. Roberts was the daughter the late James Henry Jarrard and Lou Ella Anderson Jarrard. She retired from Abney and Toxaway Mills and was a member of Orrville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her two daughters, Shelby Philyaw and her husband, Laverne and Lou Venturella and her husband, John; son, James Thomas Roberts and special friend, Robin Rosenberg; all of Anderson; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Wendell Bannister. Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.
The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the funeral on Wednesday.

PENDLETON, SC - Roy “Cowboy” Calvin Duncan, age 80, husband of Annie Weldon Looney Duncan of 842 Crouch Drive, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2010 at his residence.
Born in Oconee County, SC on August 5, 1929, Mr. Duncan was a son of the late Bruce Cannon Duncan and Lillie Treadway Duncan. He was a United States Army Korean War veteran and was a member of the American Legion. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas after 34 years of service as a supervisor and was a member of Fants Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Duncan was an avid baseball player and played with the Textile League for several years.
He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Carol Duncan Ridgeway and her husband Randy and their son, Ryan Ridgeway, of Greenville; stepchildren, Jerry Looney of Easley, Judy L. Parks and her husband, Frank of Pendleton, Jane Sonnier and her husband, Brian of Lake Jackson, TX, and Jackie Kelley and her husband, David of Westminster; six step-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Gurley Duncan; brothers, Ansel, Howard, Paul (Mutt), DeWitt, Joe, Woodrow and Charles Duncan and sisters, Alma D. Swaney and Eloise Terry.
The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Fants Grove Baptist Church officiated by the Reverends David Kelley and Edward Bryson. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens in Clemson.

ANDERSON, SC – Dr. Samuel Thompson Haddock, age 80, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2010.
Born in Anderson, SC, on December 19, 1929, he was a son of the late Dr. & Mrs. Samuel Harvey Haddock. Dr. Haddock graduated from Anderson Boys’ High School, the McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN, the University of North Carolina, and Emory University. He completed his residency at Vanderbilt University. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Sanctuary Choir. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Anderson; a founding member of the Cardinal Racquet Club; and a member of the Anderson County Medical Society. Dr. Haddock practiced pediatrics in Anderson for fifty years.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Huddleston Haddock; and their children: a daughter, Ellen Haddock Chandler and husband, James Chandler, of Potomac, MD; son, Dr. William Haddock and wife, Karen Haddock, of Thousand Oaks, CA; son, Dr. Samuel Thompson Haddock, Jr., and wife, LeAnne Haddock, of Dallas, TX; and sister, Nan Haddock Drew of Anderson, SC. He was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: Julia Chandler, Grace Chandler, & Sam Chandler of Potomac, MD; William Haddock & Anna Haddock of Thousand Oaks, CA; and Laney Haddock & Thompson Haddock of Dallas, TX.
He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Julia Haddock; and his brother, Bill Haddock.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, conducted by the Reverend Dr. Sinclair Lewis.
The family is at the home, 104 Carter Oaks Drive, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 22, 2010.
