TONY KERNELS

ANDERSON - John Anthony Kernels, 61, of  Northlake Dr., husband of Tracy Campbell Kernels, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born August 26, 1949 in Anderson, he was the son of Alvis and Pat Kernels and his mother, the late Johnnie Wilson Kernels. He was a former employee of both J. Roy Martin Roofing Company and Anderson County as their Lake Patrolman of Broadway Lake. He was a disabled Vietnam Veteran and a member of Boulevard Baptist Church. 

Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Tracy C. Kernels, 2 sons, Travis and Dylan Kernels all of Anderson; grandson, Brennon Kernels; father and step-mother, Alvis and Pat Kernels;  sister, Sylvia Brown; 2 brothers, Jay and Scott Kernels; step-sister, Sydney Brown all of Anderson; a step-brother, John Van Blaricom of Franklin, KY; numerous nieces and nephews and his 2 favorite cats, KitKat and Pumpkin. 

Graveside service will be held at 1pm Thursday at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Revs. Bob Marcaurelle and David Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel. 

The family will be at the home of Alvis and Pat Kernels, 108 Ming Lane.

LEILA F. PATTERSON

AUGUST 24, 1923 – SEPTEMBER 13, 2010 

ANDERSON, SC – Leila Fletcher Patterson, age 87, wife of the late Webb E. Patterson, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 13, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, SC, on August 24, 1923, she was a daughter of the late John Waymond & Mossie Stone Fletcher.  Mrs. Patterson was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Wes Patterson and wife, Diane of Anderson, SC; a daughter, Gayle Patterson of Anderson, SC; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Patterson of Anderson, SC; and four grandchildren: Daryl Patterson and wife, Diane, Parra Nix and husband, David, Kristie Parker and husband, Jason, & Jonathan Patterson; six great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, Eugene Patterson; three sisters: Mrs. Charles (Margie) Moorehead, Mrs. Frank (Genevieve) Johnson, and an infant sister, Jeanette Fletcher; and one brother, John Lewis Fletcher and wife, Sadie. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by Reverend Mack Tester and the Reverend Ken Wright.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

The family is at the home of her daughter, Gayle Patterson, 208 Pine Bark Road, Anderson, and will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at The McDougald Funeral Home.

JOHN G. DENNIS

June 29, 1957 – September 11, 2010

Anderson, SC - John Garvice “J.D.”  Dennis, age 53, of 2812 LeConte Road, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2010.

Born in Newberry, SC, Mr. Dennis was a son of the late Henry Ross Dennis and Edith Taylor Dennis. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved the outdoors. He was an avid USC Gamecock fan and was of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include his brother, Richard Henry Dennis and his wife Donna of Anderson, SC; nieces Kristi Hughes and her husband Grady of Starr, SC, Sonya Baker of Starr, SC, and Lindsay Oliver and her husband Ben of Anderson, SC; and one great-niece and great-nephew.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dennis is predeceased by his sister, Ann Dennis Baker.

The Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Chaplain Michael Linkins officiating.

The family will be at the home of his brother, 310 Keithwood Drive, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

MRS. EUNICE HARBIN MORGAN

ANDERSON – Eunice Harbin Morgan, 99, of 2203 Harbin Drive, widow of Elsie Lee Morgan, died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born October 22, 1910 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Baylis Crayton and Mettie Cartee Harbin. She was a homemaker and a member of Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris Martin and husband, Thomas Raymond Martin, and Evelyn Henson, all of Anderson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jim Henson; four sisters, Ina H. Campbell, Ada Harbin, Lucia Harbin, and Susie H. Watson; and one brother, James C. Harbin, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. Ronald Moore and Rev. Brent Lollis. Burial will be in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of a niece and nephew, Martha and Glenn Padgett, 2012 College Avenue, Anderson.

CHRISTOPHER BLAIR

January 7, 1983 – September 11, 2010

Anderson, SC - Christopher “Critter” Dennis Blair, age 27, of 407 Taylor Street, Anderson, SC, husband of April Brown Blair, passed away Saturday, September 11, in Anderson. 

Born in Anderson, SC on January 7, 1983, Mr. Blair was a son of Barbara Sue Gordon Blair and the late Randy Calvin Blair. He attended Westside High School and worked as a plumber for Searault Plumbing Company. Sergeant Blair served in the SC Army National Guard and was a decorated noncommissioned officer who was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Palmetto Service Ribbon. He was an avid video gamer and was a UFC Fight fan. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed playing with his son.

Survivors include his wife of the home, April Marie Brown Blair; a son, Christopher Dennis Blair, Jr. of the home; a brother, J.R. Abernathy and his wife Wendy of Anderson, SC; father-in-law, Eddie Brown of Anderson, SC; mother-in-law, Tanna Stukes of Iva, SC; uncle, Ronnie Blair; and a cousin, Dustin Blair, serving in the U.S. Army in Germany.

In addition to his father, Mr. Blair is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Margaret and Grady Blair and his maternal grandparents, Mildred and William Gordon.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by Chaplain (Col.) Lawrence Dennis, with Military Honors by the South Carolina National Guard.

Anderson, SC - Avis Pritchard Clark Sanders, age 74, of 603 Cromer Road, wife of James David Sanders, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Anderson Area Medical Center. 

Born to the late Thomas and Lois Pritchard on April 29, 1936, Mrs. Sanders worked for many years at Scott Manufacturing and was a member of Homeland Park Baptist Church. 

In addition to her husband James David Sanders of the home, Mrs. Sanders is survived by her son Michael Boltin and his wife Anna of Belton, SC, and one granddaughter, Ansley Boltin.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sanders is predeceased by her former husband, Don Clark and several brothers and sisters. 

The Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Homeland Park Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Cox officiating. Interment will follow in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will be at the home and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, September 13, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 pm on Tuesday.

Born in Indiana on June 16, 2010, Mrs. Evans was the daughter of the late Robert and Marjorie Leesman.

Survivors include her son, Scott Evans of Terre Haute, IN and her daughter, Cori Ellen Evans of Fountain Inn, SC, and four grandchildren.

In keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Evans will be cremated.

BILLIE LEE CRAWFORD

June 17, 1947 – September 9, 2010

BELTON, SC - Mrs. Billie Lee Crawford, 63, wife of Roy Crawford of Stockdale Drive, died Thursday, September 9, 2010.

Born in Anderson, Mrs. Crawford was a daughter of the late Furman Crowe and Nettie Lawson Crowe.  She was a member of Osborne Avenue Church of God.  She was a loving person and always smiling. 

Survivors include her husband of the home; daughters, Lisa Gentry and her husband, Bobby, and Laurie King; brothers, Robert, Furman and Tommy Crowe; sisters, Ressie Hackett and Patricia Smith; three grandchildren, Mandy Hanks, Shelby King and Aaron King.

She was predeceased by a sister, Lilly Mae Hayes.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park officiated by the Rev. Hudson White.

The family will be at the home of her sister, Patricia, 1039 Brown Road, Belton and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

SARA K.  POORE

ANDERSON, SC – Sara Katherine Poore, beloved wife of seventy years to Captain William Harrison Poore, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Mrs. Poore was the daughter of the late Lonnie & Ethel Whitfield.  Along with her husband, she is survived by her son, Melvin Poore and wife, Nancy.  She is also survived by her grandchildren: Coach Brad Poore and wife, Renee; and Libby Poore Bonds.  She has three great grandchildren: Parker Leigh Ann Bonds, Caroline Elizabeth Bonds, and Elijah Bradley Poore.

Mrs. Poore was retired from J.P. Stevens after thirty-five years of faithful service. She and Captain Poore were faithful Christians and members of High Praises Church.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Judge Lawrence Whitfield and Sylvester Whitfield.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 11, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Chris Sustar.  Entombment will follow in the Rosewood Mausoleum of Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Richard John Curran, 88, husband of Leocadia "Cay" Curran, formerly of Pensacola, FL, died Tuesday, September, 7, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born January 4, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Richard and Constance M. McMacken Curran. He was a WW II Army Veteran and member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anderson. 

Surviving are his wife, Leocadia Bilewicz Curran of Anderson; children, Richard J. Curran of Hollywood, FL, Kathy Smith (Randy) of Anderson, Tim Curran of Largo, FL, Constance M Reeves-Bookman (Alan) of Pensacola, FL, Patricia Kervahn of Virginia Beach, VA, Joseph Curran (Lenis) of Davie, FL and Robert Curran (Laura) Cooper City, FL.  

Graveside will be held at a later date in Barrancus National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.

GREENVILLE, SC – Aida Luz Rivera, age 60, of 204 Cold Branch Way, Greenville, passed away on Friday at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born on April 4, 1950, she was raised in Corozal, Puerto Rico, Mrs. Rivera was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God.

Survivors include her husband, Manuel Rivera of Simpsonville; mother, Maria Rivera and husband, Michael Rivera; children: Aida Melody Dentino and husband, David Dentino, Jr., of Anderson, Nova Luz Robb and husband, John Robb, of Greenville, Manuel Rivera, Jr., of Easley, and Matthew Rivera of Piedmont; and three grandchildren: Hannah Nicole Jenkins, Joel Christian Dentino, and John Anthony Robb.

The Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Cornerstone Assembly of God conducted by the Reverend Ed Nelson.

LILLIE STRINGER KING

ANDERSON – Lillie Stringer King, 88, of Country View Road, wife of William A. “Bill” King, died Friday, September 3, 2010 at NHC of Anderson. 

Born January 17, 1922 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Lafayette D. Stringer, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Vaden Stringer. She was a graduate of Anderson College and was a retired bookkeeper with ChemTex, Inc. Mrs. King was a lifelong member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bill King; and two brothers, Wilson Stringer of Anderson and L.D. Stringer of Belton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Fred, and Harlee Stringer, and two sisters, Sue Owen and Willie Huggins.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Jimmy Smith and Rev. Frank Fuller. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. Family members are at their respective homes.
