THERYL W. MULLINAX

JULY 3, 1936 - JUNE 12, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Theryl Williams Mullinax, age 73, of 5722 Highway 187, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC, on July 3, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Lee Williams and Corrie Barnett Williams.  She was a child-care provider for twenty-five years and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby A. Mullinax, of the home; children: Diane Mullinax Watkins & husband, Robert Watkins; and Dale Mullinax & wife, Sandra Hix Mullinax; two grandchildren: Ashley Mullinax & Amanda Mullinax, all of Anderson, SC.

She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters: Lee Sanders and Billie Ross; and two brothers: Cecil Williams and Clinton Williams.

The Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Larry Pearson, the Reverend Gordon Taylor, and the Reverend Ron Pressley. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family is at the home of Robert & Diane Watkins, 5721 Highway 187, Anderson, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 3:30 pm until 4:30 pm on Tuesday, prior to the service.

MARY LOUISE HOLLEY  

NOVEMBER 30, 1931 – JUNE 12, 2010

IVA, SC – Mary Louise Tate Holley, age 78, of 206 Project Road and wife of the late W.C. “Dub” Holley, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County on November 30, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Marion Leon Tate and Willie Mae Vickery Tate.  She was a graduate of Iva High School. Mrs. Holley retired from Bigelow Sanford in Calhoun Falls and also retired from the Iva Branch of the Anderson County Library System.  She was a member of First Wesleyan Church of Iva.

Survivors include her children: son, Leon Holley and wife, Denise B. Holley, of Anderson; son, Tommy Holley and wife, Susan M. Holley, of Pickens; one grandson, Jeffrey Tate Holley and wife, April Holley; two great granddaughters: Autumn Floyd & Amalyn Holley. 

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the Iva City Cemetery conducted by the Reverend Phil Keown.

The family is at the home of Leon & Denise Holley, 103 Spanish Wells (located in the Cobbs Glen Community), Anderson, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on June 14, 2010.

HAROLD R. McELRATH

FEBRUARY 28, 1929 – JUNE 11, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Harold Roland McElrath, age 81, of 3518 Chipwood Drive, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2010.

Born in Anderson County on February 28, 1929, he was a son of the late Grenn Berry McElrath, Sr., and Pearl Whitt McElrath.   He retired after twenty years with the United States Navy and also was employed as a Chef, a textiles employee, and an employee of Owens-Corning Fiberglas. 

Survivors include his wife, Helen Whitten McElrath, of the home; sister, Bonnie Beebe, of Anderson; and brothers, Doug McElrath and John R. McElrath, both of Anderson.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Jean McElrath and a brother, Grenn Berry McElrath, Jr.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 14, 2010, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

The family is at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 13, 2010.

MAY 4, 1923 – JUNE 10, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Fannie Marjorie “Beatie” Whitworth Farmer, age 87, of 503 Wentzky Road, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2010.

Born in Franklin County, GA, on May 4, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Paul Harrison Whitworth and Beulah Stovall Whitworth. She retired from Ryobi Motor Products and was of the Baptist faith. 

Survivors include her children: a son, James “Duner” Farmer and wife, Janet; daughters: Shelby McCoy and husband, L.C., Joyce Moore and husband, Jimmy, Susan Peace and husband, Larry, Deborah Hart and husband, O.O., and Sandra Farmer, all of Anderson, SC; daughters-in-law, Leathia Farmer and Judy Farmer, both of Anderson, SC; brothers: Shelton Whitworth of Lavonia, GA, and Carl Whitworth of Canon, GA; sisters: Linda Whitworth, Wynelle Price, and Jeanette Bagwell, all of Lavonia, GA, Dolly Mosely  and Pauline Norris, both of Eastonalle, GA, and Elnorie Holbrook of Hartwell, GA; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, James Monroe Farmer; two sons: Tony Farmer and Paul Farmer; and brothers: Dizzie, Furman, Charles, and Denver Whitworth.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 13, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Saturday, June 12, 2010.

IKE BRISSEY

ANDERSON – Isaac Mercer Brissey, 64, of Anderson, husband of Diane Drew Brissey, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010.

Born October 26, 1945 in Greenville, he was the son of Billie Brissey Robertson and the late Isaac Mercer Brissey. He was a graduate of Furman University and received a Masters Degree from the University of Georgia. Mr. Brissey was currently the Deputy Director of Anderson County Emergency Services. He was a member of Hopewell Fire Department where he had served as Chief and had been honored as Fireman of the Year. He was former President of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in founding the Anderson Touchdown Club and Leadership Anderson. He was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church and taught the Workers in Whitefield Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Brissey of the home; son, Ryan Brissey of Greenville; two daughters, Keri Brissey of Panama City, FL and Sarah Brissey of Hilton Head; and his mother, Billie Robertson of Greenville.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dianne Brissey and Patricia Brissey Lollis.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Whitefield Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Charles Strickland and Rev. Rob White. The family will receive friends at the church family life center following the service. The family is at the residence.

ANDERSON – Betty Jean Trotter Glenn, 78, formerly of 228 Brookforest Drive, wife of James W. Glenn, Jr., died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at NHC of Anderson.

 

Born January 4, 1932 in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Nathaniel and Ida Ruth Long Trotter. She was a homemaker and a member of Young Memorial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Glenn was a Charter member and Past President of Anderson Does Drove 220 and served as State President in 1974.

 

Survivors include her husband, James Glenn of The Legacy of Anderson; daughter, Gina G. Caldwell of Liberty; son, Brian Keith Glenn and wife, Lisa of Anderson; grandchildren, Chase Caldwell and Chance Caldwell of Liberty; great grandchildren, Trenton and Kayleigh Caldwell; sister, Linda Day of Charlotte, NC; and a brother, Larry N. Trotter of Virginia.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. L. Thomas Richie. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of Keith and Lisa Glenn, 744 Marshall Avenue, Anderson.

November 22, 1919 – June 8, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - John Albert Smith, age 90, of 3000 Plainfield Drive, husband of the late Inez Murphree Smith died Tuesday, June 08, 2010, at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Mr. Smith was a son of the late Grover Smith and Emma King Smith.  He was born in Walhalla, SC, and retired from Orr Mill.  He was a World War II Veteran serving in the United States Army and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his children, Yvonne Moore and her husband, Billy; Michael Smith and his wife, Marcia; Dennis Smith; six grandchildren, Travis Pettigrew, Holden Smith, Lindsay Busha, Jessica See, Casie Smith and Matthew Smith, along with eight great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jamie L. Smith; brother, Lee Roy Smith and two sisters, Maebell Smith and Sarah Cobb.

The Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 11, 2010, at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Scott Taylor.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

ANDERSON, SC - Betty Brown Jones Sharpe, age 83, of 311 Simpson Road, died Wednesday, June 09, 2010, at Anderson Place. 

Born in Lanett, AL on March 12, 1927, Mrs. Sharpe was a daughter of the late Clyde Whitehill Brown and Helen Nolan Brown.  She was a graduate of Auburn University and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Anderson where she had served as an Elder. She was honored as a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Women.  

Survivors include her children, John Ben Jones, III and his wife, Anita of West Point, GA; Jenny Jones Hair and her husband, Miles of Elizabethtown, NC, Nancy Jones McGregor and her husband, David of Anderson, SC and Reverend David Whitehill Jones and his wife, Carrie of Nashville, TN; step-son, Robert George Sharpe and his wife, Sherry; step-daughters, Nancy Nettles and her husband, Gene of Spartanburg, SC and Melanie Covington of Anderson, SC.  Also surviving are ten grandchildren; eleven step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, John Ben Jones, Jr., and second husband, Robert George Sharpe; two brothers and one sister. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 11, 2010 at 10:00 am at First Presbyterian Church of Anderson officiated by Reverend Dr. Dennis R. Tedder and Reverend David W. Jones.  Burial will follow at 4:00 pm EST at Lafayette City Cemetery, Lafayette, AL.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Nancy McGregor, 2603 Saxony Drive, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, June 10, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

JAMES T. DANIEL, JR.

July 4, 1926 -  June 5, 2010 

ANDERSON, SC – James T. Daniel Jr., age 83, of Woodfield Drive, died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Honea Path, SC, he was a son of the late James T. Daniel and Tabbie Jenkins Daniel.  He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force.  He was formerly associated with Flowers Industries and MacDonnell Exterminating.  He was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church since 1965, where he had served as a deacon and a member of the Happy Warriors Sunday School class.  He was also a former member of the Anderson Lions Club. 

Survivors include his wife, Millie Thrasher Daniel; a daughter, Lindy Daniel Hill and her husband Glen, of Anderson; brothers, Curtis “Buck” Daniel and David “Jack” Daniel both of Williston, SC; sisters, Creabelle Reeves Griffin, of Lula, GA and Hazel Fields of Honea Path, SC; three grandchildren, Jamie Hill Simpson and her husband Jason; Monica & Jessica Poore and two great-grandchildren, Elisia and Zaylie.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Daniel Poore; a brother Alvin Daniel; and two sisters, Louise Arflin and Glenola Evatt.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Tom Owen and Reverend Dr. Dean Weaver.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

ANDERSON, SC - Marshall Dwain Freeman, age 51, of 111 Kaye Drive, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, June 2, 2010.
 
Born in Anderson, SC on September 22, 1958, Mr. Freeman was a son of Marshall M. Freeman and Shirley Jennings Freeman.  He was a United States Army veteran serving in the 82nd Airborne Division, and then served in the Army Reserve.  He was employed at Mac’s Dry Cleaners and was a member of West Whitner Baptist Church.
 
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Bridges Freeman of the home; stepson, Jody Davis and his wife, Jewel of Anderson, SC; brothers, Andy Freeman of Anderson, SC and Richard Freeman and his wife, Lisa of Williamston SC; sister, Marsha Singleton and her husband, Wayne of Hinesville, GA; two grandsons, Josh and Jared Davis; two nieces and nephews, Kayla, Daniel, Erica and David and one great niece, Aubrey.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 3:00 pm at M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery officiated by the Reverend Albert Strickland.
