LUCILLE T. MAYO

ANDERSON – Lucille Turner Mayo, 92, widow of Clarence Mayo, died Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Surviving are her son, Jerry Mayo of Orlando, FL and sister, Dorothy Peeler of Charlotte, NC.

Graveside service will be held at 10am Friday at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Grace Episcopal Church or Hospice of the Upstate.

ADA FRICKS

May 28, 1921 – July 20, 2010

PENDLETON, SC - Ada Porter Fricks, age 89 of 240 Church Street, wife of the late George “Bug” Fricks, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Pickens County, SC on May 28, 1921, Mrs. Fricks was a daughter of the late Richard “Rich” Porter and Elizabeth Hood Porter.  She was a member of Clemson Church of God and attended West Anderson Church of God.  She was a homemaker and a faithful and dedicated wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother.

Survivors include her son, George Richard Fricks and his wife, Diane; two grandchildren; Toby Fricks and his wife, Susannah and Scott Fricks and his wife, Christi: three great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Carter and Garrett, all of Pendleton; brother, Floyd Porter; sisters, Virginia Haynie both of Pendleton, Ruby Shinabery of Fort Wayne, IN and Louise Young of Anderson; and special care givers, Myra and Ruby. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Lloyd, Alvin, Roy, Charles “Pete” Porter, Guy and Clyde Gilstrap; sisters, Maybell Holcomb, Christine Gibson and Pearl Albertson and stepmother, Annie Gilstrap Porter.   

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm at West Anderson Church of God officiated by the Reverends Mark Daniel, John Daniel and Terry Carver.  Interment will follow in Memory Gardens in Clemson.

The family will be at the home of her son, 225 S. Elm Street, Pendleton, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Mrs. Fricks will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

LAURA P. SHEALY

DECEMBER 22, 1918 – JULY 19, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Laura Pruitt Shealy, wife of the late Colonel Carroll Durham Shealy, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC, on December 22, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Riley Pruitt.  She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Phyllis G. Shealy; and a grandson, Charles Richard Shealy, II, both of Anderson; sister, Frances Pruitt Welch and brother, William R. Pruitt.

She was predeceased by both sons, Carroll Durham Shealy & Charles Richard Shealy.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11am on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, conducted by The Reverend Paul Slice.

The family is at the home of Phyllis G. Shealy, 605 South Hwy 187, Anderson, and will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at The McDougald Funeral Home.

DEAN FINLEY

AUGUST 21, 1956 – JULY 18, 2010 

ANDERSON, SC – Harold Dean Finley, age 53, of 1200 Mountain Creek Church Road, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2010.

Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of Rosa Whitaker Finley-Norris and the late Harold Colie Finley.   He was a graduate of Crescent High School and served in the National Guard.  Mr. Finley was a former textiles employee.

Survivors include his mother, Rosa W. Finley –Norris and husband, Reverend Robert Norris, of Anderson, SC; daughter, Deana Flick of Decatur, AL; sister, Wanda Nichols of Anderson, SC; and two granddaughters.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the Mountain Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

MARY CLEVELAND

May 5, 1922 – July 19, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Mary Ella Gwinn Cleveland, age 88, died Monday, July 19, 2010, at AnMed Medical Health Center. 

Born in Cross Anchor, SC, on May 7, 1922, Mrs. Cleveland was the daughter of the late Paul Julian Gwinn, Sr. and Helen Holms Weaver.  She worked at Abney Mills for many years.  She was a member of Order of The Eastern Star and a member of Orrville Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter Faye Fletcher Pierce and her husband James of Anderson; brother, Paul J. Gwinn, Jr., and wife, Millie of Pascagoula, MS; grandchildren, Mel Fletcher and his wife, Lynne, Mikal Mitchell and husband, Zale, Beverly Hankins, great-grand children, Jake Fletcher, John Michael Zerbonia and his wife Nikki, Clinton Hankins, Preslee Hankins, Mitch Mitchell and Evan Brown. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Marcus “Buck” Beverly Cleveland; two sisters, Rachel G. Stone and her husband James and Betty Jo Winn; a son in law, Melvin E. Fletcher. 

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park officiated by Dr. Wendell Bannister.  The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Faye Pierce, 105 Gregory Court, Anderson, SC.

TOMMY JONES

ANDERSON- Tommy Lewis Jones, 54. of Anderson,  died Monday July 19, 2010.

Born September 23, 1955 in Greenville, he was the son of Leonard Harold and Willie Mae Jones. He was a small business owner, avid sportsman and die-hard Gamecock fan. He was a family man and member of Sierra Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sabrina Pearson Jones of the home, daughter, Amy Craft Whitney and her husband, Tony of Anderson; granddaughter, Palin Whitney; sister, Nancy Revis and her husband, Ed and special pet, Little Sang.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Pastor Rex Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 AM Wednesday prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to Sierra Baptist Church, Building Fund,  or Sierra Baptist Church AWANA Program, 2800 Waccamaw Trail, Anderson, SC 29621.

BRENDA B. WILLIS

January 1, 1943 – July 18, 2010

SANDY SPRINGS, SC - Brenda Joyce Brown Willis, age 67, of 120 Greenfield Avenue, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at her residence. 

Born in La France, SC on January 1, 1943, Mrs. Willis was the daughter of the late Thurston “Bo” Franklin Brown and Mary Sue Bates Brown.  She retired from Jacobs Manufacturing in Clemson, SC with 35 years of service and was a member of La France First Baptist Church.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother that will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Jones Edward “Bud” Willis of the home; son, Tony Willis of Sandy Springs; three grandchildren, Brandon, Jared and Tymia Willis and three great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Tyler and Elijah. She is also survived by nephew, Jeff Brown and niece, Lori Crenshaw.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Myra Jane Willis and a brother, Jerry F. Brown.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Gene Burdette and Reverend Larry Bright.  Interment will follow in Memory Gardens in Clemson. 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm.

Shane Frix

November 15, 1967 – July 18, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Michael Shane Frix, age 42, of Kings Road passed away peacefully, on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Greenwood, SC, Shane was employed by O’Dell Oil Company.  He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Belton, SC and was a Mason.  Shane was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing softball.

He is survived by his three daughters, Savannah R. Frix, Karli M. Frix and Bailee E. Frix all of Belton, SC; his parents, Janice Miller Tollison and John of Anderson, SC; brother Kevin Tollison and his wife, Lisa, of Traveler’s Rest, SC; sister, Tara Frix and her husband, J.C. of Atlanta, GA.  Shane leaves behind some very special friends, Debbie Brewster, Adrian Turpin, Michael Brown and his loving ex-wife, Terri Frix.

Shane was preceded in death by his father, James R. Frix. 

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park officiated by the Reverend Dr. Mitch Brooks, and the Reverend Kevin Tollison. 

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, July 19, 2010, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.

EDNA KEATON STAMEY

ANDERSON – Edna Virginia Keaton Stamey, 84, of 311 Simpson Road, Anderson Place, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House. She was the widow of James H. Stamey. 

Born in Newry, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Lee and Bertie (Allen) Keaton. She was raised by her grandmother, Mary Blair Allen. She was the wife of the late James Stamey for 25 years. She was a Cosmetologist, Homemaker and dedicated Army wife. She was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church.  

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Renay Satterfield and her husband, Robert; 4 grandchildren, Greggory, Arah, Lance and Annalise all of Anderson. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Keaton; 2 sisters, Marie Keaton and Mary Donald; 4 grandparents, Preston and Mary (Blair) Allen and Will and Louise (Redmond) Keaton.  

Graveside service will be held at 2pm Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family is at their respective homes.

TERRI ETHRIDGE

October 1, 1955 – July 14, 2010 

SIMPSONVILLE, SC - Terri Ethridge, age 54, wife of Jimmy Dale Ethridge, of 264 Strasburg Drive, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, FL.

Born in Royston, GA on October 1, 1955, Terri was a daughter of the late Clyde Allen and Mary Roper Vickery.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Jeremy and Kevin Ethridge; step-daughter, Sonya Lancaster; stepsons, Shane, Mike and Billy Ethridge; brother, Dusty Vickery; sisters, Joan Richey, Kay Adams and Vicki Floyd; three grandchildren, Taylor Lancaster, Kristin Fortson and Kayla Ethridge. Terri was excited about the birth of two expected grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm with the Funeral Service following at 3:30 pm in the Chapel officiated by the Reverend Sam Duncan.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

Following the funeral service, the family will return to The McDougald Family Center for a meal and a time of fellowship.

BILL ROLAND

JUNE 5, 1931 – JULY 16, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – William Gordon Roland, age 79, husband of Wanda Williams Roland, went to Heaven on Friday, July 16, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson on June 5, 1931, he was the son of the late T.S. & Inez Roland Frederick.  He was an Anderson Boys’ High School graduate and served in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves.  Mr. Roland retired from BellSouth in 1993 with forty-one years of service.  He was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Kim Cartee and husband, Jack of Pendleton, Melody Richey and husband, Tony of Anderson, and Deborah Jones and husband, Jimmy of Anderson; one step daughter: Teresa Bone and husband, Dave of Simpsonville; one stepson: Michael Stephens and wife, Kristie of Greenwood; five grandchildren: Michelle LeTourneau, Anthony Richey, Jenna Jones, Jodi Jones, Katie Curran and husband, Braden; two great grandchildren; and seven step grandchildren: Lauren, Daniel, Lindsey, & Stephen Bone, Katlyn, Karlie, & Kamryn Stephens. 

He was predeceased by a son, Gordy Roland.  

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, July 18, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend John M. Daniel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.

RUBY H. SHARPE

February 13, 1922 – July 14, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Ruby Herring Sharpe, age 88, of 1424 E. Calhoun Street Ext., died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at The Magnolias of Anderson.

Born in Hartwell, GA on February 13, 1922, Mrs. Sharpe was a daughter of the late James M. Herring and Collie Bobo Herring.  She was a graduate of Girls’ High School and retired from the Anderson School District #5.  She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, of sixty-eight years, Jesse Lee “Cat” Sharpe; her son, Ronnie Lee Sharpe; her daughters, Debra S. Burke and Karen S. Sharpe, all of Anderson; brother, Charles Fay Herring of Hartwell, GA; four grandchildren, Allison, Lindsay, Dwain and Jeremy and three great-grandchildren, Bradleigh, Timmy and Meritt. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, James “Jim” W. Herring and sister, Peggy Ann Vassar.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Curtis Bundy.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
