Dr. Frank Elery Oliver

Dr. Frank Elery Oliver, an Anderson, S.C., neurologist for 31 years, died Thursday, June 4, 2015.  He was 69.

The son of Elery Webb Oliver and Julia Durham Oliver, he was born in Greensboro, N.C., Sept.  22, 1945. Dr. Oliver graduated salutatorian from metro Atlanta’s North Clayton High School in 1963.  There he was a captain of his football team and named Mr. Football his senior year.

He then attended the Virginia Military Institute, where he played football, and graduated in 1967 as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

He then enrolled at Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University, receiving his M.D. in 1971.
Dr. Oliver then served four years as a major in the Air Force, stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala., and Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

He is survived by wife, Margaret Coffman Oliver; children, Elizabeth Oliver Wilson and husband Andrew Michael Wilson, and William Kenton Durham Oliver and wife Safiya Elise Moran-Oliver; grandchildren, Barrett Andrew Wilson (8), Ayden Alexander Wilson (3), Julia Mae Moran-Oliver (2); siblings,  Elizabeth Oliver Schwartz (and husband Gary), Judi Oliver Williams,  and Thomas McWhorter Oliver (and wife Melissa); mother, Julia Lowe Durham Oliver; nieces/nephews,  Dean Oliver Williams, Stewart Durham Williams, Julia Anne Oliver, Joseph Elery Oliver, Alyson Anne Coffman, and Amy Coffman Smith .

Dr. Oliver opened his Anderson practice in 1979 as Anderson Neurological Associates. He was affiliated with Anderson Memorial Hospital (now AnMed Health).

He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Dan Batson and Mark Blakey. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
