DORIS C. LEVINER

October 28, 1921 – August 2, 2010
 
 
ANDERSON, SC - Doris Elizabeth Campbell Crenshaw Leviner, age 88, formerly of River Street, died Monday, August 2, 2010 at Brookside Living Center.
 
Born in the Friendship Community near Seneca, SC on October 28, 1921 Mrs. Leviner was a daughter of the late James Oscar Campbell and Bessie Moore Campbell.  She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
 
Survivors include her son, Carlton Leviner and his wife, Cathey; daughters, Mary Avant and her husband, Bobby and Margaret Fox and her husband Richard; three grandchildren, Robert M. Avant, III, Mary Elizabeth Holbrooks, all of Anderson and SPC Richard Kyle Wilson, serving in Afghanistan.
 
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, James L. Crenshaw and Olin D. Leviner and three brothers, Billy, Paul and Leonard Campbell.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Curtis Bundy.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
 
The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

JOYCE C. JORDAN

January 16, 1936 – July 31, 2010
ANDERSON, SC - Mrs. Joyce C. Jordan age 74, of 109 St. James Court, passed away at her residence on Saturday July 31, 2010.
 
Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Mack Lloyd Carnes and Winnie Walls Carnes. Mrs. Jordan was a graduate of Girls High, Class of 1954.  She was a gracious homemaker and had previously worked at the John B. Lee Music Store, K-Mart, Darby Electric and the Seawright Company.  She was a faithful member of High Praises Church of God.
 
Joyce was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, affectionally known as “Nana.”  She is survived by her husband, James Carlton Jordan; daughter, Karen Bannister and her husband, Ronnie of Belton, SC; son, Phil Jordan and his wife, Jodele of Fair Play, SC; brothers, Fred Brock of Salem, SC, Harold Carnes and Gary Carnes, both of Anderson, Sc; five grandchildren, Jamie, Julie, Jeremy Bannister, Katie Jordan and Ernie Jones.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 3:00 pm at High Praises Church of God officiated by the Reverends Chris Sustar and James Dyar and Elder Ray Davis.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 
 
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, August 2, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

MRS. WILLIE LEE BROWN

July 30, 1923 – July 29, 2010
 
BELTON, SC - Mrs. Willie Lee Brown, age 86, of 129 Stevenson Drive, wife of the late John Charles Brown, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.
 
Born in Franklin County, GA on July 30, 1923, Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late William Leroy Green and Cola Husie Reynolds Green.  She was a life long resident of Iva until she moved to Belton in 2004.  She was a founding member of Iva Church of God of Prophecy 
 
Survivors include her sons, Major Lee Brown and James Wendell Brown, both of Iva; daughters, Patricia A. Martin of Belton and Cola M. McGill of Starr; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
 
In addition to her husband and parents, she predeceased by a son, Charles Jerome Brown; grandson, Jody McGill; four brothers and three sisters.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Iva Church of God of Prophecy officiated by the Reverends Stanley Campbell and Sam Duncan.  Interment will follow in Iva City Cemetery.
 
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

RICK T. PARKS

ANDERSON – Richard Truman Parks, 58, of 106 Cedar Road, husband of Janice Mize Parks, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at MUSC in Charleston.
Born January 14, 1952 in Anderson, he graduated from McDuffie High School in 1970. He worked for Wood Heating and Air for many years. Rick was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. 
Surviving are his wife, Janice of the home; two sons, Kevin Parks (Shasta) and Travis Parks; twin daughters, Lisa Parks Bradford (Danny) and Leslie Parks Jimenez (Dan); 5 grandchildren, Natalie, Hannah, Brody, Konner and Cooper all of Anderson; mother, Miriam Jeanette Parks Fant of Belton; 2 sisters, Yvonne Harper of Locust Grove, GA and Mandy Parks Hopkins (Floyd) of Anderson and brother, Stan Parks of Belton. He was preceded in death by his father, William Parks and his stepfather, Bill Fant. 
Funeral service will be held at 3pm Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel with Revs. Lee Kinnerly and J. Floyd Stansell, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, 401 N. Main. The family is at the home.

JAMES VICKERY

MAY 1, 1926 – JULY 29, 2010
 
ANDERSON, SC -- James Boyd Vickery, age 84, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Brookside Living Center.
 
Born in Elbert County on May 1, 1926, he was a son of the late Lester Vickery and Lois Cornell Vickery.  Mr. Vickery served in the United States Navy and retired from Laco Construction Company in Charleston.  He was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.
 
Survivors include his wife, Edith Walters Vickery, of the home; a son, Pat Vickery and wife, JoAnn of Anderson; a granddaughter, Joanna Herath and husband, John of Raleigh, NC; and a sister, Sara McCollum of Iva.
 
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Joel Vickery.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 31, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Mack Tester. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
 
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to Pope Drive Baptist Church, 2510 Pope Drive, Anderson, SC 29625.

MARION JONES

December 2, 1938 – July 29, 2010
 
ANDERSON, SC - Marion Winford Jones, age 71, husband of Shirley Ann Brown Jones of 303 Burris Street, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at his residence.
 
Born in Anderson, SC on December 2, 1938, Mr. Jones was the son of the late Winford N. Jones and Lois Hampton Jones Simpson.  He worked at Appleton Mill for many years and later retired from Clark- Schwebel.  He was a member of Westside Church of God of Prophecy.
 
Survivors include his sons, Mark Jones and his wife, Gayle, Timothy Jones and his wife, Tracy, Matthew Jones and his wife, Kim, all of Anderson; daughter, Diane Cruse and her husband, Charles of Central; sister, Geraldine Whitfield of Starr; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Wayne Jones; a daughter, Renea Jones and a sister, Nancy Vickery.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverends Joe Mayfield and David Merck.  Interment will follow in Anderson Memorial Gardens.

VERA D. CATHEY

ANDERSON, SC - Vera Davis Cathey, age 84, of 706 Woodfield Drive, wife of the late William E. Cathey, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at her residence.
 
Born in Anderson County, SC on February 7, 1926, Mrs. Cathey was a daughter of the late James Floyd Davis and Agnes Matilda Haynes Davis.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a homemaker.
 
Survivors include her son, Ron Cathey of Simpsonville; daughters, Carol Cathey, Donna Cathey and Lynn Cathey of the home; Joan Hatcher and her husband, Charles, of Anderson; sister, Cleo Foster of Anderson; three grandchildren, Jennifer Atkins, Andrea Dalby and Jonathan Hatcher and two great-grandchildren, Madison Atkins and Liam Hatcher.
 
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Vera Louise Cathey; two brothers, Boyce and Henry Davis; sister, Virginia Herring Bowman and, eight half brothers and sisters.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Curtis Bundy.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

ALLEN THOMAS

JULY 28, 1924 – JULY 27, 2010
 
IVA, SC – Mr. Allen Thomas, 85, of 102 Old River Road, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Anderson Place Assisted Living Community after an extended illness.
Born in Lowndesville, S.C., on July 28, 1924, he was the son of the late John Bunyan (J.B.) Thomas, Sr. and Ruth Speed Thomas.  Mr. Thomas is preceded in death by his wife, Marnoceta “Marny” Rice Thomas; a brother, J.B. Thomas, Jr.; and one great grandchild, Emeline Ruth Meadows. He is survived by three daughters: Gwendolyn Thomas Stowe and her husband,Timothy, of Gastonia, N.C., Janet Thomas Parnell  and her husband, William, of Anderson, and Kathy Thomas Glass and her husband, David, of Richmond, V.A. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jynne Ruth Stowe of Anderson, Christy Stowe Meadows and her husband, Aaron, of Hanahan, S.C., Lauren JoAnn Parnell of Anderson, Jamin Allen Parnell of Shelby, N.C., Erin Nicole Parnell of Anderson, David Allen Glass Jr. and Caroline Rice Glass of Richmond, V.A. and one great grandchild, Elisea Claire Meadows of N. Hanahan, S.C. He is also survived by a sister, Kathleen Thomas and brother, Walter Thomas, both of Iva, S.C.
Mr. Thomas enrolled in the US. Army during World War II and served in the 13th Airborne Army Airforce division from 1943 – 1947. He attended the University of South Carolina before returning to Anderson to work for Eastern Airlines and subsequently opened the Iva Gulf Station with his brother, J.B. Thomas in 1950. He owned several additional businesses including a real estate company where he served as broker. He was a member of the American Legion, Thomas Leverette Post No. 44, where he served as post commander and was district commander for District #6 Anderson/Oconee American Legion in the late 1950’s.  Additionally, Mr. Thomas was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and trustee.
Mr. Thomas’passion in life aside from his family was in public service where he began his tenure as a town councilman in Iva in 1960. After two terms, he was elected mayor of Iva and served in that capacity for over 23 years. Under his leadership as mayor, numerous civic accomplishments made a lasting impact in the Iva community, the most notable being the opening of the ISLA Medical Center in 1975 (currently AnMed Iva Medical Center) which has served four towns and surrounding areas for over 30 years. Further accomplishments during his public office tenure were the opening of a new town hall and jail complex, fire station, public park/recreation area, library conversion, several land and facility improvement grants, as well as the establishment of a new water treatment system.  Mr. Thomas was known for his progressive yet thoughtful style and prided himself in knowing every town resident and always being available to listen and help others in the community. During his early years
of public service he also served on the boards of several government and civic organizations including the Anderson County Board of Assessors, Anderson County Board of Education, Anderson County Tuberculosis Association, Iva Lions Club (President) and the South Carolina Municipal Association. 
Mr. Thomas continued his commitment to public service upon his appointment as Anderson County Veterans Affairs Officer in 1981 where he served until his retirement in 1987.  Upon retirement, he served on the Anderson County Transportation Board and Anderson Economic Development Board, serving as Chairman and Vice-Chairman, respectively.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson.  The Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 30, at 4:00 pm at Bethel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Bill Parnell and the Rev. Aaron Meadows. Interment with Military Honors provided by Fort Gordon will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.

RACHEL HARRIS

May 4, 1928 – July 27, 2010
 
ANDERSON, SC - Rachel Freeman Tate Harris, age 82, of Anderson, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.
 
Born in Franklin Springs, GA on May 4, 1928, Mrs. Harris was a daughter of the late William Tucker Freeman and Josephine Ray Freeman.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society, a homemaker and a member of Faith Memorial Tabernacle.
 
Survivors include her daughters, Kay Tate Crittendon and Diane Tate Dyar and her husband, Millard; one grandson, Louie Crittendon; a brother, Azel Freeman; and two special friends, Joan Harrell and Bonnie Simmons.
 
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Louie Elrod Tate and her second husband, Walter L. Harris; sixteen brothers and sisters and a great-granddaughter, Destiny Crittendon.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverends Alma Yates, Paul Williams and Greg Hammond.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

ALBERT HAWORTH

 

ANDERSON, SC - Albert "Gene" Haworth 75, of 400 Horseshoe Trail, Anderson, SC, son of the late Albert and Ella died in his sleep on Saturday, July 24th, 2010.
 Mr. Haworth worked overseas for many years and attended Landmark Freewill Baptist Church.
He leaves his wife, Sandra Power Haworth of Anderson; sisters Lucille Householder, Frances Anderson and Mary and Pat Burkhardt all of Knoxville, TN; sons, Mike and Rod Haworth, Pat and David Pruitt and daughter Sandy Stalnaker; grandchildren, Josh and Wendy Haworth, Amanda Ray, Josh Stalnaker, Kayce Stalnaker, Jamie Pruitt, Shannon Billingsley and Tiffany Dyches and three great grandchildren, Christian and Kaleigh Dyches and Saylor Roberts.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

GERALD HAMBY

ANDERSON, SC - Harmon Gerald Hamby, age 63, of 503 Hill Street, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at his residence.
 
Born in Anderson, SC on January 14, 1947, Mr. Hamby was a son of the late Andrew Steven Hamby and Hailey Bryum Hamby.  He was a graduate of McDuffie High School.  He was formerly employed with Gluck Mill and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
 
Survivors include his brothers, Harold, Johnny, Michael and Terry Hamby of Anderson; sisters, Helen Knight of Loganville, GA, Shelby McAlister and Linda Dutton, both of Anderson.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
 
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth, Larry and Boyce Hamby and a sister, Frances Carver.
 
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 10:00 am at New Silver Brook Cemetery officiated by the Reverend David Pickens. 
 
The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends immediately following the service.

EULA I. MULLIKIN

October 28, 1915 – July 21, 2010

ANDERSON, SC- Miss Eula Irene Mullikin, age 94 of Anderson, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at NHC HealthCare in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, SC on October 28, 1915, Miss Mullikin was a daughter of the late Clifton Mullikin and Elizabeth Davis Mullikin.  She was a former employee of Lockheed Martin in Marietta, GA, and then was employed with Ryobi until her late 70’s.  Following her retirement, she cared for her father and sisters.

Survivors include her nieces, Debbie Chapman and her husband Roger and Sharon Sisson and her husband, Troy; nephews, Vick and his wife, Sylvia and Ralph, Michael, John Willard, and Ross Mullikin.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Conrad, Victor B, Ralph Clifton and John Willard Mullikin and sisters, Evelyn Mullikin and Ruth Hawkins. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Roland Bearden.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm.
