STELLA ROLAND

OCTOBER 23, 1915 – DECEMBER 20, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Stella Mae Hawkins Roland, age 96, wife of the late Howard F. Roland, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at NHC Healthcare of Anderson.

Born October 23, 1915, in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Reverend Claude C. Hawkins and Susie Wheeler Hawkins. Mrs. Roland was a member of the House of Prayer and retired from Appleton Mill.  She was a homemaker in later years. 

Survivors include her son, Olin D. Roland and wife, Betty Jean Roland; brother, Donald D. Hawkins; sisters: Frances Cox, Shirley Donalds, & Judy Bailey, all of Anderson, SC, and a sister, Sarah Massey of Canon, GA.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers: James & Henry Hawkins; and a sister, Louise Brewer. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, December 22, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Terry Bailey.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of Olin & Betty Jean Roland and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm on Wednesday.  

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.  The Roland family would like to acknowledge the staffs of NHC Healthcare for the genuine care give to Mrs. Roland.

WAYNE SCOTT

JANUARY 22, 1944 – DECEMBER 19, 2011 

ANDERSON, SC – Richard Wayne Scott, age 67, of 1017 Dickerson Road, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011, at his home.

Born January 22, 1944, in Ware Shoals, SC, he was a son of the late J.W. ‘Bill’ Scott and Louise Weeks Scott.   Mr. Scott was a graduate of Anderson Boys’ High School and served in the United States Army.  He retired from a career in retail, having been employed as a Manager for McCall’s Menswear as well as Carolina Retail Packaging. He was a longtime faithful member of Starr Baptist Church where he had served since 1967 as church treasurer, served as a Deacon, and was a choir member; additionally, he was supporter of the church’s ‘Good News Club’.  Mr. Scott was a former active member of the Knights of Pythias. 

Survivors include his wife, Edna Bannister Scott, of the home; daughter, Ansley Scott Woodson; grandchildren: William, Anna, and Caroline Woodson, all of Anderson, SC; brothers: Keith Scott of Abbeville, SC, and Joe Scott of Anderson, SC; and stepbrothers: Reverend Bob Philyaw and Laverne Philyaw, both of Anderson, SC. He is also survived by ‘his good buddy’, Kayla Bannister.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Tony Howell.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  Nephews will serve as pallbearers; the Men’s Bible Class will serve as honorary escort.  

The family is at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Starr Baptist Church, P.O. Box 137, Starr, SC 29684.

MARGARET GRIFFITH HUNTER

June 2, 1923 – December 17, 2011

WILLIAMSTON, SC - Mrs. Margaret Griffith Hunter, age 88, of 5800 Highway 81, North, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011, at the Greenville Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.  She was born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Henry Anderson Griffith, Sr., and the late Mae Gaillard Griffith. 

Mrs. Hunter was a graduate of White Plains High School, and Anderson College where she received her bachelor’s degree.  Margaret taught in the Anderson Public School System for many years.  Later she worked in the credit union of BASF in Anderson.  She was an active member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, where for many years she taught children’s Sunday School classes, was a member of Prime Timer’s and served on various committees.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 64 years, Avin Hunter.  Also surviving are brothers, William R. Griffith, Sr. (Judy) of Florence, and H. A. Griffith, Jr. of Williamston; sisters, Emmaline Griffith Porter and Grace Griffith Stegall, both of Anderson.  Mrs. Hunter leaves behind several cherished nieces and nephews. 

A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Hunter will be held on Monday, December 19, 2011, at 2 PM at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Jerry White officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family is at the residence, and will receive friends at the church on Monday prior to the service from 1 PM until 2 PM.   

Those who choose may make a memorial contribution to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 101 Pisgah Road, Easley, SC 29642.

ADA Y. CLINKSCALES

July 9, 1932 – December 17, 2011 

Mrs. Ada Y. Clinkscales, age 79, of the Lowndesville Community, died Saturday, December 17, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.  She was a daughter of the late Samuel O’Neal Yeargin and the late Pauline Boles Yeargin.  Mrs. Clinkscales was married to the late Bruce Ivy Clinkscales for 54 years.  She was employed at the Rocky River Plant in
Calhoun Falls for many years, and she was also a seamstress.  Ada was a graduate of Lowndesville High School.
 

She is survived by two sons:  Allen Bruce Clinkscales (Brenda) of Iva, and Mark Clinkscales (Priscilla) of Anderson; daughters:  Emily McMahan of Lowndesville; Marlene C. Helmly, Janice Parnell (Carl), and Lynette Clinkscales, all of Iva; brothers: David Yeargin (Peggy), and Paul Yeargin (Janet) both of Lowndesville; sisters:  Dorothy Sanders (Charles) of Iva, Lucille Todd and Evaline Goodwin (Harold), both of Anderson.  Step-sons: Dean Clinkscales of Anderson and Ronnie Clinkscales of Michigan;  also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2011, at 3 PM at the Lowndesville Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Rev. Scotty Willoughby and Carl Parnell officiating.  Interment will follow at the Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lowndesville.  The family will receive friends at the church on Monday prior to the service from 2 PM – 3 PM, and will be at the residence of a daughter, Emily McMahan, 6554 Highway 81 North, Iva.

KIRK KIRKPATRICK

October 7, 1919 – December 14, 2011 

ANDERSON, SC - Olin S. Kirkpatrick, age 92, of The Magnolias of Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Great Falls, SC, Olin was a son of the late William Murray Kirkpatrick and Mattie McDonald Kirkpatrick. He proudly graduated from Clemson College, Class of 1941.  He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil and Erosion Division after 43 years of service.  Olin served on the Board of Directors of the Hammond Water District, was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was an avid gardener and traveler. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Rogers Kirkpatrick; their two sons, William O. Kirkpatrick and his wife, Joyce of Anderson, SC, and David M. Kirkpatrick and his wife, Dell of Spartanburg, SC; a brother, Donald Kirkpatrick of Winston Salem, NC; 4 grandchildren, Cameron, Bonnie, David and his wife, Catherine, and Drew; and 2 great-grandchildren, Ben and Taylor.

Following the private family Committal Service, the Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Frey officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.

WILLIAM B. DAVIS SR.

MAY 27, 1927 - DECEMBER 13, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – William Brown Davis Sr., age 84, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011. 

Born May 27, 1927, in Belton, SC, he was a son of the late Herman Brown Davis and Ruby McCoy Davis. He served in the United States Navy and was a lifetime member of the Ruff Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Staton Davis, of the home; three children: Sharon Carter and husband, Tommy, of Anderson, SC, William B. ‘Bill’ Davis Jr. and wife, Suah, of Virginia, and Karen McClain and husband, Brian, of Greer, SC; four grandchildren: Jennifer Ashley Davis, Shannon L. Roach, Alyson Beth Johnson, and Thomas Alan Carter; and one great granddaughter, Leslie Carter Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Herman Alvin Davis. 

In keeping with the wishes of Mr. Davis, there will be no visitation and a private family graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

MANDY GARCIA

December 6, 1985 – December 13, 2011 

IVA, SC – Amanda Marie Garcia, age 26, of 122 DeWitt Lane, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at her home.

Born December 6, 1985, in Miami, FL, she was a daughter of Barbara Ann Phillips Medlin and the late Carlos Alberto Garcia.  She was a graduate of Westside High School and Clemson University.  Survivors include her mother, Barbara Medlin; her father, Ralph Christopher Medlin, both of the home; sisters: Jessica Hanna and husband, Jerry, of Iva, SC, and Tanya Garcia of Anderson, SC; paternal grandmother, Cecilia Garcia of Miami, FL; grandparents: Ralph & Betty Medlin of Anderson, SC; an adopted mom, Lydia White of Anderson, SC; two nieces and a nephew also survive. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 4pm on Friday, December 16, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend William French.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

MARCH 4, 1923 - DECEMBER 12, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Thirza Lois Barker King, age 88, wife of the late Elmer Leon King, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born March 4, 1923, in Pine Level, FL, she was a daughter of the late Forest Cecil Barker and Daisy Elizabeth Neel Barker. Mrs. King was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Iva as well as Truth Tabernacle in Starr. 

Survivors include her sons: Ernest Roy King of Mechanicsville, MD, and Wesley Earle King of Anderson, SC; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Elmer Leon King; sons: Francis Dale King, Roger N. King, and Salty Hinton; brother, Cecil Barker; and sisters: Helen Blair and Dorothy Barker. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, December 15, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Jerry Gray and the Reverend Hudson White.  Interment will follow in South Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home of a granddaughter, 4116 Six & Twenty Road, Williamston, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm on Wednesday.

MILDRED BANE SHIRLEY 

May 20, 1929 – December 10, 2 011 

ANDERSON, SC – Mildred Bane Shirley, age 82, of Anderson, wife of the late William “Bill” Shirley, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at The Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Norman Lee Bane and LuJean Crocker Bane.  Mrs. Shirley graduated from Anderson Adult Education with a high school diploma and retired from Clemson University after 10 years of service.  She was a member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church and an active member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her daughters; Mrs. Phil Rogers (Linda) and Beverly S. Wilson and her husband, Danny; grandchildren, Christie Martin and her husband, Ben, Kelly Copelan and her husband, Jay, Casey Rogers and his wife, Sherri, Scott Wilson and his wife, Keli and Adam Wilson and his wife, Kayla; 9 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Leroy Bane of Anderson, SC, Larry Bane of Saluda, NC and Doug Bane of Anderson, SC.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her infant son, William Lee Shirley, infant daughter, Deborah Ann Shirley and sister, Virginia Jordan. 

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Varennes Heights Baptist Church at 2:00 pm conducted by Reverend Dr. Kirt Mitchell and Rev. Dr. David Blizzard.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

The family is at the home of her daughter, Beverly Wilson, 1420 Hillhouse Drive, Anderson, and will receive friends on Monday, December 12, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.

IVA, SC – Evelyn Katherine Latham Stokes, age 88, of 42 Rocky River AME Church Road, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Exalted Healthcare of Iva.

Born May 23, 1923, in Iva, she was a daughter of the late William Baylis Latham and Maude Aileen Bannister Latham.   Mrs. Stokes was a homemaker and a member of Rocky River Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters: Linda Merck & husband, Reuben, of Anderson, SC, and Susan Ellison of Iva, SC; three grandchildren: Gary Brown & wife, Megan, of Williamston, SC, Amy Wurst & husband, Matt, of Belton, SC, and Russell Merck &  wife, Allison, of Anderson, SC; four great grandchildren: Tara & Jamie Brown, and Jacob & Grace Wurst; and three step great grandchildren: Wyatt, Cole, & Riley Haynie.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Harold Stokes; brother, Austin Latham; and sisters: Ruth Jones and Blanche Morgan.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Monday, December 12, 2011, at Rocky River Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Stephen Payne and the Reverend Larry Cox.  The family will receive friends at Rocky River Baptist Church from 2pm until 3pm on Monday, prior to the service.  Burial will follow the funeral service in the Iva City Cemetery.

ANDERSON, SC – Nettie Ruth Williams, wife of the late Charles Edward Williams, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2011.

Born in Sandy Springs, SC, on April 14, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Marshall J. Burdette and Ruth Crawford Burdette.  Survivors include her daughter, Judy Diane Simpson, of Anderson, SC.  Her son, Wayne Edward King, predeceased her.
