LAWRENCE W. YEARGIN, JR.

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Lawrence W. “Fuzzy” Yeargin, Jr., passed away on December 30, 2009, at his home in Huntsville, AL.
 
Lawrence was a native of Anderson and longtime resident of Greenville.  He graduated from Anderson Boys’ High School and attended Auburn University.  Mr. Yeargin was a retired Sales Representative.  He was an avid motor boater, sailor, water-skier, and outdoorsman.  Above all, Fuzzy enjoyed making friendships abroad that led to a lifetime of wonderful memories.
 
Survivors include his wife, Edith Yeargin, of the home; son, Lawrence W. Yeargin, III (Tripp) and wife, Stewart and their children: Will and Maribella of Greenville, SC; his sister, Betty Jackson of Greenville, SC, and her children: Tommy, Beaty, Rosemary, and Anna.  He is also survived by Edith’s children: Esther Martin, Cpl. Philip D. Martin, and Rachel Martin Smith and husband, Joel and their children: Abigail, Isaac, and Noah, all of Huntsville, AL.
 
He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence W. Yeargin, Sr., & Rosa Katherina Garrison Yeargin; and his brother, Donald Garrison Yeargin.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Monday, January 4, 2009, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by the Reverend Deborah Richardson Moore.  A private committal service for the family will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.
 
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm on Monday, prior to the funeral service.  Following the funeral service, the family will receive friends at the Bohemian Café at 2-B West Stone Avenue (corner of North Main Street), in Greenville.

EDITH GODFREY

PENDLETON – Edith Klippstein Hann Godfrey, 88, of 1300 Marett Road, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born August 7, 1921 in Buffalo, NY, she was a homemaker and a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, Iva.

Survivors include her son, Larry Hann and wife, Sandra of Pendleton; and two granddaughters, Victoria Corbett of Anderson and Crystal Hann of Clinton, TN.

She was thrice married, first to the late Erwin David Hann, second to the late Wilbur Arnold, and third to the late Harold Godfrey. She was preceded in death by a son, David Hann. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Robbie Garrett. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to National Transplant Assistant Fund for Victoria Corbett, 150 N. Radnor Chester Road, Suite F-120, Radnor, PA 19087.

John Wesley McConnell

Anderson, SC – John Wesley McConnell, age 71, of 319 Simpson Road, died January 1, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
 
Born in Anderson, SC, on April 3, 1938, Mr. McConnell was a son of the late Charles Clarence McConnell and Nina Martin McConnell. He was a graduate of Anderson Boy’s High School. He was retired with 32 years of service as the Director of Wastewater Treatment Division, for the City of Anderson.  He attended Hope Fellowship Church.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Gail Thompson McConnell; son, Mark McConnell and his wife, Kathy; daughters, Elaine Perry and her husband, Arnold, Lizette Shaw and her husband, Johnny, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of Anderson, SC.  Also surviving are his brother, Derrill McConnell, and his sisters, Juanita Shirley, Janice Cheek, Sandra Meece, and Pam McConnell, and a sister-in-law, Joy Smith, all of Anderson, SC.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Reverends Tim Gautreaux, Mark Gasque, and Chad McConnell.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, January 3, 2010, from 6:00 pm until 8:00pm.
 
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice Of The Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Larry James Baker

ANDERSON- Larry James Baker went to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family, December 30, 2009. 

Born February 25, 1943 in Wabash, IN, he was the son of the late Robert and Virginia Baker. Larry retired from GenCorp Automotive, Marion, IN, in 1998 after 37 years of service.  Following his retirement he moved to Anderson where he became active in NewSpring Church.  Larry served in the greeting ministry. He never met a stranger and was always seeking ways to help others.  He had a true servant's heart.  He loved mowing yards for his neighbors and enjoyed helping in local organizations. 

He is survived by his wife, Debra Baker, of the home, 3 daughters, Monika (Rick) Hollars, IN, Karri (Heath) Peterson, SC and Krystal (Benjamin) Moorman, Utah; one son, Scott Baker, IN, 1 granddaughter, Megan, Hollars, 3 grandsons, Matthew and Noah Peterson and Benjamin Moorman, 3 brothers, Norman (Bea) Baker, Kenneth (Melinda)Baker, and Buster (Frankie) Baker, 2 sisters, Madalyn (Bill) Swain, Elizabeth (Henry) Adams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnalyn Baker. 

There will be an open house Celebration of Larry’s life on January 13, 2010 from 6 to 8 pm at the home, 1412 Old Ivy Rd, Anderson.

Paul Cobb

October 26, 1927-January 1, 2010
Anderson, SC- Mr. Paul Albert Cobb, age 82, of 338 F Street, husband of the late Pauline Aldrich Cobb, died Friday, January 1, 2010 at Brookside Living Center.
 
Born in Cedar Town, GA, he was a son of the late Luke Cobb and Julie Taylor Cobb. Mr. Cobb was a United States Army veteran and retired from Anderson Mill as a fixer. He was a member of Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church.
 
Survivors include his children, Rodney Cobb and his wife Debrah, Chad Cobb and his wife Glenda; a brother, Robert Cobb; sisters, Evelyn Dickson, Barbra Thompson and Doris Radford, all of Anderson; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Marty Cobb; brother, Harry Cobb; and a sister, Azalee Cartee.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Brent Lollis. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 pm-3:15pm, prior to the service.

THOMAS PRICHARD

ANDERSON – Thomas Edward Prichard, 62, of 107 Knightsbridge Lane, husband of Delores Hamilton Prichard, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born June 5, 1947 in Welch, WV, he was the son of Nancy Frances Cortellesi Prichard and the late Roy Edward Prichard. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a retired Train Master with Norfolk Southern Railway. He was a member of Anderson American Legion Post #14 and was a member of Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife, Delores; five children, Shannon Busby of Charleston, SC, Heather Mullen of Moneta, VA, Mark Doan of Salsbury, NC, Tim Doan of Statesboro, NC and Scotty Prichard of Blountville, TN; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; mother, Nancy C. Prichard of Princeton, WV; step-mother, Betty Prichard of Roanoke, VA; two sisters, Jeannie Woolwine of Princeton, WV and Donna Jo Prichard of Roanoke, VA; brother, Kenaz Prichard of Roanoke, VA and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Prichard.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 6pm Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Tuesday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Beckley, WV.

EVELYN C. BOLT

ANDERSON – Evelyn Campbell Bolt, 100, formerly of Anderson, widow of Grady F. Bolt, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.

Born June 21, 1909 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Pallie Gerrard Campbell. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Anderson and the Elise Padgett Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her son, Donald F. Bolt and wife, Marietta of Greenville; three granddaughters, Melanie Pouch and husband, Will, Tammy Watson and husband, Jim, and Paige Armstrong and husband, Michael, all of Greenville; eight great grandchildren, William Pouch and wife, Grace, Marian Pouch, Amanda Pouch, Montgomery Cornelson, Campbell Cornelson, Henry Cornelson, Mary Martin Armstrong, and Tiernan Armstrong; and one sister, Fleeta Drake of Anderson. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. ELIZABETH M. MOSELEY

ANDERSON- Elizabeth Murphy Moseley, 88, formerly of Shackleburg Dr., widow of J.Z. Moseley, Jr., died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 after a long illness.

Born June 22, 1921 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late C.W. and Minnie Campbell Murphy. She was a 1937 graduate of Girl’s High School and a 1941 graduate of Winthrop College. A committed teacher, Mrs. Moseley taught at Concord Elementary School from 1958-1987. Her involvement in education in Anderson County included summer work with Project Head Star, as well as with summer reading programs for underprivileged children. She was a devoted church member and taught adult Sunday School for decades at Hopewell Baptist Church. She was also active in the music program and other aspects of the educational program and in various women’s groups, both at Hopewell Baptist Church and earlier at New Prospect Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughters: Mary Moseley Tucker of Marietta, GA, Dr. Martha Regalis of Durham, NC; sons: John Z. Moseley, III and his wife, Minetta of Charlotte, NC, and W. Murphy Moseley, and his wife Frances of Clemson; grandchildren: Allyson Varn, Dr. Catherine Tucker, Major Michael Tucker; great grandchildren: Lucius Pinckney Varn, III and Olivia Varn and her uncle, James H. Campbell. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday January 2, 2010 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 North with Rev. Ken Keaton officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 PM prior to the service.

RALPH G. STONE

September 16, 1928 – December 29, 2009
 
ANDERSON, SC - Ralph Guyton Stone, age 81, of 313 Dogwood Street, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at his residence.
 
Born in Williamston, SC on September 16, 1928, Mr. Stone was a son of the late William Mack Stone and Mary Eliza Hendrix Stone.  He was a United States Navy veteran having served on the USS Boxer in the Pacific Theater where he received the Victory Medal and several Campaign Medals.  Mr. Stone was Past Post Commander at the V.F.W. Post #5996 and was the former owner of R.G. Stone Metal Works.
 
Survivors include his sons, Michael Stone (Amy), Donald Stone and Kenneth Stone (Abby); daughters, Zora Mims (Lauren) and Pamela Honeycutt (Mickey) all of Anderson; children’s mother, Mae Stone Gentry; brother, Major Stone of Iva; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 2:30 pm in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.  The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, December 31, 2009 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. The family will be at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Myrtle E. Gillespie

ANDERSON- Mrs. Myrtle Eddins Gillespie, age 71, wife of Dr. Marion Ray Gillespie, passed away on December 29, 2009 at her home.

Born in Atmore, Alabama on December 29, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Rachael Eddins.  She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi followed by a Masters in Audiology from Ohio State University.

She met her husband, M. Ray Gillespie, while working at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Gillespie was an active member of the Anderson Community for four decades.  She taught the Gillespie Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Anderson, SC for 30 years and served two terms as Deacon.  She was recently honored as a Life Deacon by First Baptist Church.

Her community involvement included serving on the boards of the Anderson County Medical Alliance, Foothills United Way, Anderson Junior Assembly and Anderson County Arts Council. One of her personal passions was supporting arts and music in the schools and the community.  She was a founding member of the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium (GAMAC) and served on the board for 18 years.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, M. Ray Gillespie; daughter, Andrea Gillespie Williford (Lawrence), of Macon, GA; her sons: M. Boyd Gillespie (Charlotte) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Allen R. Gillespie (Kelly) of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren: Grier and Hamp Williford; Lilly, Helen, Philip Gillespie; Alex and William Gillespie; and brother, James C. Eddins (Marianne). She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Ray Eddins.

Funeral services will be at 11AM Thursday,  December 31, 2009 at the First Baptist Church Anderson, with Dr. James R. Thomason officiating.  Burial will follow at the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7PM, December 30, 2009 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel.

IVA, SC – Lee Roy Collins, age 63, of 310 Williams Street, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2009.
 
Born in Toccoa, GA, on March 30, 1946, he was a son of the late James Ira Collins and Sara Jane Wilson Collins.  He was a former contractor and member of the Iva Church of God of Prophecy.
 
Survivors include his wife, Judy Mount Collins of the home; children: Donovan Collins of Starr, Jason Collins of Iva, Karen Mount of Lowndesville, Mandy Mount of Iva, and Victoria Garrett of Iva; sisters: Louise Ansley Collins of Toccoa, Betty Jean Pressley Collins of Toccoa, and Ruby Inez Collins Thomas of Toccoa; brothers: J.B. Collins of Anderson and John Henry Collins of Toccoa; and eleven grandchildren.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, December 31, 2009, at the Iva Church of God of Prophecy, conducted by the Reverend Stanley Campbell.  Interment will follow in the Iva City Cemetery. The family is at the home and will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm on Wednesday at the Iva Church of God of Prophecy.
