MARGARET GRIFFITH HUNTER

June 2, 1923 – December 17, 2011
WILLIAMSTON, SC - Mrs. Margaret Griffith Hunter, age 88, of 5800 Highway 81, North, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011, at the Greenville Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Henry Anderson Griffith, Sr., and the late Mae Gaillard Griffith.
Mrs. Hunter was a graduate of White Plains High School, and Anderson College where she received her bachelor’s degree. Margaret taught in the Anderson Public School System for many years. Later she worked in the credit union of BASF in Anderson. She was an active member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, where for many years she taught children’s Sunday School classes, was a member of Prime Timer’s and served on various committees.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 64 years, Avin Hunter. Also surviving are brothers, William R. Griffith, Sr. (Judy) of Florence, and H. A. Griffith, Jr. of Williamston; sisters, Emmaline Griffith Porter and Grace Griffith Stegall, both of Anderson. Mrs. Hunter leaves behind several cherished nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Hunter will be held on Monday, December 19, 2011, at 2 PM at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Jerry White officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the residence, and will receive friends at the church on Monday prior to the service from 1 PM until 2 PM.
