WILLIE L. BURDETTE

May 25, 1921 – February 1, 2010

IVA, SC - Willie Lee Burdette, age 88, of 319 Sarah Simpson Road, died Monday, February 1, 2010 at his home. Born in Iva, SC on May 25, 1921, Mr. Burdette was a son of the late Sam Burdette and Ola Gilreath Burdette and the husband of the late Sybil Gailey Griffin Burdette.  He was a United States Army World War II veteran.  He worked in textiles for many years and having retired from Riverside Mill.  He was a member of Greater Harvest Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his daughters, Drusilla Alewine of Lavonia, GA, Patsy Davis of Anderson and Arlene Ricketts of Iva; sons, Doyle Griffin, Jimmy Griffin and Ronnie Griffin, all of Anderson; brothers, Leo Burdette of Anderson and Harold Burdette of Belton; 10 grandchildren 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Woodard Burdette; son Dennis Larry Griffin; brothers, Sammy, Theo and Henry Burdette and sister, Zoah B. Ayers.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 12:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverends Frank Whitfield and Shane Elrod.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of his daughter, Patsy Davis, 1115 Hickory Lane, Anderson and will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A message of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting

FRANCES A. JARRARD

ANDERSON, SC – Marion Frances Adams Jarrard, wife of William David Jarrard of 301 Mountain Creek Church Road, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center.
 
Born in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late Jess Adams and Eva Ricketts Adams.  She retired from AnMed Health Medical Center and was a charter member of Wellington Pentecostal Holiness Church.
 
Survivors include her husband, William David Jarrard, of the home; daughter, Lynn Medlin; son, Danny B. Neal; sisters: Doris Murphy and Grace Sutherland, all of Anderson; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
 
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Dr. Tony Smith and the Reverend Bobby Smith. Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.
 
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday, February 2, 2010.

ANDERSON – Jane Vogler Stone, 80, of 110 Stagecoach Drive, died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at her residence. 
Born September 22, 1929 in Spartanburg, she was a legal secretary for many attorneys in Anderson. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson.  Surviving are her husband, Billy S. Stone, of the home; daughter, Paula Johnson and her husband, Johnny of Anderson and a cousin, Jack Webster of Spartanburg.

ROBERT LEBEL

July 25, 1928 – January 30, 2010
 
ANDERSON, SC - Robert Lebel, age 81, of 113 Bronco Drive, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.
 
Born in Lewiston, Maine on July 25, 1928, Mr. Lebel was the son of the late Willie Lebel and Marie Couturier Lebel. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He moved to Anderson, SC in 1994 and retired from Kroger Bakery. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his morning walks at the Anderson Mall.
 
He is survived by his children, Roberta Miville of Anderson, SC, Roland Lebel of Auburn, ME, Rachel Ross of Jamestown, NC, Richard Lebel of Lewiston, ME; two sisters, Ann Gravel of Leeds, ME and Lorette Sharby of Pittsfield, MA; a sister-in-law, Eva Lebel of Auburn, ME; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his beloved friend, Mary Kelly of Iva, SC. No funeral services are planned.

ANDERSON – Hazel Whitman Campbell Honea, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Cottingham Hospice House, Seneca, SC.
Hazel lived a long life loving family, friends, and serving her God.
She was always happy, and her joy and happiness will be missed by daughter, Diane Busey (Paul) of Seneca; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Miller (Jim) of Seneca; and step-daughters, Peggy Mackey (Bob) of Alexandria, VA, JoAndre “Boots” Hindman (Joe) of Anderson, Nancy Moore of Anderson, and Jackie Smith (Jackie) of Greenville. There are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews that she loved and that brought much happiness to her.
She was saddened in her life by the loss of her first husband, Claude Campbell; son, Phillip Campbell; second husband, Andrew Honea; stepson, Billy Honea; mother, Julia Whitman; and brothers, Warren and Joe.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2010 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, 401 North Main Street, Anderson. Grandsons Douglas and Stephen Campbell will honor their grandmother’s wishes by presiding at her service. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

PENDLETON, SC - James “Jim” Shelby Flint, II, age 89 of Pendleton, SC, died Friday, January 29, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.
 

 

Born on March 23, 1920, Mr. Flint was the son of the late James Shelby Flint and Janie Flint.
 
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Gwen Flint; sons, James Shelby Flint, III and Stephen Miles Flint and daughter, Gaynelle Paige Flint.
 
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

DAVE KING

 

NOVEMBER 26, 1946 – JANUARY 27, 2010
 
BELTON, SC – Joe Keys “Dave” King, Jr., age 63, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.
 
Born in Belton, SC, on November 26, 1946, he was a son of the late Colonel Joe K. King, Sr., and Mildred Ferguson King.  Dave was a graduate of Belton High School and was a charter member of Eastview Baptist Church in Belton. Following twenty years of service in the United States Army, National Guard Bureau, he retired at the rank of Command Sergeant Major.  Following his service career, BellSouth employed him for twenty-eight years.  Mr. King was a member of the Winter Park Optimist Club – during his membership he served as a member of the Board of Directors and served as Chairman of several committees.  He also served numerous capacities within the North Carolina East Optimist Club.  In 2009, among many awards received, he was honored as the recipient of the Optimist of the Year award.
 
Survivors include his children: one daughter, Shon King-Calloway and husband, Cliff Calloway and their son, Garrett Benjamin Calloway, of Rock Hill, SC; two sons: Wyatt Justin King of Orlando, FL, and Tyler Bradley King of Florence, SC; sister, Sara Ruth King of Belton, SC; and brother, Reverend Robert Del King and wife, Terry King of Hampton, SC; stepmother, Sue Wilson King of Belton; and his significant other, Sandy Cyphers of Wilmington, NC.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Eastview Baptist Church, Belton, conducted by the Reverend Gregg Black.  Interment with full military honors will follow in the Garden of Memories.
 
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 4pm until 6pm on Saturday, January 30, 2010.   In the event of in climate weather, the family will also receive friends following the service at Eastview Baptist Church on Sunday.  Mr. King will be placed in the Church one hour prior to the funeral service on Sunday.
 
It is suggested that memorials be made to the North Carolina Boys & Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw, 400 Flemington Drive, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450, 910-646-3083.

ANDERSON, SC - Phyllis Elaine Harris, age 60, wife of Fred M. Harris of 302 Beverly Lane, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at her residence.
 
Born in Anderson, SC on April 1, 1949, Mrs. Harris was the daughter of the late Robert Maddox and Sara Brown.  She was a graduate of Crescent High School and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple and a member of the choir.
 
Survivors include her husband of the home; sons, Timothy Wayne “Tim” Sanders, Robert Ryan “Robbie” Koon; stepdaughters, Melinda J. Harris, Vickie Lynn Wood and Angie Marie Dodd; brother, Steve Wayne Maddox; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Allen Sanders.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Gethsemane Baptist Temple officiated by the Reverend Sam Duncan.  Interment will follow in M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 11:00 am.

ANDERSON, SC – Reba Hill Holcombe, age 85, of Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House.
 
Born in Royston, GA, on October 21, 1924, she was a daughter of the late General Gordon Hill and Clara Belle Berryman Hill.  She retired from BASF and was the owner of A & R Marine Salvage.  She was a member of Orrville United Methodist Church.
 
Survivors include her granddaughters: Jessie Bradley of Columbia, and Betsy Holcombe of Anderson; great grandchildren: Haley Roberts, Hannah Roberts, and Jeremiah Holcombe.  She is also survived by one brother, Paul Hill; and one sister, Ruby Lashley, both of Florida.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen B. Holcombe; and her children: Leavern Holcombe Bevill and Edwin Allen Holcombe.
 
The family will receive friends from 1 pm until 2 pm on Friday, January 29, 2010, at The McDougald Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home at 2:30 pm and will be conducted by the Reverend Dr. Jack Couch.   Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

BELTON, SC – Frances Westbrook Pruitt, age 82, wife of the late Erskine Marion Pruitt, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Willow Creek Living Center.
 
Born in Banks County, GA, on February 9, 1927, she was a daughter of the late John Lee Westbrook and Mattie Henderson Westbrook.  She was a homemaker.
 
Surivors include her daughters: Linda Howard and Susan Copeland, both of Belton; brother, Jimmy Westbook of Anderson; sister, Ruth Wiles of Abbeville; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: R.L., Dewey, and Conard Westbrook; and sisters: Imogene Hawkins and Evelyn Smith.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend Bill Ellison.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service. ANDERSON, SC - Peggy Jean Gentry Jordan, 78, of Anderson, SC, died Jan., 22, 2010 at AnMed Medical Center.
 
Born in Pendleton, She was the daughter of the late Oscar Plumber Gentry and Nellie Caroline Beard Gentry.  She retired from Toxaway Mill and was of the Holiness Faith.
 
Survivors include her two sons, Eddy and Gary Duncan and daughter, Cindy Stewart; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Dial Jordan; daughter, Cathy Anne Wilson; brother, Hugh Coleman; sisters, Dorothy Manley and Mary Ann McClain.
