June Garland Durham

SANDY SPRINGS, SC - June Garland Durham, age 73, wife of Hugh Durham of 80 Dogwood Circle, died Thursday, January 21, 2010, at NHC Health Care in Anderson.
 
Born in Walhalla, SC on June 6, 1936, Mrs. Durham was a daughter of the late Earl Lee Garland and Pearl Gillispie Durham.  She formerly worked for J. P. Stephens and Kmart Corporation and for many years worked in the family business, Durham Grocery Store in Sandy Springs.  She was a member of Fants Grove Baptist Church where she was a teacher of the Ladies Sunday School class, member of the Choir and the W.M.U.
 
Survivors include her husband, Hugh Durham of the home; sons, Robert Durham and his wife Michelle of Pendleton; Nathan Durham of the home; brothers, Randall and Larry Garland, both of La France; sisters, Shirley Evans of Sandy Springs and Joan Scarboro of Pendleton; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Frank Garland. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm at Fants Grove Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 3:00 pm, officiated by the Reverend Robert Durham and Reverend Edward Bryson.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the residence. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Solaris Hospice, 129 Straight Drive, Anderson, SC 29621.

VELESSIA ERTZBERGER

MAY 28, 1958 – JANUARY 19, 2010
ANDERSON, SC – Velessia Ann Kernels Ertzberger, age 51, of 413 North Street, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson, SC, on May 28, 1958, she was a graduate of McDuffie High School and was a homemaker.
 
Survivors include her husband, Terry Ertzberger of the home; mother, Dorothy Sue Thacker Seymour of Anderson; father, Jimmy Bryan Kernels of Anderson; sons: Nicholas Sullivan and wife, Angela of Anderson, and Patrick Sullivan of Anderson; granddaughter, Nico Sullivan of Anderson. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Marie Kernels Burton.
 
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 12 noon until 2 pm on Thursday, January 21, 2010.  A Graveside Service will immediately follow at 2:30 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, conducted by the Reverend Mark Daniel. The family is at the home.

DORIS E. ENTREKIN

ABBEVILLE – Doris Ethridge Entrekin, 85, of 19 Clyde Cove Lane, widow of Clyde Eugene Entrekin, died Monday, January 18, 2010 at her residence.

Born February 13, 1924 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late W. Jesse and Bessie Broadwell Ethridge. She was a retired seamstress, a homemaker, and a member of Rocky River Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sara E. White and husband, Earl of Antreville, and Ruth E. Twente of Belton; six grandchildren, Barry White, Rep. Brian White, Arlene Atkins, Alice Patterson, Amanda Clamp, and Michelle Lein; 21 great grandchildren; and one sister, Kathleen Rainey of Anderson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Quincy and William Ethridge, and a sister, Margie Boggs.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rocky River Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Larry Cox and Rev. Steven Payne. Burial will be in Iva City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The family is at the home of a grandson, Barry White, 353 Crooked Road, Abbeville.

ADA ELIZABETH ROBERTS

ANDERSON – Ada Elizabeth Roberts, 66, of 1720 Harris Bridge Road, died Sunday, January 17, 2010 at her residence.

Born September 17, 1943 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late William and Virginia Branham Dunlap. She was retired from Clemson University’s Maintenance Department and was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Harold E. Roberts; daughter, Carla Anthony and her husband, Daniel of Anderson and 2 grandsons, Chase and Dee. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Pilgrim.

Graveside services will be held at 11am Wednesday at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mack Tester officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at the residence.

Howard (Roach) Wardlaw Jr. 

Iva SC - Mr. Howard (Roach) Wardlaw Jr.  age 61, of  125 Lena Dr., Iva S.C. Died Thursday Jan 14, 2010.  He was born in Abbeville County and is the son of the late Howard Wardlaw Sr. He was a Veteran of the US Army and serviced in Vietnam.
Survivors include his Mother Mrs. Fannie Bell Rouse. Wife Minnie Bowie Wardlaw. Three daughters Dawn Wardlaw, Sherrie Bobo Williams, and Vanessa Wright. One son Keio White. Six Grandchildren. One Great Grandchild. Two Sisters Fannie Lewis and Jannie Bell. Two brothers Willie James Wardlaw, and Louis Eugene Wardlaw.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at the St. Paul Church Of God Holiness in Abbeville SC. The body will be place in the Church at 12:00 P.M. Interment will follow at the M.J. Dolly Cooper Veteran Cemetery. Holloway’s Funeral Home of Belton S.C. is serving the Wardlaw Family. The family is at 284 Long Cane A.M.E. Rd., Abbeville SC.

Julian “Jack” Willis

April 7, 1929-January 16, 2010
 
Iva, SC- Mr. Julian “Jack” Willis, age 80, husband of Claudia Coffee Willis of 54 years, of 102 McAdams Street, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Rainey Hospice House.
 
Born in Hart County, GA, he was a son of the late Luther Willis and Lizzie Bailey Willis. He was retired from textiles, having worked with Jackson Mills, Iva plant, for 46 years. Mr. Willis is a member of Good Hope Presbyterian Church in Iva, where he was a former member of the Men’s Sunday school class.
 
He is survived by his wife, Claudia Coffee Willis and daughter, Lori Ann Willis of the home; brothers, Levis “Shorty” Willis and his wife Janice of Starr, SC and Lester Willis and his wife Alice of Iva, SC; brothers-in-law, David Coffee and wife Jane of Anderson, Howard Vickery of Royston, GA; sisters-in-law, Lillie Marett and husband Horace, Ruby Nell Smith, Earline Patterson, Rachel Warren and husband Clark, all of Anderson; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nora Lee Ashworth, Ruth Vickery and Lily Mae Thrasher and an infant brother, Edward Willis.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Reverends Annette Graham and Sam Duncan. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
 
The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends on Tuesday from
1:00pm-2: 30pm at the funeral home.

LT COL RET, THOMAS A. WILSON

BURKE, VA – Lieutenant Colonel Retired, Thomas A. Wilson, of Burke, Virginia, died unexpectedly at his residence on January 11, 2010.

Born September 19, 1947 in Anderson, SC, Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his father, retired Command Sergeant Major Frazier A. Wilson on December 10, 2009, and his mother, Frances M. Wilson on December 21, 2009 of Augusta, GA. The son of career military parents, Mr. Wilson attended public schools in SC, NC, Germany, and Texas, graduating from T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, SC in 1965. He attended Clemson University where he served in the ROTC and graduated with honors then immediately entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1969. He later received a Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri. He served with his father in Fort Polk, Louisiana during his first two years in service. Lt Col Wilson served in Germany, SC, and Vietnam where he received two Purple Hearts. The remainder of his 20 year military career was served at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Mr. Wilson also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Manpower and Reserve Affairs after his military retirement. He was most recently employed by Turtle Reef Holdings, LLC working on a project to help returning soldiers and their families, a cause he always held close to his heart.

He is survived by his wife, Tina Wilson of Mooresville, NC; two daughters, Holli M. Carpenter and husband, Charles of Grand Blanc, Michigan, and Linnea M. Wilson of Mooresville, NC; one son, Zachary S. Wilson of Burke, VA; brother, Edward M. Wilson and wife, Anne of Rome, GA; and three grandchildren, Caroline, Christopher, and Cameron Carpenter of Grand Blanc, Michigan. He is also survived by three nephews, Brian E. Wilson and wife, Keidrah of Cave Spring, GA, Jordan Marchbanks and wife, Jenny of Anderson, SC, and Jamie Marchbanks of Anderson, SC; and two great nieces, Brinley and Mari Klaire Wilson of Cave Spring, GA.

Memorial services will be held in March in Washington, DC and Anderson, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a deserving soldiers organization of choice.

Anderson, SC – Carol Jean Callaham, age 66, of 101 Clear Pond Way, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.
 
Born in Pickens, SC on September 12, 1943, Mrs. Callaham was a daughter of the late Thomas and Minnie Porter Durham. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Starr, SC. She was a homemaker and a very proud flower gardener.
 
She is survived by a son, Tom Wardlaw of Dover, TN; two daughters, Lisa Vassar of Anderson, SC and Debbie Murdock of Belton, SC; three sisters, Margaret Clark of Pickens, SC and Obera Durham and Edna Gilstrap, both of FL; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Brooklyn, Courtney, Kimberly, Janie, Holland, Lindsey, and Christopher; and two great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Callaham was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Allen Callaham, one brother and two sisters.
 
The Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Donnie Murdock. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

JEWELENE NANCY HARBERT

ANDERSON, SC - Jewelene Nancy “Jerrie” Harbert, age 64, of 642 Old Asbury Road, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.
 
Born in Anderson, SC on December 2, 1945, Mrs. Harbert was the daughter of Nancy Orene Walker Strickland and the late Albert Strickland.  She was a former employee of Ryobi and a member of Centerville Baptist Church.
 
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Grady E. Harbert; mother, Nancy Orene Walker Strickland; granddaughters, Amanda Aderhold, Kimberly Aderhold and Tina McDonald; step-children, Cheri Lynn Queen, Susan Denise McAlister and Gregory Morris Harbert; sisters, Joyce Mattison and her husband, Gerald and Audry Scott and her husband, Robert.  Eleven step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
 
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her son, Randy Ray Davis; her daughter, Lisa Ann Flores and her brothers, David and William Strickland.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverends Mark Dickson and Ken Whitt.  Serving as pallbearers are: Scott Queen, William McAlister, Greg Harbert, Matthew Harbert, Shannon Lollis and Ken Mattison.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
 
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

BILL SMITH

ANDERSON- Willie J. “Bill” Smith, 86, of Smithmore St., husband of the late Effie “Jodie” Smith, died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born February 19, 1923 in Franklin County, GA he was the son of the late John Robert and Minnie Vaughn Smith.  He was the owner/operator of Smith Termite Control and was a Mason. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Dianne Wise and husband, Phil of Milledgeville, GA; sons: Tommy R. Smith and wife, Linda and Randall L. Smith and wife, Tammy all of Anderson; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and  one brother, Duane Smith of Athens, GA. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers: J.T. and Ralph Smith and sisters: Stella Ankerich, Clara Smith, Osteen Smith and Ethelene Thomason.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Bob Marcaurelle and Rev. Randy Blank. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 PM Sunday prior to the service. The family will be at the residence.
