BELTON, SC – Joe Keys “Dave” King, Jr., age 63, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Born in Belton, SC, on November 26, 1946, he was a son of the late Colonel Joe K. King, Sr.,
and Mildred Ferguson King. Dave was a graduate of Belton High School and was a charter member of Eastview Baptist Church in Belton. Following twenty years of service in the United States Army, National Guard Bureau, he retired at the rank of Command Sergeant Major. Following his service career, BellSouth employed him for twenty-eight years. Mr. King was a member of the Winter Park Optimist Club – during his membership he served as a member of the Board of Directors and served as Chairman of several committees. He also served numerous capacities within the North Carolina East Optimist Club. In 2009, among many awards received, he was honored as the recipient of the Optimist of the Year award.
Survivors include his children: one daughter, Shon King-Calloway and husband, Cliff Calloway and their son, Garrett Benjamin Calloway, of Rock Hill, SC; two sons: Wyatt Justin King of Orlando, FL, and Tyler Bradley King of Florence, SC; sister, Sara Ruth King of Belton, SC; and brother, Reverend Robert Del King and wife, Terry King of Hampton, SC; stepmother, Sue Wilson King of Belton; and his significant other, Sandy Cyphers of Wilmington, NC.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Eastview Baptist Church, Belton, conducted by the Reverend Gregg Black. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Garden of Memories.
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 4pm until 6pm on Saturday, January 30, 2010. In the event of in climate weather, the family will also receive friends following the service at Eastview Baptist Church on Sunday. Mr. King will be placed in the Church one hour prior to the funeral service on Sunday.
It is suggested that memorials be made to the North Carolina Boys & Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw, 400 Flemington Drive, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450, 910-646-3083.
