LORENE S. ARFLIN

ANDERSON - Lorene Smith Arflin, 83, formerly of Hwy 187,  widow of Wilton Arflin, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.  

Born Sept. 6, 1927 in Six Mile, she was the daughter of the late Garvin and Meta Miles Smith. She was retired from Anderson Textile and was a volunteer at LaFrance Elementary School. She loved her church, Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and the work she was involved in at the church. Serving the Zion Community was her passion whether it was visiting the sick and elderly or helping others in their time of need.

Surviving are her son, Rick Arflin and his wife, Susan of Pendleton. She was preceded in death by her 2 half-brothers, Romain and Elmain Smith and 2 half-sisters, Lila Mae Bolt and Ila Garner. 

Funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81N. The family is at their respective homes.

A special thanks goes to the Anderson Place staff, especially the CNAs and her caregiver, Susan Willis.

DOROTHY W. JORDAN

JULY 22, 1913 – SEPTEMBER 18, 2010 

IVA, SC – Dorothy Wakefield Jordan, age 97, of 1838 Warren Watt Road, died at home on Saturday, September 18, 2010, after a prolonged illness.

Born in Iva, SC, on July 22, 1913, Mrs. Jordan was the daughter of Henry Smart Wakefield and Maude McGee Wakefield. She attended Winthrop University and graduated from Anderson College.  She was a member of Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church in Anderson for 75 years.  She was a youth Sunday school teacher for several years and enjoyed her activities with the Women’s Missionary Society. 

Survivors include her son, Gary Jordan and his wife, Joyce of Iva, SC; grandson, Ken Jordan and his wife, Jan of Iva, SC; great-grandchildren: Kristin and husband, Joe of Taylors, SC, Katelin and husband, Will of Greenwood, SC, Kallie of Greenville, SC, Kody of Iva, SC, and Kensley of Iva, SC.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Woodrow Jordan; grandson, Chris Jordan; brother, Douglas Wakefield; and sisters: Hazel Patterson and Hilda Glover.

Mrs. Jordan’s career included employment at Gluck Mill, Carolina National Bank, and with the following doctors in Anderson: Land, Hinnant, & Gaillard; Davidson and Prevost; Gaines, Stanfield, & Haddock, and Vincent.  She was honored by being elected to the Gluck Hall of Fame at the Gluck reunion in 2005.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at the First Baptist Church of Iva, officiated by Reverend Don Upson, her pastor; and Reverend Jerry Gray of Iva First Baptist.  Burial will follow in the Iva City Cemetery.

The family is at the home of her son, Gary Jordan, 1838 Warren Watt Road, Iva.  They will receive friends at the Church from 1:30 pm until 2:35 pm prior to the funeral.

CARL D. WILLIAMS

JANUARY 9, 1928 – SEPTEMBER 18, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Carl Dean Williams, age 82, husband of Elodia Filomena Antoniette Candeloro Williams, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, SC, on January 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Lawrence Albert Williams and Lydia Sears Williams. He served in the United States Navy from 1946 until 1948 and was a retired General Contractor. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters: Cynthia A. Canfield and husband, Robert of Myrtle Beach, SC, Deborah J. Border and husband, Glen of Fostoria, OH, Valerie L. Brassell and husband, Francis of North Wales, PA, Cheryl D. Williams of Doylestown, PA, and Laureen B. Waid of Mexico; sister, Sarah Hall and husband, Jack of Anderson, SC; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by six brothers: Lawrence Albert Williams Jr., John Henry Williams, James Edward Williams, Frank Thomas Williams, Raymond Lewis Williams, and Donald Eugene Williams. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, September 23, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  Interment with Military Honors will follow M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

The family is at the home, 109 Canebrake Drive, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 am until 12:15 pm, prior to the funeral.

HUBERT ERWIN

MAY 18, 1923 – SEPTEMBER 18, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Hubert Erwin, age 87, of 2509 Lindale Road, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Starr, SC, on May 18, 1923, he was a son of the late John Erwin and Anice Whitfield Erwin.   He was a World War II Veteran having received two battles stars and a combat badge.  Mr. Erwin retired from Sears Roebuck & Co. as a television technician and was a member of the Sears Retiree Club.  Additionally, he was a member of the Anderson Lions Club.  Mr. Erwin was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church where he attended the Prospectors Senior Group and the John McLees Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine (Kat) Donald Erwin, of the home; son, Michael D. Erwin and wife, Joanne Raftakis Erwin of Anderson, SC; granddaughter, Mary Catherine Erwin of Anderson, SC; and one sister, Kathleen Erwin Burdette of Starr, SC.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Johnnie Mae Erwin Moates; and a brother, James Erwin.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Tony Smith and the Reverend Tom Turner.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  Members of the John McLees Sunday School Class as well as Bill Kirkpatrick, Roger Hayes, Clarence Harbert, and Ray Creamer will serve as Honorary Escort.

The family is at the home, 2509 Lindale Road, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday.

JOSEPH E. CAMPBELL

OCTOBER 5, 1957- SEPTEMBER 15,2010 

ANDERSON, SC -  Joseph “Joey” Ervin Campbell, age 53, of 1001 Fairhaven Drive, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Anderson, SC, on October 5, 1957, he was a son of JoAnn Richey Alewine and the late Lawrence Augustus Campbell.  He was a 1977 graduate of Westside High School. He served six years in the United State Navy, and was an electrician in the construction industry.  He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughters; Sarah Campbell of Iva, and Jessica Gunnels of Anderson, two grandchildren: Celeb and Grayson Gunnels, brother, Lawrence Campbell, Jr. and wife, Gail of Westminister, sisters: Laura Williams and her husband, Richard of Lancaster, SC; Francine Dyer and her husband, Doyle of Easley; Angela Bowen and her husband Robert, of Anderson, Debra Alewine and Yvonne Alewine, both from Florida.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a stepfather, William U. Alewine. 

A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at the M. J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, with Military Honors. Officiated by Layman James Richey. 

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm on Monday, September 20, 2010.

ELIZABETH MEANS BOLT

September 22, 1913- September 17, 2010 

ANDERSON - Elizabeth Means Bolt was born at home on Lumpkin Street, Athens, Georgia on September 22, 1913.  She was the daughter of Vertna Patman and Joel Marion Means, and the sister of the late Rebecca M. Shepard and Alfred I. Means.  She graduated from the University of Georgia and from the Tulane School of Social Work.  She worked as a social worker at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia where she met her husband, the late W. Charles Bolt, MD.  After Dr. Bolt's military service as a surgeon with the Bushmasters in New Guinea in World War II, they moved to Anderson where they established their home and family.

She was a faithful member of St. John's United Methodist Church and participated in many community organizations over the years.  She was mother to her children, Charlie Bolt, Becky (Dick) Coralli, Joel (Angie) Bolt and Jane (Brad) Herstine; "Gram" to her grandchildren, Hanna (Ben) Morgan, Joseph and Stephen Kovaz, Margaret K. Morgan, Anna Kovaz, Branham Bolt and Erin and Samantha Herstine and great grandchildren, Blaise and Caleb Morgan and Stephen J. Kovaz.

She was a devoted mother, steadfast friend and generous and loving spirit.  Her tenacity, tempered by her graciousness and her quick wit and sense of humor inspired many.  "Press on Regardless" became her modus operendi.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Sinclair Lewis.  The family will receive friends after the service.  The family is at the residence.

FRANCES L. STAFFORD

PENDLETON – Frances Lucille Stafford, 59, of Pendleton, died Thursday, September 16, 2010.

Born March 2, 1951 in York, SC, she was the daughter of the late Claude Eugene Frisbee and Dorothy Ivey Stafford. She was a licensed cosmetologist and was retired.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Matthews of Fort Mill; two sisters, Helen Sanders of Pendleton and Vanessa Kinsey and husband, Ken of Anderson; two brothers, Johnny Stafford and wife, Linda of Fort Mill and Lonnie Stafford and wife, Anna of York; and two grandsons, Jeffery Stafford and Anthony Garcia.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

MARCH 11, 1972 – SEPTEMBER 16, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - - Shayron Elaine Dooley Look, age 38, of 112 Hilldale Drive, also known as “our texting queen”went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 16, 2010.

Born in Anderson, SC, on March 11, 1972, she was a daughter of Billy Ray Dooley & Delores Eaves Dooley.  She graduated Westside High School and was a licensed cosmetologist at Blondies Hair Salon.  As an active member of Centerville Baptist Church, she was the Teacher of the Mission Friends Program and was instrumental in establishing Childrens Church, where she was currently teaching.   She will best be remembered for her artistic abilities, her outgoing nature, and her willingness to always help others especially in her Church.  She loved volunteering and had a lifelong love for motorcycles.  Her endless love for her family, including her two cats (Bailey & Abbey), will always be cherished. 

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Madisyn Olyvia Look; her sister: Sondra D. Chandler and husband, Jeffrey, and their children: Shaylee Reigh Chandler and Carson Jeffrey Chandler; grandmothers: Ruth Elizabeth Rogers Dooley and Annie Eaves, all of Anderson, SC.

The Funeral Service will be held at 4pm on Sunday, September 19, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

LESTER L. MOORE

SEPTEMBER 13, 1939 – SEPTEMBER 15, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – Lester Lee Moore, age 71, husband of Sara King Moore, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Salem, SC, on September 13, 1939, he was a son of the late Walter Moore and Almer Bown Moore.   He was a retired restaurant entrepreneur – having owned the Tiger Den, the Game Room, and the Tiger Town Tavern.  An avid golfer, he was a member of Cobbs Glen Country Club and Boscobel.  He was a member and former deacon of Hopewell Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Sara K. Moore; stepdaughters: Diana W. Vaughan, Debbie W. Biscontini, Terry W. Spinks, Kimberly W. Gehle; brothers: Marlon Moore and Dale Moore; sister, Eunice Kelly; grandchildren: Sarah & Dylan; Joshua & Jeremy; Jenny, Sarah, & Stan; and Cyndy & Heather; and eleven great grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Charles Robert Wright; and a grandson, Jeffrey Wright; and six siblings.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Hopewell Baptist Church, conducted by the Reverend Ken Keaton.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

The family is at the home, 107 Robin Street, Clemson, and will receive friends at Hopewell Baptist Church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

WENDELL B. LATHROP  

ANDERSON – Wendell Brice Lathrop, 42, of 2207 E. River St., died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010.

Born December 1, 1967 in Columbia, he was the son of Nancy Louise Caughman Lathrop and the late Ernest W. “Stick” Lathrop. He worked for Upstate Outdoor Power Equipment and a member of Clouds of Thunder Motorcycle Ministry and Ancient Iron Motorcycle Club. 

Surviving are his son, Harrison B. Lathrop; mother, Nancy C. Lathrop; brother, Ernie Lathrop and his wife, Jenny; sister, Nan Embree and 5 nieces and nephews, Josh, Patrick, Chase, Lauren and Riley.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 6pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Dr. Jack Couch officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 6pm prior to the service at the Northeast Chapel. The family is at the home.

BRENDA RENE’ JOHNSON

February 7, 1960 – September 13, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Brenda Rene’ Johnson, age 50 of Anderson, SC, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of Brenda Smothers Jackson.  She was known as “NaNa” being a kind and gracious lady who helped many young people throughout her life.  She was a member of Wren Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her longtime companion, Ronald Larry “Chino” Foster; sons, Ricky Allen Johnson, Jr., Wesley Eugene Johnson and Boagy Brooks Johnson; brother, Joseph Sizemore; sister, Beth Eckard and five grandchildren. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Ricky Allen Johnson and a sister, Mildred Jones Gasper.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral officiated by the Reverend Ace Allen and Reverend Lloyd Edmond.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

MISS PAMELA ALEXANDER

November 15, 1954 – September 13, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Miss Pamela Ann Alexander, age 55 formerly of Keys Street, died Monday, September 13, 2010 at Ellenburg Nursing Center. 

Born in Anderson, SC on November 15, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Alfred Oswall Alexander and Martha Viola Beasley Heaton. She worked for many years at the Frigidaire Corporation and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sisters, Vickie Bowen and Hope Wicker, of Starr; brothers, John Malloy of Starr, Terry Alexander of Sandy Springs and Ralph Alexander of Anderson and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Donald Alexander and her step-mother, Dorothy Alexander who raised and cared for her for many years. 

A Cryptside Service will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 4:30 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum officiated by the Reverend Dale Bradley.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:30 pm until 4:00 pm.
