DAISY BILLINGS MINYARD

July 31, 1919 – July 6, 2011
                
ANDERSON, SC - Daisy Billings Minyard, age 91, of Anderson, wife of the late Frank Minyard, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Toccoa, GA on July 31, 1919, Mrs. Minyard was a daughter of the late Rev. James Oscar Billings and Elizabeth Fitzgerald Billings.  She was a charter member of the Loyal Order of Moose Ladies Auxiliary and former member of the V.F.W. Post #5996 Ladies Auxiliary. She was of the Holiness Faith.

Survivors include her son, Jack Minyard; daughters, Linda Bridges McCoy, Jane Sears Robinson and Diane Simpson Surls; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren, all of Anderson.  Also surviving are four special nieces, Dolly Clay, Juanita Baldwin, Betty Freeman and Alice Morgan.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Kenneth “PeeWee” Minyard; daughter, Jo Ann Standridge Hayes; brother, Larkin Billings and sisters, Nell Morgan and Iola Richey and grandson, Kenny Dale Minyard.

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at 2:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Sam Duncan.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Jane Robinson, 202 Windemere Way, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 9, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

MIKE GENTRY

May 11, 1955 – June 30, 2011 

FAIR PLAY, SC - Thomas Michael Gentry, age 56, of 745 West Pine Grove Road, passed away with his family by his side, Thursday, June 30, 2011 at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson. 

Born in Anderson, SC on May 11, 1955, Mike was the son of Shelby Gable Gentry and the late Thomas “Tom” L. Gentry.  He was a 1973 graduate of McDuffie High School and currently employed with Chomarat.  He was a member of APA, enjoyed riding his Harley; was an avid Gamecock and Braves fan and a member of Southside Baptist Church.  

Survivors include his mother of Anderson; son, Heath Gentry and his wife, Wendy; daughter, Heather Osborne and her husband Byng, all of Townville; Tonya Weldon and her husband, Austin of Anderson; sisters, Susan Weldon of Belton, Deborah Davis and Sandra Skelton, both of Anderson; four grandchildren, Kobe and Alyssa Gentry and Ethan and Jaden Weldon.  He is also survived by his fiancée, Crystal Dooley.  

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Phillip McAlister.  Interment will follow in South Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the home of his mother, 202 Wellington Court, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 2, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

CHRISTEENER CALLENBACK  

June 12, 1923 – June 28, 2011 

ANDERSON, SC - Christeener Callenback of Anderson, SC, born on June 12, 1923, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on June 28, 2011, after a lengthy illness of a brain tumor.  

Christeener was a devoted Christian, working with children’s Sunday School classes in the Church of God for many years, attending River of Life Church of God and West Anderson Church of God.  She received extensive training in teaching and was loved and respected by her pastors and peers.  She was employed by Singer Corporation before her retirement, receiving many letters and awards of appreciation from both her church and employers.  

Christeener was preceded in death by her parents, H. F. and Bessie Elrod Callenback and two brothers, Herman and Doris Callenback.  

She is survived by three sisters, Bertha Guest of Anderson, Mildred Lollis (Ernest) and Pauline Davis (Ray) of Powdersville.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Martha Stansell, Evelyn Wilburn, Sharon Crowe, David Lollis, Michael Davis, Barry Davis, Lynn Brooks,  Boyd and Avery Callenback and Nancy Crump as well as many great nieces and great nephews.

The Funeral Service, officiated by the Reverends Cecil Campbell, Marion Snider and Mr. Ray Davis, will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 4:00 pm with the family receiving friends from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm before the service. A private family interment will be held at a later time. 

The family will be at the home of Martha Stansell, 1725 Martin Avenue, Anderson, SC.

COURTNEY EVANS

February 13, 1997 – June 27, 2011 

ANDERSON, SC - Courtney Elaine Evans, age 14, of 518 Burton Drive, died Monday, June 27, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.  

Born in Anderson, SC on February 13, 1997, Courtney was the daughter of Lisa Mays and Jessi Miller.  She attended Lakeside Middle School and was a promising 9th grade student of Westside High School.  She attended Freedom Center, formerly 1st Assembly of God and was an avid photographer.  Courtney was a loving and caring person to all who needed a shoulder to lean on.  Her favorite quote was “The Meaning of life is to give life a Meaning”.

Survivors include her mother, Lisa Mays and her husband, Joseph of the home; father, Jessi Miller and his wife, Jennifer of Anderson; brothers, Evan Motes, Michael Miller, Jonathan Mays and Jeremy Mays, all of Anderson; grandparents, Sheron and Ronny Simmons of Anderson, Landis Evans of Atlanta, Dale Miller of Anderson, Donald Miller of Townville, Sandra Mays and David Mays of Anderson and great-grandmother, Wilma Evans.  

The family will receive friends at the Freedom Center on Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon with the funeral following at 12:30 pm officiated by the Reverends Jeremy Sears and Phil Sears.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

The family will be at the home of Sheron and Ronny Simmons, 112 Cedar Road, Anderson, SC.

Hugh D. Moss, Jr.

ANDERSON- Hugh Dorsey Moss, Jr., 49, of 1125 Kay Drive, died June 24, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born May 13, 1962 in Anderson, he was the son of Hugh D. Moss, Sr. and the late Ruth Turpin Moss. He was a self-employed heating and air specialist.

Surviving are his wife, Kimberly O'Barr Moss of the home, stepson, Korey Tilley, stepdaughters, Brandi Mawyer and Summer Stewart all of Anderson, father, Hugh D. Moss, Sr. and sister, Ruby Lewis of Easley. He is also survived by nephew, Dallas Lewis and step-grandchildren: Jared, Cade and Layton Tilley, Bryanna and Drake Mawyer and Braylin and Nevaeh Willingham.

Funeral services will held at 3pm Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at the residence.

CHARLES W. MOORE

NOVEMBER 19, 1935 – JUNE 24, 2011 

PENDLETON, SC –Charles Webster Moore, age 75, of 1628 Sandy Springs Road, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011, at his home.

Born in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Samuel Pickens Moore and Pearl Leona Hampton Moore. Reverend Moore served in the US Air Force and retired from the Frigidaire Corp. He was the longtime youth pastor at the Little Holiness Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Cobb Moore; son, Danson Moore of Pendleton; daughter, Dawn Moore and her fiancée, Joseph Dupree Carnes, of Pendleton; brothers: James Moore of Seneca, and George Moore of Anderson; sisters: Terrie Reynolds of Williamston, Brenda Smith of Easley, and Evelyn Smith of Easley. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 4pm on Sunday, June 26, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Dwight Greene.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

BOBBIE SUE GENTRY

ANDERSON - Bobbie Sue Watkins Gentry, 80, of 5122 Gentry Road, widow of Marion "Buddy" Gentry, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.  

Born March 3, 1931 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Wilton Eugene and Bertha Bowen Watkins. She was a textile employee having worked at Badische and retired from American Enka. She was a cancer survivor and was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church.  

She is survived by her son, James Gentry and his wife, Evelyn of Anderson; 3 grandchildren, Dean Rose, James Cole Gentry and Olivia Curtis; brother, Leo Watkins and sister, Brenda Rampey all of Anderson. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Marian Susan Barker and Mary Helen Rose. 

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lebanon Baptist Church with Rev. Harry Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at the residence.

BOBBY BRYANT

SEPTEMBER 2, 1940 – JUNE 20, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Robert Olin Bryant, age 70, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011, at his home.

Born September 2, 1940, in Abbeville, he was the son of the late Richard Bryant and Maurine Evans Bryant. Mr. Bryant was of the Baptist faith and retired from Abney Mills.

Survivors include his three children and their spouses: Teresa Smith & Charlie Boseman of Anderson, SC, Phillip Bryant & Stephanie Bryant of Honea Path, SC, and Patricia Salter & Tony Salter of Starr, SC; eleven grandchildren: Joshua Bryant, Jordan Bryant, Alex Perez, Carley Perez, Chris Smith, Samuel Smith Jr, Jennifer Punch, Renee Punch, Lance Punch Jr, Eric Bryant, and Dustin Salter; and nine great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, June 26, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Samuel Autry Sr. and the Reverend John Daniel.  Interment will follow in Old Silver Brook Cemetery.

LARRY H. SPEER

February 21, 1955 – June 15, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Larry Holman Speer, age 56, husband of Sharon Foster Speer, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, SC on February 21, 1955, Mr. Speer was a son of the late Harold Speer and Azilee Anderson Speer.  He was a 1973 graduate of Westside High School.  He worked for 20 years at Belk’s Department Store and also worked at Saddler’s Creek Barbeque.  He was an avid buyer and seller of antiques and was a member of NewSpring Church. 

Survivors include his wife of the home; children, Kelly C. Strawhorn and her husband, Jeff and Christian H. Speer, all of Anderson; brothers, Jimmy Speer of Anderson and Gene Speer of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Adam, Tyler, McKinsey, Kacey, Brycen, Drea, Trent and Dax. 

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2001 at 11:00 am at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by the Reverend Tom Turner and Dr. Tony Smith.  

The family will be at the home of his daughter, 106 Andi Lane, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

RANDY BARNETTE

PENDLETON - Calvin Randolph Barnette, 60, of 421 East Queen Street, died Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Seneca Health & Rehabilitation Center. 

Born May 21, 1951 in Anderson, he was a 1969 graduate of Pendleton High School and a 1973 graduate of Clemson University. He served on the Anderson School District #4 Board of Trustees for 20 years. He was a real estate appraiser and attended Pendleton United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Janet Gambrell Barnette of the home; son, Greg Barnette and daughter, Katie Barnette of the home; parents, Calvin B. and Bernice Williamson Barnette of Pendleton; sister, Joan Mooneyhan and husband, Verne of Aiken; and his mother-in-law, Margaret Gambrell of Pendleton.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Pendleton United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Ben Barnett. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Monday at the church. The family is at the residence.

IRA MERRILL NIXON

SEPTEMBER 2, 1939- JUNE 11, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Ira Merrill Nixon, age 71, of 207 Adams Avenue, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born September 2, 1939, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Ira B. & Louise Pike Nixon.   He served the United States Navy and was retired from Owens-Corning Manufacturing.

He was a member of Homeland Park Baptist Church. He was also a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2018, the VFW, the American Legion, and the Hiram Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Allen Nixon of  the home; son, Allen Shane Nixon and his wife, Katie Hall Nixon; brother, Jerry Nixon, of Ridgeway SC; sisters: Linda Cain, Marie Miller, and Chyral Hankins, all of Anderson; two grandchildren: Blake & Brandon Nixon. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Larry Cox.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home from 2pm until 3pm Tuesday before the service.

DORIS P. HAWKINS

SEPTEMBER 25, 1919 – JUNE 11, 2011 

ANDERSON, SC – Doris Pearl Hawkins, age 91, of 1020 Cola Hawkins Road, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011, at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late W.J. Hawkins, Sr., and Cola Parnell Hawkins.  She was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church where she was a member of the Addie Reed Sunday School Class and the Joy Fellowship. She retired from True Temper Manufacturing.

Surviving are a sister, Olga Hogg of Belton, SC; a nephew, Pete Hawkins and wife, Jean, of Anderson, SC; and two nieces: Judy Couch and husband, Roger, of Easley, SC, and Wynell Ashley and husband, Wendell, of Belton, SC.  She was predeceased by her brother, William J. Hawkins, Jr. of Anderson, SC; and sisters: Annie Hawkins of Anderson, SC, and Ruby Hogg of Belton, SC. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Long Branch Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Wayne Watson and the Reverend Roger Couch.  Burial will follow in Long Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6pm until 8pm on Monday. Miss Hawkins will be placed into the Church at 1pm on Tuesday.
