CYNDE HARRIS

ANDERSON - Cynthia "Cynde" Williams Harris, 63, of 120 Lockwood Drive, widow of George Samuel "Sammy" Harris, Jr., died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born January 12, 1950 in Charleston, SC,  she was the daughter of the late Robert L. Williams and Elinor Reid Williams Parrott. She was a graduate of T. L. Hanna High School and Anderson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a retired surgical tech in Dr. McGaha's Office.  Mrs. Harris was a member of North Anderson Community Presbyterian Church where she had served as an Elder.

Survivors include her son, Timothy Samuel Harris of Atlanta, GA; her daughter, Julia Lee Ann Harris of Savannah, GA; four sisters, Donna (Stan) Kelly and Barbara (Earl) Flores of Darlington, Lisa (Greg) McDonough of Aliquippa, PA, and Karen E. Parrott of Hartsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, C. Ray Parrott.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. A memorial service will be held at    5 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013 at North Anderson Community Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. L. Thomas Richie.

RALPH E. “CUTIE” REED

June 5, 1917 – July 2, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Ralph Edward “Cutie” Reed, age 96, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Franklin County, GA, he was the son of the late Henry Dee Reed and the late Nancy Cox Reed.  He was a former employee of Anderson Mill.  Ralph was also the former owner and operator of Reed’s Barber Shop.  After his retirement, he continued to work for the Model Barber Shop.  He was a charter member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple.  Ralph was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Reed and his wife Shirley of Jacksonville, FL, and Jimmy Reed and his wife Sheila of Anderson, SC; six grandchildren, Cynthia Rowe, Patricia Reece, Julia Warren, Tracey Reed, Darrin Reed and Valerie Parnell; six great-grandchildren , Rochelle Curlee, Blane Reed, Dylan Reed, and Bryson, Mason and Lawson Parnell.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Lillian Mayfield Reed; and his brothers and sisters.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Sam Duncan officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home of his son, Jimmy, 1003 Liberty Roe and will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 4, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

RONNIE GREER

WILLIAMSTON - Ronald "Ronnie" Glaster Greer, 56, of 1209 Welcome Road, husband of Lynn Greer, passed away Monday, July 1, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born August 4, 1956 in Anderson, he was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Segars McKinley Greer; father, John B. McKinley and adopted father, Dallas "Pete" Burton Greer. He was the owner and operator of RG Grading and Landscaping Company and member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Lynn Whitlock Greer of the home; 3 daughters, Jessica Wood (Dale) of Summerville, Jamie Culbertson (Drew) of Duncan and Anna Greer (Dre) of Anderson; 3 grandchildren, Lily, Jonathan and Raiden; brother, Michael Greer of Anderson and 2 sisters, Marie Hendrix of Starr and Connie Greer of Townville.

Funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday at Hopewell Baptist Church with Revs. Evan Hill, Ken Keaton and Delano McMinn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 Hwy 81 North.

Edwin Fletcher Dunlap

December 31, 1923 – July 1, 2013 

BELTON, SC - Edwin Fletcher Dunlap, age 89, of Belton, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013.

Born in Belton, SC, Edwin was the son of the late Harmon Dunlap and the late Florence D. Dunlap.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.  Edwin held a partnership with Darby Electric. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Broadwell Dunlap, of the home; one son, Rodney E. Dunlap and his wife Kathy, of Belton 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Hillhouse.

The Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 3:30 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Reverend Danny Gray and Lecil Boggs officiating.  Private interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

BEATRICE POORE MARTIN

JANUARY 2, 1921 - JUNE 28, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Beatrice Poore Martin, age 92, wife of the late Van William Martin,  passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013 at NHC of Anderson. 

Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Jefferson Poore and the late Earline Williams Poore.  She was a graduate of Girls High in 1939.  Mrs. Martin was the former co-owner of Anderson Sheet Metal Company and retired from Nevitt Forest Elementary School in the cafeteria.   She was a faithful member of Oakwood Baptist Church where she attended the  Alathean Sunday School Class, the Joy Club and for 59 years she was their General Secretary of Sunday School.  She was an avid flower gardener.

Mrs. Martin was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Harriet James; two grandchildren, Meloni Patrice James and Van Martin James and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ollie, Haskel, Joe, Fred, John J., and William Harrison Poore; sisters, Gertrude Fowler, Gussie Shirley, Janie Coker, Mildred Martin, Ruth Black and Sara Snelgrove; son-in-law, W. E “Bill” James, Jr.

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at  2:00 pm   in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Reverend Jeff Bartlett, Reverend Jeff Davis and Mr. Jon Holmes officiating.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

The family will be at the residence of her daughter, Harriet James, 2510 Lindale Road, Anderson, SC, 29621.

AVIS S. “ABBY” WILLIAMS

September 5, 1925 – June 28, 2013

Avis “Abby” Laura Saxon Williams, age 87, of 302 D Street, went to join Jesus and her beloved husband, Sol, on Friday, June 28, 2013, upon her death at Rainey Hospice House.  Born in Abbeville County, SC, she was the daughter of the late John H. Saxon and the late Dora Bell Smith Saxon.  For 69 years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the late T.J. Solomon Williams until his death in 2010.  Mrs. Williams was a home maker and a member of Centerville Church of God.   She enjoyed making crafts for others to enjoy.  Abby also had a green thumb and loved her flower garden.

Survivors include 3 sons, John W. Williams, Gael Williams and his wife, Marsha, Ted J. Williams and his wife, Shelly, all of Anderson;  and a daughter, Esther Bowman of Anderson.  Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Williams Smith; a granddaughter, Marie Ashworth; sisters, Leona Hagood, Dorothy Wiles and Floree Shinall; and brothers, William Saxon and Odis Saxon.  Abby was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Williams will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013, at 2 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Terry Collins officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, July 1, 2013, from 12 noon until 1:30 PM.

BERTHA LEE GREEN

June 16, 1929 – June 30, 2013 

Bertha Lee “Polly” Carey Green, age 84, formerly of 111 New Street, Iva, SC, passed away on June 30, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Royston, GA, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Carey and the late Rosa Lee Hart Carey.  She worked at Jackson Mill for over 30 years.  Bertha Lee was a member of Iva Pentecostal Holiness Church.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Wayne Green, of Iva, SC, Jimmy Ray “Beaver” Green, of Starr, SC,  Michael Green and his wife Candy, of Abbeville, SC, Faye Kelly and her husband Jimmy, of Anderson, SC, Susan McGill and her husband Randy, of Anderson, SC and Marie Hall and her husband Keith, of Iva, SC; brothers, William Carey, of Bowman, GA and Toby Carey of Winder, GA; sisters, Ella Mae Hanks, of Iva, SC, and Rachael Eaton, of Anderson, SC; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Green; special niece and caregiver, Ann Howell; and former daughter-in law, Christie Green.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Walter Green; a son, Doug Green; three sisters, Mary Leen Timms, Margaret Byrum and Cordell Carey; a brother, Bill Carey; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Green.

The Funeral Service will be held at Iva Pentecostal Holiness Church on Tuesday at 2:00 pm with Reverend Billy Pinson and Reverend Charles Howell officiating.  Interment will follow at Iva City Cemetery.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

TOMMIE HAMRICK

February 15, 1941 – June 28, 2013

PENDLETON, SC - Tommie Stegall Hamrick, age 72, formerly of Pickens Drive, Pendleton, SC, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Magnolia Manor of Greenville.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Earl Stegall and the late Sue Ellen Martin Stegall.  Tommie loved animals, especially her special canine and feline children, Priscilla and Misty, her beloved dogs and Babydoll and Daphne, her beloved cats. She was a faithful member of Six and Twenty Baptist Church.

In addition to her pet family, she is survived by her son, Anthony Bagwell and his wife Kay of Pendleton, SC; and one granddaughter, Courtney Roberts and her husband Jim. 

The family will receive friends at Six and Twenty Baptist Church on Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM.  The Funeral service will follow at the church at 11:30 AM with Reverend Willie Honea officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

GERALDINE “JUDY” ROGERS

February 28, 1924 – June 26, 2013

Geraldine “Judy” Clardy Rogers, age 89, of 210 Pear Tree Lane, Pendleton, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, surrounded by the love of her family.  Born in Carnesville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo Clardy and the late Easter Smith Clardy.  Mrs. Rogers was an avid Clemson Tigers football fan who attended games regularly.  She was a devoted member of Lebanon Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Judy was retired from the Milliken Plant in Pendleton where she served in several roles while employed.  She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Harold Joseph Rogers, Sr., until his death in 1980.

Survivors include 2 sons, Harold Joseph Rogers, Jr. and his wife, Charleen, of Pendleton, and Marvin Alonzo Rogers and his wife, Linda, of Anderson; 3 daughters, Mary Ann Martin of Seneca, Betty Ramey and her husband Jimmy, of Anderson, and Vickie Bryson, and her husband, Tommy, of Pendleton; and1 brother, Charles Clardy and his wife, Mary, of Piedmont. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Harold, Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by 3 sons, Wister, Aaron and David Rogers; a grandson, Wayne Rogers; 4 brothers, Buck, Pete, Talmedge and Lewis Clardy; and 3 sisters, Lola Sisk, Jean McCoy, and Mozelle Gooch. 

A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Judy Rogers will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013, at 3 PM, at the Lebanon Baptist Church, with Rev. Harry Warren officiating.  Interment will follow in the Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, June 27, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.

VIOLET MUSE

ANDERSON, SC - Violet Weaver Muse, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late George Weaver and the late Annie Weaver. Prior to staying home full time with her children, she was an Insurance Underwriter in Atlanta and Anderson.  Violet was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Kipreos and her husband Pete of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Vera Harris and her husband Louis of Anderson, SC and Lucille Tribble and her husband Bill of Taylors, SC; and two grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Muse; and two beloved grandsons, Nicolas and Robert Panos.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 3:00 PM at The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Tracy Ivester and Reverend Joe Whisnant officiating.  Interment will follow at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

BILLY RAY HARBIN

ANDERSON - Billy Ray Harbin, 77, husband of Vickie Hughes Harbin, died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical center.

Born December 21, 1935 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Arthur and Macie Whitfield Harbin. He was co-owner of Harbin & Sons Used Cars. Mr. Harbin was a member of Ruff Lodge #240, Hejaz Shrine Temple and the Red Fez Club. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Vickie; sons, Rodney Harbin (Susan), Ted Harbin (Tammy), Keith Harbin, Barry Harbin (JoAnn) and their mother, Carolyn S. Strickland of Anderson. He is also survived by sons, Steve Mueller (Shannon) and Brian Harbin (Merrell) and their mother, Sylvia Ann S. Duvall of Anderson. Also surviving are sons, Eddie Claxton (Christina), Jeremy Claxton (April) of Swainsboro, GA., and daughter, Kristal Davis (Josh), of Anderson; grandchildren, Will (Brandi), Joel (Natalie), Krystal, Kandace, Lexi, Hunter, Dylan, Tanner, Isabella and Emma Claxton, Braden Mueller, and Kendall Whitaker (Kyle); great grandchildren, Aiden and Beckett Harbin  and Elijah Whitaker; brother, Henry C. “Bob” Harbin (Hilda) and sister, Linda Harbin Venturella (George) of Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Ray Grant, Rev. Rodney Harbin and Rev. Jerry Nation. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the residence.
