Eight Roads Still Closed in County from Last Week's Storms

At latest count, eight roads in Anderson County remained closed/partially closed after last week's near-record rainfall event.
Portions of Fants Grove Road, Fred Dobbins Road near Townville, Mt. Bethel Church Road, Paulan Road, Scarborough Road, Shackleburg Road, Slater Road and Waycaw Road are permanently closed.
Anderson County crews are also doing inspection and minor maintenance on the county's 150-plus bridges.
Meanwhile, Anderson County Assistant Administrator Holt Hopkins said it could be 6-12 months before all repairs are completed, although some are expected to be repaired within 30 days. Hopkins said the current estimated cost of the repairs/maintenance is $1.5 million.
More than six inches of rain fell in a relatively short time in many areas of the county, washing out portions of roads and destroying a bridge on Shackleburg Road. The closed portions of the roads are clearly barricaded and drivers should avoid those areas no matter how safe they may look from the surface.
