JANET WEILER

ANDERSON – Janet Mary Weiler, 72, of Anderson, wife of Joseph L. Weiler, died Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born January 8, 1940 in St. Joseph, MO, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Earl and Mary Elizabeth Sayre Price. She was a retired financial counselor and office manager. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph L. Weiler; her children, Robert Bruce Mott, Sheryl Lynn White, Julia Ann Swan, Cynthia Marie Little, and David Michael McKee; grandchildren, Joshua Lucero, Chase Winslow, Krishawna Stewart, Holly Davidson, Eric Lucero, Joshua Little, Nikki Stewart, Rick Hicks, Bradley Hicks, and Brandi Novinger; step-children, Theresa Summerfelt, Mark Weiler, Donald Weiler and wife, Carolyn; and her step-grandchildren,Steven Summerfelt, Karla Russell, Amanda and Heather Weiler, Sarah, Jae, and Faith Copsey, and Michael Weiler.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 3 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 East Calhoun Street, Anderson, SC 29621.

JIMMY MORROW

July 24, 1938 – January 1, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Jimmy Lee Morrow, age 74, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at his residence.

Born in Abbeville, SC, he was a son of the late Cape Morrow and the late Bessie Mae Dixon Morrow.  He worked for many years at Springs Industries and served as the Weave Room Supervisor.  He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children, Richard Morrow (Melanie) of Anderson, SC, Andy Morrow (Suzie) of Ninety Six, SC, Greg Morrow (Teresa) of Greenwood, SC, Diane Hawkins (Rob) of Anderson, SC, Stacey Bice of Iva, SC and Cindy Strickland of Anderson, SC; sisters, Maggie Chasteen, of Anderson, SC and Willie Mae James of Lowndesville, SC; eight grandchildren, Trent Morrow, Jenna and Jessica Morrow, Kayla Hall, Wesley Malmister, Cassie McGeath, Justin Bice, and Gatlin Morrow (Little Bo); and four great-grandchildren, Noah Hall, Taylin Hall Kaleb Morrow and Ethan Metts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy Morrow, John Morrow and Cape Morrow, Jr.; and his sisters, Louise Hill and Eva Nelson.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Duncan officiating.  Interment will follow at Ridge Mountain Church Cemetery in Lowndesville, SC.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 3, 2013, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

WANDA S. SPEARES

November 3, 1934 – January 1, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Wanda Strickland Speares, age 78, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Ellenburg Nursing Center.

Born in Anderson, SC she was a daughter of the late Guy Sheldon Strickland and the late Lila Teasley Strickland.  Wanda was a graduate of Girls High and Forrest College. She worked for many years at Equinox Mills in accounting.  She later worked for Anderson School District #5, where she retired after 30 years of service.  She was a former member of the Anderson Women’s Club.  She was a dedicated member of West Anderson Church of God.

She is survived by her son, Scott T. Speares and his wife Melinda of Anderson; two daughters, Sandra Speares Dove and her husband Keith and Susan Speares Bryant of Anderson; two brothers, Sheldon “Bo” Strickland of Washington, DC and Wendell Strickland of Anderson, SC; a sister, Ruth Gerrard Morgan of Anderson; four grandchildren, Brandon and his wife Holly, Taylor Speares and Hunter Speares, and Lila Ruth Dove; and one great-grandchild, Jett Rogers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Speares; and a sister, Jenette Phillips.

The Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Daniel and Reverend John Daniel officiating.  Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. 

The family will be at the home of her son, 133 Fieldstone Way, Anderson, SC 29621 and will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

DOUGLAS “DOUG” SHIFLET

August 5, 1972 – December 31, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Douglas Eugene Shiflet, age 40, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of Joyce Diane McGuire Graham of Anderson and the late Jerry Eugene Shiflet.  He worked in construction for many years and was of the Holiness faith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Mary Catherine and Jennifer Shiflet, both of Iva, SC; two sisters, Faith McGuire and Angel Shiflet, both of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. 

The family will be at the home of his mother and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm.  The Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the funeral home at 2:00 pm with Reverend Ray Witherington officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

HERBERT HENSLEY HAND

Herbert Hensley Hand, 81, of Anderson, SC died on December 30, 2012 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

He is survived by his wife Katharine of Anderson, his two sons (Dr. Stephen Harris Hand and the Rev. Dr. Herbert Gucker Hand), his grandchildren (Will Hand, Liz Hand Roach, Alex Hand, and Kelsey Hand), his great grandchildren Leah Hand and Cora Roach, and his brother Jack.

He married Katharine Harris Gucker on July 26, 1952 in Bloomington, Indiana.

He graduated from Hamilton (Ohio) High School in 1949.  He earned his BS in Business at Indiana University in 1953, his MSEE at MIT, his MBA at the University of Miami in 1965, and his PhD. in Business at Penn State University in 1969. 

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1964.

He taught in the schools of business at Indiana University and the University of South Carolina.

Most importantly, he was a faithful follower of Jesus, a Bible teacher, and member of First Assembly of God, Easley, SC.  Pastor Keith L. Bagwell will officiate at his funeral at Sullivan- King Mortuary in Anderson on Wednesday, January 2nd at 11:00 AM.  Visitation will be at 10:00 AM.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Assembly of God, P.O. J.E.”BUD” WILLIS  

APRIL 11, 1937 – DECEMBER 29, 2012 

Jones Edward “Bud” Willis, age 75, husband of the late Brenda Brown Willis, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Stephens County, GA, he was the son of the late Jeff Tilmon “J.T.” Willis, Sr. and the late Ruby Head Willis.  Mr. Willis was retired from the Mt. Vernon Plant in La France. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Mr. Willis is survived by his son, Tony Edward Willis of the home; brothers, Tillman Willis and his wife, Audrey of Anderson, Nolan Willis and his wife, Whitney of Anderson, and Ray Willis of Sandy Springs; sisters, Louise W. Haggerty and her husband, Willie of Sandy Springs, Beatrice W. Rollins and her husband, Billy of Anderson, Jean Brown of Anderson, and Patricia Gains and her husband, Mike of Anderson; grandchildren, Jared Willis of Central, Brandon Willis of Pendleton, and Tymia Willis of Pendleton; great-grandchildren, CiCi, Eli and Tyler Willis all of Pendleton; a very special niece, Rita Harrison and many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Whitman and Edna Roper and his brother, Robert Willis.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm in The Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with the Reverends Gene Burdette and Larry Bright officiating.  Interment will follow in Memory Gardens in Clemson, SC. 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends on Wednesday, January 2, 2012 from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home, prior to the service.

BRENDA G. DAY

ANDERSON - Brenda Gail Davis Day, 66, of 1551 Denver Road, wife of Randy Day, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born December 24, 1946 in Ashburn, GA, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Lucy Mae Poole Davis. She was retired from BASF and co-owner of Day's Carpet Care. 

Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Randy Day of the home; 2 sons, Larry and Gary Taylor; daughter, Deanna McGill all of Tifton, GA; 6 grandchildren; 3 brothers, David, Russell and Bill Davis; 2 sisters, Shirley Hunsinger and Linda Williams; niece, Michelle Tafoya and several other nieces and nephews. Brenda was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Davis.  

The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until 1pm prior to the service at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 N. Hwy 81.

Funeral service will be held at 1pm Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary with Rev. Ed Hunsinger officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Garden Mausoleum. 

The family is at the home.

August 2, 1931 – December 25, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Nan Willhoit Cason, age 81, of 105 Pine Lane, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born in Cleveland, OH, she was a daughter of the late August Willhoit and the late Ruth Broadwell Willhoit.  She retired from Wal-Mart after 18 years of service.  She was an avid seamstress; she especially enjoyed making things for her grandchildren. 

She is survived by her children, Linda Greer, Jay Cason, Lee Ann Norris, Kellie Cason and Bob Cason, all of Anderson; a brother, Dr. Earl Willhoit; two sisters, Mary Darata and Polly Lewis; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Adkin Cason; a brother, Rolla Willhoit and a sister, Betty J. Barb. 

A private family service was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel on Thursday, December 27, 2012 with Reverend Scott Fricks and Dr. Charles Holland officiating.

MERCEDES G. SCALES

ANDERSON- Mercedes Grall Scales, 85, of 1634 Sandy Hollow, widow of the late Aubrey Todd Scales died Wednesday December 26, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born July 15, 1927 in Louisville, KY she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Effie Graham Grall. She was a graduate of Anderson College and was a homemaker. Mrs. Scales was an avid volunteer with the Girls Scouts, Anderson Hospital and her church. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 58 years where she was past president of the Wesley Sunday School Class and organized the tape ministry. She was a member of the Julia Camp Circle. 

Surviving are her daughters: Paula Whitmire and David of Watkinsville, GA, Nancy Oates and Dusty of Clemson, and Tammi Marohn and Eric of Greensboro, NC, grandchildren: Emily Rose Whitmire Sluder and Jared, Lacey Whitmire, Caroline Oates, Amanda Oates Harper and Ryan and Amelie Marohn, brother, Henry J. Grall and Conchita of Harrodsburg,KY and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold, Graham and Louis Grall. 

Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Saturday at Ruhamah United Methodist Church followed by a memorial service at 3:30 PM Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church with Revs. Paul Frey, Bob Carlisle and C.J. Lupo officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. The family is at the residence.

ALICE MOBLEY

December 9, 1939 – December 26, 2012 

TOWNVILLE, SC - Alice Faye Ard Mobley, age 73, of 114 Pine Circle, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at her residence after a lengthy illness.

Born in Florence, SC, she was the daughter of the late Manning Ard and the late Azalee Benton Ard.  She was a devoted navy wife for 22 years. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Guy Hill Mobley, of the home; her children, Guy H. Mobley II and his wife Cathy, of Townville, Alice Elaine Morgan and her husband Dickie, of Enoree, SC and Deborah Dee Wofford and her husband Wayne, of Cross Hill, SC; a brother, Ronald Lee Ard and his wife Mary of Johnsonville, SC; two sisters, Doris Jones and her husband W.D. and Florence McDaniel, all of Johnsonville, SC; her grandchildren, Jeremy Wofford and his wife Wendy, Satchua Morgan, Megandee Morgan and Sarah Mobley; and great-grandson, Colin Wofford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Ard. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday December 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Double Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Kyle Caudell officiating.  Interment will follow at Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
