Anderson, SC - Phillip Silverstein, 85, died Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House.

He was born January 26, 1930, in Winston- Salem, NC, the youngest of four boys born to Benjamin and Rebecca Silverstein. During the Korean Conflict, Phil served in the U.S. Army as a medical librarian at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC.  In 1965, he opened PHIL Jewelers on Main Street. He has won numerous awards and is often credited with saving downtown Anderson. He was leader, teacher and mentor to many, but above all he was a wonderful husband and fabulous father. Among the many things he taught us is that anything can be accomplished with kindness, generosity, humor and hard work.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalyn, whom he adored; his children, Jan Hillman and husband, Dan and Benjie Silverstein and wife, Christi; his brother, Jules Silbert and wife, Nancy; and his three precious grandchildren, Hannah Hillman, Phillip and Adam Silverstein.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Old Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by Dr. Robert Kimmel and Dr. Tom Richie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple B’Nai Israel, P.O. Box 491, Anderson, SC 29622 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

He was simply the best man ever, and we are going to miss him.
