Patsy Miller

Williamston, SC - Patsy Ruth Anderson Carter Miller, 80, died Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Ellenburg Nursing Center. 

Born November 2, 1934 in Williamston, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Mary Welborn Anderson. She was a retired Registered Nurse. Mrs. Miller was a Cancer Survivor. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Williamston.

Survivors include three children, Kelly Burgess and husband, Kenny and Mart Carter and wife, Becky, all of Pendleton and Leigh Hurst of Williamston; and five grandchildren, Tabor Burgess, Will and Caleb Caldwell, Maggie and Kadie Hurst. 

She was twice married, first to the late Jimmy Carter and second to the late Quay R. Miller.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Harry Warren and Rev. Larry Baldwin. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. the family is at the residence, 5612 Midway Road, Williamston.

Betty Branham

Belton, SC - Betty Ann Wallace Branham, 65, widow John G. Branham, Jr., died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born August 8, 1949 in Franklin County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Tracy R. and Vera Grace Pierce Wallace. She was a member of Eureka Baptist Church. 

Survivors include her daughter, Donna A. Branham; sisters, Elizabeth Tesner, Josephine Webb, Margaret Rampey, and Tracy Watkins; brothers, Jimmy Wallace, Michael Wallace and Richard Wallace; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Ron Fousek. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at the  mortuary. The family is at the residence.

Bobby Joe Elrod

Bobby J. Elrod

 

Anderson, SC - Bobby Joe Elrod, 80, husband of Betty L. Nixon Elrod, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at AnMed Health Medical center.

Born April 22, 1935 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Prue McSwain and Nellie Poore Elrod.  He was self employed as owner and operator (with business partner and life- long friend, Charles Davis) of Davis and Elrod Grocery and Shell station. He, his brother, David, and Lamar McLeod owned and operated The End of the Road Bar-B- Que for many years after his retirement. He was also owner of Elrod Maintenance, Inc. He was formerly market manager for Winn-Dixie. Mr. Elrod was a former member of Center Rock Fire Department. He was a member of Covenant Baptist Church, the Rick Smith Sunday School Class, the Senior Saints and the church security team. He was a former member of New Prospect Baptist Church and Nell Townsend Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and elder.

Survivors include his wife, Betty L. Elrod of the home; two daughters, Jerrel Lynn King and husband, Fred of Anderson and Beth Elrod Thompson and husband, Frank of Seneca; grandchildren, Joshua Blake Wilbanks (Andrea), Caitlin Wilbanks (Joshua Taylor), Friar Thompson, Spencer Thompson, Michelle King Kent, M.D. (Jeremy) and Jeremy King (Angie); great grandchildren, Kylee Richardson, Isabella Wilbanks, Kate Wilbanks, Rowynn Taylor, Luke Kent, Addi King and Eric Kent.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Elrod.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Covenant Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Steve Silvey. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. The family is at the home of a daughter, Jerrel Lynn and Fred King, 1009 Farmington Road, Anderson, SC 29626. Members of the Rick Smith Sunday School Class, Senior Saints and Hardees Breakfast Club will serve as honorary escort.

Gary Green

Starr, SC - Gary Dale Green, 58, husband of Debbie Green, died Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born January 7, 1957 in Anderson, he was the son of Richard L. Green and Evelyn Towe Green of Anderson. He was a graduate of Westside High School and Tri County Tech. He was self-employed and a member of the Good Time Cruiser’s Club. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a brother, Richard A. Green and wife, Jeanne of Greenville; nephews, Richard Lee Green II, Justin Jordan and Ethan Pearson; and nieces, Allison Green and Haley Jordan.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Tony Walker. The family will receive friends following the service.

Clarence L. Stegall

Piedmont - Clarence Lee Stegall, 90, of 103 Ramblewood Drive, husband of the late Lois I. Stegall, passed away Saturday, April 25 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Born June 24, 1924 in Pendleton, he was a son of the late Hovie E. Stegall and Sudie Kay Stegall.  He was a faithful husband and proud father and grandfather and member of Six & Twenty Baptist Church.   He served from 1944-46 in the US Navy as Storekeeper D First Class, stationed at Arzeu and Oran, Algeria.  He was the proud owner/ operator of Clarence Stegall Trucking Company, hauling sand and gravel within the state for over 40 years.  He was a very hard worker – honest and fair – with high expectations.  He was a long-time fan of the Atlanta Braves and of Coach K and Duke basketball.  He never tired of watching all the birds out his backdoor.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynn S. O’Connell and fiancé, Bobby Jones of Easley and Sue Stegall and husband, Ed Henson of Hickory, NC;  son Lee Stegall and wife Joanna, of Easley; six grandchildren, Heather and Adam O’Connell, Taylor and Sarah Henson, and Lindsey and Andrea Stegall; two brothers, Paul E. Stegall of Greenville and Joe M. Stegall of Anderson.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, John F. Stegall and Carl D. Stegall.

Funeral service will be held  at 2 pm Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary with Rev. Willie Honea officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard.  Burial will be private at Six & Twenty Baptist Church cemetery.  The family will receive friends immediately after the service at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 Hwy 81 N, Anderson.

The family is at the residence, 103 Ramblewood Drive, Piedmont, SC 29673.

Phil Silverstein

Anderson, SC - Phillip Silverstein, 85, died Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House.

He was born January 26, 1930, in Winston- Salem, NC, the youngest of four boys born to Benjamin and Rebecca Silverstein. During the Korean Conflict, Phil served in the U.S. Army as a medical librarian at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC.  In 1965, he opened PHIL Jewelers on Main Street. He has won numerous awards and is often credited with saving downtown Anderson. He was leader, teacher and mentor to many, but above all he was a wonderful husband and fabulous father. Among the many things he taught us is that anything can be accomplished with kindness, generosity, humor and hard work. 

He is survived by his wife, Rosalyn, whom he adored; his children, Jan Hillman and husband, Dan and Benjie Silverstein and wife, Christi; his brother, Jules Silbert and wife, Nancy; and his three precious grandchildren, Hannah Hillman, Phillip and Adam Silverstein. 

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Old Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by Dr. Robert Kimmel and Dr. Tom Richie.

He was simply the best man ever, and we are going to miss him.

Ralph Driver, Jr.

Anderson, SC - Ralph Lewis Driver, Jr., age 58, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at his residence.

Born on April 2, 1957, he was the son of the late Ralph Lewis Driver, Sr. and the late Blanche Coble Driver. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, earning the rank of Sergeant. Ralph was awarded the small arms expert marksmanship ribbon, AF training ribbon, AF longevity service award ribbon, AF good conduct medal, and AF overseas long tour ribbon. He worked for the Anderson County Airport for many years. Ralph was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Julia Driver; three children, Dylan Reynolds and his wife Julie, of Summerville, SC, John Lewis Driver, of Suffolk, VA, and Madalyn Driver, of Anderson, SC; a brother, Bobby Driver, of Greenwood, SC; and a sister, Linda Driver Browning and her husband Stokes, of Greenville, SC

The Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Chaplain Jim Still officiating. Interment will follow at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, with military honors provided by The Campbell Patriot’s Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Barbara Glenn Dominick

Anderson, SC Barbara Glenn Dominick, wife of Wesley J. "Dick" Dominick, Jr., went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2015 at North Pointe Assisted Living.

Born August 4, 1937 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Estelle Glenn. She attended Winthrop University. Mrs. Dominick worked at the Cancer Clinic for several years and also worked for School District #5 for a number of years. She was a faithful member of Central Presbyterian Church and the Centralites. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Robert Glenn Dominick.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Central Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Beryl Rosenberger. The family will greet friends following the service. Members of the Danny Ezell Prayer Group will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Renee Wohlford Montgomery

Anderson, SC - Catherine Renee Wohlford Montgomery, 54, wife of Jimmy Montgomery, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born in Radford, Virginia, she was the daughter of Lowell and Cathy Wohlford of Anderson. Renee worked for McConnell Orthodontics. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church and also attended Meadowbrook Baptist Church. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her children, Marisa Leigh Montgomery, Brittany Anne Franklin, Lauren Lucille Montgomery and Garrison Reid Montgomery; two grandson, Bryson and Colbie Acker; sister, Regina Baker and husband, Danny; brother, Randall Wohlford and wife, Denise; nieces and nephew, Kayla Vass, Danielle Alewine, Kadie Grace and Ethan Wohlford; great niece and nephew, Caroline and Sawyer Vass; and her father-in-law, Robert L. Montgomery, all of Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Bob Marcaurelle and Dr. Don Cox. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Neil Brown

Iva, SC - Boyce Neil Brown, 83, husband of the late Evelyn Morton Brown, died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born December 12, 1931 in Iva, SC, he was the son of the late Parker and Grace Wooten Brown. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War and was a retired general contractor and plumber. Mr. Brown was a member of the V.F.W. and was a longtime member of Orrville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Dwinnell and husband, Joe of Anderson; son, Gary Neil Brown of Anderson; five grandchildren, Tanah M. Waterman, Devan L. Hames, Tiffany L. Cook, Danny R. Basham and Brandon C. Scott; 14 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; sister, Mary Forrester of Iva; and a brother, David M. Brown and wife, Marie of Anderson. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Brown Jones; two brothers, Gene and Clarence Brown and a sister, Shelby Clark.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery conducted by Rev. DeLennon Stowe. Military honors will be provided by the Campbell Patriots Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. The family is at the home of his sister, Mary Forrester, 601 West Broad Street, Iva.

Rev. Cecil Albert

Anderson, SC  -Rev. Cecil Albert, age 73, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Good Friday, April 3, 2015.

Born in Trinidad, on March 8, 1942, he was the son of the late Nanan Albert and the late Ellen Albert.  Cecil loved the Lord dearly and faithfully served Him with all his heart.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lynette “Ann” Albert; his children, Timothy Albert and his wife Tonya, Mark Albert and his wife Natasha, Marianne Yohannan and her husband Jayamon, John Albert and his wife Marissa, and Rebecca Albert; four brothers, Russell, Lionel, Steve, and Charles Albert; and eight grandchildren, Aaron, Caitlin, Andrew, Marie, Isabella, Matthew, Anna Grace, Kristin, and an expecting grandson. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold, Raymond, and Frederick Albert; and two sisters, Ivy and Elsie. 

The Funeral Service will be held at The Freedom Center on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverends Phil Sears, John Daniel, and Lionel Albert officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Zack Heard

ANDERSON, SC - Marvin Zack Heard, age 75, of Anderson, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015, surrounded by the love of his family at AnMed Health Medical Center.  Born in Anderson on June 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Victor Nardin Heard and the late Mildred Harbuck Heard.  For fifty-two years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Ann Elgin Heard of the home.

Mr. Heard was a graduate of Anderson Boy’s High School, Class of 1957.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier.  Zack was the co-owner of Heard’s Inc. Heating and Air Conditioning until his early retirement in 1996.  Mr. Heard was a very active volunteer with Meals-on-Wheels and with Anderson Interfaith Ministries.  He coached his sons in YMCA little league baseball.  Mr. Heard was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Koinonia Sunday School Class.  He was an avid Clemson sports fan.

In addition to his wife, Ann, Mr. Heard is survived by two sons, Brian Zack Heard and his wife, Michelle, of Travelers Rest, SC, and Steven Russell Heard and his wife, Fran, of Hartwell, GA; eight grandchildren, Nathanael, Elias, Thad, Jacob, Gracie and Isaac Heard of Travelers Rest and Zoey and Kannon Heard of Hartwell, GA; and a sister, Vicki and her husband, H. Douglas Kingsmore, of Clemson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Nardin McDonald Heard.

Funeral Services to honor and celebrate the life of Marvin Zack Heard will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mary Teasley officiating.  Interment will follow at Old Silver Brook Cemetery.  Members of the Koinonia Sunday School Class and the Couples Bridge Club are invited to serve as honorary escort.  The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
