District 5 Wins $50,000 Arts Grant

District Five has earned a $50,000 competitive grant that will fund arts-related activities. The South Carolina Department of Education grant will benefit all district schools. The uses include:
- Support of the Artists in Residence programs in our schools.
- Funding of a Visual and Performing Arts Resource Center at Calhoun Academy of the Arts. The center will house resources for all VPA teachers in the district to use to support instruction in all district schools.
- Support for our teachers to attend professional development including the Arts in the Basic Curriculum Summer Institutes in all areas of the visual and performing arts.
- Funding for continued development of the District Five Strategic Plan for the Visual and Performing Arts.
Sarah Burns, Coordinator of Grants and Special Projects, coordinated the writing of the grant.
